DAVID LUIZ OUT – ARTETA & EDU PASS FIRST ‘RUTHLESS’ TEST

by .

Happy Friday to you ALL.

David Luiz is out at Arsenal.

A good leader at times.

An inspiration to a generation of Arsenal kids who saw him as a mentor and a legend.

The absolute correct decision for Arsenal FC as we head into a big summer rebuild.

I don’t want to bag on the player, but the reality is for all his big game skill, he was mistake-prone, unfocused, and problematic if he wasn’t getting exactly what he wanted.

Moving him on is a big move for Edu and Arteta. It’s the first break on the grip that Kia has had on the two of them. It opens up a space for someone like Saliba. It allows us to start addressing the ‘unforced error’ table he’s had a massive had in over the past two years.

This move was also correct from an injury perspective. Arsenal lost Luiz at the most important part of the season, we got him back, then lost him right after. Big players need to be fit. Luiz is on the back 9 of his career, he’s not getting fitter or faster.

I am very, very happy. This sets the tone for the summer providing we don’t walk right back into another hellish deal for some other older player looking for a retirement deal.

There are lots of rumours bubbling around. I think we’ll move on Bertrand as cover for Tierney, we’ll sign a right-back, we’ll look at a good central midfielder or two, and I suspect we’ll find competition for ESR for that #10 spot.

We need to move on the players that have baggage with Arsenal.

We need to age down the squad.

We need to find players with big personalities that want to grow with one of the most exciting young crops of players in Europe.

This summer could be exciting, we just have to trust our novice leadership team actually learned the lessons of the last 18 months.

Big, big if… but this is a great start.

In other news, how awesome is the new Arsenal kit? Literally the best part of the season is the new shirt.

Right, a quick one today, see you in the comments.

At least I have friends.

Fabrizio Romano saying we’ll persevere with Pepe, but if an important bid came in, we’d consider it, but we don’t want to take a loss on him, so I’m assuming that would mean we’d want €48million, which I can’t see anyone paying in this market

Maybe a loan fee, and a compulsory purchase fee of €32million next summer, could see us write off the rest of what we owe

Other than Saka, Smith-Rowe, Tierney, it looks like nobody else is untouchable

Champagne Charlie

Lmaooo, there’s your level. Absolutely nothing to say on your hot exclusives, just playground insults.

Basically where most people are at with Pepe, if anyone would offer us a proper fee we’d snap their arm off.

@Marc Brexit is something that politicians brought about and it carries restrictions and laws with it that effect the transfer business. For your education this is how Brexit effects the TW, do keep up with it: First players from the EU hoping to move to England will be treated in the same way as players from the rest of the world. Second, EU players will have no problem getting in, as long as their CVs are impressive enough. I love that ringer design for the shirt. Classic 1970 Brazil style!

Unpopular opinion, know he made mistakes ( and was targeted by officials in a way he never was at Chelsea) , and not saying he should have got a new deal, but I thought the team suffered badly when David L got injured

I really don’t see the attraction with buying another winger. We’ve gone from zero wingers in emery’s first season to just collecting them. Wing will be the new CB for arsenal if we buy another unless we’re selling a couple as well Surely our right resources need to go onto the weak areas rather than trying to make our good areas even stronger CM, RB, GK all need a first team quality player. Backup LB is needed. An option to rotate with ESR at AM is important Address all of those and you can start refining the other positions like… Read more »

If we cannot get service to Auba, what is the point. Another frustrated player and season for the fans. Id rather cash in and find a good striker and use the funds to rebuild the midfield. Also, get his wages off the books…

If we keep him, Mike and Edu need to get it right – and how to get this team scoring again… a crime that he was wasted on the LW most of the season…with Mike thinking he was being “smart”

Guns of SF

Golden boot winner, and runner up… and then 10 goals… like WTF I can see having a bit of a down season but not losing like half your goals… 10 more goals from him, 5-7 more from our woeful mids That is a few more wins for sure…. we might be looking at a lock at EL at this point. I lay the lack of goals on Mike. His over emphsis on being hard to beat and break down comes with some side effects. We score very little. IF we get scored on, its always a struggle to outscore the… Read more »

I’m quite certain if we buy a winger this summer because of the resources lost on him we will still be rolling into the season with xhaka at cm or bellerin at RB or Leno in goal and people will be surprised that we didn’t manage to upgrade on them

Priorities the dross/average before trying to improve the good

Resigning Luiz should never have been an option. Not last year and not this year. The problem is the team who made these terrible decisions are still in place. If they have come to their senses on Luiz then great but what other expensive fuck ups await? A double your money four-year deal for Bertrand? I would love to think there is some structured succession planning going on to transition the club over the next few years, smoothing the path of our talented younger players to become Arsenal legends. But i very much doubt it. Bertrand is the equivalent of… Read more »

Would I like an new winger, Sure. One that plays that wing as natural as Saka does on the right would be good instead of willian. But we need to Prioritize. Our attack underperformed not because the players that are able to play there aren’t good enough. Rather the manager sucks is getting any sort of pattern to get to attacking and shooting positions. We also have CMs that are static and never play beyond the middle third of the pitch. Third man runs and being able to play on the final third is a necessity for a good CM.… Read more »

Cedric is more than capable of being a back up RB and LB. Or is it the understanding that a player who hasn’t got any game time is now going to be first choice RB after bellerin leaves.

Arteta has made very poor use of the players he has inherited. Outside of about 15 players, no one got any decent amount of game time, so we were basically playing the whole season with a very fatigued 11.

Guns of SF

Yes we need this sorted out fast. CM CAM and RB Our right side attack needs a fast RB who can attack and defend… young and with a great upside. Its not going to be Chambers or Soares… although Soares has looked ok at times there. A Max Aarons or Lamptey maybe?, Anyhow, Auba must play as CF.. Martinelli might as well be starting as LW.. he has had enough games and a good preseason should lock him in there if mike grows gray matter between his ears Saka a lock at RW- we need to stop messing with him… Read more »

People defend KSE and claim that our problem has nothing to do with them. I think the major reason why the club signed Willian and now considering Bertrand. is because the club is lack of funding. If KSE provides sufficient funding like other top 6 teams, I am sure that the club won’t behave like a garbage collector.

Guns of SF

Nelson we have an owner worth like 7B, his family has like 20B Its not like they dont have money. What is 100M for the next few summers going to do? Nothing… its a small amount for them Can you imagine – if KSE gave us 100M per summer over 3 years. we should likely win the league… Lets start by getting a good cash injection from them this summer. The whole scouting issue looks like another example of our chaotic management. It’s one thing being agile and able to flex but we are all over the place.

Samir

Guns of SF
100M really isn’t that much. No chance we win the league with 100M per year from Stan.

More like 200M per year for 3 seasons.

Sid

I demand that my beautiful poetry should not be deleted by supreme leader

Moray

It all depends how long we’re prepared to wait.

I would say we have a top 6-7 squad currently, with the right manager. Our next challenge is to break into the CL places. This isn’t impossible, if we look at where West Ham are today. The right quality addition in mid could unlock the potential of other players around him, including Auba of course. And we can raise some capital with sales. 100m would be a good start.

Guns of SF

how about 150M~ ! a compromise!

Habesha Gooner

Am I the only one concerned with the fact that Arteta is going for yet another CB? Both Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano say it is a priority position for him. I don’t understand this manager at all. He gave Holding a new deal. Now we have him Saliba, Mavropanos and Even chambers to Play RCB. but it has to be a player he signs? As Partey is a CM and not a DM so we need to buy a DM. Someone like Bissouma would be perfect as the 2 of them could then form a unit. partey’s best performance was at OT when his partnership with Elneny seemed to really click. They didn’t play together that much after that game as TP was injured quite soon after . Partey is too casual in front of his own box. and so is not for me the last man in midfield. And irrespective of earlier comments I would use Azeez on the bench as there will be plenty of opportunities to get game time and sub appearances. That is how a lot of players are developed inc Leicester’s players and with Saka. They don’t all need the ESR route. Its only when they are struggling or just not getting the game time should we consider it.

Nelson is a case in point – a loan would have been perfect. I suspect though we will find that Azeez is a level above as with Balogun.

Habesha Gooner

Guns He is insane. The choices he makes are ridiculous. I know he sees them in training and knows them better but what we see on the pitch is completely opposite to what he says and does. Martinelli and Saliba perform. Willian doesn’t. David luiz is not that important. Anyway We can’t pay our way out of the mess we are in. Anyone hoping for Arteta to develop the careers of Balogun and Azeez have not been paying much attention to Arteta. No single youth team player has come through under him. Martinelli has a bad game and is benched for months, Willian stinks out the place match after match, but is either in the first 11 or first man of the bench.

Nnodumene

The Frenchman’s position on handing out deals to players over the age of 32 was that they should only be offered a maximum 12-month extension so as to protect the club in case their quality of performance began to rapidly decline. “It’s not over 30, it’s over 32. So when you have a player [who is] 32 he will just get a one-year contract,” Wenger explained in 2010. “It depends on the positions as well. Bissouma can play – but also lacks goals.

Partey, Pepe, Elneney and PEA involved?

Northbanker

Sid – you can be with who you like as it doesn’t alter anything

Anybody watching Partey play will see that he is much more comfortable up field than he is as a blocker in front of defence. His best game at OT Elneny performed that role well – sadly neither replicated that form later although TP beset by injuries

One would have thought that after 18 months in the job that Arteta would have a good idea of what is our best starting 11, or at the very least a good idea of who will be in the squad next season.
