Can kids lead the way with chance creation solve?

A QUICK POST FROM ME TODAY.

I know we’ve been here before, but anyone dropping HOUSSEM SIGNS exclusives that is a random twitter handle or someone that has NEVER had a story in their life… is lying… or taking the weird guy at the end of the bar a little too seriously.

No intermediaries are calling up a random Twitter handle called @GOONERTVLEGIT to update him on the deal. Watching these outright liars correct each other on their stories is twilight zone stuff.

No one from Arsenal calls up a new website with logistics of a player deal.

My questions is this: Why do fans engage with it every year?

It is a game of hedging. You feel out where the wind is blowing, then you make a bet. If it lands, everyone thinks you are legitimate. If you don’t, no one forgets you told a big lie.

I’d like to see the study of young men around the globe that pretend to be transfer savants. What is the driving force? Clearly, it’s not being attractive to prospective partners. How much of it do they believe themselves? Is it a disorder?

Maybe it’s so attractive because it’s an easy thing to be good at? Like, making a name in football analysis or scouting is really tough. It’s a lot of effort. It takes time for people to care. Being an ‘ITK’ is as simple as setting up a twitter handle called @ARSENALTRANSFERSPY and firing out a rumour or two.

—–

Nothing really seemed to move that hard through official channels yesterday.

The most exciting rumblings circled around players exiting Arsenal. Bild reckon Leverkusen has struck an 11m euro deal for Kola. That is outrageous money if you ask me, I can’t believe they’ll pay that, but it’s huge regardless. That’s another £120k a week off the wage bill.

Maitland-Niles has been linked with United, who are desperate for anyone to join them. I’d deal with them if they wanted to pay their customary £50m, not sure £22m to strengthen a rival makes sense (again).

Fabrizio, the transfer god all the kids want to be in 2020, reckons Torreira is in Madrid today to nail down his move there. Arsenal hoping for a perm deal, I suspect Edu is suggesting Partey as a way to make that a little easier. I truly hope Arsenal have gone this far for Partey with a fairly strong inkling we’ll land the Ghanaian. We’re certainly cutting our midfield reinforcement recruitment fine if not.

Houssem Auoar is getting so much fake DONE DEAL news because everyone senses this one is close. Aulas is in a bit of a frenzy in the media as he tries to humiliate Arsenal into paying more money for his star. What seems fairly clear is that he can’t shake the giants of Europe into the battle for his star man. That leaves our £40m on the table… which in a global pandemic, probably looks quite good.

Interesting that Aulas cited the Pepe deal as proof we can go higher… no mate, that’s the reason we can’t go higher. What a waste of cash that is looking right now.

Talking of wasted cash… will Soares become a thing at some point, or are we just accepting that was the last gasps of a falling regime? He’s back in training, so let’s see.

I was also pondering Arteta and his ‘project’ mentality with players. He’s a little like the teen romance flicks where a girl takes on a ‘geek’ and makes him a total stud. When he was at City, his projects were Sane and Sterling. Donald Glover and Michael B Gordan in spectacles. He was coaching raw talent to greatness. Now his projects are a little uglier but he’s still gunning for them. He’s making players like Mo Elneny better, but the ceiling is low. Is his luxurious upbringing blurring his reality with some of these players?

I don’t know.

I think his coaching has made great improvements. The players want to win, they are holding each other and themselves accountable, and they fight until the bitter end. What it can’t do is stamp out the mistakes. We have the same collection of players as we did last year, those issues won’t go away that easily.

Also, our creativity and shot production is painfully low because the starting 11 hasn’t really changed. If we don’t create, does there come a point where we look at the system again? Lacazette is a weak link. Saka has been a chance creation kind of player. Will there be a moment in time when we try something new with the front three to unlock more?

These two midfielders that we’ll hopefully sign will make a big difference. Not just because they’ll be great as a pair, but because they offer us up a variety of different combinations that’ll give us more as a squad. Hopefully, those two unlock more creativity, give more variety in our shape, and make teams see us in a different light.

We don’t have them yet and we have another round with Liverpool FC at Anfield tomorrow evening. This game might be a little fairer. We’ll play a blend of youth and senior players and so will Liverpool. The game was 5-5 last year, so it’ll be interesting to see who has the better kids.

Eddie should lead the line. I expect to see Joe Willock back in that double pivot again. We’ll get to see what all the fuss about Saliba is, maybe next to Gabriel who has been impressive so far this season. Will we see some of the other kids? Azeez? Patino? BALOGUN? RUNAR?

What I’m hoping is there is some kid that is going to act as an understudy to Aouar this season. Surely, just one creative player for the season isn’t the plan?

So many possibilities.

Let’s hope we put on a show. I’ll join you for a podcast tomorrow. See you in the comments.

There’s time enough on Guendouzi’s contract to get a loan fee for a year then sell him next summer. Hopefully he’ll have a good season somewhere else and we’ll get a better fee next year.

Marc

“People blame Wenger for signing those players. I know that Wenger made the final decision. I would say that our scouting department should carry most of the blame.”

Then why didn’t Wenger fire the scouts and get better ones?

Kaz

Would prefer if we could loan Guen to develop and not sell. I personally don’t think what he did to Maupay was that bad, yeesh. About time we had a bastard.

Keane did wonders for United after all.

Could have a very nasty combative midfield next season with him and Partey (fuck outta here Auoar)

Left testicle

Guendouzi is no Roy Keane.
I don’t think it’s what happened with Maupay that is the problem.

raptora

Wenger loved his Authoritarian regime. Can’t come up with the “he had a rough life” when we all knew he was power hungry lunatic who wanted YES people around him so he doesn’t get questioned, so things go his way 100% of the time. A vivid commie.

No wonder we ended up with bloated wages for random ass players like Kolasinac, Sokratis, Xhaka, Mustafi.

andy1886

Surprisingly I’m more confident now that Partey is still a possibility. Looks like AM have spent around £80m this summer (not all paid up front I know) so will have to make at least one big sale. I’m sure they would rather sell Lemar but are there any takers?

Emiratesstroller

ARRIVALS Arsenal need to focus on Aouar and Partey and no-one else. Taking second best would be a bad policy decision. My view all along has been that Arsenal can afford to buy at least one of these two players in this window irrespective of sales. Arsenal are not so impoverished as they keep on telling everybody. PARTEY. If that was our first choice then as I suggested many times in past I expected Arsenal to buy him on the final day of transfer window leaving Athletico Madrid with option of swapping him for Torreira or with little time to… Read more »

@Left

Guen is still young and has oodles of talent. He was always brave and definitely has fight in him. He just needs some elite coaching we keep hearing about.

Having Partey would be such a positive role model too.

I’d take Guen and Partey as a base over any other midfield combination easily.

Guns of Hackney

Is Arteta still in a job?

andy1886

Twitter is okay if you can’t focus on a conversation any longer than 280 characters I guess. No wonder some people can’t construct a decent argument…

Probably not ideal for Stroller either……..(just pulling your leg there old chap).

Why use 5 words when you can use 55. 🙂

Kola’s salary as it was set was realistic even though we NOW know it was a mistake. The man had just been voted the best left back in the Bundesliga when we got him, so a salary of about 80.000 would have been normal if we’d bought him. As he was a free agent, though, his salary was set higher so we could get him. Obviously, it turned out differently than expected… A lot of Bundesliga players look amazing on paper – Paco Alcacer had a goal every 73 minutes when playing for Dortmund for a season and a half…… Read more »

A club who lacks the financial clout like Arsenal is making too many mistakes in the TW. Whatever money was invested in Mari and Cedric would be of some help to invest in Aouar and Partey, but Arsenal somehow managed to buy two more deadwood players to replace Mustafi and Sok. Something is wrong at this Club, the decision making at times is baffling. I’m not even sure how much scouting was done with Aoura, hopefully his purchase don’t turns out to be like NP. The system is too rigid for creative players. A midfield of Partey, DC and Aouar… Read more »

At least Marcelo Flores is going to sign for us today

We need a deal wrapped up by Friday cob. I hope it’s Aouar as that would leave me confident that Partey could be an at the death signing Monday evening.

Batistuta October 1, 2020  @  10:43:10

He’d have been my primary target to be honest

That’s why I truly hope we don’t fuck this up.

We absolutely need him in our MF. He will transform us and help us move the needle significantly to our next step which is getting back in the top 4.

Come on Vinai, come in Edu. Make. This. Happen!!!!

Kaz

Honestly if we get both Auoar and Partey then we don’t need Ceballos either.

Would be a good time to utilise Willock actually. Having better midfielders around will elevate him.

Nelson

Marc

Wenger was like a father figure to his subordinates and his players. Some of his players were injured for a long time and he still took care of them. It is clear for us now that he didn’t surrounded by enough good peoples.

Kaz

Willock or AMN actually.

Get Saka on the left of the three and not as a fullback.

Shame ESR isn’t quite ready.

GunnerDNA

Kaz,

“Honestly if we get both Auoar and Partey then we don’t need Ceballos either.
Would be a good time to utilise Willock actually. Having better midfielders around will elevate him.

Why? Joe Willock is not good enough to be making a top 6 team 18 man squad on matchdays in the PL.

“I do like the competition Arteta has created in the squad and really look forward to seeing what sort of a stake Eddie can claim against Laca.” Well , at the moment, this season for club and country he is scoring at a rate of a goal every 60 mins. And I know the Eddie doubters think scoring a total of 27 goals in 29 games for England is nothing special , but if you take into consideration that Le groves favourite Balogan has managed a total 5 goals in 18 games, then one can see that it is not… Read more »

Just had to check Nketiah 21 and Balogan 19. Sure try to compare to all the 18 and 19 year olds you like with padded stats it seems very fair.

I Guess Atleti don’t want to put money down for Torreira until the last moment, as we could well use it to buy out Partey’s contract.

If we do get the cash, then buying Partey First makes more sense as Atleti would have no reason not to buy Torreira And that would add what 20m to our Aouar fund.

This is what I suspect might be going on. That and worry about the 90m gate receipts we will be down this year. Our squad desperately needs cutting, many of our players are gash, and other clubs know it.

Bamford10

Soares back in full training and likely to play tonight. Gives Arteta the ability to rest Bellerin.

Leftside

The agreement with Arsenal is close on loan with buy option, but Atléti want to sell Hector Herrera before completing Torreira deal with #AFC.

Kaz

@gunner If you look at what both Auoar and Partey bring to the table and the likely positions they will be asked to play another box to box style midfielder is required to supplement them both and complete the midfield 3. I’d prefer AMN here to be honest and developed as a Matuidi style player but Willock I think could benefit from the run in the team as a box to box with good midfielders alongside him. He’s still young and he won’t develop if we don’t play him. Cebellos and Xhaka definitely can’t play it. Xhaka is ridiculously immobile… Read more »

Guendouzi is still very young and quite raw. He is not the finished article that’s for sure . He has a great competitive instinct and sometimes that gets the better of him, he is a player that never gives up and he could grow into a one of the best midfield players in europe as he matures. He has already captained the very good french under 21 side and his performances for them have been very good. To let him leave the club without trying to sort out the differences could prove to be a poor decision , similar to… Read more »

To continue our discussion from yesterday about both clubs likely playing a lot of kids tonight, I think this will be interesting in itself, just to see where some of our younger players are in terms of their development, but also to see them against Liverpool’s younger players, many of whom are very highly rated. Will be interesting to see how our younger players look and how they look in relation to Liverpool’s younger players.

Leftside

We’ll have to bring Guendouzi back into the fold, we’ve had this long to get deals done incoming and outgoing and here we are 1st October having done nothing of note.

Bamford10

Kaz

I think it would require a massive mental commitment from AMN, and it would obviously require a great deal of quality instruction and time, but I agree that AMN could be transformed into a solid holding central midfielder. His mentality and attitude seem better these days, so perhaps it could be possible. It depends on whether Arteta sees this as a possibility, obviously.

Pierre

Marko “Just had to check Nketiah 21 and Balogan 19. Sure try to compare to all the 18 and 19 year olds you like with padded stats it seems very fair.” In case you didn’t realise , when you play for England under 18 /19 or 21 , you play against countries of the same age bracket.. Balogan has scored 5 goals in 18 goals against 18 and 19 year olds.. Eddie has scored 27 in 29 games against 18/19 and 21 year olds. There would be an argument against comparing both players if they were playing for the full… Read more »

Atleti getting torreira on loan while Arsenal has to either pay the full RC or not get partey at all is such a weak look

Who TF runs shit like this at Arsenal

Honestly would rather keep the player if this is the case. My goodness Arsenal is so poorly run its mind boggling

Knew it was bad but didnt think it was THIS bad

So what happens next year. Athletico uses the player and then returns if they don’t fancy him, then the whole process of trying to offload him starts again.

Habesha Gooner

Well, we folded like pussies. Torriera going to Athletico on loan with an option to buy. We better have a plan to bring in Partey, If not this isn’t a good look for a top club. They haven’t folded and we have. If we are sure we can Trigger his release clause this won’t matter. If we can’t get him then we should have hold out for a permanent deal, or loan him out to another club. as things stand they have won.

Pierre

Bamford
Our kids proved last year that they are more than a match for liverpool.
Martinelli had a very good performance and willock scored a cracker .

Ozil was the best player on the pitch this time last year, his first game of the season, his quality shone through.

Pity Arsenal supporters will not get the chance to see a repeat performance as I’m sure all our fans love watching quality football.

I am hoping our 2 new centre backs get a start, but dont be surprised if Saliba is the odd one out .

Marko

then the age difference would be comparable.

You think it’s smart to compare the stats of a 21 year old against ones of an 18/19 year old? I mean by all means go ahead those extra two seasons make Eddie look better than he is. It’s probably a bit unfair to compare him to actual other 21 year olds I guess. I don’t even know if there was a discussion about Nketiah going on or did you just bring up him and Balogan randomly.

TR7

What do Arsenal get out of a loan plus option to buy deal for Torreira ? Loan plus obligation to buy would still have made sense.

Trask

Ganesha

Same thoughts here

Don’t hold any hope when it comes to competence at Arsenal.

Even if the club has money to pay Parteys RC still loan torreira somewhere else as they were not willing to play ball on the Partey deal.

I mean uve got to behave like dicks some times

Except there’s some other under the table deal going on? Just don’t see it though

Arsenal don’t have the nous for such

Why Aouar Is the answer to arsenal’s midfield.

https://www.goal.com/en/news/why-aouar-is-the-answer-to-arsenals-midfield-problems/ivwdnogtoonu1enseqpx2a10f

This is for those of you that thinks Auoar does not have huge potential to create.

TR7

Unless of course Torr loan deal is a sweetener for Partey deal.

Leftside

Selling Martinez and loaning Torreira makes us weaker. Arsenal played like a fiddle again if so.

Leftside

It has to be TR7, or it makes no sense.

Pierre

Let’s hope Balogan starts tonight, he reminds me of Kevin Campbell who burst on to the scene with his power and strength..

There is a world of difference between playing academy football and first team football, especially for strikers.

Michael Owen and Fowler at 18 were players who made the transition effortlessly, but history shows that strikers do struggle to make an impact…..

Marko

TR7 the only reason I can see us being interested in that deal is if it either helps us get Partey by way of not it being us playing his release clause up front but in installments or it’s the will of the player/our only option left for Torreira. If it ends up them just getting him on loan and telling us nothing’s changed about Partey then it’ll look incredibly bad imo.

Has to be said though if that’s the case I’d try to get a deal done with Marseilles between Kamara and Guendouzi. That would benefit us massively imo

Marko/Trask Not impressed by how things have panned out so far. The only player we have sold so far is the one we should not have sold. Kola is the only one strongly linked with a permanent deal. I believe Vinicius will be a cover for Kane. See their strike force is anyway very good, he adds more depth to it. A lot will depend on whether Ndomble and Celso can raise the level of their game. On paper they should but it hasn’t happened yet. But Spurs definitely better this season than the last in terms of quality of their squad.

andy1886

Concerned about Spurs?

Not really. If anyone is going to pip us to fourth it isn’t going to be Spurs. They’re not really cup winners either, so I doubt that they’ll be adding a trophy anytime soon. They’re only a threat in one-off games if it all clicks so maybe if we meet in the EL, but again that isn’t going to be a top priority either.

If not one midfielder comes in then it’s not just about funds.

It’s a lack of real will and nous from Arsenal.

The take here is that only top, top players with high profile and a transfer fee to match can improve and get into this present Arsenal midfield. A midfield that consists of Elneny, Xhaka and Ceballos. Get out of here.

Arteta is not kidding anyone with this take. Nor the club.

Valentin

It amazes me how according to some who have never seen him play, Balogun is now a better striker than Eddie when Balogun was not even the best striker for the U23 team. Balogun stats looks good because he plays on the shoulder of the last defender and the Arsenal U23 team with their better midfield players is able to release him on quick counter attack. If he had to rely on Elneny and Xhaka to be released into space, he would not score that many goals. On top of that his holdup play is not up to par for… Read more »

Are you suggesting that the under 23’s have a better midfield than the senior team?

Leftside

Having had second thoughts I can only presume that something is happening with Partey. Atletico need to sell a player but would rather sell Hector?

I can only presume that we are letting Torreira (who isn’t dross and will do well there) go if we are confident of triggering Partey’s release clause.

This club needs to be serious, must surely be serious about improving the midfield options or we won’t make any tangible progress.

Marc

“Are you suggesting that the under 23’s have a better midfield than the senior team?”

That’d really have to try very hard to be worse.

Whatever the case may be, the lack of urgency is poor.

Ozil has a professional support team. Against Emery, they always had an upper hand. This time, they have made a fatal mistake. Ozil refused to accept the club’s request for the salary reduction. Instead he supported his other commitments. Suddenly, he can’t claim how he loves Arsenal in the social media. He turned his back when the club is in need.

Tee

“Then why did we turn down a bid for AMN?”

It was turned down because the manager sees him in his plan. Not that difficult to decipher. You don’t just sell players because you need to sell to buy but sell those you think you don’t need to get those you need

The talk of backing would mean throwing a significant sum on midfielders I presume.

Those that think Arsenal will buy both Aouar and Partey by the end of this transfer window are living in cloud cuckoo land most probably.

My point really was that Arsenal are giving the notion that they can’t improve this current Arsenal midfield without throwing 100 million on it. A midfield that consists of Elneny, Xhaka and Ceballos. Come on now.

Marc ultimately if we come up short in terms of players in in my opinion the criticism should be directed at Mikel. Marko, That’s a given that the U23 team had a better midfield relative to the league than the senior team. The previous season it won the Premiership 2, so the overall level of the team was also higher. But being better at U23 level does not mean that the player is ready for senior football. Xhaka and Elneny may be mediocre for an Arsenal team at senior level, but they would still waltz against U23 teams. And that is before we look at the tactical aspect of the U23 games. The current midfield consists of Elneny, Xhaka and Ceballos.

Has that not sunk in for you yet?

That midfield trio is midtable EPL standard and below. No more than that.

Sure we can see Arteta trying to work his way around having such an average midfield with tactics, systems but there has to be a time when it is actually improved rather than being worked around and don’t tell me for one minute only an outlay of 100 million improves on it.

My issue (as usual) is less the lack of spending – under the current circumstances it’s understandable although still frustrating but the double standards.

Can you imagine if this summer had happened under Emery or Sanllehi?

Hopefully it’s just posturing and we’ll get some deals done – if we don’t it’s going to be tough for Arteta.

Valentin

CC,

I don’t know you can interject goalkeeper and Leno in the middle of a discussion about U23 strikers.
We all knew that you had an unhealthy love for Xhaka, but it looks like it now extend to Leno as well.

Anyway, you may be surprised by the quality of some of the U23 goalkeeper. With the exclusion of Matt Macey, most are more than decent.

salparadisenyc

Ish

I get the frustration in the end nobody really has a clue whats going to transpire before market ends. Regardless of all the hot take ITK wannabes roaming twitter.

I never really thought possible to bring both mid targets in, only thing that gives it a bit of hope is this Torreira business. Even then i’m quite suspect.

As much as it sounds like Aouar is nearly there, at this stage I wouldn’t be surprised if two mid field targets rocked up that haven’t been mentioned yet.

Valentin

Marc,

I would rather we did not spend money we don’t have than spunk money on the wrong players.
We are still paying for Raul’s winning the summer TW.

Marc

Valentin

How are Mislintat’s signings getting on? He was your favourite after all?

Tee

” and don’t tell me for one minute only an outlay of 100 million improves on it” You see.what I was saying. You love to fabricate things. You just can’t help it. Who says we need an outlay of 100M to improve our midfield. If you still don’t get it, Arteta is the manager. He sets the tactics, prepares the players and selects them as he deems fit. He knows what he wants in terms of outgoings and incomings. That they don’t achieve their target during this window is another thing but a.manager his expected to go for whoever he… Read more »

Marc it’ll surprise you to know I actually don’t care about double standards. I could care less about arguing with some anonymous dickheads on a blog about hypocrisy I just want this team better I just want better players I want the club back in the champions league and of a better standard than it’s become accustomed to these last number of years. Basically I want us to not be shit anymore. And don’t get me wrong we’re still shit these days just a different kind of shit

I agree with Valentin
If we can’t get Auoar or Partey, keep the gunpowder dry for January when the economic realities would have the selling clubs harder.
I’m tired us us spending on players that only marginally good enough to make our squad like Mari and Cedric

We need to stop acquiring substandard players when the opposition are adding quality to their ranks,

Sounds like a new club slogan:

“a different kind of shit”

“I don’t know you can interject goalkeeper and Leno in the middle of a discussion about U23 strikers.“ The comment I replied to was about comparing an under 23 midfield to the first team. Clearly you missed that. “We all knew that you had an unhealthy love for Xhaka, but it looks like it now extend to Leno as well.” Gaslighting Val is the best Val. My view of Xhaka is balanced, said he’d be important to Arteta and in came Arteta and proved just that. Now I have an unhealthy love for Leno simply by rejecting your ridiculous view… Read more »

Val,
I’m in agreement with your stance on not buying for just buying sake.

We can’t keep stocking up the team with plan B buys just because we have to buy. We also don’t need mainly potentials in all the positions in the team but players who can do the job right away in some positions like our midfield. Which is why I’m hoping we can get partey and Aouar

I don’t know if you just started following football or not but keeping your money for the January transfer window is by far one of a dumbest things a football fan can say. Not only are you gambling with your season as a whole but January windows are notoriously difficult and rarely busy and especially before a major international tournament months later. It’s just not worth talking about

Had the feeling a few days back we were done with incomings and it looks that way at the moment, nothing concrete seems to be on the table and we’re not one to be quiet about our transfer dealings. Shame though but that’s where we are.

Agree though that we have to find a way to integrate Guen and Ozil back in, nothing they’ve done suggests it’s so bad they can’t get a look in considering some of the bland options we’ve got in their position
