The world did NOT end.

by .

Good ebening.

My granddad fought at the MSG in the forties in his first ever TV fight. He was knocked out. BY THE CANVASS. So last night, I revisited a piece of family history by attending the AJ fight. He was knocked out by a very fat man. What a joke. If the Champions League final is ever held there, I will NOT attend.

Did it ruin my day? Absolutely not. What a fucking MAGICAL Saturday people. A totally shit game. Perfectly executed by Klopp.

He has absolutely shamed our club. He has destroyed the notion that success cannot be achieved the right way. He has embarrassed the fans that stood behind stagnation. He has shown the way forward that so many people said wasn’t possible in a world of oligarchs.

It’s a 5 year run for Arsenal to make that happen. We need the right manager. The right vision. Loads of energy. A clear out of the jokers. A move towards absolute accountability.

It probably won’t come with the current leadership, it’ll almost certainly get worse before the owners realise what they’ve done, but rest assured, we’ll bounce back when we start doing things properly.

Anyway.

Let’s focus on what matters. Spurs lost. Summer can begin.

I been to MSG only once and I enjoyed it, Big East basketball final Syracuse v Georgetown and was Alonzo Mourning final season of college. I think it was a Sunday and we were hungover but game was brilliant.

And I am delighted that Spuds lost yesterday, well deserved.

jwl

I think you giving Klopp too much credit Pedro. Klopp obviously top coach, I would be delighted if he come manage Arsenal, but a committee decides who to purchase each summer at Liverpool.

If I was owner of Arsenal I would implement committee system as well, it is wisdom of crowds working it’s magic, four or five smart people working together will produce better results than one smart person working by them self.

englandsbest

Yup, Spurs lost, best result of the year, the only bright spot we’ll remember.

Speaking of oligarchs and five-year plans, Arsenal is owned by the American version, a multi-billionaire. No sign of a plan though. If he has one, it’s probably buried somewhere deep in Delaware.

Did someone say on here that the intentional and unintentional handball is going to be definitely ditched next season. These rules that are made for the benefit of the attacking team go a bit too far. We are already seeing defenders standing with their hands behind their backs like waxwork dummies when defending because they are so petrified of the ball hitting their arm/hand. And as someone else said on here you will get players purposely looking to gain advantage by smashing the ball at the opposition in the penalty area looking for that arm/hand. These sort of rules just… Read more »

Those Spurs memes are embarrassing. Shows what a small club Arsenal have become.

A proper club wouldn’t worry so much about what a club like Spurs are doing/not doing. Pathetic to say the least.

Danny S

Spurs tanking in the final was such a relief and the summer does indeed start now that heavy, ominous cloud has moved on. For me, emery’s arsenal career starts now. My only disappointment with him last season was due to his own success. I never expected him to be so close to the top 4, and in the final of a Euro cup with this team of elite bottlers. I said right from the start that this season was all suck it and see. Stabilise the ship. Suss out the team. Emery has a style and an ethic, I just… Read more »

It’s not just Klopp that has pulled this off for Liverpool. They have barely put a foot wrong in the market, they have brought some cracking players and sold some average players high. He is part of a world

Danny, right there with you. It what we should be doing. We just don’t have much of it in place. What gets me is that Emery gets stick for not turning us into contenders overnight. Klopp & pocchetino gets five years. Klopp gets a war chest that only city can match, Emery gets the change from the back of the sofa. Klopp transferred In or introduced for there debut nine out of the first eleven yesterday. Emery has four of his own players in the first eleven. Definitely he needs a chance. I do remember people slating Klopp in his first seasons and pep even when he didn’t win the league first season.

How can Emery change this team with 2 windows! Most importantly, we haven’t gone backwards, like united post fergie.
I’d go as far as to say We have taken some baby steps forward. Very small but noticeable.

Jamie

Anyone got some tissues for Thomas so he can dry his tears?

Up 4 grabs now

I watched gary Neville and caragher fighting about emery awhile back on Monday night football.
And what Neville says is true.
It’s a three.year job to get us competing again.
First year assess the squad who can fit in with his way of playing. And clear out the deadwood.

Second year, qualify for champions league and maybe get a cup.

Third year competing for the title.

Let’s see how things go with more of emerys players, playing the way he wants them to play, and to see if he can get us to year three?

Champagne charlie

Up4

Third year competing for the title?

I’ll have what you’re having mate, gimme a couple in fact.

Up 4 grabs now

Danny the improvements are there.
It’s not massive and there’s a lot more needed.
The fact we got more points against the other top six sides is an improvement.
The increase in points and narrowly missing out on third by two points is an improvement.
It’s baby steps while were in transition, but as you say a least it’s not like utd.

Marc

“A proper club wouldn’t worry so much about what a club like Spurs are doing/not doing”

Then why have the Spud’s declared the capacity at their new stadium to be higher than the Emirates when this capacity can only be met for American football?

Up 4 grabs now

Cc,

That’s Gary Neville opinion.

But he has a point if we’re not competing by year three.
Then Emery has failed and should go.
I’m not saying year three we should be winning it, but at least we should be in the race like spurs were for awhile earlier in the season until there collapse!
(Not that they had much chance of winning it)

Danny S

I think year 3 competing for title is a bit much, unless we get a new owner.

I think competing for title is a 5 year plan, with some true elite transfer activity.

bennydevito

Awww didums, poor little Thomas the not so secret Spurs fan.

Off you fuck.

Danny S

I do expect these exact conversations were happening on Liverpool blogs after Klopps first year though. Ha

Bob N16

They’re our local rivals, of course we enjoy the piss-taking. If you don’t see the funny side of a Spurs defeat in a CL final ( no less) you’re either not an Arsenal fan or your life is too fu*king serious!

Marko

Klopp took 4 years to compete for the title and that was only after a summer of spending over 160 million on 3 players and 6 months after spending 75 million on a CB. No way we’re challenging inside three seasons

Champagne charlie

Up4 I like Gary Neville, but he’s got a very soft stance on managers 99% of the time most likely down to his Valencia stint. I totally advocate setting the vision and goal of Title challenge in X amount etc etc, but our current setup, and with Emery at head coach aren’t achieving that aim for me. There should be improvement with longer exposure when it comes to management, and we simply haven’t seen that. Our worst period of the season was the last 6 weeks, where we should be seeing more of the fruits of Emery’s work than the… Read more »

Why would the players give up under under a new manager in his first season, with 6 games to go to meet an objective?

That would say a lot about Emery, as much as the players, wouldn’t it?

TheLegendaryDB10

Danny S I correct you. Thomas is a Chav. Up 4 grabs now What Pedders is trying to say is that pool of piss have made their own money allowing them to make these expensive purchases. They are a well drilled outfit geared towards winning and the people within are working towards that same aim. Cesc Appeal

Marko It would be great if he could put a serious dent in our CM and CAM issues, seems to be a tenacious player by all accounts and one of those all round midfield players which is quite something at 20 years old. Danny S

CC Many factors were to blame. Player mentality for starts. We lack any true leaders on and off pitch. Emery is at fault also as he gambled everything in the Euro cup. I think he massively over estimated or over trusted his players. Injuries. Ramsey was a big miss, as has been bellerin. Emery has done the best he can this season with the current crop. Just watch a replay of the CL final and EL final. I want the Pools defensive coordinator. They played a 4 3 defense with the 3 midfielders forming a defensive line protecting the back four. SPUDs couldn’t break through and generate clear cut chances. Arsenal played 3 CBs and two midfielders. The position of the two midfielders were all over the place. In the 2nd half, Torr was finished and was subbed out. There were so many holes in the defense. Hazard could take the ball and ran through the whole defense. We should replace this defensive coordinator.

Nelson

That is food for thought. The Pools didn’t play any box to box midfielder. But they have two super wingers. Maybe our priority should not be replacing Ramsey but sign a CB, a DM and a winger.

Cesc Appeal

Would people accept a relatively low spend in the more attacking departments, for example Palacios, Martinelli and Claude Maurice if it meant significant investment in defence?

Liverpool have some good youngster also out on loan across different countries. I for one like the look of Harry Wilson that’s on loan at Derby.

For me UE needs to improve to 2 metrics next season. 1. A 20% reductions in goals conceded so 40 or below 2. A 10% increase in points accumulated. Valentin

@Ishola, That has nothing to do with Wenger, those are tactical choices made by Emery. Having 2 central midfielders against 3 gives to the opposition control of the midfield. From then the defense will always be on the back foot. Three at the back requires wingback that are superior athletes and good crossers. none of our players have those characteristics. The result is they end up pushed back to a Back 5 or get caught high up the field. The final shows exactly ho badly that system can go against a well drilled 4-3-3. The personnel argument does not wash,… Read more »

I’d rather give him the bullet right now and give someone else the reins and the funds but we are where we are. It’s senseless not signing anyone promising just because half the fan base isn’t convinced emery is going to do anything other than tank hard.

The Arsene FC that hadn’t played consistently good eye-catching football for at least the last five years of Wenger’s reign.

I know that it is frown upon to talk bad of the dead, but it seems that there is a lot of revisionism regarding Reyes.
To me Reyes was technically brilliant, but he never had the intelligence nor the mentality to make the most of his natural talent.

Why hiring Arteta could be a failure.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/03/louis-van-gaal-manchester-united–interview-buy-players-rooney-tactics-solskjaer

Excerpts.

Were you surprised that Solskjær was given the job permanently?

I was very surprised he got it in spite of the winning run at the start.

Why?

Because Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world that needs a manager with experience and not a manager who has trained at one or two teams and on a lower level.

Managing a top level team demands top level experience.

Freddie Ljungberg

He was actually doing 147mph, 70mph over the speed limit, one of his younger cousins was killed another is in hospital with severe injuries, treating him like a hero because he played football just feels wrong.

Valentin

He may have been a good player, but he was also an irresponsible idiot who killed his 23 years old cousin and left another person badly burned fighting for their life while driving illegally at 120mph overspending by more than 50mph.

If instead of killing himself, he had killed a couple of innocent bystanders, maybe he would not be viewed in the same light. The footballer Lee Hughes had accident when driving like a madman and killed a family. He was sent to jail. Had Reyes survived, it is likely that Reyes would have also ended up in jail.

Cesc Appeal

Interesting that United are rumoured to be offering Rabiot £170 000 a week.

He may be demanding £280 000 a week but it seems as if he’s going to have to settle for much less because those demands have chased off a lot of big clubs.

A £5-10 Million signing on fee and £170 000 – £200 000 a week and I would at least try for him.
