MESUT DROPP… oh

by .

What is UP my darlings?

MESUT LOST HIS DEAL

Ok, Mesut’s deal expired and didn’t get renewed.

Ok fine, Mesut is going to blow up his own brand and he’s not signing with anyone.

No controversy here. Though it was interesting how many journos ploughed into Adidas for persecuting the German company for dropping a client over his defence of Uighurs but failed to note that he’d been, you know, hanging out with a major human rights abuser himself.

Both situations are awful, but you can’t be a moral bellwether when fighting for rights of one group, whilst giving legitimacy to abuse with your fame on the other.

In less serious news…

There are some reports saying Arsenal will keep Auba if they can’t get more than £20m for him this summer. Not sure I believe that, but I do think that at a certain point, 30 goals guaranteed might be worth more than a really embarrassing transfer fee.

The only problem you face with someone heading into their 32nd year with under a year on the contract is that at the action end of the season the player starts to protect their body. They don’t give it their all. They stop playing 3 games a week. It’s natural, if they blow out and ankle, that’s a 5 year deal, gone.

Still, quite incredible that leadership at Arsenal said they’d never let players run down their deals again and here we are, 1 year after Aaron Ramsey left us for a free, 2 years after Sanchez forced his way out of Arsenal at a knockdown rate, and we’re sitting here with a £60m striker who could move on for a very small fee.

How does that happen? We seem to have gotten closer to doing a new deal with Emery than we did Auba.

Still, on the business side of things, if we can get a fee for him, and it’s good, we’d be better to sell than anchor ourselves into a mega-deal again. Someone like Odsonne Edouard might be a good replacement, maybe we have 35 goals between Eddie and Gabriel. I’m sure there’s a solve that could work.

Most important thing for Arsenal this summer is coming out of it with a midfield that is built for the league. Power, finesse, size, and fitness. Give me those things, or I shall be furious.

Let’s talk more tomorrow, stay safe my darlings. x

Unless tierney has been identified as a permacrock, I really doubt we would be interested in selling.

When we have no midfield, it seems odd that we’d be adding around selling a player who is (probably) not part of the problem then needing to replace him

I have a nasty feeling all this odd shit is gonna come to play. We’re gonna sell auba and tierney and spend money on their replacements then roll into next season no better off but still without a midfield!

Please take these fears away. I can’t take another season of this midfield lol

Up 4 grabs now

CG,

When Wenger left it had been 14 years without a league title.
No champions league final in 12.

We wasn’t even close in those years.

How many last sixteen exits in the champions league. How many title chases were done and dusted by December.

We were nowhere near winning or getting close to it.
That’s why he had to go.

Wengaball

Totally agree CG. A Top 4 + FA cup by Arteta would be hailed as a miracle. By the way I like Arteta.

Great things happen for love or for money. When you don’t have money, you keep the people who love you.

And there has been no greater lover of Arsenal than Arsene Wenger. No wonder he says he does not want to return to the club. He left broken hearted.

Gentlebris

So Timo Werner is off to Chelsea, and Ziyech before him. Both deal for £82m, £10m more than we paid for only Pepe. Wenger must be crying in his FIFA graveyard. These guys running Arsenal are professional fumblers, they are guys who should be taking orders, not giving them. They might just be average at the latter but total nut heads when left to make decisions. I was here at the time, daily saluting Zaha. That was our guy. He was born at a Prem big club, had been king in prem mid table club for years. He was our… Read more »

Wengaball, have you been reading too much Mills & Boon? (one for the oldies). No greater lover of Arsenal than Arsene Wenger? Lol, I expect the £150m+ in wages over his tenure had something to do with it too. What a load of trite nonsense, where were all the clubs queuing up to sign Wenger when he left our club? Nowhere to be seen as we all very well know. Great for the first decade, mediocre for the second one I’m afraid. What you people call ‘Wengerball’ was merely a lightweight pale imitation of Barca that failed. Time moves on,… Read more »

Bris, Chelsea are also linked to Leicester’s LB Chilwell, hence the linking of Tierney with the Foxes to replace him. Probably a case of 2+2=5 but knowing AFC you can never rule it out. My thought was if Chelsea want a left sided full/wing back the Saka would seem like an obvious option. Given their massive success in stealing Cole from us back in the day (another converted winger) it might make sense.

China1

Wengaball have you considered why it would be a big deal for Arteta to get top 4 and win an FA cup? Because we steadily declined. Under wenger. Lol. Emery made it worse, but the goalposts moved already on Wengers watch because he built increasingly poor teams For half of wengers reign he was coasting and doing the bare minimum and allowed us to slide to the extent that what used to be considered below our level and a failure would now be considered an achievement. It’s very simple If you are in great shape and running 5k every night,… Read more »

I have made consistently the case that Arsenal should bring in “selectively” a maximum of two or three new players rather than the wholesale changes that so many on here advocate. Most posters acknowledge that Arsenal has acquired too much dead wood and are paying them inflated wages. Most like Ozil are unsaleable or untransferable. So for this reason I would focus this summer on improving one department and that for me is midfield. The players on our books are at best top 10-12 level. By keeping Aubameyang we can evaluate the potential of our young forwards. If they make… Read more »

What I call Wengerball started with Johan Cruyff in the mid 70s, was back at the peak in 1988 when Netherlands walked the Euros with Gullit, Van Basten and Rijkaard, Koeman etc. and then was again visible in the Ajax of the mid-late 90s. All of them before Barca fully adopted it. As for money keeping Wenger at Arsenal, what’s to say if he would not have made the same or more money hopping from club to club? CG and Wengaball – of course it would be a fantastic result for Arteta to get us into the top 4 and win the FA Cup. That was not the case in the end for Wenger as he was in charge for 20 years and presided over massive decline for at least half of that time. Yes he was stymied by the Emirates move but largely it was his strategy that caused the decline – over-egging salaries of young never-will-BEPS like Denilson, Bendtner etc, use of too many small ineffective players, lack of interest in a defence and decent goalkeeper… Read more »

Our focus this season is to get the best possible results from our remaining games and not worry where we finish in the league.

What actually is interesting is the market has a down turn a little bit but not that much for big clubs. PSG with Icardi and Now Chelsea with Werner are going to be the bench mark now. I reckon we could sell Auba for 35 mil in this market the way it is going right now. I would absolutely sell him for that price and get partey making up the difference of 9 mil. China1,

Zaha’s problem is that he is the main man at CPFC. Everybody expect him to get them out of trouble.
At a bigger club the pressure will be less on him. Better players means that defenders would not be able to focus just on him.
Less defensive system (let’s be honest CPFC is a counter-attacking team) means that attacking players will have more opportunities not only to score but also to grow in more rounded team player rather than individual.

Freddie Ljungberg

That’s the whole point of not letting the manager be in full charge of signings. A manager will always look for the short term success and would rather have players that need little adaptation. That’s not always the best for the long term of the club though. Younger and higher potential trumps quick settling in most cases, especially in a rebuild.
