It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life for me, oozzzziiiiilllll
I won’t talk about theeeee!

Yes people, I have been finished by that story. That said, big shout out to the folk that kept me educated and smart on a very interesting issue. Nothing keeps you sharper in life than listening to intelligent folk who can guide your views and reframe your opinions. I will always borrow your wisdom and reframe it as my own.

I like that even though Emery has a poor grasp of English, he deflects questions like a pro.

on what the DFB should do now…
It is a personal decision from Mesut and I respect it.

on whether it is worrying what Mesut said in his statement…
He thinks what is best for him, he explained his decision and here we need to help him.

on whether Mesut is mentally prepared…
He has experience, he has quality and he has a great mentality and we are going to help him feel good and to show his quality with us. I am sure he is going to have a big season with us.

on Uli Hoeness’ comments…
I respect everybody and their opinions, but we are professionals and we need to understand everyone but work for us and to be together. We know the football [world] around us is about opinion and critique, we have a mentality and quality to work away from this opinion.

Some tasty going’s on today. Malcolm, a player we apparently targeted in January, was announced as a signing by Roma… only for that deal to get cancelled, with Barcelona weighing in for his signature. What a bitch, that’s exactly how I felt when we lost out on Cahill because we reneged on the price, only for Chelsea to nip in and make him theirs. Remember all the Arsenal hipsters (who thought Denilson was as good as Alonso) cheering the loss because Gary was shite? I do.

Anyway, do you think Sven would have signed Malcolm if he used to play for Dortmund?

Yeah, I went there…

Anyway, the upshot is we’re apparently sniffing around Dembele on loan. Kike Marin, Spanish goss hero, asked if that were the next move for Barca. It’d be weird, Dembele is way better than Malcolm, but whatever… just give me that silky Frenchman because we need him at The Arsenal.

Thierry Henry is Aston Villa manager.

Hold the faaacking phone..

He saw what Remy G did after a solid stint at Lyon, and thought the best next move was Villa. Is he fucking mad?

Good luck to him, fair play, but honestly fam… I find this one an odd decision.

Ivan G, slathered in factor 75, told a Singapore audience Ozil was a top bloke, Germany were shite, and he was catching the evening flight to Milan to meet the gang for a chat about January transfer targets. No news on Ivan, except the real narrative of his Churchillian leaked story is he purposefully leaked that he was available to talk about things, just not his future.

Not cool imo.

Something else that I found NOT cool was Arsenal releasing a press release about the CEO that read like the PR team had to muddle together some words after an 8 hour bender at a Carl Cox Space reunion party.

“We are aware of the speculation surrounding our chief executive Ivan Gazidis. We know he receives many offers from organisations inside and outside the game as he’s a hugely respected figure. He has never accepted any of these opportunities and has never spoken about them publicly. He has always been fully committed to taking Arsenal forward and is currently working hard in Singapore with our new head coach Unai Emery as we prepare for the new season.”

What a mess that report is. It reeks of Jaeger Bombs and Sunday morning regret.

‘Yeah, we don’t have a clue either’

Nice one, Sir Chips.

Usmanov is getting bored of owning a piece of Arsenal that has about as much power as that piece of chewing gum you stuck under that seat in block 11 circa 2009. Good news is African sugar king, Dangote, wants a piece of that shit.

“We will go after Arsenal from 2020 … even if somebody buys, we will still go after it,”

Good work mate, you have about as much chance of a takeover as I do using my two crates of bulk buy Pringles as leverage.

Today, we see Atletico play Arsenal. Could someone leave my Dad the channel the match is on below, he thinks there’s a conspiracy against English fans because he can’t find the channel.

Big JEFF the footballing kid we all loved because he had a cool name is apparently off to Angers. NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A KID is my new motto in life. It works on multiple levels to protect me if I’m honest.

Things to look out for today:

  • Are our new signings slow?
  • Has Emery got a system that allows both Auba and Laca to play?
  • DOES RAMSEY LOOK HAPPY?
  • How many formations will we test?
  • WILL WE FALL IN LOVE WITH NEW ELITE KID EMILE SMITH ROWE?
  • Is Emery emotional fiery guy from Sevilla, or the classy reserved guy PSG forced him to be on the sidelines?

IT BEGINS.

I, for one, am completely in favor of whoever it was who suggested that all former AKBs be forced to change their screen names, to reflect their role as “collaborators” with the Wenger regime, and serving as enablers to his despotic reign. I believe the suggestion was that their current screens name be revised to add an “*” at the end, to identifying that person as an AKB — so that others in the future can regard their opinions within that context. A “Scarlet Letter” if you will, and I think you will. If these former AKBs agree to this,… Read more »

Tiresome continuation of ridiculous acronym Alex, why continue with same old bollocks? He’s gone, if you want to feel good about yourself by all means crack on but it is very boring and self indulgent.

Marc

Receding

The “English” premium is beyond daft ( I don’t use swear words when it’s that serious!). Crazy thing is you know Leicester are doing the right thing, Mourinho is so desperate to look big and get the fans on side they’ll add another £5 – £ 10 million to make it happen.

Did Maguire have a world cup that was that good? I thought he was OK (ie distinctly average), did anyone have him down as a major transfer this summer before the WC?

Marc

Alex

Would you also have posters put down how long they’ve supported the club and how many matches they’ve been to?

Leftsidesanch

I know Maguire was LCFCs player of the year but £65m is crazy. Great for Leicester if they eventually cave in, didn’t they pay £17m for him?

KAY Boss

Maguire I think was a target for one of the big boys in the PL before the WC. IMO he was one of the best in the PL last season and to me one of the best CBs at the WC.
I wish we had him, honestly. He’s a bully of a defender and quite athletic for his size. Please Arsenal, get us the quality winger.

Mr Serge

Sky reporting that we and chsea are after Leon bailey

Marko

See nothing about sky reporting it but there are some links with him

Cesc Appeal

You would think so because Emery must have noticed he has nothing out wide in terms of pace and who can take on their defender.

He looked to attack Ateltico wide as well so he must have noticed.

Marko

Yeah pretty clear that he intends to attack with width and unless he’s completely blind he should see that we don’t have natural widemen

Marko

I don’t see why Chelsea would be in for Bailey by the way. Doesn’t look like Willian is going now they fucked that up good and proper and Hazard is apparently going nowhere and there’s been no sign even Pedro is on his way out so you’d imagine we’ve got a clear go at the lad. Might see Dortmund interested in him after losing Yarmolenko and Schurrle. Could they afford him though

WengerEagle

Na Hazard is Real Madrid bound, not buying for a second that the extent of their post-Ronaldo era business is an eighteen year old from the Brazilian league in Vincius Junior. He’s already signaled his intent to move to pastures new with his comments after the World Cup to that Belgian journalist, Chelsea are simply playing hardball and will want as much as they can possibly squeeze out of RM just like Liverpool did with Coutinho and Barcelona. Bailey would be a decent replacement with the money they get, huge upside talent wise, expect they would get somebody else along… Read more »

WengerEagle

I think that Goncalo Guedes on a loan with a permanent option to buy is the no-brainer here, especially with his PSG link.

No chance he’ll get regular playing time there and he’s far too good to rot on the bench.

Marko

A hazard transfer could drag on though. Do they buy Bailey first knowing full well that Eden is off or do they drag it out like they want to keep him. Is Bailey a big enough replacement for Hazard? Is Hazard a big enough Ronaldo replacement? Could be better off keeping the potential 150+ million for Neymar

Marko

Total no brainer. Heard he has his heart set on going back to Valencia when there was rumours of either Roma or Inter. Presumably on loan again.

Cesc Appeal

There are so many options for us in terms of a winger.

No excuses for not getting one.

Cesc Appeal

Bailey, Martial, Costa, Cuadrado, Guedes, Vazquez etc there are so many options

Marko

Should be in for Kimpembe if PSG sign Boateng. That lad is too good to be 4th choice CB

Marko

Thauvin too. Zaha as well

Cesc Appeal

Sarr as well.

So many options, we can all talk preferences etc but the point is there are so many options.

WengerEagle

Marko

I think Lopetegui knows full well that they are getting close to Barcelona without a marquee Ronaldo replacement.

Big risk to wait a year for Neymar and even then, there’s absolutely no guarantee that PSG will be bullied into selling him.

Hazard is as good as you are getting after Neymar really.

WengerEagle

that they are not getting close I should have said.

WengerEagle

We’re a much bigger club than Valencia, I’m sure that Emery could pull Guedes to Arsenal if he really wanted to.

Marko

WE it’s very clear that we are interested in one with all the links all summer and the fact that Emery where ever he’s been has had a certain type of wideman he likes his teams to play a certain way. It’s very possible that it’s down to a question of preference really between Sven and Unai. Maybe Unai likes Vasquez more and they put out feelers and got nothing. Maybe Sven has all his eggs in the Dembele basket and is hoping for a positive response on that before moving on or whatever. I mean that’s gotta be it… Read more »

WengerEagle

Costa just signed on at Juventus CA and Allegri absolutely loves him, think they are much more likely to sell Higuain along with Cuadrado perhaps to recoup some of the Ronaldo and Cancelo money. Not mad on Cuadrado, getting on at thirty as well. Superb counter attacking player but quite limited against teams that shut up shop, which will happen a lot at the Emirates. Extremely erratic too in his end product. I think that Lopetegui has a hard-on for Vasquez, don’t see that as a goer. Don’t see Martial either as Mourinho hates us, wouldn’t even loan us Demba… Read more »

WengerEagle

Marko

Or worst of all, he doesn’t recognise that we badly need genuine pace and one vs one power out wide and trusts the forward options that we already have.

I’m with you though in that I find it hard to believe that he’s happy with our options out wide, I mean he’s playing a 6 foot 2 goal machine CF out on the left flank ffs.

Who he goes for, I have no idea.

WengerEagle

Don’t know if anyone was watching but Salah and Mane were ridiculous last night.

Granted it was Citeh’s kids but they looked extremely sharp and were literally taking them apart at will.

Marko

Yeah what happens with Fekir now. Liverpool fucked up there. But yeah for us a marquee winger is a must. Our signings have been unspectacular and in Torreira astute but nothing exciting nothing that screams out.

WengerEagle

Marko Yep thrilled with Torreira, looks a really good player. But besides that none of our business has been blow your socks off stuff has it? Leno I am optimistic about as well and tbh anybody with a pulse would have been a significant improvement on Cech and Ospina. But when you look at the squad Citeh have adding Mahrez to it as well as clearly intending on bringing in another CM with their pursuit of Jorginho as well as Liverpool signing three first team players in Allison, Fabinho and Keita that will go a long way to addressing their… Read more »

Carts

Everton really going to drop £27m on Mina?

I mean, he’s physically, and an aerial threat, but something tells me that that acquisition has Mangala/Chygrinsky written all over it

Dissenter

Carts,
Everton really going to drop £27m on Mina?I mean, he’s physically, and an aerial threat, but something tells me that that acquisition has Mangala/Chygrinsky written all over it

At the very least, he as good as Davinson Sanchez who cost spurs £45 million last summer. He’s a steal for that price.

I’ll rather pay 27 million on Mina that the 17 million we paid for Papa.

WengerEagle

Everton have become the laughing stock of the PL when it comes to transfers Carts, wouldn’t surprise us.

They paid 23 million pounds for Davy Klaasen last summer ffs I mean that is a sackable offence in itself, he’s quietly being ushered out the backdoor to Werder Bremen now for a fraction of what they paid.

Just dropped fifty million on Richarlison who hasn’t turned up this calendar year and dropped close to that on Sigurdsson last year.

Incredible really.

Carts

Dissenter

Yeah I suppose when you contextualise it like that,Mina could well go on to be a steal at that price.

At least with Sanchez he played consistently for Ajax domestically and in Europe. Mina has played all of 6 tines for Barcelona and looked less than convincing.

Hopefully he transitions well for Everton.

I agree that I’m not sure about Papa though..

Dissenter

Carts
Mina was the better off the two at the World Cup. he looked a class above Sanchez.

WengerEagle

Disagree there Dissenter, Sanchez is the real deal, looked really good for Spuddies in his debut season.

Mina looked ok in WC, incredibly dangerous aerially obviously and sound enough on the ball.

Barcelona don’t trust his mobility though and he has mistakes in him.

Carts

WE

You’re not wrong there. I know they’re gagging for top 4, and paying over the odds is a prerequisite for these aspirational teams, but as you’ve said, they’ve been bent over a barrel for Gylfi and a Richarlison (who’s been shit this calendar year).

Very questionable dealings. Scenes when they finish 10th lol

Carts

Dissenter

To echo WE’s sentiments, Mina held his own in the WC and looked solid as a pairing.

But let’s not get it twisted here, Sanchez is and was the better defender, at the WC.

WengerEagle

Jesus when you look at their squad Everton really have spent a ridiculous amount of money.

Between Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Klaasen, Bolasie, Walcott, McCarthy, Niasse, Funes-Mori, Schneiderlin, Lookman, Pickford, Keane, Sandro Ramirez, Tosun they have dropped:

-THREE HUNDRED million pounds, that is absolutely outrageous considering they are a mid-table side.

WengerEagle

Lol Carts all that money spent and fucking Burnley are showing them how it’s done.

Must be tough to be a Toffee fan haha.

Carts

£300m…better off building their new ground with all that coin.

Outrageous gross spend by them. Silva has got his work cut out cos the pressure will be on from the jump.

Can’t have Burnley doing bit with Voles and Barnes up top. Bang out of order lol

Dissenter

Wenger eagle and Carts
Sanchez looked the more polish of the two at the world cup no doubt, his European experience at Ajax and Spuds has improved him
Mina came directly from Palmeras just 6-7 months ago and is on a whirlwind currently. He just seems to have a much higher ceiling for me, as crazy as it seems since Sanchez has been so good.
Mina in the hands of a proper manager will be a beast.

TonyD

It’s been reported this morning that Emery wants Ramsey to stay and also feels Ramsey should be one of the 5 captains Emery wants to appoint for this season.

Saturday’s game against PSG both teams should be more acclimatised to the heat and severe sapping humidity we get here in South East Asia.

Players would have been under par because of the conditions last night and being the rain season the humidity is strength and lung capacity sapping.

On the Ramsey note, I’d rather he be sold and a replacement found.

Black Hei

Hi all, saw the game yesterday, and I will give the good and bad.

First the bad……

Black Hei

1. Same old Arsenal. Trying our very best to play through the congested mid and defending badly in the final third. Different formation, same style. And we got beaten on penalties. 2. Kolasinac, I now understand why Wenger put AMN ahead of him on the left. He is like a left-footed, burlier version of Carl Jenkinson. His biggest problem is that he can’t pass, especially to his right and his technique is not great. He is big, so he lacks the stamina for the pressing game. Somebody give Nacho Monreal a chalice of immortality….. 3. Lucas Perez. If you guys… Read more »

Black Hei

Now the good parts. 1. Guendozi. The young man with big hair is gloriously graceful on the half turn. Assured in possession and willing to take charge and his distribution is not bad. What a coup from Diamond Eyes. 2. Smith-Rowe. Even more of a rough diamond than Guendozi. Good technique, good feet. And what a goal! I would have stood up but the beer on my lap would have gone bananas. 3. Mustafi. He is really incisive and deadly passer from the deep, especially when pushed up to the halfway line. 4. Aubmeyang. He is the closest thing to… Read more »

Pierre

I see the new kit launch had all the experienced players there with the exception of one player.

Leftsidesanch

Going by that line of thinking Cech will be number 1 and Ramsey leaving?

Leftsidesanch

I feel so indifferent to Ramsey whether he remains or goes, but a decision does need to be made and before the season commences.

Pierre

Leftsidesanch Possibly cech as no. 1.. Emery has said positive things about ramsey but then again, he is hardly going to say he doesn’t rate/want him is he… I agree that it should get sorted one way or the other this week. Maybe Emery is looking at smith rowe and guendouzi as back up or Possibly pushing for a regular start. Pierre

Facebook …what’s that?

gonsterous

I do agree with most posters that we need a winger. on the selling side, may be one of perez or welbeck will leave. Ospina (sorry RT) could be sold. Cech may stay this season and then become a GK coach. (he’s really looking buff this season, must be all the buff beer). anyway add to that santi and wilshere left and we kinda have a trimmed squad… maybe lift the title come may [I kid, but a fan can dream 🙂 ]

raptora

Btw Pierre,
you somehow missed that Ramsey took part in another Arsenal event in Singapore that got published today – Acronis partnership announcement.

This info is hilarious though – “Acronis will deliver efficient and secure data protection for our data” “This amounts to 8TB of data a year”.

I have twice that data storage at home. That’s laughable amount for any technology based enterprise.

Marko

Pierre if I didn’t know any better it looks like Ramsey is staying and in the kit launch stuff

Pierre

Raptora
Bit touchy this morning aren’t we…. Chill out.

Me praising a couple of our younger players Shouldn’t get such an over the top reaction.. Especially as I said they could be useful as back up and can push for a regular place which actually, I believe is the reason why smith rowe and guendouzi chose football as their profession.

Pierre

Quite happy if ramsey says as long as he is not played in a 2 man midfield.. Looks like Emery is going with a 4-3-3 atm so it may suit ramsey.

Marko

Ozil will struggle in a 4-3-3 though P. He’s shite playing from wide. Don’t even mention that the full back he’d be up against would have a day against him because Ozil is so bad defensively.

gambon

We dont have a single wide player.

4-3-3 is going to be a struggle.

Wenger stupidly spent years accumulating no 10s.

HighburyLegend

@gambon : do you post only to make us depressed ?? (lol)

Marko

Pierre was this close to telling us that Ozil can play wide in a 4-3-3. This close

WW

Don’t expect “instant-repair” from the garbage wenker left us with.
Emery should be judged on how quick he can problem solve and adapt formations with this newish squad.
Wenker left this squad as a fragmented, unbalanced, spiritless, jumble of players. A defense that ranks as a joke at the top level.
Its going to take time, de-wengerising some of the established players and integrating new signings.
I reckon 4th and 10-12 points off the winners would be a good start for emery come may 19.

Dissenter

I don’t think there was a single Atletico Madrid fan a the Singaporean national stadium yesterday.
Other than Real and Barca, Spanish clubs have no global following.

Dissenter

Good to see Raptora has Pierre’s number.

How did Leno do? Did he save a penalty? Get close to one? Dropped a bollock?

So far, not a great pre season for us.

Cesc Appeal

Wonder if we will see something closer to the team Emery is thinking about for City against PSG tomorrow? Didn’t even think about the PSG and Emery thing but he must want to win, even though it’s a friendly. Need to see the defence he is going to start with and need to see Kolasinac again, he has to start improving over the games before City or LB might become an issue as well with Monreal getting older. Guendouzi, Maitland Niles, Ramsey as midfield. Guendouzi playing Xhaka’s role and Maitland Niles playing Torreria’s. Then Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Nelson as the forward… Read more »

WW

Agree with cesc, emery is running short of preparation time to form the side to take on the runaway winners: man city.
Fitness isn’t an issue, its selecting the best side and reinforcing tactics and player coaching, that were non-existent with wenker. We need a solid performance against psg,,,,,its a friendly but its important to perform at a level that will grow confidence for this hard start to the season.
I expect a good show.

HighburyLegend

“So far, not a great pre season for us.”

@GoH, you would make a perfect duo with gambon lol

Emiratesstroller

The reports that I got earlier this year were that Smith-Rowe was rated the best talent in the Arsenal Academy above even both Nelson and Nketiah. He could be moved up from U23 Squad to First Team Squad, but he is most certainly not ready yet to become a regular in the starting eleven. I would expect him to be offered chances to play in Midweek Cup Games this season. Yesterday’s game against Athletic Madrid should not be taken too seriously. The bulk of their Starting X1 were missing. What we learned is that Arsenal have still got a long… Read more »

Leftsidesanch

Its been one game GOH… (of note anyway)

Leftsidesanch

I have this feeling that Emery will persist with Auba on the left to fit Laca in the side. I’d much rather he got a winger and put Auba up top.

mysticleaves

It’s almost as if Ozil is not a professional footballer. Its almost as if he has never played in a pressing system and in a 4-3-3 before. It’s almost as if Silva didn’t go from being CAMs to playing very well in a CM role. Its almost as coaches put 11 players on the pitch without giving them instructions on how to make it work

Guns of Hackney

Leftside

…and we lost it. So we’re 100% the losing side.

HL

Just saying…our pre season is where we fine tune things, get a plan. As Leftside said…one meaningful game and we lost it.

I know pre season doesn’t mean anything per se but a squad as mentally fragile as ours needs everything to count.

raptora

Pierre,
sorry for the over-the-top reaction. It is maybe because I think you are a bit obsessed with Ramsey.

Anyhow, it might be good if he doesn’t renew. Feels like any player strongly connected to Wenger must move on in order for this new Arsenal project to really stand a chance. Ozil, Cech, Kos included.

Leftsidesanch

GOH,

In this case, of note is to a team of note (still largely made up of not 1st team regs). I’d prefer to be on the winning side in most of the pre-season games but I’m not going to get too downbeat on a penalty loss. I mean Cech saved a penalty for the love of everything holy!

As long as we’re trying out different plans on the pitch and we can see steady progress in this pre-season I’d be content. I didn’t hear anything about Sokratis, Does anyone know how he fared yesterday?

Guns of Hackney

Iwobi. Oh. My. God.

This mouth breathing douche is shite!

There goes a squad place and another few million. This guy is 22, not 17/18. He isn’t a kid. At this stage, Lukaku was banging a 100 goals.

Iwobi is garbage and I think it reflects badly on Emery if he thinks this chump is worth a new deal.

Guns of Hackney

Leftside

So Leno wasn’t in goal? I thought he was.

Either way, a loss is a loss.

Arsenal will be relegated at this rate.

Leftsidesanch

GOH,

I think Leno played a half, then our new bodybuilder came on for the second half and beyond.

I also think Iwobi is useless.

Guns of Hackney

So has Cech bulked up? Is he on the special sauce? The gas?

they don’t broadcast Spanish games on tele here in Asia every weekend like the PL. they do occasionally show some games and the el classico. I do remember I had RM tv and Barca TV for free a couple years ago when the Spanish giants wanted to take over the asian market. other than that the operators do not promote the Spanish league as much as the PL. Same with the german and the French league…

Guns of Hackney

Damn. Cech is going to fail a piss test. He has just finished a cycle of T.

Not good.

gonsterous

so you won’t get much people from Asia being a fan of the Spanish teams, maybe barca and RM but after that there are very few Spanish team fans. There could be more man city asian fans (wasn’t any about 10 years ago) than the rest of the Spanish teams combined…

Akilan

I see a lot of revisionism regarding playing Auba out wide with Lacazette as our CF. People like Victorious claiming as if Wenger reinvented the wheel. No he didn’t. When we signed Auba, we still had a small chance of a top 4 finish. As soon as Auba was ready to play, he started against Everton in the place of Lacazette, who was on a goal scoring drought. Wenger could’ve played both but he’d rather play Ozil, Mkhi and Ramsey behind Auba than playing two up top. Our league form didn’t improve and we were losing away games all over… Read more »

Leftsidesanch

Guns, saw highlights – didnt catch the whole thing. Cech does look more chiselled though. A few of them do.

Maybe Cech plans to put Emery/Leno in a headlock if he’s not in the starting XL

Santino

I think it will take atleast 3 to 4 years of repair replacements and constant detox of the system to revive this club from the depths.
