Fit people can’t game + Matty G styling tips + Emery on injuries

by .

Sometimes, people say to me, ‘Pedro, you have great sensibilities in understanding physiological circumstances when it comes to diagnosis of player ailments.’ Need proof? Well, BILD took the Le Grove commentary on Fortnite playing to the next level

“Yes, that can be the cause of Ozil’s back problems,”

“A competitive athlete feels the consequences of hours of inactivity much faster than a non-athlete.

“This is because Ozil’s physical structures are highly tuned due to his intense training.

“A non-athlete, however, does not notice that.”

So, if you’re a fat c*nt, excessive gaming is not an issue… but if you’re a highly-tune athlete, maybe. Rent-a-quote isn’t always the best place to get your information, but it has been interesting reading around about this issue. There have been issues in MLB over here, with one player having to miss a game because of carpal tunnel syndrome. It’s also notable that China is taking note of the issue, looking to crack down on tech firms that use ever-smarter ways to keep people hooked into their games.

What is astounding about this whole story is how the media works. What started out as a tongue in cheek joke is now being re-reported as Bild’s story on a Russian propaganda website. Unreal times we live in.

Anyway, a touch alarming the German is still out of action. Hopefully whatever the issue, it’s resolved in good time.

In other sadder news, Raheem Sterling was racially abused by a bunch of Stone Island thugs at the Chelsea game over the weekend. A lot of soul searching has to be done over this bullshit rearing its ugly head again. Sterling dug out the media for their part in this. That’s certainly true to a certain degree. But I think you also have to give some of the blame to politicians who’ve lost all sense of decorum and the corrosive nature of social media, giving rise to fringe idiots.

It’s incredible that in the space of a week, we’ve seen vile fan abuse at one of the biggest Premier League showcases in the world, and a banana thrown at an Arsenal player.

I don’t want to tell people what to do in the grounds, but if you’re there, and you hear someone shouting racist remarks, it’s up to you to speak up. Don’t giggle along. We’re all responsible for enabling that sort of bollocks. If you can get punched in the face for calling Arsene Wenger a balloon head, you should get an ear full for taking player abuse too far.

This is a photo of Matty G looking fine for Canal+. There was some debate had online about his choices, but for me, he’s looking exceptional here. The light pattern shows off a penchant for understated flair, I like the crisp white shirt and his decision not to wear a bow tie, and finally, I’m very much into the choice of what looks like a vintage Rolex.

The kid has it all.

Unai Emery has responded to concerns of the site over the growing injury list and whether his intense training methods are to blame.

“No. I don’t know if this is the reason. Big injuries like with Rob and Welbeck is…

“Then it is normal. We have played three matches.

“Mustafi is ok. It’s only because he is feeling muscular [that he came off], but [it’s] not a break.”

Weirdly, it’s great news that whatever happened to Mustafi is not that important. Hopefully, we’ll have a solid December and keep the injury issues down to a minimum. We don’t have a particularly deep squad and we really are going to need to lean into hard if we’re planning on competing with an extremely competitive top 6 this season.

I still can’t get over how good our start has been, and how poor our league position is. We’re 8 points off the top and unbeaten in 21 games. Staggering. If we’re thinking pragmatically, it’s going to still be extremely difficult for us to break the top 4 this season. Perhaps Europa is our best bet for getting back to the Champions League?

If we do get there, we’re going to have to spend big to improve the squad, because at the minute, we’re getting by on having a really easy Europa League group to play against. Getting back into the big time and having to play an elite 11 6 extra times before the December crunch is going to be tough to master after 2 seasons in the wilderness.

Right, that’s all I have for you beautiful festive people. See you in the comments.

Identify these So called Chelsea supporters and sentence them.?
Ban them from the club for life.?
Post their identities in the press putting their jobs at risk.?

And ask why they have done this when Chelsea have Black and Ethnic

Hypocrites of the highest order.

Aaarrrgh!! I just listened Emery speak for the first time yesterday (When he was quizzed on why Ozil wasn’t starting vs Spurs), and I have to say that he better speed up on that English.. it was painful to hear. lol. But so long he keeps making us all happy who cares..

I can’t believe how many gilt-edge chances Auba has missed this season alone. I have gradually warmed up to him since he has improved his overall game the last 3 games but mans gotta stop missing those chances for crying out loud

“Stone island thug”. This did make me chuckle.

There are a few things that always miffed me about Stone Island.

1. They are an Italian brand. I thought they would have been made in a garage in Hastings.
2. They are really expensive but look like cheap bits of crap.
3. People who go to football wear it.

The race thing is just a bit passé these days…also, doing it on camera is just plain dumb (hasn’t this guy heard of the anonymity of online abuse)?

Why is there always somebody else to blame. They are adults. They made the choice to hurl abuse at Sterling. They are the ones to be held to account – not the media or politicians.

This is the first season in PL history where 5 clubs have been achieving their potential (broadly speaking – and at least so far) In every other season 2 of the top 6 will be complete wank. One or two will be meh and whoever is left wins the league impressively This year is different tho. City are hands down the best team but you only get 3 points for smashing teams in style, the same as you get for solid or less than stellar wins – and the top 5 have all been very effective winning machines this season… Read more »

Re the iwobi debate His form has dropped off after a very good start to the season I’m not sure if this is just his ceiling we’re seeing or if emery can get more out of him – but what we’re seeing right now isn’t enough. We have a major lack of squad depth tho and until we buy an elite winger he absolutely should be in and around the first team as he offers something useful and different to what we have in terms of pace, running and work rate My feeling is if he can’t improve, he’s ok… Read more »

Also if inter will offer 25m for ozil YES FUCKING PLEASE

Receding Hairline

I do not think Emery can get much more out of Iwobi, i can now see what Bamford is saying, he just lacks quality and you cannot teach that

China1

The Utd game was a huge moment for Guendouzi He showed up and made a major difference to our game in the engine room of the team at Old Trafford. If he can play like this regularly then he is the absolute future alongside torreira He needs to add consistency to his game and also cut the number of mistakes he makes but there has been some progress on this front. I normally don’t hype young players too early and it is too early for him so far but the signs are there and I would absolutely love it if… Read more »

Gued and Torrier, if we can hold on to them, will be the dominant middle two in the premier league for years.

We need a lot more like them to get this team into a winning team.

China1

Well at least if we can’t hold on to either of them we should be able to make an insane profit on them

If torreira plays this way consistently for 18 months he will be a 100m player

Guen cost less than the change emery found down the sofa so as disappointing as it would be to lose him if he fulfills his potential, we’ll make an insane profit at least

Receding Hairline

Well having players teams would pay insane amounts for makes a pleasant change from having players no one wants but we can’t get rid of because we pay them too much

China1

I couldn’t catch the game on Saturday, I heard torreira, guen and xhaka all played. Can anyone tell me what shape we’re they in and to what extend did that work?

Bamford10

Cheers, Receding. Agree that this is Iwobi’s ceiling.

Bamford10

If we can sell Ozil for £25m, we should do so. He doesn’t contribute enough and we’d gain not just the £25m but an additional £350k a week. That’s 3-4 good players’ salaries.

It does raise the question, though, of who our first-choice CAM is and who he would be if Ozil were sold.

Leedsgunner

If Torreira’s form keeps up… Real Madrid and Barcelona will commence Operation “Tap up another Arsenal player.” They always do.

Hopefully next season we’ll be back in the CL so we can tell them where to go and how to get there.

Bamford10

China In the first half we played a 3-5-2 with those three as the three CMs. Xhaka was the one holding/deep-lying CM with both Torreira and Guendouzi in front of him. Aubameyang and Lacazette played more or less a flat two up top. This didn’t work all that well on the attacking side of things as we didn’t really have a proper CAM to find Auba or Laca’s feet or to find them in space. At halftime Emery switched to 4-3-2-1, brought in Mkhitaryan and Iwobi to play underneath Aubameyang and left the three CMs as they were. This worked… Read more »

Regarding iwobi’s ceiling I think we can conclude this one way or the other at the end of the season

He’s gonna get a lot of chances to play before then and plenty of time with emery. If there’s no real improvement then that’s probably that. He might surprise us tho. I hope so

Don’t infer that Arsenal is an antisemitic club as you posted above.

There are plenty of Jewish Supporters at the club and more importantly both
Danny Fiszman and David Dein two of the club’s most influential directors in the past were Jewish.

Spurs have been tarred with the same brush as Ajax in Holland as a Jewish Club, but in reality both clubs Jewish support is very much a minority.

China1

Cheers Bamford. That 3 man midfield worth sticking with based on what you saw?

Bamford10

China

Further, I think most would say that all three CMs played fairly well in their assigned roles. Many would likely single out Torreira for special praise. I would agree with all of that except that I would add that none of these three offered what a CAM type player offers and that if we’re going to play with three CMs, one should be more of a CAM type. IMO.

Drey

Also agree that this is Iwobi’s ceiling..
He tries but ultimately you can’t do more than your ability

HighburyLegend

“If Torreira’s form keeps up… Real Madrid and Barcelona will commence Operation ”

Let’s hire an hypnotiseur to convince them to buy Ozil instead.

Bamford10

China I think they formed a solid midfield three, but as I say above, we lacked a CAM type player and that hindered us a little, IMO. This problem was solved in the second half somewhat by deploying Iwobi and Mkhitaryan in advanced roles underneath Aubameyang, but I don’t know if that is the optimal solution. Someone here complained after the game that it makes no sense to play “three holding mids” in the center and I think that I basically agree with that, though I think Emery was doing this somewhat out of necessity and somewhat to see how… Read more »

Bamford 10 That was a fair summary of the situation on Saturday. Lacazette spent a lot of the first half tracking back, because of lack of service and both Bellerin and Kolasinac did not spend much time in first half in the Huddersfield end of the pitch. My personal view despite all the usual negatives from posters is that Ozil does make a difference when he plays and provides the best service to our forwards. Would Torreira not fetch 50m, Matty G 30m in the buoyant PL market? That’s 40m+ in 6mo!

I find that Auba is most dangerous when playing with winger or wing back. That’s why he wishes Arsenal to get him Ousmane Dembele. He is not someone who likes to interplay with a #10. Up to now, our best attacking plays came from the wing backs. I am sure that Auba will find his form and finish up those crosses. I think we should continue to attack though the wing and forget about through the middle.

£25m for Ozil would be mental.

I doubt if anyone here has thought of Iwobi as anything more than a squad player. Sometimes, you need the Fletchers and Parks in your team to win you trophies.

That is what Iwobi should be: a squad player who gets the odd start against bottom teams during periods like this when the games come thick and fast.

Iwobi thinks he has made it. The earlier praise he got in the season has gotten into his head so he’s trying to do more than his ability.

I hope two players are bought in January (Winger and CAM) so Iwobi doesn’t make the match day squad anymore.

Mysticleaves

I think it’s imperative that we get a lateral, on-the-ball player. Some with the attributes of KDB or Almiron. Capable of running the ge and creating through the middle. Basically a central winger if you like. That’s what this team is lacking.

We already have 3 very good deep lying playmakers in the squad. If we are going to get an extra CM, they have to be attacking and lateral. Also get that winger. Right now I can’t look past Pepe.

Nelson

A lot of people are saying that we are wining without playing good football. I have come to realize that this is the type of football that Emery wants. He prefers hardworking players than skill players (Our financial constraint would allow us to sign superstars). Iwobi is Emery’s type player. Until we can get into the champion league and can compete in the transfer market, our hope will be on the scouts to pick out players that suit Emery’s style of football. Wenger ball is gone forever.
