Can kids lead the way with chance creation solve?

A QUICK POST FROM ME TODAY.

I know we’ve been here before, but anyone dropping HOUSSEM SIGNS exclusives that is a random twitter handle or someone that has NEVER had a story in their life… is lying… or taking the weird guy at the end of the bar a little too seriously.

No intermediaries are calling up a random Twitter handle called @GOONERTVLEGIT to update him on the deal. Watching these outright liars correct each other on their stories is twilight zone stuff.

No one from Arsenal calls up a new website with logistics of a player deal.

My questions is this: Why do fans engage with it every year?

It is a game of hedging. You feel out where the wind is blowing, then you make a bet. If it lands, everyone thinks you are legitimate. If you don’t, no one forgets you told a big lie.

I’d like to see the study of young men around the globe that pretend to be transfer savants. What is the driving force? Clearly, it’s not being attractive to prospective partners. How much of it do they believe themselves? Is it a disorder?

Maybe it’s so attractive because it’s an easy thing to be good at? Like, making a name in football analysis or scouting is really tough. It’s a lot of effort. It takes time for people to care. Being an ‘ITK’ is as simple as setting up a twitter handle called @ARSENALTRANSFERSPY and firing out a rumour or two.

—–

Nothing really seemed to move that hard through official channels yesterday.

The most exciting rumblings circled around players exiting Arsenal. Bild reckon Leverkusen has struck an 11m euro deal for Kola. That is outrageous money if you ask me, I can’t believe they’ll pay that, but it’s huge regardless. That’s another £120k a week off the wage bill.

Maitland-Niles has been linked with United, who are desperate for anyone to join them. I’d deal with them if they wanted to pay their customary £50m, not sure £22m to strengthen a rival makes sense (again).

Fabrizio, the transfer god all the kids want to be in 2020, reckons Torreira is in Madrid today to nail down his move there. Arsenal hoping for a perm deal, I suspect Edu is suggesting Partey as a way to make that a little easier. I truly hope Arsenal have gone this far for Partey with a fairly strong inkling we’ll land the Ghanaian. We’re certainly cutting our midfield reinforcement recruitment fine if not.

Houssem Auoar is getting so much fake DONE DEAL news because everyone senses this one is close. Aulas is in a bit of a frenzy in the media as he tries to humiliate Arsenal into paying more money for his star. What seems fairly clear is that he can’t shake the giants of Europe into the battle for his star man. That leaves our £40m on the table… which in a global pandemic, probably looks quite good.

Interesting that Aulas cited the Pepe deal as proof we can go higher… no mate, that’s the reason we can’t go higher. What a waste of cash that is looking right now.

Talking of wasted cash… will Soares become a thing at some point, or are we just accepting that was the last gasps of a falling regime? He’s back in training, so let’s see.

I was also pondering Arteta and his ‘project’ mentality with players. He’s a little like the teen romance flicks where a girl takes on a ‘geek’ and makes him a total stud. When he was at City, his projects were Sane and Sterling. Donald Glover and Michael B Gordan in spectacles. He was coaching raw talent to greatness. Now his projects are a little uglier but he’s still gunning for them. He’s making players like Mo Elneny better, but the ceiling is low. Is his luxurious upbringing blurring his reality with some of these players?

I don’t know.

I think his coaching has made great improvements. The players want to win, they are holding each other and themselves accountable, and they fight until the bitter end. What it can’t do is stamp out the mistakes. We have the same collection of players as we did last year, those issues won’t go away that easily.

Also, our creativity and shot production is painfully low because the starting 11 hasn’t really changed. If we don’t create, does there come a point where we look at the system again? Lacazette is a weak link. Saka has been a chance creation kind of player. Will there be a moment in time when we try something new with the front three to unlock more?

These two midfielders that we’ll hopefully sign will make a big difference. Not just because they’ll be great as a pair, but because they offer us up a variety of different combinations that’ll give us more as a squad. Hopefully, those two unlock more creativity, give more variety in our shape, and make teams see us in a different light.

We don’t have them yet and we have another round with Liverpool FC at Anfield tomorrow evening. This game might be a little fairer. We’ll play a blend of youth and senior players and so will Liverpool. The game was 5-5 last year, so it’ll be interesting to see who has the better kids.

Eddie should lead the line. I expect to see Joe Willock back in that double pivot again. We’ll get to see what all the fuss about Saliba is, maybe next to Gabriel who has been impressive so far this season. Will we see some of the other kids? Azeez? Patino? BALOGUN? RUNAR?

What I’m hoping is there is some kid that is going to act as an understudy to Aouar this season. Surely, just one creative player for the season isn’t the plan?

So many possibilities.

Let’s hope we put on a show. I’ll join you for a podcast tomorrow. See you in the comments.

Castagne is tearing it up so far

Ben+D

Why didn’t we consider signing Doucoure from Watford? He looks a useful player – big, powerful and always seems to be at the right place at the right time.

WengerEagle

Calvert-Lewin on fire.

Pedro

Zach, I think we’ll exit Matteo. They really don’t want him around. U21, has a lot of potential, would not be shocked to see him at Lyon or Marseille.

CG

Ancelottis Everton 19th goal scored in their last 5 fixtures.

Calvert Lewis, Richardson and co. entertaining the Everton fans with some swashbuckling stuff.

Handbrake fully off with Carlo.

Dream10

Pedro

Guendouzi linked with a loan to Marseille today

Rich

Kolasinac + Niles out?

Zinchenko in?

I like Niles, he can do a job, but on the ,left he’s a bit like a square peg, in a round hole.

I’d be gutted to lose him, but buying a more functional player with PL experience, who’s much more accomplished in possession would make a lot of sense.

Rich

When I said we should sell Lacazette + Aubameyang, and punt the lot on Richarlison, I was accused of being Richarlison’s agent.

By the end of this season, he’ll be way out f our league and price range, he’s a brilliant football.

Nelson

How can Everton manage to sign James Rodríguez? They don’t even have European football. Today, he plays as an ACM and looks pretty good.

CG

“”””Calvert-Lewin on fire.”””””

These are the types we should be persuing.

Imagine Arsenal having Zaha and Calvert Lewis up front in tandem.

Nelson

If Calvert-Lewin stays hot, Everton can challenge for top4.

‘How can Everton manage to sign James Rodríguez? They don’t even have European football. Today, he plays as an ACM and looks pretty good.”

They signed him on a free transfer but I bet the sign on bonus would have been HUGE, maybe in the 7-figures.

Nelson

Why Everton plays most of their starting 11 in a cup game, except Iwobi? They don’t have academy players?

Dream10

Everton have a lot of cash to spend. They have a quality manager in Ancelloti. He’s a bit behind in terms of the modern stuff like pressing, but he puts players in their right positions and does not overcomplicate things. Picks teams according to the strength of his players.
He isn’t trying to be the star of the show. Let’s see if they can continue the upward trend

Nelson

Dream10

I don’t like Everton’s GK. The last two games, Leon didn’t look good too. Hope he settles down and recovers his last year’s form.

Dream10

Nelson

Yep. Pickford is a liability. They should have gone for Martinez. Back four needs some work as well. They have consistently been linked to Todibo and Zouma.

He was on loan at Everton a few seasons back. Decent defender but they can do better if they go for a young prospect

He’s a bit behind in terms of the modern stuff like pressing….
Have a look at yourself eh?
Who are you in terms of coaching/managing?…just a commentator on a blog…Jesus.
Are you aware of what that man’s won in his career?….are you some spotty 20 year old in your bedroom playing ‘Football Manager’ on your PlayStation?
What a Chimp.

Nelson

But Everton didn’t do high pressing like what the Pools did. But this requires a lot of energy. I don’t know whether Everton squad is deep enough. They even play most of their starting 11 today.

Dream10

Nelson

They have a small squad. Lost Allan tonight to injury.
Digne at CB too.

DivineSherlock

If Everton get Zaha they’ll be a contender for top4 .

Pedro

Jonny, he was beaten by Emery in the Europa League by Emery, he regressed Napoli, and the Bayern player found his training boring and his management too relaxed. His coaching is not what it was.

salparadisenyc

This is a boss lil stat: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the first player to score hat-tricks in consecutive home games under Carlo Ancelotti since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2014. James Rodriguez played in all four matches.

Words on a Blog

Pedro,

The Bayern players may have found his training routine boring, but then they’re used to champagne and caviar.

Before Ancelotti, Everton players had Marco Silva and Sam Allardyce.. Carlo must feel like a refreshing change to them!

salparadisenyc

Everton look better than i can remember, won’t last depth wise but Don Carlo’s having a lil renaissance its seems.

http://backpagefootball.com/why-liverpool-wont-win-the-premier-league-this-season/126313/

In the absence of any news on transfers, I’ve posted the above.

Very conspiratorial, but still pretty interesting.

According to the writer, 63% of Liverpool’s squad are classified as having asthma; the U.K. average is 12%. Interesting, because, if you have asthma as an athlete, you are allowed to take a small number of performance enhancing drugs that other athletes are not allowed to have….so when you see Liverpool’s players running around like maniacs pressing ferociously, could it be the inhalers that keep them going?

WengerEagle

Carlo’s been a fantastic manager over his career, has had success in Italy, England, France, Spain and Germany. [Shame they missed out on the league when he was at Real Madrid, would have been the only gaffer ever to have won every top 5 league in Europe]. 3 CL titles, really should have been 4. Jury is out on whether or not that he still has it though, still very early days at Everton as good as they look at the moment. Really struggled at Napoli and completely lost the dressing room and he also lost the players at Bayern… Read more »

A loan with an obligation to buy is also a possible outcome for this transfer and might satisfy both parties

To go back to the point I was making about the relative weakness of the Bundesliga to put Sancho’s numbers in perspective.
Note that Andrej Kramaric was dross at Leicester, goes over to German – gets inured for one season and now can’t stop scoring for Hoffenheim.
Th Bundesliga is filled with very technical teams but their defenses aren’t up to par. That’s why the likes of Xhaka and Kola can make team of he year.

Peak Carlo was AC Milan, he had the San Siro rocking. build the side around Pirlo, Gattuso and Seedorf patrolling. Maldini partnering Nesta with Kaka and peak Sheva slaying.

Unbeatable until Istanbul.

I can only agree. 🙂

I am willing this to happen.

My football bible is open at this crucial page:

O great DB10, god of footballing,
Please allow us to have the Midfielder of our dreams.
The man who will pull the strings,
To enable us to have consecutive wins.
Partey is the man to make this team cream.

Marko

Nesta and Seedorf were particular favs of mine in that Milan side. Kaka was the titties as well

GunnerDNA

It’s going to be hilarious when MG and Ozil are announced as “like new signings” on Tuesday morning. Edu inexperienced is clearly on display. Why is he even entertaining AM if they aren’t willing to accept LT as part of the Partey deal. Probably Raul who has more clout than these novice would already get these deals done.

WengerEagle

Dissenter Kramaric only played 600 mins of PL football, equivalent of 6.5 matches. He barely got a chance to show what he can do before Leicester gave up on him and shipped him off to Germany. And his stats pale in comparison to Sancho’s in the Bundesliga, he also takes a lot of penalties to prop up his goalscoring stats unlike Sancho who doesn’t take pens. Sancho is LEVELS ahead of Kramaric in literally every other metric of football stats cover. You probably still didn’t rate Gnabry this time last year such is your contempt for the Bundesliga. Lets get Zaha, Aouar, Coutinho and Partey all on loan.
With winning the EPL and CL money we can sign them all next year.

WengerEagle

I still can’t understand how Carlo’s Milan side only won Serie A once during their prime stretch, really bizarre. Had s litany of greats in Shevchenko, Kaka, Pirlo, Seedorf, Nesta, Maldini, Cafu.

Juventus and Inter Milan were cleaning house in the league while Milan dominated Europe. As great a side as they were, they were much better suited to knockout football as they could beat literally anybody in Europe on their night, just struggled to maintain that consistency over a season.

TheLegendaryDB10

Guns of SF

I have been a firm believer that if Zaha came to The Arsenal, his love for the club would carry and push him to do his best at every single game.

The kind of player that we need to try and push the ball into the final 3rd and create goals/ opportunities for himself others (like Auba) to score.

TheLegendaryDB10

Yea I agree DB10

Zaha would be living his dream.
I said yesterday, I wish the team had a soul, and came for a life long gooner, ( who has himself tried to make a move to us)…..

Guns of SF

I mean a lot of footballers are gooners fan wise, but Zaha actually ticks the boxes we need and can help the team…

How cute, considering arteta was a major driving force behind this, he isn’t gone, is he? Nor is edu, so how could this be the last gasp?

TheLegendaryDB10

I really agree with your term “soul”. We’ve been missing this ever since AW removed all remnants of the Invincibles.

We really need to have some bug character to pull this team upwards.

(I am not sure if Zaha is that big character but he will have the guile to move us forward)

MidwestGun

It’s going to be hilarious when MG and Ozil are announced as “like new signings” on Tuesday morning.

As a fan of the team .. what part of that scenario would be “hilarious’?

Must have missed the punch line.

TEN CLUBS in EPL have spent sofar more money in transfer window than ourselves. Indeed our current spend is only marginally more than Fulham!!!

What is blindingly obvious is that transfer mismanagement and inflated wages in recent years has impacted seriously on our ability to “control’ the way that the club is now able to offload players and recruit new ones.

Everyone on the planet knows very well our situation including unfortunately both Lyon and Athletico Madrid.

100% correct.

From ‘Liverpool Offside’ “Whoever starts for Arsenal, though, the bigger question may be over their approach. Arteta is looking to build a side that is comfortable playing out from the back, that can draw a high press side like Liverpool up the pitch and then beat that press, springing the break against what would then be an isolated backline. In Monday’s league game, though, his dogmatic approach—as well as an insistence on playing three at the back against Liverpool’s attacking trio and deadly fullbacks, something that has rarely worked for opponents—proved Arsenal’s undoing and only helped a well-drilled Liverpool to… Read more »

Wenker-Wanger

@graham62.
Obviously agree.
Wenger altered the DNA of the club with help from the money-adoring kroenke.
We lost our tony Adams never say die mentality along the way as the club focused on its cash building business.
Wenger, the economist by trade and nature steered arsenal to a succession of qualifying positions for the lucrative champions league which became its identity.
Compare that to Liverpool and their obsession with winning that coveted premier Ieague.

Funny how every t, d, h blames K, G, W and forgets their own role. When our player wages was capped at 100k, there was a clamour to raise salaries. Because our players were easy picks. When we did not spend big on players, there was a clamour to SSFM. As big clubs do. We did both. Didn’t work out well, did it? Wengaball

What a BS argument. The whole issue is that we spent money BADLY (very badly in some cases). The people you mention, especially Gazidis and Wenger were paid tens of millions to spend it WISELY and they failed miserably. So don’t blame the fans, they didn’t buy Gervinho rather than Hazard, they didn’t tell Wenger to give Bendtner £52,000 a week, or to hire the likes of Mustafi, Perez, or Sanogo.

The fall out from poor judgement in recent years is squarely on Wenger and Gazidis.

Mustafi, mari, Luiz, holding, sokratis, saliba , gabriel.

We have 7 centre backs (plus chambers) and only one being linked with a move.

Rosapirescastlesaka – Gabriel is a left foot CB so will most likely play that role, Mari would be a back up.

People blame Wenger for signing those players. I know that Wenger made the final decision. I would say that our scouting department should carry most of the blame.

Right?

Again we leave the dominant DM position open. It’s no coincidence that the top sides have had an exceptional dDM barring Barca who had a prime goat instead.

It’s no coincidence we’ve looked vulnerable since Gilberto went. Probably the most underrated Arsenal player ever.

andy1886

@Nelson, apparently the scouts didn’t recommend Mustafi (quite the opposite) but Wenger went for him based on stats and ignored the scouts. And then there is the extensive list of ‘I almost signed’ most of whom could have been bought if Wenger wasn’t so fixated on his discredited socialist wage structure.

Lol, went over my head there. Let’s hope that Mikel follows the early Graham and Wenger model and turns around a very functional and tired squad into a dynamic and successful team of winners. Then leaves before it starts to go pear shaped.

Nelson

Andy,

Wenger took on too much work in his later years. I couldn’t believe that he still had time to study those stats in detail. He could be misled by those stats guy. Also, he was disturbed everyday by many noisy fans. It was a difficult job to manage a big football club like Arsenal alone.

I’m not disagreeing, his game has really evolved and he is a fantastic player. But once again our beloved club will brainfart this.

It’s such a simple choice that it is truly maddening.
