Can kids lead the way with chance creation solve?

A QUICK POST FROM ME TODAY.

I know we’ve been here before, but anyone dropping HOUSSEM SIGNS exclusives that is a random twitter handle or someone that has NEVER had a story in their life… is lying… or taking the weird guy at the end of the bar a little too seriously.

No intermediaries are calling up a random Twitter handle called @GOONERTVLEGIT to update him on the deal. Watching these outright liars correct each other on their stories is twilight zone stuff.

No one from Arsenal calls up a new website with logistics of a player deal.

My questions is this: Why do fans engage with it every year?

It is a game of hedging. You feel out where the wind is blowing, then you make a bet. If it lands, everyone thinks you are legitimate. If you don’t, no one forgets you told a big lie.

I’d like to see the study of young men around the globe that pretend to be transfer savants. What is the driving force? Clearly, it’s not being attractive to prospective partners. How much of it do they believe themselves? Is it a disorder?

Maybe it’s so attractive because it’s an easy thing to be good at? Like, making a name in football analysis or scouting is really tough. It’s a lot of effort. It takes time for people to care. Being an ‘ITK’ is as simple as setting up a twitter handle called @ARSENALTRANSFERSPY and firing out a rumour or two.

—–

Nothing really seemed to move that hard through official channels yesterday.

The most exciting rumblings circled around players exiting Arsenal. Bild reckon Leverkusen has struck an 11m euro deal for Kola. That is outrageous money if you ask me, I can’t believe they’ll pay that, but it’s huge regardless. That’s another £120k a week off the wage bill.

Maitland-Niles has been linked with United, who are desperate for anyone to join them. I’d deal with them if they wanted to pay their customary £50m, not sure £22m to strengthen a rival makes sense (again).

Fabrizio, the transfer god all the kids want to be in 2020, reckons Torreira is in Madrid today to nail down his move there. Arsenal hoping for a perm deal, I suspect Edu is suggesting Partey as a way to make that a little easier. I truly hope Arsenal have gone this far for Partey with a fairly strong inkling we’ll land the Ghanaian. We’re certainly cutting our midfield reinforcement recruitment fine if not.

Houssem Auoar is getting so much fake DONE DEAL news because everyone senses this one is close. Aulas is in a bit of a frenzy in the media as he tries to humiliate Arsenal into paying more money for his star. What seems fairly clear is that he can’t shake the giants of Europe into the battle for his star man. That leaves our £40m on the table… which in a global pandemic, probably looks quite good.

Interesting that Aulas cited the Pepe deal as proof we can go higher… no mate, that’s the reason we can’t go higher. What a waste of cash that is looking right now.

Talking of wasted cash… will Soares become a thing at some point, or are we just accepting that was the last gasps of a falling regime? He’s back in training, so let’s see.

I was also pondering Arteta and his ‘project’ mentality with players. He’s a little like the teen romance flicks where a girl takes on a ‘geek’ and makes him a total stud. When he was at City, his projects were Sane and Sterling. Donald Glover and Michael B Gordan in spectacles. He was coaching raw talent to greatness. Now his projects are a little uglier but he’s still gunning for them. He’s making players like Mo Elneny better, but the ceiling is low. Is his luxurious upbringing blurring his reality with some of these players?

I don’t know.

I think his coaching has made great improvements. The players want to win, they are holding each other and themselves accountable, and they fight until the bitter end. What it can’t do is stamp out the mistakes. We have the same collection of players as we did last year, those issues won’t go away that easily.

Also, our creativity and shot production is painfully low because the starting 11 hasn’t really changed. If we don’t create, does there come a point where we look at the system again? Lacazette is a weak link. Saka has been a chance creation kind of player. Will there be a moment in time when we try something new with the front three to unlock more?

These two midfielders that we’ll hopefully sign will make a big difference. Not just because they’ll be great as a pair, but because they offer us up a variety of different combinations that’ll give us more as a squad. Hopefully, those two unlock more creativity, give more variety in our shape, and make teams see us in a different light.

We don’t have them yet and we have another round with Liverpool FC at Anfield tomorrow evening. This game might be a little fairer. We’ll play a blend of youth and senior players and so will Liverpool. The game was 5-5 last year, so it’ll be interesting to see who has the better kids.

Eddie should lead the line. I expect to see Joe Willock back in that double pivot again. We’ll get to see what all the fuss about Saliba is, maybe next to Gabriel who has been impressive so far this season. Will we see some of the other kids? Azeez? Patino? BALOGUN? RUNAR?

What I’m hoping is there is some kid that is going to act as an understudy to Aouar this season. Surely, just one creative player for the season isn’t the plan?

So many possibilities.

Let’s hope we put on a show. I’ll join you for a podcast tomorrow. See you in the comments.

Pedro,

The EFL Cup match against Liverpool is not this evening, it’s tomorrow.

Liverpool game is tomorrow…

“I’d like to see the study of young men around the globe that pretend to be transfer savants. What is the driving force?”

That’s fucking simple – it’s attention seeking.

Robbie from AFTV called out the owners to finance the deals for two of our targets. Good to see some pressure put on them, AFTV has a lot of followers…..

Pedro

Well let’s hope Edu’s doesn’t fall into the same mistake and make a final bid for either player Tuesday lunchtime!

Elneny is Elneny … no coach/manager including Arteta can make him better.

It’ll be a really grim international break if the don’t happen.

To allow Torreira to join Atletico and not involve Partey in return would be unconscionable behaviour and a clear signal that management truly have lost the plot. I know that Atletico want to stand firm, but equally so too should Arsenal. Win-win for both teams and anything else again, shows gross incompetence.

redbro14

Upstate, of course they won’t listen, but I feel if Arsenal don’t back Arteta in this window, it will be a pretty clear signal that they don’t give a toss about pushing the club forward…..

Ernest Reed

I seriously doubt that Stan or Josh could give a flying fadoo what Robbie from AFTV has to say. Hell, i dont give a flying fadoo what that idiot has to say!

Ernest Reed

“my hope is this is face saving from Aulas and Atleti”

Not convinced that there is an actual urgency to sell either, Pedro? As much as they may want to sell both, its not likely they will for Arsenal’s sake – remember, Arsenal’s fiscal mismanagement is not Lyon’s or Atlético’s problem to resolve.

redbro14

Ernest, Stan reads Le Grove every morning before saddling up to check on his ranch!

Leftfootcurler

In this system,it is not the midfielders’ job to bring creativity.

Midfielders’s job is primarily defensive and in passing, the goal is supply the attackers and stretch the opponent’s shape.

Creativity is supposed to come from Willian and Saka in this system.

Ernest Reed

Does Pedro know this, Redbro? This could change everything!

redbro14

Ernest, it’s Stan’s dirty secret, nobody knows, not even Pedro!

Leftfootcurler

Hope to see saliba play tomorrow.

That’s pretty much all I care about in the EFL Cup.

Saka isn’t even first choice – you don’t half talk some bollocks what was it the other day? The Spud’s have a Championship challenging squad.

Marc “Saka isn’t even first choice – you don’t half talk some bollocks what was it the other day? The Spud’s have a Championship challenging squad.” You are pretty clueless. The LWB becomes LCM in possession and drives through the left half space. The RW gets in the right half space looking to combine with CF. Saka and Willian are just taken as examples. Same applies to AMN and Pepe. Although Saka will be first choice on the non big games soon. Once the squad gets upto its peak fitness level it will become clear. As for spurs being a… Read more »

You have to make them better to move them on…..

Marc

Leftfoot

Yeah right you know it all – prick.

Wouldn’t it have made more sense to talk about creativity coming from positions rather than players when players are being rotated quite regularly at the moment?

I mean the idea that a player on the right wing or a wide forward would combine with a striker is ground breaking.

Kris

It’s obvious to anyone with a brain that Torreira will do well in La Liga so Atletico are really being unreasonable. It’s his language, better climate for him, physically weaker opponents, and playing in an already defensive Simeone team. I bet he’s not gonna be much worse than Partey there.

Kris

The thing about Aouar is that his contract is until 2023 so Lyon really don’t have to sell if they think they can get 50 M next year.

Marko

I wonder if we could tempt marseille in a swap between Guendouzi and Boubacar Kamara. Cause it’s not looking like Partey is going to happen.

– “You mean like when Martinelli was benched by Nelson and Nketiah?” So Martinelli should never be benched for others, ever? What’s the angle? He can be more talented but prefer the likes of Nelson it Nketiah in others games. Both have proved useful. – “Or how he’s still not giving any chances to Pepe to get several games in a row.” What kind of logic is this? You earn the right to play several games in a row at most clubs, but not here? – “That Auba hasn’t played a single game as a CF but he decided he… Read more »

Ishola Aouar and Partey are not going to address creativity issues. Their best work comes in the first and 2nd phase not the final 3rd. System is very progressive. 343 morphed into 433 in possession, late runs from WBs into the final 3rd without compromising the team defensively. It’s quite unique actually. We don’t play negative football,we play out from the back and press high up the pitch. These two things are symbols of progressive football. It’s just that those things are not well executed regularly due to personnel issues so you can’t see them. Since low block and counters are… Read more »

Torr knows he is better than Xhakalson, everyone including Simeone knows this but he doesnt get in the team.
It has nothing to do with language, climate or physicality. It has to do with diet Pep and his tactics.

‘Torr knows he is better than Xhakalson, everyone including Simeone knows this but he doesnt get in the team.

I agree with this. Torr has been adjudged Arsenal player of the month twice in a row, something Xhaka has never managed to achieve. I don’t buy the narrative that Torr isn’t fit for the EPL. He was denied much deserved opportunities by Arteta. It’s a re-run of Martinez-Leno episode.

Agree with TR7 regarding Torreira. Never really given a run under Arteta, hard to build momentum coming in and out of the side or as a sub,

Emery must have been on the hardest stuff to deploy him as a no.10 for a bit also.

Habesha Gooner

If we get both Aouar and Partey, I think our potential midfield will be Partey/Elneny, Ceballos/Xhaka, Aouar/ESR/Willock. Willian is definitely staying on the wing for now If both transfers happen. It is a hindrance to pepe and Saka if he was primarily signed to be a right winger but he might be an upgrade. Any way one of willock and ESR along with Nelson will probably go out on loan to play too. I would have preferred Partey’s alternative to be Guendouzi instead of Elneny too. Both transfers would also mean it is curtains fo Ozil’s Career at arsenal. He… Read more »

I think the Aouar deal will go through in the coming days based on the critical mass of momentum now behind it: 1) we already offered not a country mile short of what they want and we know arteta really wants this 2) Aouars replacement has now been signed 3) he wants to come 4) it’s now looking highly likely that we will get more than enough spare change out of selling multiple other players before the deadline to cover any valuation gap 5) no one else is in for him 6) in covid times it’s not a small amount… Read more »

Torreira being played at 10 (off the bench) then getting criticized as not being up to scratch was truly one of the biggest head scratchers of the last few years There’s this weird kinda amnesia that torreira somehow instills in arsenal fans where he is one of our best players where given a run of games in his best position but as soon as he’s out of the team all you hear is ‘he’s short and isn’t cut out for this league’ He’s surely leaving now though so it is what it is. My main interest is the sales because it will be the extent of our sales which determines how we buy

Current big rumors are kola out for 10m, mustafi for 9m, AMN for 20m, torreira out but deal unknown

You’d have to say if all those happen we should actually be able to get Partey as well. Kola’s 10m is surely enough for us to seal the deal with Aouar then the rest is all workable towards Partey if the club is that motivated to get him

salparadisenyc

Lets hope its a busy 5 days.

Have to think Aouar is in along with potentially Partey or plan B of Diawara, Sangaré or unknown with maybe Edouard as well if Laca moves which looks doubtful buts been muted.

Edu doing his best to see Douzi, Kolasinac, Musafi, Torreira , Sokratis and Chambers all out on potential moves.

Full back cover might be too clever but the need is there depending on various things.

useroz

Arteta’s coaching project at City was fine because the squad was (still is) very deep and they can afford Arteta to gloom a couple of less than WC players with high ceiling. Arsenal do NOT have the same even similar luxury. Elneny, AMN et al are not comparable to Zane and Sterling! And Elneny and AMN appear to be starters and that’s like put trainees on the job. Risk of losing points become higher. Arteta must wake the xxxx up. If he wants Partey and Aouar, stick to who have been identified to go and try the best to sell.… Read more »

Let’s be brutally honest, who really sees Willock, Nelson and Eddie making it @ a ‘top 4’ Arsenal assuming Arteat could take us there within a couple of seasons? These guys lack fundamental techniques, guile, etc.

Of the 3, probably for talent, Nelson. However he seems to have hit a glass ceiling in his development. As for Willock and Nketiah, they are Championship pedigree or if lucky, maybe bottom half of the premiership. Balogun has a higher ceiling than the lot.

WengerEagle

‘Have to think Aouar is in along with potentially Partey or plan B of Diawara, Sangaré or unknown with maybe Edouard as well if Laca moves which looks doubtful buts been muted.’

PSV have signed Sangare, for less than 10 million.

And Partey is playing tonight for Atleti, doesn’t seem to be any smoke there at all.

Habesha Gooner

I am confident we will get Aouar. I am hoping for Partey news. Does that make me greedy? My greed is to see Arsenal playing champions league football again. Those two are getting us there, no matter who signs for our rivals. We would become a complete team.

Very Cholo to play Partey regardless, he’s got a title to win. Needs to find net soon.

No your not being greedy.

It’s quite evident Arsenal need a dominant player in central midfield as well as the more offensive on in Aouar.

WengerEagle

Sal

Yeah wasn’t mad on Sangare myself but 8 million does seem to be a bit of a bargain given his potential and physical attributes.

I don’t know, window closes Monday night. If there was any seriousness in talks you’d think that he wouldn’t be playing up in Huesca the Wednesday before,

salparadisenyc

Crumbs.

Costa on for Suarez.

Captain Tierney

Its maddening when smart people who do realise that we are creating very low amount of chances say that Laca is a weak link or not good enough. Sure he is not Auba but if you create a good (even average no. of chances of teams in the PL) he’ll score more goals.

And one sitter missed against the champions isn’t a valid argument. He’s been our best big game player since the day he walked in.

Marko

WE Atletico have always said that they wanted to keep him and the release clause was the only way to get him so they probably feel like they don’t need to wrap him in wool. Not too dissimilar to Lyon playing Aouar for 90 mins last week. But yeah I’m not confident on Partey now purely because we’re not the type of club to work on two players at the same time we’re a bit dopey and we’ll probably think getting in Aouar will be enough to placate the fanbase/manager etc etc. Which is a shame because I think we’re… Read more »

Laca’s been closer to a 1 in 3 striker for us than a 1 in 2. He’s scored 51 goals in 130 apps. 0.39 goals per game. Whereas Aubameyang has scored 72 goals in just 113 apps. Which is a goal every 0.64 games, pretty much a 2 goals every 3 games rate. It’s clear that Aubameyang is the much better goalscorer and he should be the one playing down the middle. Lacazette is definitely useful and a very good CF but Auba is a level above and we’d be better with a proper wideman to accommodate Auba through the… Read more »

I rate Felix as Eagle said its shame he’s playing in shadows of Atletico anti – style. Suarez will definitely up the game and help a bit, but if he progresses like it looks he will the elite will come on a rescue mission. With club not really taking a hit on purchase.

I was tooting Gasperini’s horn on here over 2 years ago before we even got in Emery. He’s done a spectacular job at Atalanta, took them over when they were perennial relegation/lower table battlers and has taken them to CL football and even outside title contenders in the space of a few seasons, all without sending any real money. Far from an Ozil fan but from 2013-2016/17 he was good.

Not too dissimiliar to Wenger’s time here, first half and second half are polar opposites in that he’s been as helpful as a genital wart since he signed that contract extension and is bleeding us dry.
