GOOD LUCK BUKAYO (AND ENGLAND)

by .

It’s 745 in New York, I’m at the airport thinking about my UK brethren that woke up at 730am this morning and immediately started sinking pints. What a beautiful mess my home country is going to be today, I am gutted I won’t be there for the shame. I’ve never seen England in a final of a competition and I’m nearly 30. Quite wild.

The mural image in the picture was sent to me by Paul (check out his awesome Instagram), what a moment it’s going to be for a player that has truly blown-up onto the world stage in this tournament. He’s one of ours, there’s a small chance he starts tonight, what an unbelievable experience for him. He has everything, he’s a straight-A student, god-fearing, extremely humble, and everyone who works with him seems to love him. It is such a treat that Arsenal has a player with his technical gifts. Someone is going to need to give Jack Grealish break-up counselling when this is all over… the bromance is strong.

The game tonight is the one everyone wanted to see. The Italian’s have been sensational for the most part of it. Direct, fast, aggressive and spectacular at times. Roberto Mancini has put himself back on the map, he’s reinvented Italian football, but this is where the journey has to end.

Gareth Southgate has been on a similar journey. No one believed in him, but he reinvented the way English people look at football. He didn’t answer the question: How can I put all the shiny pieces in the same side. He built a team that could do the job. We control games, we’re patient, we knock the ball around like Spain when we want to, and we have the class to finish games at any point. We’ve conceded one goal all tournament with Jordan Pickford in goal. That is so impressive.

I really hope we can win it at Wembley. My first big football memory was that Germany semi-final way back when. My first non-Arsenal game was Turkey vs Wembley with my uncle in the early 90s. To go back to there with the man that missed the important spot-kick and win would really be a story for the ages.

It’ll be a tough game though, Italy are deadly all over the pitch. This game though is the one we all wanted. I have no idea what is going to happen, let’s just hope it’s a cracker and we’re lifting the trophy come the end of the game.

Also… those people that put on Twitter, ‘I’m English, but I really struggle to support our country’ need to get in the bin. I don’t mean to be childish, but you don’t have friends if you are writing things like that on the internet.

Onto a bit of Arsenal.

The James Maddison rumours are revving up to white-hot. The ITK rumour mill has Arsenal offering him a shit ton of money. The whispers I’m hearing are that the player wants the move, Leicester absolutely do not want to sell, and the fee will have to hit £70m.

YIKES.

Will this be like buying property in London? Extremely hard to swallow, but long-term, the right move. Or will it be like buying a timeshare to Monte Carlo from Gary down the Masons? Painful and more painful.

It’s an interesting move. Leicester were a top 4 side pushing for the title until Maddison picked up an injury. He’s created the 2nd most chances in the league behind KDB since he made his debut in 2018. He immediately addresses our creativity problem. There’s a lot of chat that his open play creativity doesn’t really match up to the big dogs, which is a fair call… but one of our biggest challenges last season was creating from setpieces. If you have someone that can provide like Beckham, you are in a great place. I don’t think there’s any way around it, he’s a very good player we lack, he’s in the top percentile categories you want him to be in, and he’s been very specifically working on the goals side of his game.

£70m is well expensive though.

Still, you have to thumb through what Arsenal are trying to do here… they’re trying to shortcut top 4 again, but this time with a younger profile of player. Maddison is 24-years-old, he’s on the verge of elite, and he’ll 100% hit the ground running. If you are calling Arteta a bum, that means you have no time for him to blood players, this is what you should be smiling about.

There’s the other side of the coin if you want to take more of a risk. Houssem Auouar for £25m seems like an absolute steal. He’s bossed Champions League knockout stages at 20 years old, he is technically outrageous, and he could be world class within a couple of seasons. But… there’s no guarantee he hits the ground running, there are worries about his attitude, and he wasn’t great last season. He feels very Samir Nasri to me, gifted, but a little unpredictable knowing what you’re going to get.

Again, who knows where this is going, but if we’re tapping up Maddison, I refuse to believe someone hasn’t said, ‘Arsenal, he’s going to be fucking expensive.’

I salute the ambition.

Arsenal are going big with the spine, padding out the squad with well-scouted youngsters, with the hope that these additions make the rest of our players infinitely better.

Imagine an attacking line-up with Maddison, ESR, Saka, and Auba. I mean, that is very, very sexy.

Next up should be Lokonga if the media is to be believed. He’s out of isolation and the paperwork is done. Another sharp siging if it works out. I like that Arteta has been getting intel from Vincent Kompany on the player. You know that not only will he get a talent read, he’ll be getting the character download, which I think is just as important based on some of our recent experiences.

Right, enjoy the game, stay safe, don’t put anything on the internet you’ll regret. Do NOT be that meme of the naked guy crowd surfing.

See you in the comments. x

Diss- Jorginho injury.

MidwestGun

Well perfect half for England see if they can do it for another 45. Think Luke Shaw just guaranteed himself free beers for life. Looks like he enjoys a pint or two.

TheLegendaryDB10

SpanishDave

Gareth will make the subs in the 2nd half. Expect Grealish and Saka to come on. We’ll be getting a livelier team in the 2nd half, just like vs Germany.😊

Leftside

And a Kebab too.

Dissenter

Southgate is not going ti change anything.
I think he needs Grealish more than he needs Saka

Vickingz

Italian players are their own enemies in this match, they ain’t just attacking speedily as needed thus giving time for English players to cover spaces that should be exploited

Ishola70

This five at the back working out for Southgate so far because Trippier has better delivery from wide than Walker and Italy completely missed the England trick with Trippier in the early periods leaving him completely unmarked. As we said before Shaw has been playing well not just in this tourney but for Man United as well. Declan Rice showing why he is a sought after player. He can carry the ball offensively as well as defend. Italy getting more of the ball as the half went on but not doing much with it faced with a packed English defence.… Read more »

Batistuta
Center Forward is Italy’s most weak position as it stands. LB too but Spinazzola was great before he was injured. Immobile has been useless. But Belotti is a much lesser player. I bet, if anything will come out of this game, it will be because of chiesa.

Ishola70

*misplacing passes*

Claver

The Italians are playing really good football.

Spanishdave

Is one goal enough?
Italy will dive more towards the end

Goldinho

Mason mount is absolute pony
Most overrated player I’ve seen in years

Guns of SF

Hola
The italians are going to come guns blazing. I do like when England counter. Sterling needs to understand that he cannot dive this time

Habesha Gooner

Disappointed that Saka won’t get any minutes now though. Because I don’t see southgate subbing him on if things continue this way.

PhD2020

No posters complaining about England players taking the knee?

Fornicating hypocrites….

Danny S

Fuck off PHD you salty prick.

Claver

PhD2020

Fornicating hypocrites….

😂😂I don’t think I’ve heard anyone put it that way before

Spanishdave

Everything is going down the left side

Globalgunner

Sterling diving again

Batistuta

Sterling’s such a diving prick

Spanishdave

Kane’s struggling gives the ball away a lot

Guns of SF

when is it Sancho saka and Grealish time

Danny S

Southgate needs to make changes. Swap out sterling and mount for saka and sancho.

Danny S

The Italians don’t like it when we defend from the front.

Globalgunner

Immobile is such an honest player. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

Foxy

Yes Mount has contributed next to nothing all game.

Guns of SF

Insigne would be good with us. Cazorla like

Spanishdave

We are sitting back too much the right side is wide open and nobody there

Guns of SF

an italy goal and its not good news… momentum swing…
why wait, put on our attackers please. Sancho saka grealish now

Spanishdave

Hav’nt had a shot on goal for 45 mins

Elmo

England 30% possession. 1 shot on target.

Can’t just sit back with 11 in our own third. Need threat on the counter.

S. Asoa

Referee is sharp. Caught a handball trying to keep ball down

Samesong

Declan ‘versatile’ Rice

Useroz

Pickford saved… just

Guns of SF

ok that Chiesa is a good player. does them high speed grass cutter shots with ease….

Ishola70

Chiesa continues to be by far the best Italian forward showing in this match

PhD2020

Fuck off PHD you salty prick.
————
How’s life treating you in that warm, sunny penal colony?

Samesong

England don’t need to go gung ho they are winning, bringing on attackers now would be suicide.

MidwestGun

Not sure England will change anything unless Italy score. Fresh legs on 70 to 75 mins, maybe. Italy pretty much stymied the whole match except Chiesa.

Habesha Gooner

What a player Chiesa is. Even when his team is down and creating nothing, he has the balls to try stuff on his own. That run was Messi Esque.

TheLegendaryDB10

Nice save by Pickford.

But how the fuck do you let Chiesa take a shot like that?

Come on England!!!

Danny S

I can’t for the life of me understand why we keep backing off and letting them run in the box.

Seriously!

Samesong

That declan Rice is a good dribbler also.

Foxy

Chiesa look like he would do really well in the Premiership, has pace power and tenacity

Spanishdave

Told you Southgate crap

Batistuta

Goallllllll

Habesha Gooner

It was coming really. Now England have to come out and play.

raptora

The big game is going to happen!!!

Useroz

1. – 1

Guns of SF

Now bring on the attackers

Goldinho

Cunts

Ishola70

England punished for sitting back too much

Guns of SF

I want to see our boy get the winner. come on bring on saka

Elmo

Probably game over now

PhD2020

Haha..Done on a set-piece.

Who’s Pickford blaming now…?

MidwestGun

Game on now…. Now you will see some subs.

TheLegendaryDB10

Fuck. I just knew this was coming.

We really screwed that up.

izzo

Southgate needs to bring on Saka and Grealish and push italy back. Chiesa is ready to spoil everything. Defending for the full 90 is not gonna do it.

Spanishdave

Italy will now win it

raptora

England defending with 11 ppl in front of their penalty box so early in the game brought this on themselves.

S. Asoa

Southgate cojones will need to grow now and get grealish.

MidwestGun

Pickford always been the weak link for me.. too nervous in his reactions.

Foxy

Southgate has let England do exactly what Jurgen said they shouldn’t. Only themselves to blame if they lose the game now.

Batistuta

We’ve looked bettwr since Immobile was hooked off

Guns of SF

Southgate playing with fire. Keeping the same team on, just trying to hold on. what a dick
Should have attacked Italy when they are so high up, attackers like SS and G should have come on earlier

Useroz

Saka ……….

Guns of SF

supersaka on

Useroz

Tripper off

Ishola70

You can understand England sitting on that first half lead but they have found nothing like the balance of attack and defence required for this second half.

TheLegendaryDB10

Here we go: Bukayo comes on!!!!

Elmo

England have no foothold in the game to work from because we went all in on 11 men behind the ball and try to survive.

Probably too late now to change the momentum.

Tom

Here we go Saka

MidwestGun

Come on Saka.. do us proud.

sly

lol

Habesha Gooner

Bati
This must be very conflicting for you. Being an Arsenal fan, Watching Saka and wanting him not to do well tonight.

Luteo Guenreira

Saka sighting.

izzo

Well shit. Could’ve wrapped the game up early but here we go. What kind of gameplan was Southgate thinking to defend for 90 mins after the early goal. Shouldve blitz them with 2 goals before defending.

Spanishdave

Southgate is a plonker the right wing has not been used

sly

England living up to the pussy label
cojones lite

Guns of SF

this reminds me of Mike Arteta and his subbing pattern….

Ishola70

Game is there for Italy to win now.

They have the momentum.

Useroz

Sitting on 1 nil was OK if u r playing Bolton of the day but not letting Italy attack for 88″….

Guns of SF

whomever thought you could actually hold the fuck on after 5 mins against italy??? wtf….
attack them man… sheesh. terrible strategy today

Ishola70

England split open there.

Tom

Pickford lol

Globalgunner

Southgate playing for penalties now. Jordan Henderson on

izzo

Mount is a nothing player how do you leave Saka or Grealish on the bench to play him on the left. Hopefully it all works out but its looking bad.

Ishola70

Italy going for the kill inside the 90 mins.

They smell the English blood.

Useroz

Italy still attacking relentlessly… need to buck the trend somehow

PhD2020

Oooh..Beradi!!!!

Southgate is so conservative.Plays the low risk percentages…

Got to say,I’ve been impressed by Kyle Walker and Luke Shaw in this tournament.

S. Asoa

Saka would have been proper earlier when we leading. Now Italians rampaging Greali6 was needed. Instead we get Henderson.

Guns of SF

Is Sancho and Grealish not on the sub bench?

Luteo Guenreira

Why is Pickford acting so pissy toward his CBs? Impatiently waving his hands for them to get wider. He looks nervy.

Spanishdave

This is dreadful now we are inviting them to score

Habesha Gooner

Mount, although being a top player has been invisible and useless today. Grealish is really needed if England are going to ignite their attack again.

Batistuta

Habesha

No conflict whatsoever today mate and i dont wish Saka all the best

Elmo

No different to the Beckham generation and the rest. Against the top teams, we can’t keep possession for more than 5-10 seconds, and so settling in to 11 behind the ball and just hope to hang on.

Guns of SF

verrati took down the elephant mcguire

TheLegendaryDB10

Guns of SF

Yes we do. Sancho and Grealish are both on the bench.

I really want Grealish to be coming on now.

Useroz

Impressed with this ref … A shame he can’t ref Arsenal games
