This is going to be a power blog today.
Sven Mistlinat dropped an excellent interview with Rapha Honigstein in The Athletic. He basically defended all his signings and gave clear rationale as to why the club made the decisions. He also pumped Matteo and Mavrapanos, saying the Greek defender is the fastest defender in the league, and Matteo should have stayed with us.
Without doubt, we’d be a stronger club with Sven here. A lack of leadership didn’t work out well for his tenure at Arsenal. If Ivan G had stayed, he would have managed the process a little bit better and Raul wouldn’t have been allowed to run roughshod on him or the Arsenal brand. It is what it is… he’s doing a good job in Germany with a young collection of players. Hopefully Edu can do something similar with us this summer.

Our summer is HUGELY important to the revolution. The Arsenal machine has some parts that will always break down. We need to address those and Arteta needs to be fucking ruthless about that instead of believing his own coaching hype like he did last summer. Some things cannot be fixed.
My hope is that we start to match results to our performances starting now.
My second hope is that the plan going into the summer is sexy and clear.
Get rid of the dregs. Sign in young players with high ceilings. Hit the ground running next season.
There is a lot to be excited about. Don’t listen to the moaners that can only make a point by considering the entire season in the worst possible light. This was a transition season. It was a pandemic year, which is why you can’t compare it to any season EVER. The key point… we have found something. The coaching is starting to pay dividends. We are on the right track with the right coach.
What are the chances we could have an easy night for once this season?

It’s a very spurious assist. I know that officially it will be; but that was a nothing ball. A high, over hit, looping ball and Gabriel had it all to do. It will go down as an assist but like most of his assists so far, they were not on a plate.

The coaches need to work on the training ground, these things can only be fixed that way & with video analysis. That central area is not the area to play those balls. If not, then may have to consider what Pep did with Hart. Decision making, he has the ability.

I find Willian’s cross is more accurate than those from Tierney. Tierney’s cross aims at a location. Willian’s cross aims at a teammate.
Very good win. It is almost impossible to screw it up from this position even for us. But things could have gone a different way if Gabriel didn’t score that header. And the playing out from the back thing, we just don’t have midfielders that are press resistant apart from Partey. We need to wait until we have midfielders that are aware of their surroundings. Looking at Gabriel goal, it was a loopy cross toward Aubameyang who basically moved away and let the defender deal with the ball, but Gabriel jumped at it and scored by sheer desire and hunger.
It will be recorded as a Willian assist but the goal is entirely Gabriel.

I think you have given Willian too much credit with the cross for Gabriel as well. I don’t think he was trying to pick him out. But maybe my opinion is tarnished by the fact that I cannot stand Willian. I just hate how little he contributes to this team.

Up to now, Tierney has fired at least 40 crosses this season. I can’t remember he had any assist yet….

Tierney plays some great crosses in. Whether they have resulted in an ‘assist’ or not I don’t know, but he delivers a far more dangerous ball than Willian. I really hate that Willian is continuing to pad out his stats with assists that are basically passes given to someone who still has quite a lot left to do to score.
Glad we won but honestly? Why can’t we keep clean sheets? Be error free? Is it too much to ask, especially from professional sportsmen?
