The article talks about transitions teams being developed… groups of people that move players from youth to the first team. This is Raul giving his take on it:
“Identifying, recruiting and developing young players is a key part of our strategy. We have some great talent coming through our younger age groups and, like all top clubs, the challenge is to help them make the most of their abilities.
“The hardest part is always the transition from academy football to senior football. We already have good programmes in place but these staff changes will ensure our plans are even more robust and clear for every single player. I’m confident it will make a significant difference to our ability to bring players through to the first team.”
It’s a bit jargony to me, but fuck it, I love the focus and the way they are communicating this vision to the fans. This all feels like Arsenal are trying to move from bullshit statements on regulatory miscalculations and pleasantries about class, to something a little more action oriented… i.e. don’t tell me we’re going to be a hub of youth, show me what you’re going an explain it.
I also like that we’re giving Sal Bibbo and Ben Knapper more freedom to express their ideas. Wenger had a lot of good people at the club, but it was his way or the highway. Autocratic leaders are horrible to work with, if there’s only one way and you can’t affect that without getting the chop, you get fat, lazy and you stop innovating. I think it’s smart of Raul to give opps to internal talent, and it’s super refreshing Emery isn’t being allowed to stock the club with more of his pals.
There’s a story running in one of the rags that states Emery will have the final say on Saliba because he doesn’t want to lose his summer budget on an 18-year-old. If all the above is real, I very much doubt Emery is going to rock the signing of an elite kid. I also doubt that Arsenal isn’t thinking about stocking the first team. Just feels like a story that’s been made up based on average sleuthing.
Anyway, the vision appears to have been doubled down with stories about Brazilian wonderkid, Martinelli, hitting the newsnow streams hard than Abou Diaby kicks John Terry in this face way back when. The 18-year-old is very quick, pretty tall at 5,11, and very youtube friendly.

Again the difference between a great team losing great players and an average team possibly losing a couple players is huge. Where is this great academy of Rennes that people are talking of? I can see Dembele, Doucoure and Bakayoko coming through and that’s about it. Sold for about 30 million hardly amazing stuff.
Toreirra is a concern alright and my gut tells me that he ultimately won’t kick on to great heights.
Having said that, he’s one of our better players and shouldn’t even consider being sold barring a stupid good offer until we burn all of the deadwood first.

I think there’s a big difference between Arsenal under Wenger and Arsenal now in the transfer market. Under him weeks and months waiting for signings you always knew it wouldn’t happen whereas now you can almost assume that we are actually working behind the scenes. I think this time last summer we had 2-3 already signed but I might be wrong

If I had to explain it… I think it’s because everyone knows how much this squad needs worked on now and any projects like that take time and money away from addressing those imbalances and its a strategy based on amazing scouting. Not been our strong suit. And as I said.. patience which is in short supply due to the pressure of the other teams in the PL. Sure if we can do both on our budget then great. Pedro does tend to think our squad is good enough as well.
Real Madrid have already signed Eder Militao, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo [Brazilian wonderkid] for €300 million and we’re fucking mid June haha.

Dissenter yeah one season is too early yeah. Sometimes it takes longer to get used to a new surrounding. Your idea of binning him and Mavropanos so soon is knee jerk and frankly doesn’t make sense given your stance on the manager. I personally wouldn’t bin our obvious best CM even if his form disappeared after Christmas. Sometimes players hit the ground running sometimes they need more time. Lacazette is an example of having a meh first season where he was only fits and bursts but was much better in his second season
Marc- Your asking for our fanbase to be reasonable.. basically.. is all. I was just explaining why it was getting the reaction it did.. . but I don’t think our fanbase is going to be ok with it if we have basically the same squad and 5 new hot prospects that can play in maybe 2 or 3 years … Saliba, Maurice, Martinelli etc.. We’re the 5th best club in the PL, there’s definitely clubs that would be interested. You make it out as if they’re relegation calibre players.
We sold a declined 29 year old Walcott to Everton for 20m, this after everyone saying that we were saddled with him for the foreseeable. Seem to remember us shifting on Giroud, Coquelin, Chamberlain, Gibbs, Gabriel, Szczesny, Toral as well.
And that was all within the space of half a season. Under AW ffs the king ditherer.

“Arsenal fans love a moan” This is so true. It’s ingrained into our psyche. Years of flattering to deceive and false promises has meant that we have little or no faith in anything related to AFC.
