HALE-ENDERS ENERGY INFECTIOUS AS ARSENAL DROP A PERFORMANCE

by .

Arsenal turned up the heat in the❄️snow❄️in a game we’d historically have trouble in. It was freezing, our form has been shaky, and we were up against a Sam Allardyce side. The perfect concoction for an afternoon of potent shit-housery.

Not January 2nd 2021.

Arsenal blasted out of the starting blocks and found themselves a sexy performance. Our 4-0 victory was more than worth it. We could have had 6 on another day. 21 attempts at their goal, 12 shots on target, dominant in possession, and plenty of variety to our attacking play.

There were so many great performances, but it’s hard to look past Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka as the standouts. The Scotsman really found his stride, opening the scoring with a blistering run and strike. He turned Darnell Furlong inside out before cutting inside on the left, drilling a thunderbolt into the top corner.

3 minutes later, the Hale-Enders took over on the right. Smith Rowe and Saka drove through the middle, Lacazette found Smith Rowe’s run, the young creator kept his composure finding Saka for the tap-in. A proper Arsenal goal. Saka’s 3rd g/a contribution in as many games. Smith Rowe’s second assist.

The third and fourth goals were taken care of by Lacazette. Good work from Saka out wide for the third, Smith Rowe’s deflected shot fell to Laca who buried it. Tierney did all the work for our 4th, placing a perfect cross at WBAs 6 yard box where a loose knee pushed it over the line.

The game was simple enough for us to take Bellerin off to give AMN some minutes. We were also able to take ESR and Saka off early, and we didn’t need to gamble on Martinelli. Nice to see Willian given a few minutes to show why he’s a spectator these days, though he did register his second shot on target for the season (someone told me that stat, is it really true?).

That’s three wins on the bounce. We’ve gone from relegation fodder to being laughably within 6 points of 2nd place in the league. That’ll all change, no doubt, but the truth of the league this season is it’s tight and likely to stay that way.

The Hale-Enders have made a huge difference to the energy on the pitch. Hungry players make it difficult for the not so hungry players to mail it in. These kids have careers to play for. That’s the energy we need. Strong characters that just want to play nice football.

Also worth mentioning some of the more seasoned guys out there. Rob Holding is very reliable and had another solid game at the back. Pablo Mari looks pretty sound, he has a nice touch, he passes well, and he’s dealt very well with 3 very different teams. I also like his hair. Alex Lacazette is back from the dead. His finishing has been great, his workrate has been top-notch, and he’s adapted to this false 9 role like a pro. He’s more important to this system than Auba. Shades of Teddy Sherringham in his latter years? Maybe.

Now, though our captain had a bit of a shocker again, it’s clear he’s deeply frustrated with the way he’s playing. He gives a fuck. He was running right until the end. He wanted a goal. He celebrated with the kids like he cared. That made me feel better about his form, he’s trying, it’s just not landing right now. It’ll click soon, hopefully for the cups when we’ll need his sharpshooting.

Arsenal needs to keep racking up the wins. It’s frustrating that we had so many discipline problems earlier in the season. Lose those red cards and maybe we’re even closer. Cut our losses earlier on Pepe, Luiz, and Willian, maybe we’re in better shape. Rest Partey for one more game and maybe December looks better. Still, we are where we are because we deserve it. Now things are looking brighter, the hope is that the lessons have been learned and this is the next chapter in our season.

Gabriel M is going to be a difference-maker if we keep him fit. Our best centre back is coming back into the side. Thomas Partey should be in contention for the Newcastle game, that’s our hero signing and he’s played 3 games all season. He will be massive for our run-in. ESR looks the business, he’s strong, he moves rapidly, he can take the ball on the half-turn, and he’s making the difference in big games.

The transfer window might give us some additional ammo. Firstly, we’ll move out toxic players that aren’t contributing positively. Then we’ll add some additional bits. Smith Rowe has played a big role in our mini turnaround. We only have one player like that. It is essential we find another that looks like him so we can rotate and maintain creativity. We desperately need a back-up keeper to protect us from the horror signing we made in the summer. I also think there’s a shout for a back-up left-back with Kola gone.

I hope we make mostly loans. I don’t want to load-up on panic buys that’ll cost a premium. It would be nice if we could be more thoughtful about what we do this time.

It feels so good to be waking up to the positive vibes of a performance last night. Actually watching the game and then wanting to watch the highlights again feels alien! Great performance last night, despite WBA being the whipping boys of the league, I’ll take it. The pleasing factor is the personnel that delivered it. We really have a bright future with KT, saka and ESR to name but a few. However, that said, I have to say it frustrates me when people suggest that arteta stumbled upon ESR and his hand was forced. Yes it may have taken… Read more »

I was stoked that Arteta was actually putting emphasis on the defence, unlike the last 2 managers. But not at the expense of our attack. Our defensive unit is still more organised than under both former managers but until the last 3 games we had no clue how to attack. For someone meant to be generational, surely he should have been putting the emphasis on utilising our best assets which has always been our attacking players (well at least the sentiment of squad building over the years was to first bolster attack and then defending was secondary). I’ve mentioned many… Read more »

I thought a number 10 is becoming an anachronism? Many clubs have creativity and goal scoring elsewhere. If we are lacking a number 10 this season (which is quite possible) then we should have been playing a different formation. If we were lacking creativity (also very possible) then that is also an indictment on our transfer and selection dept.

Dissenter

It’s almost as if Arteta didn’t make a course correction. He just kept using the same doomed selection and voila… there came a turn-around. How dare fans not just accept mediocrity and no league wins for two months? Isn’t is perfectly proper that we were 15th and dropping like a stalled aircraft? This season is already a failure, stop all the premature gloating and stop make cheap attacks on others. There’s nothing that was written by Arteta skeptics or Arteta haters that was out of touch with reality. Pedro acknowledged that Arteta crossed into the point where it was justifiable… Read more »

How dare fans not shut up and watch the manager starting withWillian over and over again when there were better options?
Arteta is using Arsenal as a finishing school, some of the mistakes were preventable.
Maybe he should have trusted his full squad better from the get go.

Great days supporting the club back then when Charlie George came onto the scene..
The North Bank Highbury was quality back then , some great characters.

“stop all the premature gloating”

This is what makes Dissenter a caricature of himself. From the same guy who wrote the following:

“When I predicted that Conte’s Inter will win the league against a Sarri led Juve, I was mocked by several posters. Now it’s not so funny is it?”

SPOILER ALERT: Conte’s Inter did not win the league against a Sarri led Juve.

Don’t ever change.

There is now cause for optimism, and I think we can start to look upwards and not behind us in terms of the league table, however we do need to accept there is likely further frustrating results and inconsistent performances to come. Our next 2 league fixtures look.very winnable now, but following on from that is a very tough stretch of games. I think at this stage we will likely finish in the league a position between 7th and 12th. This is obviously not enough for a European position in the league, so I hope we can give the FA… Read more »

Dissenter Arsenal have a grossly bloated squad and I suspect that Arteta has been under huge pressure to keep everyone happy. We have seen the outcome of leaving Ozil, Sokratis and Saliba out of squad and not playing at all. That has resulted in huge criticism amongst some posters in particular in case Ozil and Saliba. Despite these absences we have been overloaded and it has taken the last three games to create the correct balance in starting eleven. Anything is achievable this season. How much of the unpredictability is down to no fans in the stadium?

When fans come back (please) we might get less of these weird results. That might suit us because we’ve been away to all the difficult places and have a pretty decent second half of the season. A CL place might not be as ridiculous as it seemed a few weeks ago.

I honestly don’t want to see any incoming transfers this window.
Just push forward some academy grads and have them provide depth for key positions.
play omari Hutchinson if you want to give ESR a rest.
Play azeez or amn if you grow tired of seeing xhaka being xhaka week in week out.

We need to lighten the squad first and foremost. Wenger would have never ever kept this many senior players around.

Wrighty is spot on there. Arsenal fans have every right to expect more from Willian, he isn’t some youngster coming in from abroad, and his unprofessionalism with the Dubai trip was very disappointing. However the team until the last few games has been struggling, and he did look good in the one game in the first part of the season against Fulham where we played good football. Now that we are playing better again, now is the time for Willian to prove everyone wrong, even if it may not be exactly how he imagined, he could be an impact player… Read more »

Hi guys there was a great post by Darren Lewis over on Arseblog last couple of days explaining the PEA situation well worth a read. The reason why some players who we thought very good arn’t performing is very simple. The system doesn’t suit them happens at every club. Imo apart from Mr Lewis’s insightful post the reason why Auba is almost like the odd man out at this time is bcos he was the top deer. Practically got us an fa cup singlehandedly. Valentin I have a different theory with Auba’s problem. When he signed his extension, he was expecting the club to kick on after the FA Cup win. With Arteta’s big mouth, he must have painted a wonderful world for Auba. Then came this big collapse. There were games that Auba didn’t have a single shot on goal. He must have given up on Arteta’s process. He wasn’t smiling anymore. Yesterday, one could see that Auba’s body language started to change. He celebrated with the rest of the teammates on all the goals. He started to look happier. The recent Laca’s… Read more »

Mari has done well since he came into the team so as much as I like Gabriel he may have to wait. At last we have competition in the CB positions and that’s a big plus. Mari & Gabriel are composed on the ball too. Mari has won the Copa Libertadores (SA equivalent of CL) so he’s got big game temperament as well as ability. Good news; we won’t have to watch Mustafi passing to the opposition or over committing again!!!!

Raulishuss

Val I know you was on lacas neck for a while and was advocating we switched auba to the middle as laca didn’t have the stamina to play as a 9 in the pl but I can’t be bothered to search for evidence as you’ll deny it till the end of the world. Seeing as you’re now going on and on about how auba can’t deliver in this system I’ll wait till he proves you wrong as usual

AFC Forever

Nelson

You’re right. Auba is an easy target for the bully boys who live nothing more than jumping on players backs. Anyone who doesn’t think he is a quality player is a moron. He’s lacking confidence, every player goes through it and it’s energy sapping.. He’s also in a transitional team that has been struggling and captain,so huge responsibility that he’s probably never faced. Class is permanent, form is temporary so he’ll come good. He needs support not criticism. We owe him that.

I never take anything a hack or pundit says seriously. They are a pretty clueless bunch paid to chat crap aimed at provocation. Darren Lewis is Liverpool fan and sees things from that perspective. Ian Wright is a club legend but gets a lot wrong. I think the best thing we can do is watch a game and discuss with our mates. Lewis, Winter, Rednapp, Souness, Durham, Spitter Carragher, Jordan – what a bunch of sad sacks chatting endless shit.

Opinions are like arseholes and the aforementioned arseholes have crap opinions.

DivineSherlock

How can anyone with a straight face say Saliba is not all that , when we have Wesley Fofana playing at Leicester as if he belongs there . Its so sad whats happening with the boy , sadly it means he would never play for Arsenal.

Raulishuss

Guess which player had the highest xG chain (total xG of every possession a player is involved in) for us yesterday? Aubameyang. I actually thought he played very well last night . Was involved in our build up much more than usual and us happy to help create movement for others, the goals will come

Raulishuss

Why are you guys so up in arm about Saliba? He’ll play for a very long time for this club, he’s 19 ffs his time will come. He’s not getting in ahead of our current CBS. He should go on loan

Tom

Three wins on the trot is definitely a trend and not one easily dismissed despite of the opposition which, btw, outside of Chelsea, are two relegation candidates. We couldn’t have played Brighton under better circumstances than when we did. They rested 7 players from the West Ham 2:2 draw on one day’s rest. They could’ve played another 90 minutes with that squad and not score a goal. Afternoon,

Great result and good performance all around yesterday.
The youngsters have made such a difference to the way we play. nearly every ball was a forward pass and this has helped the front line. Although auba still looks a little out of sorts.

Laca looks like a new signing the last few games.
And defensively mari and holding look a good partnership.

You can tell Tierney comes from Scotland short sleeves no tights and gloves for him.
Irn bru flowing through that lads veins.

I don’t think we should be buying or loaning a left back this window. Cedric and AMN are fine deputies for the remainder of the season.

Our priority should be clearing the wage bill and saving our ammunition for the summer.

I hate Green Bay

That was our best all round performance in absolutely ages. Was really pleased that Martineli wasnt used. Was very disappointed Willian came on, would much rather see how Pepe does in the new system. In the games he has started this season, he has been isolated on the right as everything went down the left hand side. Now that we can name 9 substitutes, of which we know 3 or 4 wont be used whatever the circumstances, wouldnt it be a good idea to have Belagun and Azeez on the bench? At least they would be around the first team.… Read more »

You have to leave the Ozil fixation behind, you bring him into virtually every post – he is a busted flush. He downed tools over 2 years ago, he is out of condition and not interested in football or the rigours of keeping fit enough to play in the EPL. He is not coming back to haunt EPL defences ever again. He is not even fit enough for a back up. The academy players joke about him behind his back. Let it go and just stick with your fond memories of him for your own sanity.

Up4grabs, Tierney shows you why Scotland is the future of world football. While some kids are roasting brass or driving their lambos into the wall, you can bet Tierney was perfecting his movement by dodging heroin addicts in the street, improving his foot speed by dancing on crossed swords and working so hard on the training pitch that UV rays simply couldn’t touch his skin.

Valentin

Raulihuss,

I have always been against Aubameyang in the middle when we played in a 3-4-3. In such a defensive system you need somebody capable of holding the ball on his own. Playing with his back toward the goal with two big burly defenders on his back is definitely not Aubameyang strong suit.

Go and hopefully don’t come back until you find such post…

If someone makes the point that we need a back up to ESR , then I think it is perfectly reasonable to suggest that a player on 350 grand a week could be used as a back up., taking into account that the club has already wasted hundreds of millions in the last 2 seasons…

Obviously the know nothings think different and would rather waste another 50 mil or so on a back up CAM , as that is what it will cost including wages to bring anyone decent in.

Have to say I think arteta has got a bit lucky. The Chelsea result really saved his arse. Form wise we were awful, and if we had lost that im sure we wouldn’t have beat Brighton either. This could be artetas Alex Ferguson moment when he was about to be sacked, and won a cup replay that saved his job. If we keep kicking on, and three wins on the spin is a good start. It’s always quiet on here after we win [which has been pretty rare barring the last week].

I’m still very much Arteta Out myself but I’d be a liar if I said that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy that yesterday.

Played well, created lots of chances, scored four goals, clean sheet, dominated possession, youngsters played well, Lacazette back in form and most importantly pulled down ObeseSam’s pants and spanked him for talking shit about us being relegation rivals.

We beat teams in 17th and 19th places and suddenly we’re all that? What vision? What sauce? A bit early to be drinking already, Pedro.

Do you think we should absolutely change our tune because of 3 wins? you yourself have admitted arteta based on results should be sacked. But the management is keeping faith in him. It doesnt mean I didnt enjoy last nights performance. It was so good. And I am sure Marc also enjoyed that.

“Arsenal had look of club that couldn’t string a pass together let alone put in a solid 45 minute performance 10 days ago.”You obviously haven’t been watching the Europa league were Arsenal have swept aside teams in style

Dead give away right here and couldn’t be arsed with responding to Calypso Red, if i’m honest his best form on here was Dialsquare…. peak misery right there.

Good game yesterday but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. We’re a long way from turning a corner.

“Weak sauce.”

I wouldn’t criticize our fellow Le Grover before knowing the detail. Marc has too much class to shy away from you.
