NLD has extra spice this week

Great result in the Ashes.

Incredible result in Spurs home game against the unstoppable machine that is Steve Bruce’s Newcastle.

The mighty Geordies stole the game 0-1 after a lovely finish from Joelinton, a striker not really known for goals.

Poch hasn’t won an away game since Jan, he’s only won 4 games in his last 15, and he is looking extremely arsey in his prezzers.

You could almost feel for him. Emery is out here praying that we sell Mustafi and Elneny, Poch might yet lose Jan Vertonghen, Toby Aldeweirald and Christian Eriksen.

If those three go, they are in desperate trouble this season. It’s like Spurs are finally paying the price for a criminally low wage bill. Those three leave and it’ll be a huge blow for morale, technical capability, experience levels and their chances of top 4.

Add to that the rumour that Spurs were 10k short for the Newcastle game and they had to literally give tickets away to pump their numbers (unverified).

Hate to see it, honestly.

In Arsenal news, poor old Unai is taking a hammering from all corners after his tactical disaster-class against Liverpool. Not really my bag to talk tactics, but I kind of feel he was fucked whichever route he took.

Why would he start Lacazette… who has a horrendous record away from home? Why would there be a consideration for Mesut Ozil? The guy is an absolute wimp. What was he supposed to do about the full-back situation?

My main critique would be how tepid we were. We’re not fierce in these games. Emery isn’t decisive when things go wrong. He’s also very uncreative when it comes to fixing problems as they happen.

I think he’s scared. He knows that this year he has to improve. He knows there are a whole bunch of underlying statistics he’s going to have to attack. I’d imagine that is going to impact his starting 11s this season.

Remember, he’s used to getting by with experienced journeymen. That’s why you’re more likely to see Xhaka start than someone younger. Kids make mistakes. It’s too risky. Even his big kids make mistakes. David Luiz has made 3 massive errors in 2 games. Not good enough.

… but it’s interesting, big mistakes seem to be a theme whoever plays.

How do you coach concentration into players? How do you make the team stronger defensively? How do you improve the attacking output?

There’s a lot to work on, but it’s hard to judge him after losing to one of the most brutal outfits in the game.

Let’s see what happens against Spurs.

Newcastle are a shower of shit, but they managed to roll the European cup finalists. Emery isn’t going to be able to hide behind excuses forever. We have a very, very good squad of players to pick from. If teams are better than us, surely the purpose of a coach is that he finds a way?

If Emery takes Spurs down by 3 goals this weekend, everyone will rejoice that he has more sauce than the Costco condiments aisle. I won’t, but you know, I see what’s coming with absolute clarity.

Might have a little bit of goss for you tomorrow, tune in or be damned to an eternity of fire and Sam Allardyce.

You’ve become a master at saying a lot without saying anything and running roughshod over the little you have said in the past.

Little you do surprises me anymore.

“I’d expect Marko to rally around a notion like that, bit surprised you’d go there.“

That’d be a zinger tower burger, hold the fries.

Receding Hairline

Is Pedro suggesting we are going to dismantle the squad when the garbage manager fails and bring in different players when special sauce arrives?? I don’t understand what the argument is honestly.

Cesc Appeal

RH Marko Gazidis is great…oh no he’s a c**t. Sanllehi is a journeyman…oh no he’s ‘sauce’. Emery will get Sanllehi to buy 30 year old journeymen players…oh no that didn’t work out. Sanllehi and Emery will consolidate their position and look to hire yes men and bring in bring acquisition…oh no. Emery is the enemy of the youth…oh dear. I mean just this system in an effort to avoid giving Emery any type of praise it was Sanllehi and Edu who were ‘sauce’ and super impressive for building a vision of the future, buying young players, promoting Ljungberg, insisting on… Read more »

‘Now you’re arguing that Edu isn’t buying with Emery’s style in consideration.’ Well, Sanllehi. Not arguing it’s without consideration, arguing that is not the drive. The drive is basic squad composition and long view. Emery is a voice but that is it. The club has it’s own view about what this team should be…wasn’t that what you were saying saucey McSauceFace Edu was here for in the summer? I lose track of the things you say and then go back on. CA is correct though Pedro…. What system wouldn’t Pepe or Tierney fit into exactly? For me… not sure what Manager wouldn’t say… Top class winger, Top class fullback… Technical midfielder who can trackback…. and 2 top prospects in Martinelli and Saliba for next season. and be like nah… don’t fit my style. Don’t think Emery’s philosophy was top of the mind in any of those choices.. but clearly I’m sure he wanted all of them as we had weaknesses there. “I’m arguing Emery will largely be irrelevant over the next decade outside of a safe pair of hands during a major transition period”

If Emery doesn’t deliver top 4 this season we could’ve literally appointed Sol Campbell and been in no worse a state as a club.

You continue to massively low-ball the significance of Emery’s input, which is a hell of a sight given the fuss and vigour you’ve had for getting shot of Wenger.

Cesc Appeal

MidWest Exactly. I think we’re another window away from a side that a manager can look at and think with 1 or 2 of his own buys it could really be something. When Wenger left, GK situation needed addressing, only one full back at the club, CB situation needed addressing, no CDM, no CAMs, no wingers, overloaded in ST though. That isn’t a question of buying to suit a style, it’s buying to address fundamental flaws that stop ANY manager from implementing ANY system. When Emery leaves in a year or two the squad left behind will be fit for… Read more »

Jamie

What is interesting about Ramsey is does he fit in with Sarri’s ideas about what a midfielder should be?

I wonder how Ramsey felt when Sarri was announced as manager?

Gentlebris

A club doesn’t make purchases without factoring in the demands of the coach. Raul and Edu are eager to succeed this year and CL is the least they can aim for, which means the most important thing is to make it work with Emery right now, which means Emery must have had a big input on ins and outs. And who told you Emery wanted Kos and Monreal to stay? A coach says things to the camera and give all sorts of impression to make things work in the market. You don’t seriously think Raul would be selling players Emery… Read more »

For all the domination and Unai’s suicidal tactics of ceding the flanks to their world class full backs, Liverpool did nothing with that space. Liverpool made about 500+ crosses and didn’t create a decent chance with any of them. They has 5 shots on target to our 3. Up until their goal, they had only one shot on target, Mane’s attempt from Ceballos’ assist. We effectively nullified Liverpool’s attack to long shots & hopeful crosses, which we blocked for fun. Here are their 5 shots on target 1. Mane’s attempt from Ceballos’ mispass. 2. Goal from corner. 3. Salah’s penalty.… Read more »

As for your little snide remark Pedro I usually stay away from having any sort of discuss with you , one in your head you are never wrong and most importantly you don’t have much of a thick skin and have been aching to ban me for a while now. So carry on arguing whatever it is you are arguing.

Mid I’m not taking transfers, I’m referencing this sort of pushback against any criticism of him because ‘he’s a safe pair of hands in a transitional period’. That’s just waffle as I see it, and it’s every bit as paper thin as anything getting levelled against Pedro’s pov on the matter. As I say, if we don’t make top 4 someone explain Emery’s particular impact on the club in his 2-year period assuming transfers et al are not his doing? On transfers…. CA – Juve is so stacked in midfield. Ramsey really needs to stay fit, which has always been a tall order. It’s not like his time at Arsenal where he’d walk straight back into the starting 11 after months out because he’d be displacing players like Coq and Flamini round 2. Surely he would’ve preferred to play under Allegri? Guaranteed Serie A and a decent run in the CL? They easily have the best squad in Italy, so Sarri will probably walk the league too.. Pierre

“On transfers…. I find it almost impossible to believe Emery hasn’t had a say in the sort of player we’ve recruited.”

The way I read it is , if the signing fails , as per the Suarez signing, then Emery had nothing to with it .

However, if the signing is a success as it appeared Ceballos would be before we played liverpool, then of course Emery was instrumental in bringing him to the club.

Receding Hairline

Pierre no one here has ever said the loan signing of Suarez was not Emery’s idea. Loan signing.. Short term. A shot in the dark.

Guen, Pepe, Torriera, Tierney, Saliba… Long term signings, will outlast the coach.

Well if it was Emery who was instrumental in getting them here.. then they don’t trust him much for the future regardless because both were loans with no option to buy and in Suarez case sent packing. Pep barely finished top 4 in his first season with an infinitely better squad. Klopp took Pool to 8th despite taking over in October. No matter who we signed we weren’t doing much better than last season. CA – Given his injury record, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s moved on in 2 years. His wages will be a huge problem though, just like with every player earning more than £300k a week. I guess if Sarri sticks to his 4-3-3 with a deep-lying playmaker, Ramsey will play on the right of the midfield 3 (like the article said)? Midwest some are actual in turmoil. We do well the manager gets credit and for some that’s unacceptable. We do badly they gladly tell everyone I told you so.

I trust Raul and co to take stock of where we are come season end and make the right decisions, I had my doubts about him but he has won me over, if they feel Emery doesn’t match their project I’m very sure he won’t last another year.

It will actually be fum reading the usual suspects “militantly” defend the next appointment if they happen to fancy him.

Emery is a manager I have followed for long, he is quite easy to workout which is why many consider him bland. He is a competent manager, no frills or sauce. We have to beat Spurs this weekend. I understand not getting anything from Anfield but I will be very disappointed if we get nothing from a home game against Spurs…actually I will be disappointed if we get less than 3 points.

They will up their game for us, of course, but they have issues and have been far from convincing.

Emery is a top coach. He’ll take us into CL this season unless we have a major meltdown(which actually happened last season). Can he make us contenders for PL/CL though? Not sure yet, we will know by the end of the season.

errrm you left out a full stop up there, and your man had two tough years not “tough two years”. 😂

Akilan Emery is not winning a league title in a league that has PEPs City and Klopps Pool, I don’t need season end to tell you that.

Cesc Appeal

We absolutely should be winning. We should approach this game with no fear at all and look to impose ourselves on them.

Really the only thing that worries me with them is Son against our ‘full backs’ and then set pieces.

Akilan

Actually, Spurs haven’t put up a decent performance in any of their 3 league games.

Villa should’ve scored another and they only leveled via a long range strike from Ndombele. Then the momentum took them over.

They got hammered by City but somehow took a draw. Ederson shite positioning on a weak Lamela strike and Lucas Moura scoring from a corner(LOL).

They got deservedly beaten at home by Newcastle of all clubs.

Also there’s something brewing behind the scenes. Whatever it is, hope it stays that way until Sunday. Would love another 4-2.

Mr Serge

Unless emery delivers the unbelievable he needs to go at the end of the season. The club have an option to let him go without penalty at the end of the season.
I believe this will happen even if he does get CL footy

Marko

Arguing that we hired a technical director that’d build a squad in a pivotal season without considering how the manager plays is quite the stretch.I’d expect Marko to rally around a notion like that, bit surprised you’d go there.

Oh shit fuck me for thinking that we were thinking long term wise am I right. Absurd really

Mr Serge

I will be at the game on Saturday can’t wait I will be in a foul mood for a week if we don’t get all 3 points convincingly

Champagne charlie

Mr Serge

Chika why are you being a grammar nazi ?

Cesc Appeal

I agree.

They will obviously up their level for the NLD but we should be beating them.

I’m curious to see if Pochettino throws his new signings in because otherwise a midfield with Winks and Sissoko in it is not exactly solid. Son, Kane, Moura is still a good front line and that is enough to give our full backs trouble, but I think he might leave Moura on the bench and add an extra CM or CB.

Marko

If Emery doesn’t deliver top 4 this season we could’ve literally appointed Sol Campbell and been in no worse a state as a club.

This whole discussion on Emery is weird and a little absurd. Stan/Josh and the club is doing all the right things. They’ve invested heavily and intelligently in the squad, such that it is now inarguably a top 4 squad, even if a little light on defence, after successfully quashing Emery’s long and vicious campaign to bring in Banega and other assorted journeymen and has-beens. I don’t do along with the view that pool stopped playing when they went 3 up, they don’t do that. When they’re in control they don’t usually show any mercy. 5-1 last year, 4-0 year before that, they keep going. We at least showed a bit of fight in the second half, albeit a bit late.
