Spaniard lands, more to follow in ‘big week’

by .

Arsenal made their first starting 11 signing of the summer. Dani Cabellos has landed with us for a one-season loan stint. The Spanish technician doesn’t come with a right to buy, which is a shame, but be real people… we’d probably offer £52.50 a year over the next 40 years and try and sweeten it with a small goat with wheels for back legs.

Key message for me is that we finally did a deal.

Big Dave Ornstein reckons this is a going to be a significant week for the club, with Saliba also in the hopper.

There are rumours that Palace won’t budge for Zaha and Celtic are planning on holding onto Tierney because too much of the deal is tied to Champions League, something their people think might be out of our reach.

It’s a bit disappointing we’re doing so badly on the Tierney front, likely because they don’t want to feel like we marched them through the playground with no trousers on (the dream analogy) like Southampton did with VVD. Hopefully, there’s a fallback deal we can chase down.

Zaha seems different to me because he’s older and he needs to move now. Palace is technically in a position to play hardball (5 year deal), but at the same time, they desperately need to strengthen their backline, and as we’re seeing the world over… clubs don’t want to hold onto players that’ll shit-post at their club and sulk all season.

I don’t know Zaha, but he looks a big character, and the fact he’s their best player means they look to him for more than just football… when you sit in 12th place, only 10 points splits you from 16th. Any disruption can be critical to survival… and if they have to sell him when they’ve been relegated, they’ll not be getting £55m and Reiss Nelson.

Big clubs generally don’t fuck around with players that don’t want to be there, a unified culture is far too important.

Cesc, Nasri, Song, and RVP were all let go in the end because the cost of the keeping them wasn’t worth the aggro. PSG will bomb off Neymar. Ajax won’t keep any of their youth products against their will. Atleti said goodbye to AG.

In other news, one signing we can get behind is the MIGHTY Camden Hells being our beer partner moving forward. No more piss water people, proper beer, locally sourced and tasty. That’ll make being 1-0 down at halftime feel a smidgen better!

There are 17 days left before the transfer window shuts, and it’s hard to see how we’ll really have moved the squad forward. The biggest concern for me is that even if we bring in all the players this week, the talent won’t have had a full preseason with us, and if we have to pick players up from other countries, we need these folk to hit the ground running. Coming in from Spain or Scotland… well, let’s just say that’s a huge ask.

It’s also looking ever more likely that we’ll be rolling hard with all the players we want gone, unless there are some predators lurking in the shadows waiting with a seriously lowball bid to see how desperate we’ll be (please god say there are clubs waiting to pounce).

We’re already seeing that with Laurent K. He’s done his deal with the French clubs, regardless of what his agent says… the financials are clearly geared around a low fee.

If you think Mustafi and a few of the others aren’t thinking the same thing, you are NAIVE. Or less conspiratorial than I am. The last week could be very Harry Redknapp, because that’s the way to supposed contacts method of scouting works.

I did think it was amusing in the comments section the other day when people were arguing that contacts scouting is good because, you know, you have to make contact to buy. To those who think that way, let’s be real here, if this is what contacts scouting looks like, it’s pretty fucking dire. No system in the world should wait for agents to offer players. We should be proactive, we should attack our targets and we should have sufficient data knowledge that we’re doing it before other clubs (ala, Dortmund).

Let’s hope Edu nips that nonsense in the bud and guns for the smartest approach to finding new talent.

Finally, I wanted to write this because there’s just too much wokeness going on about Rapinoe and that Bellerin picture.

Facts of life, there are cunts on the internet. You can’t put a picture of a disabled kid on the internet without some lowlife making depraved comments. People are cunts, unfortunately, the internet grows them like mushrooms. We’re not changing that.

However, this Rapinoe furore is so beyond the pale and the ‘why’ around it is such nonsense.

She’s one of the best female footballers in the world. She said she’d do something epic. She delivered on it. She is supremely arrogant. That is her schtick.

‘Men don’t like her because they can’t fuck her and they are threatened’

Why do we have to lower the argument to this because it’s a woman?

Maybe Rapinoe is a fucking PR genius playing the game like an absolute pro? Can we not salute her game? Can we not give a woman credit for doing a damn fine job raising her profile?

We do when it’s a man. Kap, McGregor, Ali, Ibra… the greatest, Floyd Mayweather. In fact, Floyd accused Connor of stealing a black man’s game by shit-talking so the haters would pay to see him lose.

That’s Rapinoe. Fair play to her. This isn’t to do with sex. Toxic masculinity. Some other woke trope.

This is to do with an arrogant sporting talent actually delivering. Can’t we just let a woman have that? Isn’t making her out to be a victim over a protagonist worse? I think so. She’s got game, she knows how to work a crowd and she’s raising the profile of the women’s game like no other. She’ll be rolling in cash this season. Women’s football will feel her halo effect. More clubs will get sponsors. More fans will go to see her. Everyone wins because @JoeMushroomPants wants to talk shit and keep the conversation going.

I applaud the player for having game. Great work.

Right, that’s me done. x

So Cebi aka Ceballos is a guaranteed first team starter.

Ramsey “replacement”

Will show in games, more busy than the slouths Ozil and Mhiki.

Cons against him are doubts about his end product at times. If he gets these run of games though and settles in and enjoys his football at Arsenal this aspect can inprove as his overall profile as a player is very decent.

Cebi.

Not sure how this is being billed as a big week, we are signing somebody that won’t be any use to us for over calendar year and another on loan with no option to buy. There’s still far too much to be done, and so little time to do it. Well played Arsenal.

Leftsidesanch

Believe or not also, the squad is actually weaker than at this point last year. Yet Unai asks for patience? Get lost with patience.

Yay Willock will see limited first team play now that Cebi arrives and tbh Cebi is a level above Willock . A late loan may be best for him now.

Unfortunately we will see more of Ozil and Mhiki the flagrant wage stealer will continue to be bench player.

One good thing about Cebi is that he won’t go missing in the tougher matches like Ozil does. Not saying he will have blinders of course but he won’t be a passenger like Ozil has been.

Can someone please say something about the Brazilian Everton’s deal? Arsenal shouldn’t toy with our feelings on this one, the dude looks a future asset and no-one wants to talk about him.

I really do not see how Unai is going to be alive by November and what’s sad is that is not entirely going to be his fault.

About Rapinoe, I smile because its a man’s world, and while female football is on the rise, it’s a mere distraction until the football season starts. Messi & CR7 will be fading in a few seasons, new legends are waiting to shine on the big stage. August needs to happen soon. If we aren’t getting Zaha, why don’t we get Fraser and strengthen at CB. Strong midfield and strong defense is a perfect recipe for stability. Midfield is sorted with Ceballos arriving, there’s Torreira, Guendouzi,Chambers and Willock without adding Xhaka. 6 possible CM’s and if we add a CB &… Read more »

I think we’d be better off moving on from Zaha. Playing hardball with Palace is all well and good but if we don’t get it done an important piece of what we need to do won’t get done.

At the same time Palace are playing a dangerous game. As Pedro mentions the gap from them to relegation was 15 points. When Hazard downed tools it took Chelsea from Champions to 5th.

I don’t think Real let good players go. Draw your own conclusions. This chump has Sanchez written all over him.

Having a midfield 3 of Xhaka, Torreria, Dani Ceballos is likely to be better for both sides of our play than anything we saw last year. There’s no option to buy but apparently in conversations between Sanllehi and Perez there was an agreement that Arsenal could negotiate to buy next year. Guess that will depend on the situation at Madrid (did they get Pogba and/or others?) and also how much they want for him if he does really well at Arsenal. We must land a winger and a LB this week. Yes, but a genuine ‘big’ club with ambition keeps the players it wants to keep and if it’s hemorrhaging those players and the manager is the issue, it replaces that manager.

In his time here Emery has played 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-2-2, 4-1-2-1-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-2-1, 3-4-3 etc.

Part of the problem was the total imbalance of the squad means there is not a system you can play.

What system would you play with no full backs, no wingers and no pressing ability in the midfield?

Cesc Appeal

Marc

Agreed.

But like I said above I think a large part is the cash up front issue. We likely have a plan for how we can potentially secure our targets but if teams wants more cash up front out of our frankly ludicrous budget then that means we lose the ability to sign someone else without sales.

This is why for me Kroenke should have put his hand in his pocket, not giving us masses, but enough so that our plans aren’t f****d if we end up giving £2-3 Million more cash up front for a player.

alexanderhenry

Cesc appeal

Exactly right.

If you have a look at the transfer negotiations we’re currently involed with, they all involve ad ons , loans, installments and in Tierney’s case full payment is dependent on CL qualification.

Arsenal fucking around. Plus ca change.

Cesc Appeal

Alexanderhenry Yeah. The issue for us though, I personally believe, is how much of the total fee we have to give this summer. With Celtic they want £25 Million guaranteed over the course of the payment plan (which I would just give them) but the other sticking point is how much of that £25 Million they want this summer. I’ve read that it’s the ‘majority’ they want. Just putting in £30-40 Million (which sadly almost doubles out budget) would alleviate our problems. Allows us to give Celtic what they want, give Palace (or Gremio) what they want and likely still go out and sign a great CB as we’d have the 2019 payment necessary out of the whole agreed fee.

Is the CB problem at Arsenal sorted? will it be Sokratis, Mavro, Holding, Chambers? is that what we will dance with all season?

if not, why no names popping at all?

This Tierney deal really starting to pee me off now. Can’t we just get decent left back ffs

Have to say I’d be very happy to see willock, Saka and Martinelli given more of a look in the league in the closing 20 mins at first. I really think they could shake up defences. Every time I watch Saka and Willock I’m taken aback at how fearless they are and what an impact they make against very good sides.
Martinelli I’ve only seen a bit of but his pace is frightening.

RH You say we have no wingers and we need full backs .. In the 3 Windows so far , how many wingers and full backs have we bought ….none. We are apparently trying to buy a winger and a left back and surprise surprise , we can’t afford them…which is exactly my point . Saka has bags of ability , great technique, knows how to beat a player, vision , cool in front of goal and good final ball ….if we can’t afford Zaha then sell iwobi or Mhkitaryan and bring Saka into the squad ……Saka, Willock and Nketiah… Read more »

I would prefer us to have had an option to buy in the loan deal, but not a mandatory one. That way if Cabellos worked out we could have signed him for a sensible figure, not an inflated one. But whatever. What’s I’m hopeful of though is that having him come in to the team and be able to play as a #10 means that perhaps we’ll loan Ozil out. If we can’t sell him or pay him off, then at least get him out on loan and have a Turkish club subsidise £100-150k a week of his wages so… Read more »

“Saka, Willock and Nketiah are ready to make the step up .”

Step up to what exactly?? Where do you think Arsenal will finish with all these untested players in the starting eleven? Most of you seem to be under the illusion the past few season is the lowest we can fall…..that is false. We can easily be overtaken by certain squads below us.

With all this talk of youth at Chelsea, when the season proper starts very few of them will actually be in and around the first team squad. Nketiah is stepping up to replace who?? Lacazette??

At it again
Read what I wrote. I said last 20 mins closing games or start them in cup games

Would you rather iwobi, Mkhitaryan and Ozil non stop, week in week out, full 90?? We saw how that worked out last year didn’t we? Not exactly setting the world alight in the transfer market. How many option do you think we have??
