Before we begin, may I introduce you to some fine words from the Spurs manager.
“Tottenham, no history of winning,”
“Our glory, I watch the video about the glory, it’s with (Bill) Nicholson. It’s black and white and I watch it nearly every week. To create again that feeling you need time. Four years, five years, that’s nothing in the history of the club.”
“Again we’re going to have the debate whether a trophy will take the club to the next level. I don’t agree with it. It only builds your ego. The most important thing for Tottenham right now is to always be in the top four.”
Mainline this meltdown right into my veins. Beautiful.
Welcome to a BIG week. Cardiff, followed by Manchester City. A fairly straight forward game followed by OH SHIT THERE’S A BEE TRAPPED UNDER MY SHIRT kind of game against the best team in the country.
Let’s start with the news. I’ll give it to you agenda-free.
Aaron Ramsey wrote a tweet saying there’s a big week ahead.
WHAT DOES HE MEAN?
Well, he could mean he’s packing his bags early and heading to Juventus.
Or, he could just be excited about going back to Cardiff, followed up by City at home.
Tough to know what to make of it if we ship him off. If Champions League football is worth £40m and we only land £10m for him, it’s a pointless exercise because we’re stronger with a fit player who knows the league. I very much doubt we’ll replace him with a loan player that has anywhere near the quality he does, but who knows.
Next up. Sokratis. Out until the end of February.
What a bloody nightmare.
The good news is Kos didn’t break his jaw, just bruising and swelling. I don’t know what that means, but I assume they’d say if he were concussed. 2 weeks?
The really bad news is we’re heading into Sunday with hopes and dreams wrapped up in Mustafi, which is a bit like playing Russian Roulette with 5 chambers filled. There is no leadership in our defence whatsoever. A real concern.
Arsenal are going LOANS CRAZY.
I was told that even though we’re being linked heavily with a lot of loan players, it’s still unlikely we’re going to be able to do much. For the second time in a week, it appears we’re dealing with a CEO who doesn’t want to give us an option on whether we buy a player. Ivan Perisic wants to leave, Inter acknowledge this, but they want us to buy.
“Perisic? We must accept the situation that some players show a willingness to be transferred. The player has expressed this desire, we want to satisfy him but we also need to respect the value of the player. Nothing concrete has arrived yet, we’ll wait to see in the coming days,’
… £35m for a 29 year is fucking bat shit crazy and payday loans levels of short-term thinking.
To sweeten the deal, Arsenal are apparently offering to ship Ozil off and pay half of his salary. Which again makes my eyes bleed, because Moratta is a very shrewd operator and not into wasting money.
This time last year we swapped Alexis for Mikhi. It’s like we never learn. If a fair chunk of the fanbase are excusing Emery’s first 8 months because new players have been bedding in, are we confident that someone from Serie A who is failing will hit the ground running in the most physical league in the world? I wonder if we’d be better of giving chance to someone young like Smith-Rowe or Saka.
If I were to be positive about all this. Perisic is a capable operator based on what we’ve seen of him in the World Cup. He has a tremendous work ethic and he can give us much-needed quality from wide positions if he finds form. His stats might look dreary, but you don’t know what the deal is at Inter. He might hate it. I’ve read that he’s a tricky customer to deal with, and inconsistent, but it would appear we’re very much in the ‘anybody will do’ territory which feels reckless.
To make matters weirder, Inter are trying to run a swap deal for Carrasco. Someone who comes with baggage, but is younger, with a higher ceiling.
“Carrasco-Candreva swap? It’s normal that there are contacts, Ausilio is doing a great job but we must wait for things to become concrete,”
Moratta also loaned Cedric Soares, the right back from Southampton. The guy knows how to sniff out deals.
LOTS TO DISCUSS.
See you in the comments. xx
Again. If ranieri can take that Leicester side to the title then why can’t emery get this team to fourth?
This whole Leicester thing has been talked to death, a once in a lifetime occurrence should not be used to set any standards. Pochettino is still lauded on here as a manager with special sauce but he was also in this league managing when Leicester won the title
Pedro have you ever deleted any of Charlie George’s posts??

I will stick with my lemming like analogy.
You are an easily pleased fella.
Good for you..
CG,
Sven signed those players, Pedro has stated as such as have other people who have said as much since the announcement of his departure.
The Ramsey contract was pulled because it doesn’t offer value for money on a player who spends more time injured than on the pitch.
AMN and Iwobi have featured a lot this season as too have PEA and Lacazette, your transparent and quite frankly pathetic attempts to deflect your own issues on to me in a Freudian transfer manner are absolutely laughable.

Pedro is encouraging these bizzaros because they help to bolster a case he’s making albeit clumsily.

Receding. Yes he was. With a limited side. But he’s taken that limited side with limited funds to 2nd and nearly won the title only to choke. So why can’t emery hit 4th with a superior club? Superior funds and superior pull? I’m saying it’s not unreasonable to expect 4th spot this season based on the relevant variables. OGS is not a ‘rookie coach with sulky players’
He’s been managing Molde since 2012 and had that stint with Cardiff city in 2014-2015, relegating from the premiership. They fired him because he was stinking up the place in the championship as well.
He’s had the opportunity to learn from his mistakes. That’s why it’s good to actually step into the dug out as head coach, not as an alter boy serving the pope.
Pedro is encouraging these bizzaros because they help to bolster a case he’s making albeit clumsily.

This isn’t me advocating for his signing or nothing like that but I saw a graph on sky about Perisic compared to the players we have and he had a 84% pass completion which was the joint highest with Bellerin. He had more dribbles than anyone in our squad averaged 9 crosses per game. Basically any way you look at it he’s an upgrade on what we’ve got. A 6 month loan and then we can choose to take him or ditch him in this particular month isn’t bad. I’d still prefer Malcom this month though and I’d still prefer… Read more »

All those (like Pedro) who want to see the back of Emery should take comfort from his latest statement. It’s very hard to find a second wind after the initial adrenaline burst of the introduction. That’s why young managers get found out, they don’t know what to do in crises because they haven’t been there before. I recall Monk at Swansea looking good initially until the second season.
That’s my fear of us bringing in this new toys like Arteta. You can’t replicate real experience and I’m not sure working with Guardiola really inspires resilience and adaptiveness in a young manager.

Pilots use flight stimulators to train for certain scenarios. They learn by repetition through a computer that can generate real life experiences.

but the DEFENCE needs sorting and from emery message he doesn’t want to add anymore in expense for his current squad
Dissenter
Regarding Emery’s recent statement, I agree.
At least he’s come clean about the fact he’s been given no money this January.
I like the fact he’s given a strong message to the BOD or whatever you’d call the current arsenal management structure, concerning investment.
Despite the platitudes on project youth 2.0 and ‘improving’ players he knows, as well as most arsenal fans, that the squad needs a major upgrade which will cost ‘mucho euros’.
How much he’ll be given is down to Stan.
“but the DEFENCE needs sorting and from emery message he doesn’t want to add anymore in expense for his current squad”
Probably can’t find any decent defenders that we can get on loan that would make a difference. I’m sure he would like a spanking new world class CB for example but that doesn’t seem likely until the summer and maybe not WC then either.
Either way, improving our attack and midfield would ease the pressure on our defense, especially our fullbacks won’t have to bomb forward constantly. Should help with stability as long as we don’t get even more injuries there.
