I don’t know about you, but does this year’s transfer window feel double weird on a fan level? It’s like quarantine has made people lose their minds. No chill whatsoever. I feel sorry for journalists. I saw someone sending around a petition to sack the Arsenal social guy the other day. It’s fucking nuts. Also, people are so desperate to seek out information, they start to behave like your gran on Facebook.
‘Pete, it’s honestly true. I have a friend that’s close with the army and covid was the lizard people’
A few things to remember with transfers.
If the account is called @TransferSourceNUMERuno with a bio of ‘LEGIT NEWS NO BS’, the chances are 100% this account is a teenager in their bedroom with zero intel on anything.
‘HE GETS THINGS RIGHT’
No. He hedges bets on everything based on real journo news, then deletes tweets that are incorrect.
There are very few people with legitimate sources on the internet that don’t work in the game or have a platform worth talking to. Clubs do not like leaks. If a nobody is tweeting things that are legitimate, clubs often try and track the leak within the club. That is such a fucking rarity though. The bigger problem is people making things up that damage the club or internal relationships.
If you are in a position of power (gatekeeper of elite info), you are generally pretty guarded about what you share and with who (there is a collection of prominent old school Arsenal fans with elite info that don’t put it on their feeds because they don’t want to fuck over their people). If you work as a coach at Arsenal, you cherish that job. If your mate Dave that you share beers with on a Friday starts tweeting out off-the-record goss and builds a following of 50,000 in two weeks, someone will work out what is going on. Leakers generally have nothing to gain by giving their friends internet stardom, which is why these people are generally bullshitters.
So in short, don’t work yourself up over nobodies that are literally getting sexually aroused by sharing fake rumours about the club.
Today we have a HUGE game against West Ham. They are in a very negative position at the moment, literally doing anything they can to buy a defender. The dressing room is a mess, the football is absolutely shite, and they are looking like relegation fodder this year… which means they are more than capable of beating us with a shithoused goal in the 89th.
This is Arteta on West Ham.
‘Well they have many strengths and some weaknesses, like we all have. I know David, the manager, really well and I know what he will be trying to do tomorrow to hurt us as well. It will be a tough game and I am expecting a difficult battle tomorrow.’
This is the sort of game where I think we’ll learn something about the sort of Arsenal we’re dealing with this season. Last year, West Ham might have caused a problem, will they this year? Or will the players turn up with fire in their stomachs and execute the plan at 100%? If we can deal with the teams that’ll sling 8 behind the ball on a downer, then it’ll start to build belief. We cannot have games like we did against Villa and Watford. We need to progress the way we operate in situations where we ‘could’ be complacent.
The press still can’t leave the Auba story alone, they once again probed with ‘Are you happy your best striker signed’ questions. This answer, about outside interest in him, was the one I liked.
‘Yes, but the size of our clubs is as big as those names. That is what I am saying, the most important thing is the club, what we inspire, who we are as a club and what we can achieve in the future as well, and how we can explain what we are trying to do so the players believe in our project.’
Perception is sometimes more important than reality. Mikel has been doing a fantastic job of late reengineering our reputation off the pitch. There’s a conviction in his communications when he talks about the greatness of the badge. He doesn’t budge. We are a big club, with great facilities, and we’re going back to the top. If you keep repeating things over and over, people start to believe them. Too many Arsenal fans spent the last decade bemoaning fans with standards. ‘Spoilt Arsenal fans shouldn’t expect trophies’… how wrong was that? Arteta expects trophies. The players know that. He communicates how they’ll do it. Everything pushes in that direction. Football is solely about winning trophies, if your standards aren’t at that level, what are you doing?
The club is still trying to do business to make BIG trophies more likely. Ignore anyone that tells you we’re finished for the window. That is absolutely incorrect. We will bring in a keeper and we’ll push hard for a 6 and an 8. It doesn’t matter that Aulas thinks we’ll miss out on Aouar, do you think one of the greatest negotiators in the history of football is giving the real story to a random off Twitter? Don’t be soft. Aulas will push and push and push to extract the max fee he can earn.
There were rumours in the air that we’re looking at a swap deal for Zaha and Reiss. Stories are creeping out of Spain that Simeone has told Torreira that he wants him in Madrid. All of it could be nonsense, but these are the sort of surprise moves that can happen in the blink of an eye. We might not be close to any sales yet, but they’ll arrive as clubs start to realise they have to move on their squads.
In short. It doesn’t matter that clubs, agents and virgins are leaking against us. All that matters is where things land on October 6th, and trust me, things will move.
Right, enjoy the game today, steer clear of fake Twitter. x

De Gea was always over-rated.
Again spectacular with the shot stopping but more recently throws as many in his own net.
The truly top keepers have a very big presence in and among their defenders and in their own penalty area . A real big presence.
De Gea always lacked this.
CT
“He also made a world class save from 1 yard. The ball didnt come to him, he made that save thanks to his cat-like reflexes.
I doubt any keeper in the league could make that save.”
In all honesty, a keeper should never allow a deep cross into the box to fall at the feet ( or head ) of an attacker ONE YARD from goal.
A keeper is asking for trouble if he stays rooted to his line from such a cross..
This ruling about keepers not being able to move off their line on penalties should be stopped.
The penalty taker has a great advantage anyway in taking a spot kick and keepers need to move forward and either side to get the necessary levarage to stop a penalty unless the penalty is poorly hit.
We all know why the ruling is in place though. More goals. Must have goals.
Same reason why so many rulings were put in place to penalise defenders.
“Arsenal and their fans deserve better.”
No they don’tGraham, Arsenal supporters are amongst the dumbest collection of fools in all of football. What little they have been given over the last decade appears to always be enough because they keep coming back, don’t they now?
Simply put, you have to admire Arteta and his positivity. The man has been handed pure shit for talent and he has been doing his darnedest to try to get results out of them. I still don’t expect much from this lot because quite frankly, they are terrible in so many places that even those who are worth it, struggle to make it work. Eventually a lot of the bad contracts will expire and money freed up, but its beyond damning that an organization owned by a mega billionaire can barely scrape two nickels together.. the West Ham effort will… Read more »
The display from Leno yesterday is a troubling performance, one we all have seen several times over the last while. Simply put, he got lucky yesterday and West Ham deserved better for their performance. Take the three points and run with it because Arsenal certainly deserved less for such an abject performance. Midfield reinforcements cant arrive soon enough – what a disaster.
Pierre It was a whipped cross (Set-piece iirc) and in such situations keepers are usually blocked off by opponent players to keep them shunted on their line. It was a very crowded penalty box and in all honesty the defenders should have dealt with that. Holding and Gabriel were poor yesterday aerially. Tho Gabriel made the highes clearances , won a good no. of aerial duels, made a vital block when Leno tripped over Ceballos and nearly broke his neck, he misjudged a lot of aerial balls yesterday. And the less said about Holding the better. Made Antonio look like… Read more »

Our midfield never make any reverse passes. When you watch Leeds play it is even more obvious. Bar Ceballos, When our players receive the ball with their back toward goal, they never try to make a forward pass or to turn and run forward. They just recycle it backward. That makes our play very ponderous and predictable. That was one aspect of Martinez play that I liked. Because he was not afraid of the pressure he was often able to play a chip ball toward our wingback. That allowed us to bypass the press. Our wingback were then able to… Read more »
Yesterday’s performance is a big reality check. You can’t go from one of the worst creative teams to a good creative team by adding just Willian. If he has a day off we won’t do much. I like arteta. But passing patterns and game plan can only do so much for your team if you don’t have individual quality too. Look at Man city. Most chances they create are from passing patterns but even the passers are infinitely better than our players. Then when they meet a team like westham they break them down by a drop of a shoulder,… Read more »
Just watched the game as I was away last night.
And I have just read the comments
I cannot believe there is no criticism of PEPE.
A flim flam con of a player.
Sell sell sell sell SELL?
As Ernest Reed said problems in so many positions still.
James Wood
“I cannot believe there is no criticism of PEPE.”
He’s a squaddie player now isn’t he?
A near 60m squad player.
Ernest
I get where you’re coming from on this, but when you’ve seen the likes of Wilson, Jennings, Seaman and, to a lesser extent, Lehman, between the sticks, it pisses me off that we continue to neglect this important position.
Lehman left in 2008. That’s 12 years of neglect imo.
James Wood, If you dare criticising some players such as Pepe and Leno, you will be accused to have an agenda. Those players are what I call highlight players. They will do something very good once in a while and people will then claim that they are world class. The reality is that for the majority of their play, they are just not good enough. Pepe is not the player people saw on YouTube. He can be devastating in a specific system. He is also very good on specific phase of play, but we should not expect a regular 7~8… Read more »
Pepe needs a lobotomy.
25 but plays like a ten year old.
Talented yes but needs to start to educate himself in the fundamental requisites of the game and fast.
Our patience is being stretched.
Coincidence that Arsenal returned to their old frentic ways at the back with Leno returning in goal as opposed to the calm and composed one when Martinez has been playing? I think not. Arsenal simply make too many strategic transfer mistakes ever to succeed. They should have bought Zaha over Pepe( like I stated) Had they done so, they would not have needed to sign Willian on this ridiculous 3 year deal ( already struggling on the bigger Emirates pitch. And they , desptite what anyones says( manager, fans, pundits) should have started the season with Martinez over Leno. absolutely… Read more »
…..should have started the season with Martinez over Leno….
Nothing new was learned: the squad requires midfield creative personnel. And nobody knows that better than Arteta.
Pass, pass, pass is too predictable: West Ham were geared and prepared for that. The need is for a guy who can alter the angles, do the unexpected. Protect the ball, keep it at his feet. Ee have players who can do that up front. We need at least one in midfield.
Graham62,
“Pepe needs a lobotomy.”
I would say the opposite. He needs a brain upgrade.
Once in a while, he will cross to the second post for Aubameyang, but most of the time when he has the ball at his feet he has zero interplay with his teammates. There is no point in being an excellent dribbler if it never end up benefitting the team.
Ishola I completely disagree on penalties Is called ‘penalty’ literally because it’s supposed to be a punishment. It’s not about trying to create a balanced situation, it’s a dead ball against a keeper rooted to the line. It’s supposed to favour the striker heavily otherwise it’s not that much of a penalty. You can see some absolutely comical abuses of keepers coming off their lines and saving far more than they should and likewise loads of saves without the keeper leaving their line so I don’t see why it’s a bad thing. If the keeper puts in a good dive… Read more »
Pepe lacks strength and explosive pace in comparison to Zaha.
I think that goalkeeper would save a lot more penalties if they did not move one side or another. Nowadays players trains on penalties. The good ones hit the side netting meaning that even when diving toward the right side, it is unstoppable.
On the other hand, players who attempt a cheeky panenka would look foolish if the goalkeeper had not moved and calmly catches the ball.
Somebody need to study this, but my personal gut feeling is more penalties are missed than actually saved.
Zaha’s end product is seriously in doubt tho
He doesn’t score or assist enough
China As you know the vast, vast majority of penalty kicks are scored so the term “penalty” is justified. Usually a penalty kick is missed due to the failure of the kick taker himself. Then there is the very small percentage of time that a keeper actually makes a very good save from a good penalty kick. The ruling used to be less severe on the keeper and as said before we all know why this is so. The mania for goals, goals, goals and more goals like a sunday morning park match. This is entwined with the harsher rulings… Read more »
Valentine only a fraction of penalties are unstoppable. A very large fraction are not even that far off Centre but if the keeper was sent the wrong way it’s enough
Probably less than 30% are on target and hard enough to be realistically unstoppable imo
CG is right about why Willian was signed in the first place,
It was because Pepe was seen as not cutting the mustard.
But he is wayward about Zaha. A dodgy character that will remain at Palace or at least not join another “big” club because his overall make-up as a man and not just a player is off.
Man United was his chance and he sunk there.
A player that is better of in a small pond.
China
“””Zaha’s end product is seriously in doubt thoHe doesn’t score or assist enough””””
His radar looked pretty good yesterday at OT.
He can do what PEA , Willian and Pepe cant do – win games ON HIS OWN AWAY AT THE BIG GROUNDS.
we give fortunes to players like PEA,Pepe and Willian that cant!
Wilf ,has that fire back in his belly.
Arsenal should offer Pepe and chambers to Palace and 15 million if needed.
I’m not championing Zaha to play for us but I wonder whether defenders are more scared of facing Zaha or Pepe?
Think most of you know the answer.
Its early season and you have seen what is underneath once you scratch this team.
Once theres fatigue playing Europa on thursday it will all unravel Emery style, the fair weather players like AMN will be back to type, Xhakalsons legs will be heavier than a bulldogs testicles,
if in any event Auba gets injured it will get ugly
We need a creator to feed Pepe, trying to use Pepe as a creator is clueless
Somehow our inability to move the play foward from midfield is linked to our goalkeeping position and not the utter tripe we have in said midfield position. Some very weirs takes here sometimes you’d think we were unbeaten with the former goalie in goal for us
Said before Pepe may be seen as a very good signing if in the future they try to convert him as a CF.
Other than that not looking that promising for him.
Sidney
“””We need a creator to feed Pepe, trying to use Pepe as a creator is clueless””””
Palace have not got a creator.
Roy Hodgsen sets his team up the same way as Arteta does.
Zaha does the rest.
Zaha would walk to Arsenal from Croydon stark butt naked just with his mask on to sign a contract with us.Thats how desperate he wants to sign.
Only The Dopes in charge are stopping it.
‘He can do what PEA , Willian and Pepe cant do – win games ON HIS OWN AWAY AT THE BIG GROUNDS’ Mentioning Zaha and Auba in the same breath. CG you need to see someone mate, no offense. Zaha and Pepe are two different players. Willian imo is more similar to Zaha. Pepe is a final 3rd player, who you need to create chances for. A bit like Auba. Is it possible to criticize Leno and not come across as angling for Martinez to return? Selling Emi was the right business decision, it was also the best career move for the player. Leno’s performances with crosses and high balls was a bit pathetic yesterday. There was one point where he caught a ball that should have been punched over the head of his own player … landed on the ball and lost it. Lucky for us Westham didn’t score. Leno creates all sorts of drama with high balls. It’s like an audition for Almunia. He needs to work on… Read more »
I think that it was refreshing that Arteta analysed honestly yesterday’s game. First he said that often in games like this Arsenal would have thrown away the result, which is perfectly true. We could easily have drawn or even lost the game. Second he acknowledge that there were clear issues with yesterday’s performance. Whilst he was not critical with the poor passing in first half or certain player’s performance it was plain to see. The left side of defence was frankly awful if not almost invisible. I posed the question what exactly was Kolasinac’s position on the field? He spent… Read more »

PEA scores against the bottom feeders ,granted.
Zaha scores away at OT, Man City, Everton, Anfield etc.
PEA could never in his wildest dreams put a performance in like Zaha did at OT last night.
Wilf has the fire back in his belly.
PEA has the fire extinguished with that £39 million ludicrous salary The Dopes have awarded him.

ES “Finally Arsenal do need to “beef” up our midfield. I suspect that Xhaka was probably not 100% match fit yesterday following his ankle injury against Fulham, but whilst Ceballos made some nice and neat touches I do think that he lacks the physicality, which is required to play in the EPL. If you play with 4 midfielders then perhaps his deficiencies can be overlooked but that is not unfortunately the case with current set up.” Surely lack of physicality applies to Xhaka as well but instead we see an injury theory thrown in. Do you think there is 1 Crystal Palace fan out there, that would swap PEA for Zaha?
Pea single handedly won the FA cup for us and has been the best goalscorer in the league for the past 2 and a half years.
Zaha with a fire in his belly threw his toys out the pram and contributed to less than 10 goals last season ( need fact check but I think I am right).
No wonder Zaha with fire in his belly is linked with the likes of Barca and Inter at 28(peak ) while Auba at 31 has Everton interested in him. Or is it the reverse.
Pea is levels above Zaha. Levels.
I don’t buy this notion that Pepe is a great dribbler, he always looks like he is falling over while dribbling. Total lack of balance and most of the times he doesn’t seem to know what he is trying to do. Zaha very balanced and in control while dribbling but like Pepe he also often doesn’t know what he is trying to do.
‘Do you think there is 1 Crystal Palace fan out there, that would swap PEA for Zaha?’
😂
Palace fans would kill to swap Pea for Zaha if they could.
Ishola70
I understand the criticisms about Xhaka, but I do think that he was impacted yesterday by
the injury sustained against Fulham. He looked much less involved than usual.
No-one suggests that Xhaka is an outstanding midfielder, but he is currently the only player
in squad who is guaranteed a starting place and that reflects frankly on the calibre of midfield.
ES
The notion that only one midfielder needs replacing and all will be sweet with the midfield will not do. It can improve it of course but it won’t be solved entirely.
Not while we have one midfielder that really doesn’t like the physical side of the game. He tries bless him but he really don’t like it.
Arteta…
“We could not control it. We believed that he was going to be fit but during the warm-up, in the last 10 minutes, he said he wasn’t feeling OK. We had to make a decision. We were prepared just in case and Kola came on and had a good game.”
……………
That last sentence is worrying.
Seriously, I couldn’t make out where Kolasinac was playing last night. Sometimes left wing, sometimes left back, sometimes left centre back.
Enough with the Zaha hyms after 1 game, he will do anything of substance after 10 games and will be statistically behind Pepe at the end of season.
Diet pep is clueless on how to get the best of Pepe good thing is Diet seems like a fast leaner.
Leno, Holding, Kolasinac and Xhaka all piss poor.
Left Testicle
“Seriously, I couldn’t make out where Kolasinac was playing last night. Sometimes left wing, sometimes left back, sometimes left centre back.”
No different to when Tierney supposedly plays LCB tbh.
The difference is Tierney offers better quality.
Aubameyang is admired and envied by most, if not all, Premier /European league fans.
Go and ask them.
Be greatful for what we do have CG.
A world class striker.
Zaha is an excellent player but he had his real chance of fame and glory at OT and blew it.
We need a minimum of 2 midfielders
1. A DM, Xhakalson is not capable.
2. A CM, even with a proper DM Xhakalson again isnt an adequate CM. Guend and Ceb probably Willock can do a better job here but diet Pep is fixated on Xhakalson being in the team.
Back to you in the studio.
Any Arsenal fan (if they are an Arsenal fan) who doesn’t rate Aubameyang, is clueless.
Totally clueless.
Graham, to be fair Zaha joined ManU just after turning twenty years old. It was too early for him, and let’s be fair playing under Moyes isn’t going to improve anyone let alone a youngster like that. I think that he could have been a really good player for us but perhaps that ship has now sailed.
Graham
“”””Be greatful for what we do have CG.A world class striker.”””””
World class strikers play in the Champions League
He last played a CL fixture over 3/4 seasons ago?
All I am stating are facts.
To be world class , you need to be able to score against the best at the hardest places.
He is simply unable to do so
14 games away at the best – 1 goal
Zaha ,by contrast is able to score at the big away grounds
PEA is simply Arsenal’s James Vardy.
same age too
Left
“Seriously, I couldn’t make out where Kolasinac was playing last night.”
I agree I watched the match in a local pub and missed the first couple minutes so didn’t see the line up – I thought we were playing 4-2-3-1 – it doesn’t help that when Kolas goes forward it takes him 3 months to get back in our own half.
Ishola70
That was not what I suggested.
Our midfield is a total rebuild job which is why Arsenal are looking currently at recruiting two midfielders.
I think that it is fairly clear that the rebuild of Arsenal is at least a 2-3 year process and there are no short cuts.
If I was Arsenal I would aim still to recruit Upamecano next summer notwithstanding the
acquisition of Gabriel and Saliba. We need at least 3 quality CBs on books.
CG
Why do you persist in trying to portray Aubameyang as a second class striker. You remind me
of RT applying a similar argument about Messi.
Football is a team sport and not dependent on just one player as you seem to think.
From last weekend but still a brilliant goal, watch all the replays !

CG’s only interest is to slag Arsenal off – no matter what they do or achieve. It’s so bad with him that his recent line has been to try and push the idea that we’re title contenders just so he has ammunition to criticise the club at a future date. His hatred of Arsenal is so intense that he can’t help himself sometimes so has to find fault even with players who don’t deserve it.
It is definitely xhaka that will be upgraded upon. Ceballos can do the dirty work as well as get things going.
Pair him with a baller and we look a lot more solid that is for sure
Goober
Ceballos definitely warmed into the game. He’s a very clever and brave lad. He puts his body on the line foe the team when necessary.
No idea why folk respond to CG in any serious way.
He really is a moron who doesn’t understand football, as evidenced by his constant predictions that turn out to be wrong and by his pining for substandard managers like Sean Dyche and Neil Warnock.
He also thinks a manager wearing a suit is paramount so the likes of Scott Parker can look smart when explaining why his team have leaked in 7 goals in 2 games.
Best ignore him, unless it’s to make fun of him.
It doesn’t matter how good a player (in this case zaha) looks in one game. It matters what they produce in a typical performance. In zaha’s case it’s not an overwhelming number of goals or assists because he doesn’t have especially good end product Likewise how scared the opposition feel coming up against zaha will not mean much if his contribution is not sufficiently decisive. ‘Bluster’ is the word I use to describe this kind of player that can tear his man a new one on the regular but what matters more than anything eg end product he’s pretty unremarkable.… Read more »

I just think CG is one of those who is a Wenger fan.
I can’t recall him ever slagging off the few remaining players that remain that were purchased under Wenger.
He was supportive of Ozil if I remember correctly and you don’t hear him pipe up ever about Xhaka or Kolanasic.
Calvert-Lewin, moron.
Aubameyang was purchased under Wenger of course but most realise that signing had more to do with Mislintat than Wenger.
‘“Ceballos had 119 touches and completed 90-of-98 passes’
Sounds great but honestly I feel Ceballos takes too many touches. He would be more effective if he reduced his no of touches. Also plenty of very safe and sideways/backward passes. He played well in the last quarter of the game but still a lot to improve as far as I am concerned.
Habesha yeah there are quite a lot about and very few will go on to have lasting careers at the very top because there will not much the same level of tolerance for them at a massive club when they don’t deliver end product regularly enough
It’s an extreme example because he was a much worse player than Zaha, but Gervinho was this kind of player. Defenders would’ve been terrified because he would run them absolutely ragged, but then he’s get into a dangerous position and far more often than not nothing would happen
I’m fairly confident Walcott too had better goals and assists records than zaha quite comfortably age for age (Walcott has now sadly already long since peaked) but we used to get really pissed off about those times when he would make the wrong decisions or screw things up. Walcott did more and still got more criticism than zaha gets
how can you be close to seven foot with your arms stretched, have the advantage of using your hands but repeatedly get nervous catching a ball? over smaller players who can’t use their hands?!!
he was pussy when he joined and still a pussy now. We got given the opportunity to upgrade and art bottled it. strike one.

Luke Shaw saying united need more signings is hilarious considering he’s the first player that will get upgraded on.
CG
There is no chance of Arsenal signing Mbappe, you can’t be serious when suggesting this. You seem to forget that Aubameyang has played in mostly disfunctional Arsenal sides since he got here. Since Arteta has got us going he has scored winning goals in cup semi finals and finals and even then he has scored against more or less every big team at home. Now we are finally heading in the right direction in a properly drilled team we will see how he fares at Stamford Bridge, Anfield etc
I agree with others here that say while some elements of our play last night left a lot to be desired, we did enough to get the 3 points and we have dropped points in so many of these types of performances in recent years.
Agree with Wasi regarding Leno, hard to find a keeper who is 10/10 in every aspect of the position. What is done is done regarding Martinez (and all the best to him) we still have an overall excellent goal keeper in Leno who can work on his weaknesses.
Oh the joys.
Spuds are losing and Mourinho looks pissed.
Kane getting angry.
Would be nice to see Spurs have a Juande Ramos start to a season again, even nicer if they kept Mourinho the whole season!
Chris
Nothing to do with Martinez.
Based on yesterday’s performance, I’d give Leno 5/10.
Levy a joker to sack Poch and hire Mourinho.
Spud’s downing tools on Mourinho after 135 minutes of a season? That’s got to be a record even for him.
Has Deli Alli been left out of the team or the squad for today?
The Southampton keeper should have come out to make it more difficult for Son.
He’s not a brave keeper.
Graham
It wasn’t Leon’s best game yesterday, won’t debate that at all.
Yet it is very quickly forgotten it seems how he has often produced outstanding performances to keep us in games since he has been here, especially last year. Personally I feel he can still work on his weaknesses and become a better keeper still.
Lets be real, rob holding was poor, don’t think hes good enough for arsenal, As for Nelson and willock both need to be moved on ASAP.
Southampton look decent.
Got a feeling wolves are going to make a 2nd bid for mitland niles, that’s why he was left out.
Son spoils the party.
