CONTE HAS MELTDOWN (ANOTHER), WILL ARSENAL CAPITALISE?

by .

OH MY WORD AM I HAVING A NICE TIME.

I’m on a flight back to London, I escaped the snowstorm by a matter of hours which means I can go to my brothers wedding, and what other gift did life bestow on me?

SPURS LOST TO BURNLEY 1-0.

What’s that you say, Ben Mee nipping in front of Romero for the winner?

Spurs LEGEND Harry Kane not showing up when the Super Sunday cameras are elsewhere?

2 shots on target all game?

Couldn’t have happened to a bigger winner than Antonio Conte. He went on a spectacular rant where he absolved himself of blame and basically landed on the idea that Spursy is real and that’s just the way of life.

We are doing everything to change situation but it’s not enough. Four defeats out of five is not good enough. This doesn’t happen to me. Tottenham called me to change things but I’m too honest.

He’s now lost 4 games in 5. Can you IMAGINE? So many people told me he was going to be the real deal for Spurs?

His post-match presser was simply delicious. Like leftover Christmas turkey, I just went back for more and more.

‘THE PLAYERS ARE THE SAME, BUT THE RESULTS DON’T CHANGE’

Spurs broke Conte. Serial winner. Done inside 3 months.

You have got to love that sort of attitude from a manager that is paid £20m a year, 3 days ago he said the players he had were the best he’d ever worked with.

My fave line was, ‘I have to talk to the club’, before storming out.

Conte is behaving like a rich kid that’s been asked to clean nightclub toilets. He’s been living in la-la land for too long. He’s forgotten how to coach, the only solve for him is money, money, money or bounce if you don’t get the things you need.

The reality for Conte and his career is quite simple, he’s coaching there because everyone else knows what he’s about. United passed on him, because they knew the stories. Arsenal weren’t interested in him the last two times they could have hired him because they knew what he was like. Mega clubs don’t want to deal with his petulance, remember, this is a guy who crashed Chelsea a season after winning the title because the club wouldn’t let him decide transfers. He went to Inter, spent money they didn’t have, then when they had to balance the books, he ditched them. Proper clubs don’t want babies at the helm, which is why Daniel Levy has him there, because he is going out of his way to show that Poch was a fluke.

The true gift? Paratici. The Spurs Technical Director is dripping in scandal, couldn’ lure Gattuso (a manager fired by Firoentina for pushing for his Super Agent to decide transfers prices and names), then stumbled into Nuno who he binned for £10m inside 3 months, only to give the job to Conte who was a HUGE mismatch. Even better that he helped his old club Juve balance the books for Vlahovic with two questionable signings.

I am LOVING it.

… but I can’t love it too much. Because as funny as it has been to watch the biggest mismatch in Premier League history go to shit, we also have to pay heed to the Premier League table. We are 3 points ahead of them and we only have one game in hand. Even if we beat Wolves, it’s just 6 points between us. Hardly a mountain to climb with 13 games to go.

Spurs are in it. West Ham are in it. Wolves are in it. United are in it.

The positive for us is Antonio Conte has entered ‘reputation preservation’ mode. His pressers seem to indicate an experienced manager that knows more than we do. His behaviour doesn’t indicate he believes this squad can do what he needs them to do, worse, he doesn’t seem to have the willingness to try. It indicates a man ready to exit before he soils his ‘pristine’ reputation OR a man ready to throw his shitty players under the bus to get a bigger budget this summer. At this point, it really looks to me like he’s gagging to get fired. I’ve never seen such petulance considering he knew what he was taking on. It’s amusing though because this looks like it’s going to be another case of internet wisdom going down the shitter with Jadon, Ronaldo, Buendia, Brendan, Maddison, and Lukaku.

So what do we have going on today?

Well, it’s an absolutely huge 6 pointer. It’s a 6 pointer against Wolves who are just behind us in the league. It’s a 6 pointer against Spurs, because if we win our game, we go 6 points ahead of them.

For me, the pressure was the first Wolves game. This game is pressure but knowing there’s momentum in the system. The players have belief, they controlled Wolves last time. Now they have to do it again, with the full understanding a win this evening really would put them in good shape heading into a 2 week break.

I’m unsure how Arteta is going to line his team up. Emile Smith Rowe scored a great goal against Brentford and looked sharp. Will he get the nod again? Or will Martinelli walk back into the side after a 9 game run of really good form. Part of me is expecting something different, to keep Bruno Lage guessing, but part of me thinks the big break we have means Arteta will stick with what he knows. We are in quite a unique position of having a very fit squad of players to choose from.

Whatever happens, we need to see a strong start. Aggression, confidence, and bravery will play a big role. Wolves will feel confident after dispatching of Spurs and Leicester. Arsenal might have watched their weekend game and noticed the legginess and general openness of play we’ve not seen from Wolves a lot this season.

Simply put, we are better them if we bring our best game.

Can we do that again under huge pressure?

Time will tell.

Ok, that’s me tapping out, I’ll be there tonight, if you are, I hope you’ve packed your singing boots. Let’s make it rowdy.

Atkinson is a” homer” and a weak referee. If anyone brings up his role tonight it probably should be for allowing the Wolves time wasting from 20 minutes in, which was a disgrace, but also for blowing a foul on a clear dive by White which would’ve put the Wolves in 3v1.
Shocking piece of defending.

TT

Yea Tom it was a dive alright. And I would love to see referees giving yellow cards for time wasting early in a game. It makes no difference whether it is in the 5th minute or the 89th. Its still time wasting.

OCGooner

Bacary,
Is there a place to watch the games up there in LA? We had an Gooner bar down here (Olde Ship in Santa Ana) but it closed during the pandemic. I would sometimes plan a long lunch there for the midweek games – Europe or Cup – so I could get the game-watching energy with other Gooners.

Goobergooner

Definitely wasn’t a pen in the first min for me,

Well said by TT
“I have watched the replay of that penalty claim. It was not a penalty IMHO. If that had been given against Arsenal we would be using that as another proof of referee bias against us.”

LeMassiveCoq

bacary.. It wasn’t just Pedro who backed Tets. A lot of us on here could see the long term plan (the process 😉 Not saying I haven’t had the odd wobble, but what he (and the club as a whole) are building is all positive. Young, hungry squad. Dead wood (mostly) gone.. Just got to compare his positivity with Cunte bollocks 🙂 Arsenal Amazon > Spuds 🙂 If we do hit the top 4 jackpot we are in the best position for years and years. CL money would allow us to buy a top quality, young striker to succeed Laka.… Read more »

If he had blown the penalty for Arsenal we would have blown the wolves out of the water.

So many ifs are just speculations, We just beat the celeberation Police club 2-1 let us savor the win and stay positive. we have tommorow to review the match in full.

Thanks for your understanding.

Warm regards,

The Arsenal

Mulerise14

Sure am going to watch the 2nd half all over…..I was watching on my phone, when my Missus call came in that 70minute and when I finally drop the call…I only saw Laca pumping fist celebrating…wow did we equalise! only for the winning goal to be shown in slow motion.. … sure this is a game I am never gonna forget…. onward and upward…..14 finals remaining

Mr Serge

Yeah I have been backing Tets for ages I got abused big time last summer for doing so
I can see we are improving and the players we fought this season have been great
Get a proper cm and striker in this team and we can really kick on

Mr Serge

Abused by a lot on here but I have forgiven them as we all support the team at the end of the day and I am the bigger man lol

BacaryisGod

OC

The Fox and Hounds in Studio City might be the best place/ Not sure what Covid restrictions exist etc but always a good atmosphere.

raptora

Serge, if I’m not wrong you wanted Arteta fired after we lost to Villarreal. I don’t judge you.

Goobergooner

Hahaha Mr serge 😂

WengerEagle

Serge cannot seem to recall anyone abusing you?

Having a different opinion on Tets is what you meant surely?

OCGooner

Bacary,
Cheers mate! I’ll check it out. Appt with my LA customer in morning…….lunch with Arsenal…..;-)

Bertie Mee

Xhaka’s willingness to get Jimenez off tge oitch was not matched by his urgency during tge actual game . He is Mr. Superfluous. He kept letting Podence hurt us in the first half. Very good performance by Cedric who is arguably our best right foot crosser. Pepe changed tge game and Nketiah was exactly what Wolves didn’t want to see when he came on. A lively partner for Lacazette . Defence was not at its best tonight, Partey did a manful job with nobody useful to help in midfield but we had spirit and quality in the last fifteen minutes… Read more »

Martin Ødegaard covered 12.02km against Wolves. The most distance covered by an Arsenal player this season.

Much love for Ødegaard tonight on Twitter.

Mr Serge

Get a proper cm and striker in this team and we can really kick on

Yep.

Laca and Xhaka are our biggest liabilities at the moment.

Really looking forward to this summer TW to have these two fully replaced.

I do hope that we have the right players to replace them and strengthen up for next season.

Getting that done will be a mass8ve step Sen

Mr Serge

Weeagle I got called all sorts of stuff when I was backing him told I was a fan boy etc
Sid was very vocal above all others on this.
Raps I was not happy that night for sure and thought he should have gone
The board decided to keep him and back him and I said we have to support him when that happened I am glad we did
We can’t keep chopping and changing and stating again we don’t have the funds is what I said

David.D

Where a fucking win!!!
Yes.
That was mind blowing!!!!
Literally would have taken the point but that was just the best feeling ever to get that late winner.
Against a fucking niggly team who would have LOVED to have beaten us.
So so sweet.
6 minutes.
Payback for their time-wasting
Cunts!!!
Massive massive win.
We deserved it.
Kept on going.
Great goal by Pépé.
We need to believe in him because definitely a player in there and makes things happen.
I’m ecstatic.
Unbelievably delirious.
As good as sex!

Nigel Tufnel

Bertie,
Agree Cedric is our best right foot crosser. I wanted him starting in front of Bellerin. He can even perform throw ins!

Mr Serge

Cedric has been decent covering for Tommy but Tommy should rightly get his place straight back when he is fit enough just as KT did over nuno

Time Up

Mr Serge,

In a night like this you can stop “people called me all sorts”.

What a weirdo you are.

Time Up

I think tomorrow post will be 5000 word love letter from Pedro to the love of his life Arteta.

It will be even about how Arteta smiled and winked at him after the match.

Mr Serge

The ground ode covered today was immense the lad is going to be amazing for us

Mr Serge

Time up why is that weird lad ?

First comeback under Arteta.

Arsenal have won for the first time in the Premier League under Mikel Arteta after trailing at half time.

It’s clear why we’re interested in Neves. I appreciate Arteta’s ambition to play 4-3-3, it’s certainly a more dynamic and entertaining system than 4-2-3-1. But it requires a different breed of midfielder. Against a better team, Xhaka’s limitations would have cost us 2 goals today. Neves is perfect for the new system.

Mr SergeAugust 14, 2021 15:24:00 I was firmly Arteta out but the last 7 games and the after Xmas league gave me a glimmer of hope but the main reason I was on the fence was because I knew we would not sack him so I backed him for this window However after seeing the match last night I can’t lie to me eyes any more I will be booing from the terraces in a couple of weeks And now he’s back to “I have been backing Tets for ages I got… Read more »

I don’t blame him.

Arteta is very far from being stupid. He knows what he wants (a bit too much) but he is fully focused on achieving his objectives.

Come on The Arsenal!

*OC Gooner-you might want to call ahead to be sure but have a great time if you go!

*Nigel-From personal experience, calf injuries are stubborn as hell. Just when you think it’s fine, the pain comes back or the other one pings. Luckily Cedric is looking up for the task right now, despite some occasional brain freezes. Tomi should stay in rehab until they are 100% sure he can play.

Johnno

Great result. Just imagine how great it would have been if we had guendouzi ozil and Auba in the team. We would be top 3. Just like we were when we had them in the team before. Oh hold on……

In a world turned upside down by the developing war in Ukraine last night, for Gooners everywhere, a nerve tingling night matched with a well deserved win. It didn’t matter that Pepe should have been a starter instead of Laca or White at RB with Holding as RCB or a back 3 to begin with. We got the 3 points and that’s all that matters. It didn’t matter because we won. Yes, we made hard work of twitchy 95 minutes with only 5 shots on target; an improvement on our last game and against the 2nd most miserly defense in… Read more »

When it isn’t going your way on the field you best make sure you are putting in 150%. Thank goodness arteta is the coach cause half the lot on here would have dropped h by now

Tony

https://www.fotmob.com/match/3610120/matchfacts/arsenal-vs-wolverhampton-wanderers When you click on any player or in this instance Laca, his figures are not that impressive. I feel Pepe would be far more the better performer, as he was for his 19 minutes and scoring. Laca’s effort was going wide but Far’s hand directed it for an own goal. I’d rather Pepe than Laca against Watford. Just my opinion. Pepe offers individuality and pace that Laca doesn’t have. On his day Pepe can terrorise big defenders with his unpredictable style; one footed or not. Pepe found his form in the African nation’s cup and still has it if… Read more »

The last time we had a match like this was against Leicester when Welbeck scored that last minute header. Things went tits up afterwards and the rest is history. Just don’t fucking think this is in the bag. Weve got to repeat yesterday’s performance 14 more times if we have to. And fuck it, I know he’s become a donkey all of a sudden, but I love Laca. I’m sure those young boys would want him gone. As a second striker I won’t mind him staying on. About Auba, this is what I think. He absolutely stopped playing for Arteta.… Read more »

Liverpool and City never look to waste time when they are ahead. You don’t see them (as wolves did) antagonising the home fans by taking 4 minutes to treat and then take off a player who had obviously pulled his hamstring You don’t see them(as wolves did) take 3 minutes to make a straightforward substitution by changing their mind on who they want to come off.. Arsenal and Arteta need to learn from wolves pathetic attempts to time waste last night , we have been just as culpable in certain games this season and i rhink ultimately it doesn’t work… Read more »

Emiratesstroller

Excellent result.

First time since December 2018 that Wolves have lost apparently a game in EPL having taken the lead.

The double against them has now given us a great chance of finishing in top 4.

Samesong

Martinelli struggled as he was up against a very good right back in Semedo. Semedo showed Martinelli out wide all the time. Martinelli is he better playing invertently.

Agree Pierre Wolves were trying to slow the game down. Think they knew we would keep the pressure on. Eddie did well when he came on continued to press there midfielders and defence with the ball that allowed us to keep the pressure on.

Guernsey+gun

Brilliant win last night, this is going to be a hell of a run in. This team at least has some bollox for the fight.

Muppetman

Still buzzing brilliant result. No matter where you sit on the Arteta spectrum if you didn’t enjoy that finish I’d question why you even bother

Habesha Gooner

At home we are a match for anyone bar Mancity and Liverpool. And we have city a game until there was some crazy few minutes. Liverpool at home is the only game we realistically should drop points. I think we should be aiming to take all the points at home. Even against United and Leicester which are tough games but we need to win. We also have some very tough away games left. Southampton, Tottenham, Villa, Palace, Chelsea and Westham. We need to show up on those games. We should beat Newcastle and Watford away though. But above all, we… Read more »

3 Players who I think played very well yesterday despite not getting the limelight : Partey , Martinelli and Saka .
3 Players who had a bad game : Xhaka, Tierney and Gabriel ( although it was only that one mistake ) .
.
Its worrying to me Tierney seems like losing his form at the wrong moment . His timing of attacking runs has been off , passing has been poor and seems to not dribble when 1v1 unlike last season.

Buzzy

One of the clear winners here is ME! I was the only one who stood by by Cedric when he was named in the starting line up away to Wolves. How do you all feel now? As I mentioned that time, he’s quite superior to Tomi in every department, especially going forward. Better ball control, better balance , WAY better crossing and a better link-up play. If you can’t see that then you’re the type of fan who falls for notions based on popularity and not logic. And some even claimed I was racist and against Asians just because I… Read more »

Just love Lacazette.
His commitment, his passion, his desire to fight for the cause, it’s just brilliant. We need him, big time.

Buzzy

I also rate Cedric.

kjelli

we need a goalscoring beast asap.but it is obvious that defenders are afraid of Gabi and Pepe
and that works to our favour.. just cuff up the Haaland buyout-clause and we are rocking.

Bob N16

Buzzy, trying to fight his way out of a paper bag. TT is a much better player than Soares. Soares has been good these last few games. Racist nonsense.

TT

Divine

I don’t think either Xhaka or Tierney had bad games. Our defense was very right biased, especially early on. Gabriel was far more to the right than usual. His dismal back pass came from there. I suspect it was this way to help Soares. This eased in the second half.

Xhaka was playing farther forward than usual but did not play badly.

Saka did not have one of his better games but to say he was bad is over the top IMO.

Emiratesstroller

We have three key games in the space of seven days against Leicester [H], Liverpool [H] and
Aston Villa [A].

How we perform in those games could well decide whether we qualify for a top 4 finish. As
matters stand I think that we will be competing with Man United for fourth place at end of
season.

West Ham have played two more games than us, Wolves are now 5 points behind us and
have played one more game and Spurs are six points behind us with a significantly worse
goal difference.

Northbanker

Great result – still buzzing Lacazette is the one player I really can’t decide on His commitment and energy was faultless last night. A real warrior and yet at the same time as a striker he’s a blunt weapon. Eddie was a bit better when he came in but we’re reallly lacking in the CF dept and it shows in all of the gams we’re playing With the possession we have we don’t lol threatening enough Compare to the early 2000s when Bergkanp Henry and Pires were looking like scoring every attack I would like to see Pepe more and… Read more »

The cultural change in this club is stark. Those players are playing for our shirt and the match going fans know that. The atmosphere in and around the ground was unbelievable. It’s a different place now, the fans love these players. Well 99.9% do. That comes from having non negotiable s and instilling pride in the club. I love this team, we’re far from perfect, but we have a really good group who look like they care. I’ll never be overly critical of an Arsenal player for a mistake or not being good enough, as long as they put in the effort, and are professional We rode our luck last night, Wolves had the better chances, but we kept going, which makes up for the City game, where we created the better chances, but threw it away late. Rich 100%. It’s taken far too long to address the cultural deficit at the club that Freddie complained about. Without addressing that we would never have got anywhere. Players downed tools for previous managers. Arteta won’t tolerate that. The fact players who aren’t playing are celebrating like that, instead of sulking, demonstrates our progress. Still running on the adrenaline fumes of last night’s victory.

I really hope that Laca’s “goal” last night boosts his confidence.

If we can eek out a few goals from him between now and the end of the season, this would certainly help us a lot in making it a possibility to clinch 4th.

As much as I would prefer either Pepe or Martinelli up front, Arteta is keeping Laca on as he is the senior player/ captain to be looked upto in terms of commitment and in terms of leadership.

Luteo Guenreira

Just finished watching the replay after avoiding the internet all day to avoid the score. What a win that was! Pepe with a beauty. Everyone working hard. The ball finally breaking for us at the death for a change. And the celebration that followed, what a joy to watch. Envious of those that got to be there for this one.

AFC Forever My biggest concern has always been around our recruitment, we need to litter the dressing room with consummate professionals, get the balance and level of internal competition right. We can’t afford to get our recruitment wrong, the central midfield + striker signings are going to be vital, I think we’ll do something in both those areas, but how far this team can go will be dependent on our talent ID We’ve squandered so much money on fees + wages over recent years, we were better last summer, but the club still make me anxious around transfers. Buzzy what are you on about,
This is the first time Cedric would play at such high level consecutively for three matches….oh we are happily surprised alright, but to say he is better than Tomi!
Did you see Ramsdale telling him to speed up his pass if he is gonna pass to him….then Tomi is just more than a RB for us, I don’t think I would exchange him for any other right back in the world now, but we can get a marauding right back to back him up especially when we play against low block

The last thing we should do is to keep Cedric on. He has done a good job as a back up and hopefully these performances will convince someone to come and give us a million or two for him.
