Profile pic down, I repeat, profile pic down

by .

Apologies for the delayed posts, I’m on a shoot, at an airport… which is cool, because you are literally checked in so it’s easy to fly home.

Anyway, Arsenal?

BIG news is Auba has taken down his profile picture on Instagram. That’s news in this SICK world we live in. It’s clearly a purposeful thing because the guy has LOTS of great pictures of himself… so where is he going to go? It’d have to be somewhere with a desperate need of a striker and a lot of cash money. Unlikely to be Madrid after they just signed Jovic. So who?

Why don’t you make yourself useful and find out.

Yes, you.

Maybe it’s just a negotiating tactic… ‘PAY MORE OR I LEAVE MY PICTURE BLANK’

… chapter 4 in Art of the Deal if I remember correctly.

Legendary author Nick Hornby confirmed what I had heard about Aaron Ramsey, it was all on Emery, the player wanted to sign. By now, it’s an irrelevance, he’s gone, but you know… nothing like a little confirmation.

Kola is being chased down by Barca, those surging runs clearly attracting their interest. In a better setup, no doubt he’d have had far more assists this season. It seems the club are very keen to move him on. Hasn’t quite been the breakout hit we’d hoped for, but again, another confirmation that players we have in the squad aren’t utter shite.

News at the training ground has Freddie and Steve Bould switching jobs. Interesting the club aren’t firing our exlegendary centre back, not that I’d want that. Did Bould simply want more say on the team? Are the club being forceful about keeping Arsenal DNA in the ranks? It has certainly looked like Bouldy has the same passion for the manager as Ozil. Those blank stares he does when we drop another early goal are reminiscent of mine when I’m reading an Emery press conference on the .com.

I wonder what the swap out with Freddie is hoping to achieve? I’m not sure I buy the ‘he’ll help bring more young players through’… why would that be? If you’re saying Bould is bad with identifying youth player talent, would it be wise to send him to U23? This is weird, and again, if you have answers, share them.

Umtiti wants to see out his 4 years at Barca… which for me, sounds like good news. I really don’t want to be picking up players from Raul’s old club. That just wouldn’t be right. He’s likely very expensive, and he’s probably going to be a huge risk from an injury perspective moving forward… hence the reason they’re getting rid of a mid-twenties world-class defensive talent.

… and just to cap off a wonderfully positive post. BIG JEFF, the player we all thought would be an Arsenal god, binned by Emery for £4m last summer… is on the verge of a move to Monaco £22m. Notable that Lille, who are run by talent machine Luis Campos, are also in the running.

You literally couldn’t make up Arsenal summers.

See you in the comments. x

Hope the rumours are true on the exits (still torn about Auba – he’ll give you goals but miss absolute sitters).
Emery is a bland coach but can it get worse than what we had with Wenger’s last season?

Don’t mind Auba leaving for silly money..if we get £100m for him, I say take it.

Not giving Ramsey an Ozil like contract is a good thing and if Ramsey was so keen to sign new contract, what was stopping him? It takes a minute or two to sign contract while posing for a few photos but apparently Ramsey was too busy with other things.

Why didn’t Gazidis sell Ramsey eighteen months ago when he was stalling on signing new contract?

Nelson

I don’t know whether aggressivity is a character that can taught in the training ground. Our players are not aggressive enough. This is important if we want to execute the high press efficiently.
I don’t agree with Emery playing first team regulars in Europa League and League Cup games. His idea of no game is too small for anyone, every game is important is bad for EPL. I would rather keep the first team regular fresh and do the high pressing in the EPL games only.

I’m hearing that Mustafi Xhaka and Mhki have also followed the Wakandan Batmans lead. Although a mate told me it might have something to do with our kit switchover from Puma to Adidas.

From your lips to God’s ears, Guns of SF. Getting rid of Ozil would be as exciting as when it was announced Wenger was retiring last year.

Marko

U really don’t want to be picking up players from Raul’s old club. That just wouldn’t be right

Yep. I also wouldn’t want to touch any player from serial title winners Barcelona. No way. Also the Jeff stuff is gas that lad was a meme by the end of his time here. No great loss. Hopefully we have a percentage on a future sale though

Receding Hairline

Jeff Rene never looked like a serious player here, always appeared too laid back and eager to showboat.

Good for him though if he has turned his career around in ligue 1.

James Simmonds

@Vintage Gun, i heard the same as you with the puma adidas change over. When the new kit is launched (i can’t wait to het my hands on the new home strip) they will repost new pics. Also seems like the most plausible reason. Gazidis is a toss pot he gave Ozil a massive contact cause he ballsed up Rambo and Sanchez’s contract. The best bit of business we did this year was letting that shrivelled up bollock head run to Milan with his tail between his legs. He messed our club up no one else as much. As I’d… Read more »

I wouldn’t mind a dembele from Barca or a Coutinho in midfield.

This new found aversion to any player remotely related to Emery or Raul’s past clubs is funny if you consider the fact Sven left us with Sokratis and Auba. Would have added Perisic if he had his way, all players he scouted before for BVB.

Siddharth14

Pedro, for your own sanity please let go of Ramsey !

As for the profile pics, I’m pretty sure that this is about the coming kit change. No chance we have managed to broker sales of Mikki, Auba, Xhaka and Mustafa.

On the contrary, I see all these players staying if we would read anything from this.

Vintage Gun

I agree Marko. THE JEFF leaving us was no biggie to me. He was a sick note during his short time here and although he clearly had potential i didn’t see too many of us up in arms over his sale and it’s not like he was banging on the 1st team door with a rammer.

Just hope we inserted a healthy sell-on clause…

Pierre

One might say it was a bad error of judgement by our manager to let Jeff reine Adelaide leave for 4 million and in less than a year Monaco may sign him for 22 mil .

That’s a loss of 18 million English pounds for Arsenal football club which equates to
£ 350,000 a week 😇.

James Simmonds

He would have had to actually play 1st team football for a season for his value to shoot up. We were never going to give him that exposure so we couldn’t sell for a high price

James Simmonds

Look at sancho, 7.5m to Dortmund a season of 1st team football bang 100m valuation

Valentin

Reading Jeff interview, it seems that Emery had made his decision before he even got a chance to change his mind.

https://www.goal.com/en-ph/news/emery-told-me-i-wasnt-needed-at-arsenal-reine-adelaide/1wazn6pop289j1bnk39iq0dvyo

Sounds exactly like the kind of players we could have make use this season. Cultured, good passer but who does not forget his defensive duty.

Again like he did with Ramsey, Emery rushed to judgement on a player and it looks he got it wrong. If the Jeff was so bad, there is no way his value should shoot up by 18 millions in one year.

Marko

Shock horror, Marko sees sense in hiring in an injury prone 25-year-old Barca are desperate to offload. I wasn’t specifically talking about Umtiti I was more referencing your ridiculous point about not signing players from Barcelona because Raul used to work there. Pretty embarrassing considering how successful Barcelona have been for a number of years. I wouldn’t mind Umtiti if his price is reasonable he’s a top class defender. Your dismissing of him as injury prone and crying foul that we didn’t give Ramsey a new deal is hilarious btw. FYI Ramsey has missed 122 games injured in his career… Read more »

When the buying club is Angers you can’t really hope for more than 4m and says a lot about the players rating.

Hudson-odoi was an unknown to most non chelsea fans when Bayern bid 35m.

James Simmonds

Valentin, Ramsey’s agent was asking for 300k a week he does get injured hell of a lot and we still have Ozil. Juve have paid him 10m signing on fee 400k a week how can we compete with that.

Marko

Watch the usual types throw their skirts over their heads at the thought of the Jeff leaving but make excuses for you know who in regards to Gnabry.

Receding Hairline

Today is the Jeff day I see.

How about the kid that left for 7.5m now valued at 100m, was there a rush in judgement there today.

Can’t remember any stand out performances by Adelaide when he did get chances with the first team.

Sven brought in two young midfielders, Torreirra and Matteo, someone had to leave. If Monaco knew he was that good they could have saved 18m themselves.

KAY Boss

Ramsay left Arsenal for a bigger wage and more chance of winning big cup. Ramsay leaving had nothing to do with Emery and this nonsense about not fancying him. Fans will always try and especially in Arsenal’s case to find excuses and scapegoats when Arsenal’s better players leave the club. Add in the dislike of some for Emery and you have the double whammy. The writing was already on the wall regarding Ramsay when he entered last season still not signing an extension. Hindsight is a great thing regarding young players.

They can’t all play and when they do get regular games at a decent level somewhere else this is where they can develop and improve to the values that are spoken of.

Perhaps the club could be more savvy with loans/buy back clauses etc.

Jamie

Seems like some folk here gorge themselves on newsnow clickbait trash, then disseminate it here like they have some kind of inside scoop.

“See, I was right about this player. Look at this article from the Metro penned by some unknown hack confirming what I’ve been saying all along.” Embarrassing.

Jeff RA was, and is pony. 3 goals this season in 35 appearances at Angers. 1 goal in 8 appearances the preceding season for the under 23s. He’s worth 22 million like Guendouzi is worth £75m.

Marko

Jeff’s 6 month loan to Angers that prompted them to sign him was really lackluster. At the time 4 million looked fine for a player who was unconvincing. He only really exploded onto the scene this season. Fair play to the lad but no big miss for me.

Pierre

“Ramsay leaving had nothing to do with Emery ”

Keep saying it enough times Ishola and you may start believing it ..

I’m looking forward to the Ramsey interview when they ask him the 64,000 dollar question ….and he answers….. Emery of course !

James.wood

Arsenal made another massive mistake with Jeff Adelaide.
Under used.
People should remember his games in the Emirates cup 2015
especially against Wolfsburg he was exceptional in that tournament.
Arsenal can not see potential in younger players and rarely give them enough
game time anyway.

TR7

Not hindsight, Wallace and I were big fans of Adelaide’s talent. One of the rare young players in recent years who really looked special. Although I wouldn’t blame anyone for letting him go as he was physically too lightweight to stamp his authority in a game. We should still have put a buy back clause in his contract.

Ishola70

Talk rot Pierre.

This is a player who has never won a league title and miles away from winning a CL at Arsenal.

He’s left for Juventus to get a league title, more chance of winning CL but not sure he will achieve that one but he has a damn sight more chance of doing that there than at Arsenal.

Oh and let’s not forget the bigger wage for him at Juventus.

No brainer for Ramsay.

Chris

TR7

I hope we get better at putting clauses like that into deals for young players. You often see it with teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid. I wonder how many Chelsea have with all the young players they have moved on.

It is also hard to lay the whole of the blame at Emeru’s door (even though the usual suspects here will, they probably blame him for the Irish potato famine) as if Reine-Adelaide showed that much potential in 2015 you have to wonder why he wasn’t given more of an opportunity in the years preceding by Arsène.

Ishola70

Why wait for Ramsay to speak Pierre.

You have already had confirmation from the Wengerite Nick Hornby.

Jamie

Many on here were desperate for Malcolm before he joined Barca

What’s wrong with Malcolm?

Ishola70

Really some people’s heads are in the clouds.

Arsenal only have two players at this time that bigger clubs may want.

Ramsay at the start of last season was a third.

We have seen Arsenal’s better players leave the club time and time again.

Auba and Laca would have done exactly the same in Ramsay’s situation,

Marko

I’m looking forward to the Ramsey interview when they ask him the 64,000 dollar question

I wonder if someone will ever ask him if he truly wanted to stay then how come he never signed any of the previous contract offers that were put forward. A simple why did you run down your contract when you so clearly wanted to stay should be enough.

TR7

Not qualifying for CL through league/Europa has expectedly derailed our transfer plans. Little money and no lure of CL combined with an ever spiralling wage bill has hamstrung our ability to sign good players. No wonder we are being linked with average players who if signed won’t help us get back in to top 4.

Bamford10

Test.

Ishola70

Marko

“I wonder if someone will ever ask him if he truly wanted to stay then how come he never signed any of the previous contract offers that were put forward. A simple why did you run down your contract when you so clearly wanted to stay should be enough.”

He was turning down contract offers even before Emery came on the scene.

The situation with Ramsay was done and dusted even before Emery walked through the Arsenal door.

Marko

This is why you annoy people.

Hey I’m only replying to your ridiculous comment which reads and I quote “I really don’t want to be picking up players from Raul’s old club. That just wouldn’t be right”. It’s kind of ludicrous given that it’s Barcelona and they have a supremely talented and successful squad.

Cork City Gooner

Jeff Reine Adelaide was too weak for England and Ramsey wanted crazy money. You said it yourself pedro,Ramsey is only fit for half the season and we cant keep rewarding injury prone players with mega deals.

Receding Hairline

Jamie

Pete –

Bloody hell, half his wages? I thought that was nonsense. What a fucking mess.

I think Xhaka has more of a chance of being an asset under a specific system than Mustafi. His lapses in concentration are unforgivable at this point and lead to far too many critical errors. Under a defensively-minded coach, though, anything is possible I guess.

No chat on Mkhi?

Marko

The backtracking is going to be funny to behold when Umtiti ends up at PSG or Juve while we’re witnessing Anderson and Sokratis in our defence. Granted I’ve always preferred Konate or Upamecano but I wouldn’t dismiss Umtiti as a signing.

Pedro Malcolm was highly sought after before his move to Barcelona. One can accuse Valverede of failing to use him properly same way many do our coach for some of our players.

We don’t have a winger and Malcolm is still very much a good player.

Bamford10

Reine-Adelaide never did anything at Arsenal to make anyone here think he was a must-keep young player, Monaco may be over-rating and over-valuing him, and Ligue 1 is a very different proposition than the PL.

Can’t believe Pedro’s still buying the “Ramsey wanted to stay” line. He employs a highly paid agent to do the legal work all he has to do is sign the fucking thing. The contract was on the table for weeks, he was always looking for the big money move abroad – we just should have dealt with it 2 years ago.

Ishola70

“do you need someone to explain how contract negotiations work?”

Pedro what would you have done in Ramsay’s situation?

What have other Arsenal players done in the same situation as Ramsay in the past?

There is a pattern here.

Marko

is almost as predictable as you going into denial when Emery took the blame for injuring Ramsey.

Oh yeah that thing you said that you weren’t able to prove. And you like the stereotypical flat earther were met with facts that you completely ignored. Fair play lad. So it’s don’t sign anyone from Barcelona unless it’s Messi and player who ran down his contract wanted to actually stay. This place is great sometimes. It’s like where logic and facts come to die or be totally ignored

Bamford10

Pedro “when Emery took the blame for injuring Ramsey” Except that he didn’t “take the blame” for injuring Ramsey. This is a misrepresentation of what Emery said and of what occurred. What Emery said happened is this: Emery told Ramsey he thought he should sit out a game or two in order to reduce his risk of injury; Ramsey said he felt great and wanted to play. Emery played him. Now, you can blame Emery for not telling Ramsey, “sorry, Aaron, I know you want to play and feel good to play, but I’m going to keep you out in… Read more »

Ishola70

As well as Ramsay going to win a league title and better chance of winning CL as well as a bigger wage it would have probably been the case as well that Arsenal just couldn’t afford yet another real big wage earner at the club at this time.

All these reasons seem pretty reasonable and quite likely.

But let’s go for the Emery didn’t like him angle. That’s obviously the most likely of all the scenarios isn’t it.

mysticleaves

Monaco bought a 16 year old from Italy for about £25m or more. It’s been 3 years now. how far?

Rene can go for 22m, good for him. Doesn’t mean he’s worth it or will be worth it. He has talent though and wouldn’t have minded him at Arsenal still, if we had a plan for him.

Graham62

It’s really quite amazing how some posters on here are only now highlighting Arsenal’s failings and fall from grace.

It’s as if they’ve woken from a coma and it’s suddenly dawned on them that the club is not what it was.

The really sad part about it is that seem to enjoy it all.

Just a pity the penny didn’t drop sooner.

mysticleaves

“Now, you can blame Emery for not telling Ramsey, “sorry, Aaron, I know you want to play and feel good to play, but I’m going to keep you out in order to be safe,”

If Emery rested Ramsey for that match he still would have picked up an injury and it’s a fact his career so far agrees with.

Moreover why talk of resting a player to “reduce his risk of injury” when said player had barely played in the season!? Even if it was Emery that pulled the plug I praise him for that

Graham62

Ramsey has gone.

Thanks for everything Aaron but you know it’s for the best.

Pedro made his name and fame in the Arsenal blogsphere by attacking Arsenal manager Wenger. For 8 to 10 years it was his forte. Sometimes (especially in the early years) there was no objectivity in his posts. In hindsight Wenger lost it and did the things Pedro had written then, but it was what was expected–a gradual decline. So he came correct. Same thing is at play now. Frankly there’s no objectivity in attacking Emery the way he’s doing it. But he can’t change, like Arsene Wenger, he’s so stuck in his ways. I’m speculating here, but I suspect Ramsey would’ve signed an extension that would’ve given him parity (or close) with Ozil’s wages.

He’s probably gotten twice from Juve what he was being offered to stay at Arsenal. No-brainer from Ramsey’s side. Plus a league winners medal for him next season is academic at this point.

Top banter if Ramsey shows up in Turin for preseason only to be greeted by Wenger. “Ciao, Aaron. Here we will play with full mental strength and no handbrakes.”

Graham62

I would say every single player who left the club over the past 15 years made the right decision.

Aaron Ramsey being one of them.

mysticleaves

Guendouzi doubled (not sure) Ramsey’s minutes this season. I wonder how many times he picked am injury.

Off my head am not sure Ramsey completed 11 90 minute matches this season. It boils down to what am saying. Emery might have “overplayed” Ramsey because he’s injury prone not cos he played 60 90minute matches

Ishola70

Emery rather than hating on Ramsey from the off was probably disappointed that he walked into a club where one of the better players had already decided to leave or was well on his way. Once the player becomes signed to another team during a season then it has happened elsewhere as well that the player is not run into the ground and especially a player with Ramsey’s injury record. Also Emery may have been sending out a message in not using him as much as was wished simply because he is seen as not fully on board anymore in… Read more »

Emery stated when he first walked into Arsenal that he thought Ramsey was a very good player and he wanted Ramsey to be the main figure in the side.

God forbid if that was Emery making a late forlorn attempt to try to persuade Ramsey to stay.

Was never going to happen though. Ramsey was on his way before Emery entered.

TR7

Letting go of Ramsey was a good decision by Emery. I don’t think he would have signed for anything less than 200K/week. Given he is injured half the season, effectively we would have been paying him 400K/week, that’s too much for a slightly above average player.

mysticleaves

pick and choose. At the time of banging Wenger out, there was no objectivity. Now you are banging Emery out there’s no objective.

You (have) failed to see many external factors that hinder(ed) the progress of both these managers when you started your calls.

We didn’t just change a manager. We changed a set up. A complete system. All you called for during Arsene’s last year but in your head you just flip a switch and everything comes to perfection from the off? No matter the factors? pfft

The reason why the Ramsey debate WILL NEVER end is because it’s about our managers judgement.
