Xhaka shows off his eagle + golden ref comment on new defender

Our two Swiss boys had a good day at the office. Xhaka banged home a screamer from range on 55 minutes to give Switzerland 3 vital points. He celebrated with an eagle sign, a big fuck you to the Serbians, FIFA no doubt going to step in to punish him because they’re super hot on anything unless it’s proper racism. A bit of gentle goading about some genocide back in the day is sure to garner a ten game ban.

Lichtsteiner played his part, barking orders from the sidelines. I found this piece from a Swedish ref Jonas Eriksson on our new signing.

‘I have met several international players and to judge a person you have to meet them several times – and not just once when they have a bad day because everyone can have it. But I have met Lichtsteiner several times, and he is one of the most unpleasant players I met.’

PERFECT. Get me some of that unpleasantness in our side. Not because I like mean players, more because we’re a soft touch with refs in general.

There are some reports that we’re chasing Russian superstar Golovin. The 22-year-old has been impressive this year; we felt his talent first hand in the Europa League. Juve are favourites, but his current employers are pushing for £25m. He looks a player, can’t believe Everton aren’t chasing him down, looks like an Usmanov centrepiece.

In coaching news, Le Grove favourite Julian Nagelsmann shocked the world when he announced he’ll be joining Redbull Leipzig next season. It’s an odd move when you consider Bayern were very interested in his talents, but from a learning perspective, it’s really smart. He’ll get to work with Ralph Rangnick, who is a bit of a management idol from a mentor perspective. He’ll also have money to support him, a smart scouting network, and he’ll be able to raise a family with his lady.

The big transfer chases going off at the moment for Arsenal centre around Soyuncu. The Freiburg centre-back is going to wait until July to decide where he goes next. Then there’s Banega, who met with Gazidis this week. The Argentine, who has been missed this World Cup seems to be playing games. He’s working out his second stint at Sevilla, and he was upset that Sporting Director Oscar Aries left the club. Seems to me like he’s either looking for more money there or more money with us. So we’ll see how this pans out.

There’s a bit of chatter about Petr Cech heading over to Napoli. I wrote yesterday that we’d pushed our wage bill up a lot so far this year. He’d be a good one to ship off the list. Who wouldn’t want to retire to Italy?

Also, I missed off Per Mertesacker and Santi Cazorla off the out list yesterday. I didn’t do it on purpose. I promise.

Finally, there’s a great write up about Raheem Sterling, by Raheem Sterling on the Players Tribune. It’s rightly being received very well because now people are looking at this guy like a human. Every year, fans of football clubs grow a little. This summer, it seems we’re not about the nasty attacks the press perpetrate on our players. They’re our boys; we’re here to the support the, and the fans will control the narrative. It’s a breath of fresh air.

Tapping out early, but tune in at 4ish tomorrow because I’ll be on Love Sport Radio chatting about our amazing summer.

SPEAK THEN. x

It’s pointless Argentina qualifying to next round because France will knock them out.

Ospina soldiering on despite serious atrocities inflicted upon his body.

Ospina proving he’s No 1 keeper.

Ospina better than Cech.

You have just made Red proud there! 😉

Carts

I can’t be the only one making bread off of these over 2.5 goals?

UTarse

Quintero is a quality player, who does he play for ?

Upson: “We’re controlling the tempo”

There is no tempo, you fuckin clown lol

Second he said that I knew he’s been taking the piss this whole time about Ospina

Legendary,

Thought I’d reward Red for all his toils for Ospina 🙂

I think he deserves it. He has been very consistent about it.

Possible caveat. Bernd Leno will become Arsenals’ no. 1 keeper. …. Red?

Ospina is injured every time he has to touch the ball. I hate this about him… it is just baffling.
This man is starved for attention and has the lowest pain threshold I know of

Jamie

Agree with Guns; I’ve never seen a keeper receive as much treatment on the pitch from the physios as Opsina receives. Virtually every 3rd save he makes, he goes down like a sack of shit and starts signalling to the bench. Crazy.

THIS IS TOO TRUE

Mina, the scorer of the first Colombian goal might be available if Barça decide that they don’t have room for him in their squad.

Get on it Sven and Raul!

Quintero is on Porto’s books on loan at River Plate according to transfermarkt.

Ndombele has not done anything to prove he should be targeted by Arsenal when we have Maitland-Niles. Both 21 and 20 respectively. If AMN was with Lyon he would have played the whole last seaosn and posters like Marko would be calling for us to sign him

TitsMcGee

It’s always funny watching people being unable to be objective. Kane is a very good player and I’d take him in a heartbeat.

Regarding England very good showing so far I think. In fairness should have bagged a couple of more goals vs Tunisia in the first game as well. The real competition starts now as Belgium next and depending on how things go looks like Colombia after that.

Carts

Agreed, Quintero looks good.

Last time I check he was a Porto player.

If Barcelona sign Lenglet, I’d imagine he’d be a replacement for Umtiti…

gambon

AMN would have played all season for a Lyon team that were 2nd going into the last 2 weeks. Don’t be so silly.

Ndombele is a completely different player.

Absolutely understandable why people would want him over AMN….or as well as.

AMN isn’t a significant talent.

“AMN isn’t a significant talent.”

Are you saying this based on his development under Wenger?

gonsterous

Kane is one of the better players from that English side and tbh England have surprised Me. I thought they would struggle in the group cause they always play rigid and always seem to have a meltdown. I still don’t think they’ll get far but this has to be one of the best English teams for a very long time…

We know that Ospina can from time to time have a decent game as was the case yesterday. However, he is on the whole a limited goalkeeper as we saw far too often last season. There is no point making comparisons between him and Cech, because both are not on current form first string goalkeepers. When you evaluate both players and making a decision on who to hold onto next season as our second string goalkeeper you have to assess the following: 1. Both are in final year of contract. 2.Ospina will be 30 next season and Cech 36. 3.Cech… Read more »

“AMN isn’t a significant talent.”

On this comments section no Arsenal player is a significant talent

I am more inclined to stick with Ospina; if Emery is going to stick to a high line.

Ospina is better coming off his line. He is really quick.

Cech is better commanding his box but his reflexes are not what it once was.

“Absolutely understandable why people would want him over AMN….or as well as.”

The only thing understandable about is is :

A. He does not play for Arsenal yet so naturally he will be rated higher than AMN

B. He is new and flashy and you have not watched in week in week out, once you do you will get bored and move on to the next new and shiny bit

Left to this blog we will change the entire squad every transfer window as they will get bored with what we have.

On footballing grounds there is not a lot to choose between them. They have both got weaknesses.

My personal view is to assess whether Macey and Martinez are good enough to take over as second string this season and for Cech to be retained in case they are not.

Cech is coming to end of his career so our priority should be regime changes
on bench.

Emiratesstroller

This brings me onto Maitland-Niles. He is a talented youngster with good potential. At the moment I would rate him as a first team squad player.

That means playing in less important cup games and to sit on the bench. That
should also apply to players like Mavropanos, Nkietah and Nelson as well.

My main concern at the moment is that we seem to be recruiting too many
players aged 30+ and choosing to spend sizeable transfer fees on them.

Most of our competitors are looking to buy younger players in 20-25 age group.

Eduardo

God, please can we get rid of Ospina? What an embarrassing cunt that man is.

Seeing him and Sceszny in the same match gave me awful flashbacks…
