Brain Trust begs Stan for money

The summer is a time when internet heroes are made and destroyed.

‘IS HE LEGIT?”

‘NO WAY YOU SAID THIS IN 2019!’

‘GUY HAS AN AGENDA SMH’

Truth is, it’s incredibly hard to gain an accurate shake on transfer rumours because the stories are generated three ways.

Agents creating PR to make frantic scouts aware their players are available, or to instigate contract talks.

Clubs creating PR to shake up players and lower their price, to hawk interest in their own players, or deflect attention from what they are really doing with other deals.

TV, Press and Blog harvesting summer traffic. Le Grove numbers go through the roof in the summer, transfers are simply great fun… a mate of a mate… a rogue agent… a hopeful dream.

Then when transfers are real and actually happening, things can go south really quickly. So you might have had a nailed on story that falls apart and makes you look like a total wally.

It’s all a big mess, but the internet has made it more so because there wasn’t really that much of a market back in the day. Now you have millions of people partaking in the factory of information, so you have to tread very carefully to land the truth.

The Daily Mail is running with a story that the Arsenal Brain Trust is hassling Stan K for cash to push deals over the line this summer. This sort of information is golden, it’s elite dynamite that must have come from the very top… but it only gets 168 words?

Please… when I get good info, you get 2000 words here because if you’re doing PROPER journalism, the contact should give you the details that allow you to paint a vivid picture so it comes across as genuine in the media.

The guts of this story don’t add up to me. I think it’s pretty clear that the leadership of Ivan G lasted so long under Stan K because of one key attribute… he never, ever, went begging Stan for money. That must have been part of the deal, keep your mouth shut in the press, don’t harass on Whatsapp and don’t come crying for money every summer. Spend what you generate and not a penny more.

The idea that Raul and Vinnai are out there begging Stan for money is a touch absurd to me, especially so when the money they are asking for is to prop up a hugely inflated signing of a player that is 27 years old. We’re not out here trying to push Joao Felix over the line, we’re not begging for the chance to sign a player that could be worth £300m in 3 years time, we’re supposedly begging Stan to give us money to fund a player that’ll likely be worth far less in 3 years time than he is now. That is not good business when you are skint. Even Stan, with all his blindness to Arsenal, will understand the basic economics of this deal are risky and likely not worth it long term.

JUST AS A NOTE: I think Zaha would add a lot to our forward line. He’s a great player, powerful, skilful, a bit nasty… but be honest, who wouldn’t add more to our forward line than Iwobi? Zaha is a lazy next level for a club that talks about finding an edge with scouting, technology and youth.

Also, there is no way a club that’s been banging on about structure, the future and all these other bits could be in a situation a week out from preseason where they’re having to go back to their boss cap in hand. That would make them look highly incompetent, it’d make them look like they’ve not planned properly, it would damage their chances of progression long-term and the whole thing would have next to zero chances of success.

So in short, what I’m saying is this: Don’t believe everything you read.

The summer is playing out as we expected.

We are struggling to shift on our deadwood, in the main, because everyone knows we are desperate to move these players on. The prospective clubs buying are looking for a good deal and I’d imagine the players know that the lower the exit fee is, the higher their new salary will be.

We seem to be struggling to bring in players because we are fighting a chairman that has an inflated view of what Zaha is worth. He has to look strong in front of his fans after letting Wan-Bissaka go very early in his career, so he’ll make this like pulling teeth.

We’re also struggling because we don’t have a filled out structure at the club. Emery will be vying for power, choosing players is the ultimate control, we know he’s been scouting. Raul likes to get in the weeds with wheeler-dealer networks, so he’ll have ideas, despite not being a true footballing man. Edu will probably be CC’d into e-mails and have opinions. It’s a structural mess that probably has battling visions of what the future should look like.

Unai Emery is going to looking for players that can do the job now. The average age of his signings at Sevilla was a little over 27 years old, he targetted journeyman that the club could flip, what he’d get was hard work, grit and solid performances… that’s what he needs next season. He can’t fuck around with kids, he won’t care about bringing beauty to the field, he needs players that are going to drag the club to 4th.

Problem is, Raul and Stan K will know that this sort of approach to the game has a severe impact on what the football looks like. It stunts the growth of kids coming through the ranks. It carries high risk because older players make more money and then you can’t shift them if the idea fails.

We have just tried an expensive version of what Sevilla used to do very successfully and it failed. In fact, we are in season two of trying to buy our way to 4th.

I struggle to believe that Edu will be a technical director that wants to move in the Emery direction, but he’s not here, so we are where we are.

So there lies the challenge… a lack of vision, a lack of good people in the right jobs, clogged arteries in and out, and the slow cold of winter of reality settling in… we are a tier two club with tier 3 ideas of how to fix things.

What a miserable bastard I am… truly, I am so sorry you have to read this every day. x

P.S. Love Monreal, but the fact we’re giving him an extension tells you the trouble we’re in.

I also think we’re going about the Zaha thing in the right way. This idea of our bid being laughable is just an example of how ludicrous football has gotten and we seem to be one of those clubs taking a stand for once. Zaha is not worth 80-100 million at best he’s worth 45-50 million but more realistically he’s worth 30-40 million. Same with Tierney more Realistically speaking a club should be signing him for between 15-20 million.

The other day you got all snarky when I suggested Leicester will probably sign Tierney ahead of us. Brendan Rodgers knows him quite well having just managed him.
I suspect Celtic are delaying because they know Leicester are set to sell Chilwell this summer, Tierney to replace him. That’s the end game, they think Leicester will pay that £25 million

To answer your point, why are Arsenal fans, and commentators lapping up this story about the Arsenal hierarchy going to Kronke for money?

We’re an easy target… and it makes us look desperately weak… and well, desperate.

Glad the Emirates stadium has ushered in such a golden age of unbridled opportunity.

Your BFF Gazidas has a lot to answer for. Whatever did you ever see in him?!?

It’s not really about what is seen as a players valuation now unless that club obviously want to get rid of the player.

It’s about the club itself which player is at.

More than enough EPL clubs are sitting pretty in financial terms now in comparison to other eruropean clubs.

Which brings usonto Celtic who are not EPL rich by any means.

May mean as Dissenter implied that they are confident another club is going to come in and pay the 25m without too much fuss.

Kroenke doesn’t need to spend a penny.
He just needs to let them spend some of the cash being stashed away.
Liverpool declared 10 million as cash in hand in their last financial statement
https://d3j2s6hdd6a7rg.cloudfront.net/uploads/Annual_report_for_the_period_ended_31_May_2018.pdf. They too have debts of over 150 million. .

Arsenal FC does not need to carry that much cash in hand to run a very viable business.

Marko

Still pushing the Emery power grab angle. You’re going to look so foolish in a year when he’s gone and we have another manager in. Still be pissed when it’s not Arteta. Also the Emery signing players at Sevilla nonsense has to stop it’s not accurate. Monchi made the signings then and he’s doing it now. Even this summer he’s brought in a 26, 27 and a 28 year old in Carlos, Dabbur and De Jong. We’ll have to wait and see what the ages are of the players we do bring in this summer but I’m guessing that there… Read more »

Marko

The other day you got all snarky when I suggested Leicester will probably sign Tierney ahead of us.

Yeah because they have Chilwell. Chilwell who signed a new 6 year contract only mere months ago. Where’s he going to? There’s literally been nothing about Chilwell moving this summer that’s where my snark came from. I basically dismissed your unfounded opinion.

Receding Hairline

Has anyone bid for Chillwell??

Receding Hairline

“We have just tried an expensive version of what Sevilla used to do very successfully and it failed.”

How so??

We signed a 22 year old midfielder

A 10 year old midfielder

A 27 year old keeper set to be number one for at a few seasons

A 30 year old recommended by diamond eye

A 34 year old free transfer

Fail to see how we emulated Sevilla. Emery also had very little to do with those signings and still has very little to do with our present signings judging from the targets

Dissenter

I got a lot of condescending comments when I stated that Leicester city’s squad was better than ours. I realized that when we faced them when I glanced at their staring 11 and compared it with ours.
This summer they are set to sell two players, Chilwell and Maguire for well over £120 million. That’s a testimony to the depth of talent in their squad. The transfer value of their squad is a lot higher than ours too.

Receding Hairline

A 19 year old midfielder not 10 sorry, although Guen might as well be 10 the way he falls over

Marko

Chelsea have a transfer ban. Liverpool I would very much doubt being interested given how good Robertson’s been. Spurs maybe but they apparently want Sessegnon and haven’t gotten rid of Rose yet. City have brought back Angelino so that’s a big no. United maybe but again and it’s very important to realize this but there’s been no reports or rumors linking Chilwell with a move this summer. Oh and Fuchs signed on for one more season so don’t come at me with that angle

Receding Hairline

“The transfer value of their squad is a lot higher than ours too.”

the transfer value of any squad is higher than ours because most of the salaries are within reason.

Marko

Of all the people in the world of publishing, you think I’d look foolish if Emery was exited from the club?

Point taken. But still a little yeah considering he’s been consolidating his power all these months and then gets the chop. Doesn’t make sense does it. But it’s mostly the Emery signing journeymen at Sevilla stuff that I was commenting on. See it’s not true

Marc

Got to agree with Marko on the Emery power struggle line. He’s not Wenger with a direct line to Kroenke. Emery reports to Sanllehi, trying to usurp your boss is a really good way to get the sack – it certainly won’t get you a contract extension.

Words on a Blog

10 year old midfielders signed…..Project Youth gone mad??

Where are you getting the Chilwell stuff from? You using the same sources as Valentin now?

Receding Hairline

More like wishing it into reality so Rodgers goes for Tierney and what he predicted months ago comes to pass

Marko

Emery was given a 3 year contract with the option of dissolving after 2 (given his average at a club is like 2.5 years) and has no ties to the club anyone associated with the club or any of its players. It would be nothing short of miraculous for the head coach to grab any sort of power given the circumstances. In game of thrones terms it’d be akin to greyworm taking the iron throne by shagging one of the Freys

Marc

Pedro

Sorry mate I don’t agree with you on this one. Emery has to be careful otherwise he’ll be reminded on how he fucked up top 4. You can argue he hasn’t much to lose with a year left but that only works if he’s not that fussed about a contract extension. He’ll have players he likes the look of but I don’t think he’s in any position to be belligerent.

KAY Boss

ESPN? these media houses are using arsenal as the tasty meat on The market to sell their stories. We’re money making machines for them whether good or bad. We sell out when used. Tierney perhaps is a done deal. Brahimi perhaps might also be in the bag. Who we bring in in defencive midfield and can to complement Torreira when injured is important. So as the defence. Cesc Appeal

Yeah agree with Marc and Marko the whole Emery power struggle wants 30 year old Sevilla players things is a bit tired and lazy. The entire set up at Arsenal means he has no leverage really, this potentially is his last season legally, Sanllehi is a football man with massive experience, Edu is a football man about to arrive, we’ve added a loan manager as well…the amount of football voices at the club is huge and Sanllehi, Venkatesham and Edu are likely the ever present characters who will call the shots. I feel you ,but the GOT analogy was a bit too bizarre. Lol just kidding. Anyways even i dont think that this is a power struggle of any sort. There was a power struggle between Raul and Mislintat and Raul won it. He’s the boss now and is the one going aftet Zaha surely. If it was Emery we’d be linked with Banega,Nzonzi and whatnots.

Marko

Emery has a bigger voice at the table. Undeniable. Can’t be proven and makes no sense what table? He is the most senior football man. Undeniable. That’s not true. Raul. He will use that to push his agenda, and it’ll have more sway now than it did a year ago. What is his agenda? Marko

The Emery comments just feel like petty point scoring basically, baseless accusation to court negative feeling toward him.

You’re getting a ban. There’s just no way around it you madman

Words on a Blog

You gotta feel sympathy for Pedro with his “powerful Emery wants ageing has-beens” narrative.

Just as you gotta feel for the ESPN guy’s “Arsenal’s culture of mediocrity narrative” or even Maxwell’s “build the team around Ozil and da yoof” narrative.

In the absence of observable developments, a guy has to push his narratives, facts or no facts.

Marko

That story on Dick Law getting one over on Spurs is so cringe worthy when considering that they got a cheaper better alternative to Ozil in Erikson who is not only likely to fetch them a big fee but he’s not a complete hindrance to the club. Oh and Spurs were able to rebuild with the Bale money. But yeah one over them

Thomas

Emery sacked yet?

Ishola70

Spurs favourites to sign Ceballos.

But is he really an Eriksen replacement?

Ceballos really a CM player while Eriksen AM.

Arsenal also reported to be interested.

Very quick on the ball and is decent defensively as well as having the technique.

Xhaka replacement?

Would give so much more pace and mobility to Arsenal’s midfield than Xhaka as well as being better defensively. But he isn’t the tallest player so him and Torreira would look on the small side physically.

HighburyLegend

“and it makes us look desperately weak… and well, desperate.”

This is not the way we look like, it’s what we are.

Seriously

Monchi was in charge of transfers at Sevilla, everyone knew that

The two players Emery has been accused of foisting on PSG, one was a hot shot teenager from Madrid in Jesse and one was a highly rated DM in Gregory K. Not has beens in any way

Marko

I would have liked Cabellos but honestly that’s no excuse for us. He’s gone move onto Olmo or Pellegrini who are similar players. Or Palacios.

Marko

Marc Roca could also be a good shout

Cesc Appeal

I wonder if Pochettino will go for a 4-3-3 if he lands Ceballos as well?

One of Wanyama, Dier, Sissoko and then N’Dombele and Ceballos with Son, Kane, Moura in attack?

I’m just praying these Kroenke stories are true and he injects some cash into the club. Because we’re literally tackling a warehouse blaze with a Super Soaker right now.

Receding Hairline

Lampard dispenses with Zola

Now there is a power grab

Marko

Silver lining in Cabellos to Spurs means no Lo Celso. It would be hard watching a Spurs midfield with Ndombele and Lo Celso in it. It’d be arguably the best midfield in the league

Cesc Appeal

Wasn’t Monchi ‘sauce’ not long ago?

Receding Hairline

Cesc appeal i was just reading a report of the new Stoke manager telling 8 players not to bother reporting for preseason.

The names are Gianni Imbula, who Stoke paid £18.3m for just two years ago, Bojan, Kevin Wimmer, Geoff Cameron and Mame Biram Diouf, Moritz Bauer, Julien Ngoy and Erik Pieters all players who played for them in the prem.

I was left wondering if it was to be such a bad idea if we went that route with some of our players

Receding Hairline

Journey man??

Monchi spent years at Sevilla then moved to Roma, if we hired him it would have been his third club but he chose a return to Sevilla, so as of now he has just worked at two clubs.

Cesc Appeal

The years of telling people how bad Wenger was at his job, how badly this club was being run, that teams like Spurs would overtake us because we were incompetently run.

They’ve just signed £65 Million N’Dombele and are closing in on £35-40 Million Ceballos whilst we scrabble to put the money together for Tierney.

This a team we absolutely use to bitchslap and make fun of.

Said for years as well we’d be right, and when we were proved right there’d be absolutely no joy in it.

Here it is.

RH

The problem is if you did that to the players who deserved it at Arsenal you wouldn’t have enough players reporting to training for a 5-a-side!

Receding Hairline

And i do not think Sevilla was Emery at his best, he did achieve three consecutive top three finishes with Valencia, they have not repeated that feat till he left

He kept a nothing team like Almeria up and finished eight with them, they were relegated once he left

Hard to believe Ivan actually had supporters at one point.

Marko

It’s hard to know because I’m guessing it changes when they’re linked with signing for us under Emery. But I guess anything over 25 is considered a journeyman. Maybe Fekir is a journey man it could be 24. Shame because Ziyech is 26 and a brilliant footballer.

Marko

I said Emery is most successful when he’s using that model, he is now the lead football voice, that is a worry.

Specifically what model is that? We’re getting so close to the crux of the point. Emery is successful when working with older dependable players? When signing up journeymen?
Again I don’t agree with the lead football voice it’s like you’re totally dismissing the fact that he has a boss.

Kroenke should reach for his wallet but as we all know, however there are those who believe and are duped into this whole wenger created self sustaining BS

To stay competitive, you need investment. Plain and simple.

IF there is a way for him to supplement us, it should have been done a few years back.. now we are in critical times. Kroenke at fault big time. I hate those who let this man off the hook. He is the sole owner and needs to be in the firing line from now on.

“How does one explain the signings of Lichtsteiner, Sokratis, Mhiki and Auba?”

Arsenal made an all-in gamble at bouncing straight back into the CL money, planning to use the CL revenue to carry out the actual rebuild (i.e buy the young players to form the spine of the future).

We failed, so now we have to persevere with our old cohort with high wages and no sell-on value, and try and rebuild slowly, cleverly, and on the cheap.
