It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life for me, oozzzziiiiilllll
I won’t talk about theeeee!
Yes people, I have been finished by that story. That said, big shout out to the folk that kept me educated and smart on a very interesting issue. Nothing keeps you sharper in life than listening to intelligent folk who can guide your views and reframe your opinions. I will always borrow your wisdom and reframe it as my own.
I like that even though Emery has a poor grasp of English, he deflects questions like a pro.
on what the DFB should do now…
It is a personal decision from Mesut and I respect it.
on whether it is worrying what Mesut said in his statement…
He thinks what is best for him, he explained his decision and here we need to help him.
on whether Mesut is mentally prepared…
He has experience, he has quality and he has a great mentality and we are going to help him feel good and to show his quality with us. I am sure he is going to have a big season with us.
on Uli Hoeness’ comments…
I respect everybody and their opinions, but we are professionals and we need to understand everyone but work for us and to be together. We know the football [world] around us is about opinion and critique, we have a mentality and quality to work away from this opinion.
Some tasty going’s on today. Malcolm, a player we apparently targeted in January, was announced as a signing by Roma… only for that deal to get cancelled, with Barcelona weighing in for his signature. What a bitch, that’s exactly how I felt when we lost out on Cahill because we reneged on the price, only for Chelsea to nip in and make him theirs. Remember all the Arsenal hipsters (who thought Denilson was as good as Alonso) cheering the loss because Gary was shite? I do.
Anyway, do you think Sven would have signed Malcolm if he used to play for Dortmund?
Yeah, I went there…
Anyway, the upshot is we’re apparently sniffing around Dembele on loan. Kike Marin, Spanish goss hero, asked if that were the next move for Barca. It’d be weird, Dembele is way better than Malcolm, but whatever… just give me that silky Frenchman because we need him at The Arsenal.
Thierry Henry is Aston Villa manager.
Hold the faaacking phone..
He saw what Remy G did after a solid stint at Lyon, and thought the best next move was Villa. Is he fucking mad?
Good luck to him, fair play, but honestly fam… I find this one an odd decision.
Ivan G, slathered in factor 75, told a Singapore audience Ozil was a top bloke, Germany were shite, and he was catching the evening flight to Milan to meet the gang for a chat about January transfer targets. No news on Ivan, except the real narrative of his Churchillian leaked story is he purposefully leaked that he was available to talk about things, just not his future.
Not cool imo.
Something else that I found NOT cool was Arsenal releasing a press release about the CEO that read like the PR team had to muddle together some words after an 8 hour bender at a Carl Cox Space reunion party.
“We are aware of the speculation surrounding our chief executive Ivan Gazidis. We know he receives many offers from organisations inside and outside the game as he’s a hugely respected figure. He has never accepted any of these opportunities and has never spoken about them publicly. He has always been fully committed to taking Arsenal forward and is currently working hard in Singapore with our new head coach Unai Emery as we prepare for the new season.”
What a mess that report is. It reeks of Jaeger Bombs and Sunday morning regret.
‘Yeah, we don’t have a clue either’
Nice one, Sir Chips.
Usmanov is getting bored of owning a piece of Arsenal that has about as much power as that piece of chewing gum you stuck under that seat in block 11 circa 2009. Good news is African sugar king, Dangote, wants a piece of that shit.
“We will go after Arsenal from 2020 … even if somebody buys, we will still go after it,”
Good work mate, you have about as much chance of a takeover as I do using my two crates of bulk buy Pringles as leverage.
Today, we see Atletico play Arsenal. Could someone leave my Dad the channel the match is on below, he thinks there’s a conspiracy against English fans because he can’t find the channel.
Big JEFF the footballing kid we all loved because he had a cool name is apparently off to Angers. NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A KID is my new motto in life. It works on multiple levels to protect me if I’m honest.
Things to look out for today:
- Are our new signings slow?
- Has Emery got a system that allows both Auba and Laca to play?
- DOES RAMSEY LOOK HAPPY?
- How many formations will we test?
- WILL WE FALL IN LOVE WITH NEW ELITE KID EMILE SMITH ROWE?
- Is Emery emotional fiery guy from Sevilla, or the classy reserved guy PSG forced him to be on the sidelines?
IT BEGINS.
xxx
That’s Henry Lansbury to you.
What a goal that was
Hats off young man. UTA.
Is that two shots from outside the area in a matter of minutes?
You know what some are like on here – think football’s like Championship Manager
By that do you mean we’d struggle to loan him and find a decent replacement in the squad? I mean we should loan him and we need another CB
Samesong
I’m an enabler, what can I say!
Holding is green bit you have to give the kid a chance to learn. Kolasinac is a wing back he is far too slow and not defensively good enough to be a left bsck
Can’t believe I missed the goal – FFS
Emirates Stroller
I guess all your worries about HG quota can be put to rest with the kid pushing on
Gorgeous strike from the youngster. Ramsey looks busy. Giendouzi really impressive. Lacazette struggling to get involved.
good goal but hasn’t done anything else of note. maybe a season playing the cup games can improve this lad…
Sloppy from Guendouzi.
The only chances Ateltico get are when we f**k up.
Have to be tighter and smarter.
Guendouzi at fault then.
Bloody hell but good save by Cech
He’s literally just turned seventeen last week gonsterous haha is a cracking goal not enough to give you a little hope for him?
;
Yeah Ramsey’s fucking shite. Who does that inside their own 6 yard box? Fucking unbelievable. Wank midfielder
just saw the goal, brilliant strike after some neat footwork
Lacazette is fully involved. He’s just not striking the ball properly. It’s Ramsey I’m questioning his Role. He’s not suitable for an AM. He is a B2B.
He’s no way on ozil level. Ozil in that role will make the CFs have plenty chances
Atletico do that so well.
Just absorb pressure and the second you give them an opening they are all over it and try to keep you locked in.
Great save from Cech. Aaron and Guendouzi faffing about!
I’d like to see Miktyran given half an hour.
Guendouzi not ready to start at this level.
Nearly caught out twice in the first half as well.
HG rules never been an issue. If we are short in the numbers of HG over 21 (say 7) then leave a space free (ie register 24 players).
Can we please stop the Aubameyang at LM thing now, don’t want to see that again.
New squad altogether
What the fuck is Emery doing? Has no one told him you can’t make subs until the 70th minute.
Yeah didn’t get the waxing lyrical of Guendouzi myself, looks tidy but way too green to make an impact at the club, needs a loan.
to currently make an impact should have said.
A substitution before 68 mins!
This Emery fella has lost the plot!
Sanmi,
Ramsey’s been playing B2B and not AM. If you think he’s been playing AM in this game, you are pretty blind my friend. He’s done a whole lot in defense, in passing the ball forward and had a good game until that pretty dumb play in the our box again doing his bit in defense. Smith-Rowe had more offensive role than Ramsey. Your comment where you add Ozil in there is very weird.
Btw Ramsey stole several balls while our team was pressing Atleti in their half. Ozil cannot press.
Charlie Nick:
“A substitution before 68 mins!
This Emery fella has lost the plot!”
Shhhhhh! Walls have ears 🙂
who is our RB at the moment number 52?l
Perez playing pre-season feels like Hart for City and Sturridge for Liverpool, dead man walking at the club.
Marc
Jordi Osei-Tutu
ADKB- Why you look at me?
Raptora,
He’s the furthest forward amongst Howe, Guendouzi and Ramsey.
He was playing right behind lacazette.
The fact that he’s allover the place is his fault.
He was not playing b2b in 1st half
Final third passing has fallen off a cliff since the changes
We ar enow playing 3 at the back – or 5 at times. It looks something like 3 – 5 -2
Sanmi is kind of right.
Going forward it was a 4-3-3 with Ramsey and Smith-Rowe both attacking ahead of Guendouzi.
Defensively it dropped into a 4-4-2 / 4-1-4-1 with Ramsey pushing up to press alongside Lacazette, exactly what Ever Banega used to do for Emery.
WE,
Yeah. 95% Perez is out imo. Probably how most people feel about him as well.
Crowd with the huge roar when the cameraman showed Ozil. Nice bit of support.
gambon
Cheers
Definitely looks like there’s a plan on have width get in behind the oppositions back 4.
Beginning to think a winger might really happen.
gambon,
no way that this was AM position though come on.
Marc
Fingers crossed.
Because I do not like this Aubameyang at LM thing, you need him at ST for his finishing, pace and counter threat.
Cesc
Irrelevant of whether we make a signing or not I want Abba through the middle, now whether that’s with 2 up front or rotating with Laca is open for argument.
We might have to go wide with one of Welbeck, Iwobi or Perez.
Cesc,
I think we are playing with a twin striking partner.
Aubermayang is a Lil behind and on the left wing.
No way Chambers should have got a yellow for barging Verne Troyer off the ball. Travesty!
Marc I agree. Aubameyang is our biggest attacking threat, you play him at ST because that is what he is. He was a wide player at St Etienne and his early days at BvB then claimed the ST role because he is a great ST. It just worries me a bit, is it because we paid £42 Million for Lacazette and now we’re trying to make it work? I’m actually with you, I would rather have Aubameyang at ST and then one of those out wide. We’re going to waste our chance to have a potential golden boot winner and… Read more »
Guys pipe down on Rowe. we’ve seen many break out stars in preseason who never made it to the next level. Lacazette this and that, other players this and that should all be seen as work in progress.
Is it my imagination / the opposition or do we seem to have a more physically imposing squad at the moment. We seemed to only recruit short arses for a while, even some of the kids look like you wouldn’t want to pick a fight with them.
Mikki looks well short of sharpness.
Don’t know why we don’t experiment with two up front, not like we are loaded with quality midfielders anyway.
Playing Auba out wide is such a waste.
Speak for yourself short arse.
Outside of the goal second half was poor. Also Lucas Perez can “impress” all he wants in training but on the pitch he’s doing fuck all
Just seen our goal – great finish.
There was some promise in there in terms of off the ball work which should be the main focus.
But obviously it is going to take a while for Emery to get this team working how he wants off the ball. When you think Guendouzi was basically the only outfield player who was new he has to take a load of players who have not been pressing etc and try to teach them to be completely different players off the ball.
Going to be a while, but some positive signs.
Thought for a second that Cech saved that. Nope. lol
Marko
You cant judge players without the proper cast. it is a preseason, its for fitness. Coaches at this stage judge based on what they see in training. 1st eleven is determined in the last 2 games of pre season.
Mikki looks like a bottler. Shoots like a bottler. Perfect height for GKs.
Don’t want to start a thing here but just thought I’d point out Christian Eriksson played for Spurs today against Roma or it might have been last night. He may have actually cut his holidays short as he went further and played more than Ozil at the world cup. Credit where credit is due
CECH !!! Called IT!
Lol at the Panenka by AMN!
I know they look good but pens like AMN scare the shit out of me.
marko
It means nothing that ericksson resumed.
Wow
Our Penalty takers are Rubbish
Lots of work still to be done, as you would expect
Lol at the bm at the end. GK vs GK for the win. Went in with the cross bar.
Yes but we saw some good things.
AND CECH HAS STOP A PEN!! lol
Claver
They are not your penalty takers, half of them wont be on the pitch talkless of taking penalties.
here they are
Laca
Auba
Ramsey
Xhaka
Torreira
Maybe Ozil
Marko
Not interested in getting into the Ozil politics but Spud players coming back early is good for us. They don’t have the biggest squad in the world and some of their key players have played a lot of football over the last few years. Could easily turn into some injuries or fatigue over the upcoming season.
A manager who don’t keep his ass on the bench during the whole game.
A manager who shout his tactical instructions to players.
A real shock to witness, yes it was.
Christ, the analysis of the game is just incredible.
Here we are playing a preseason friendly and the poster pundits are already making assumptions and drawing conclusions.
Bloody hell, let’s give Emery a chance to experiment for a few games before getting the knives out.
None of us are qualified enough to question things so vehemently at this stage.
Give Emery some breathing space.
On the whole pleased with what I’ve seen today, we have 3 more friendly’s against decent opposition coming up. Let’s see how the squad shape up.
HighburyLegend:
Seeing Unai on his feet shouting instructions at the game against Boreham Wood was a refreshing sight.
Some of you gave Wenger 10 years leeway.
Highbury
You might of missed it and I can’t believe I’m typing this but he made subs before the 70 minute mark.
Don’t know what people see in Lucas Perez but he was really poor when he came on, like he didn’t want to put the effort it at all, body language was a disgrace ,expect him to now be sold asap Emery needs to drill the boys on shooting practice ASAP, woeful PKs except AMN who’s really a boss Smith-Rowe,AMN are clearly going to be something special, you could see that from a mile Guendouzi is an all-rounder,very sleek with ball, decent signing, Cech very unlucky at the end, did his best and saved 3 PKs,was a man-mountain Good performance overall, very intense and… Read more »
Anyways, the ex-manager was too busy with his zip! We should have at least one of those coats on permanent display somewhere for posterity 🙂
Lucas Perez makes the top 20 for chances creates in Europe last season I think. According to Pierre’s logic, he is indispensable.
Perez was gash, really a nothing signing and should be no where near the team, bin him already and get a decent winger
lol Marc agree!!
And agree with Michael also…. give him time.
In terms of thoughts: – Liked the shape of the team. In general it we had a solid shape in defence. Once we lost the ball there was always a double pivot in midfield, and when going forward down one side the opposite full back was coming very narrow, like what Pep does. – The pressing doesnt really seem to be there yet. Ramsey was playing alongside Lacazette pressing as soon as we lost the ball, then falling back into a 4-1-4-1 if we didnt win it back, but it was a bit incoherent – Our defence still looks rubbish.… Read more »
Also, loved that Emery was constantly on the touchline.
Makes you realise just how much of a handicap Wenger sitting on his hands in silence was.
The idea that letting the players figure things out could ever be better than making various changes is ludicrous.
Folks, don’t underestimate how a good AM, raises the game of everyone. A firing ozil will make them all play better
Jamie It’s not so much that you are required to name three over 21 it’s the possible consequences of what happens if you don’t.There are dispensations about taking keepers in on emergency loans mid season but you are unlikely to be given the ok if you haven’t named 3 seniors in your squad but named GK in your under 21 list It is extremely rare that any club would go into a season without naming 3 over 21 year old keepers and from memory a few years ago when Newcastle suffered injury to their two seniors they had no choice… Read more »
“Folks, don’t underestimate how a good AM, raises the game of everyone. A firing ozil will make them all play better”
Do we have any good AMs though?
I think we should all give credit to the man responsible for bringing Smith-Rowe through the ranks: Arsene Wenger!
“I think we should all give credit to the man responsible for bringing Smith-Rowe through the ranks: Arsene Wenger!”
Smith-Rowe didnt play a single minute of senior football last year.
Didnt make the bench even once.
gambon I think u’re overreacting a bit regarding our defense, sure we could do with a really world-class player there but would’nt worry much if we start the season as it is.. Emery Paired Mustafi and Holding in the first half and you could clearly see the lack understanding from the pair,Holding has got to go on loan and Mustafi was surprisingly assured compared to last season I like the second half pairing more..Sokratis and Mavro, seems to communicate more and complement each other better, suppose a Torreira -Xhaka Pivot will help defensively apart from one or two iffy moments they did… Read more »
Gambon
Jokes dude
Interesting take, lads.
So in short, there’s still a lot to do. Our starting 11 is far from clear, and those who played, today, gave an ok account.
I like the idea of Emery being pragmatic. We don’t require a puppet master being melodramatic on the touch line. Just need a manager who’s willing to be vocal and address shite when he sees it.
“Smith-Rowe didnt play a single minute of senior football last year.
Didnt make the bench even once.”
Why are you such a party pooper Gambon? Give the AKB’s something to hold on to, anything no matter how ridiculous it is.
Idiots – anyone trying to give credit to Wenger for Smith Rowe or anyone slagging either Wenger or the player off for the same reason.
Give it a fucking rest.
I read here during the course of the match that Lacazette was having a poor game and his finishing ranged from tame shots to straight at the keeper.
Yet the match reports i have read on ESPN, Daily mail and Goal credits Oblak with making good saves, one even wrote that each save was better than the last.
So i wonder who’s version to believe
Laca was crap.
Receding
Watched the match, all tame or straight at him. Not one required an above average save.
I thought preseason games are to help players integrate into a new system ( when there’s a new coach) and also to gain fitness. Some of I should just calm down. About 50-70% of these players won’t be in the starting 11.
KAY boss
Maybe you should calm down and stop trying to tell everyone that they arent allowed an opinion.
Pessimistic pat
Okay
I have always wondered why he has problems striking the ball hard at times.
He did that against Chelsea at the Emirates last season, turned Cahill sweetly then a tame short which allowed Courtois to get down and save
Same against Man United,
when players don’t have the ball @ the back of the net, we criticise them, but nobody seem to give credit to the opposing keeper for making good saves. Laca is being criticised not because he had a bad game but because some didn’t see Auba in the CF role. Simple!
Gambo,
I’m not saying no one hasn’t got an opinion. All I’m dying is things shall get better. Don’t misinterpret what I said. Thanks.
