"They may not have been the recruits who helped get Arsenal across the line in the 2022-23 season, but the signings of Jorginho and Leandro Trossard have proven to be exemplary additions for Mikel Arteta's side in the 18 months since their arrival.
So much, in fact, that they are just the sort of player profiles who, according to CBS Sports sources, the Gunners are zeroing in on as they look to strengthen their squad for another Premier League push this summer."
"Arsenal are expecting players back at different stages of pre-season due time the Copa America & Euros. The next batch of players due back are those who went out in the group stage, such as Jorginho. It is hoped they could return before Arsenal fly to the USA on Sunday.
After that, Arsenal will welcome back players eliminated in the last-16 & quarter-finals, such as Kai Havertz. Those players involved in the final - Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, David Raya & Declan Rice - are not expected back until AFTER the tour to the USA."
I assume it's in players contracts or it FIFA rule that says players get at least month holiday during summer because I don't understand why backup keepers need month break before reporting for training.
Pedro, I know it's off season now but the site doesn't seem as active and engaging as it used to be. I hope you can change the layout/design of the comment section back to its yesteryear.
I think FA has already told Potter the job is his if he wants it. A few weeks ago, there was about a weeks headlines of Graham going to take Leicester job and then all of a sudden he wasn't and someone else hired. It seems suspicious to me but who knows.
Just like I predicted, he bows out on a relative high. Winning the euros would have been a crowning glory for his efforts but it wasn't to be. Had he stayed on, regression would have kicked in. He's given his all and deserves to rest.
I hope the next coach goes on now to win the Euros, world cup and Nations league back to back as everything England has achieved in the last 8 years was inspite of Southgate. According to Tom and Legendary.
He did some good things but on the whole failed to win it three consecutive times and lost to three different opponents while getting outplayed by all three and by a margin.
He did the smart thing leaving because the chances England gets so lucky again with a draw like they did these Euros are slim to none, not to mention getting a run of home matches like they did two Euros ago.
To play two halves of attractive football against mostly poor and average Euro teams during entire tournament was embarrassing to watch considering the talent available to him , but you can continue riding his dick if it pleases you.
My main Southgate gripe these Euros was him running Saka and Rice’s legs into the ground by playing both max minutes in a mostly defensive style that requires chasing shadows.
Everything else is just for shots and giggles, but if you want to raise funds for a Southgate statue for his amazing achievements I’ll send you a few pennies.
ESR is definitely moving now. There are reports Fulham are close to matching Arsenal's valuation of £30 to £35 mil. We are selling good so far. We need to get the money for the likes of Nelson, Kiwior( if Calafiori is coming in), Ramsdale, and Eddie too.
I really don't like the links to Mikel Merino. I don't rate him highly. I have watched him at Dortmund and at Newcastle. He is an unfulfilled potential of a player. If Arteta wants him, I am on board. But if I had to pick between him and Zubimendi, it would have been Zubimendi. I still feel we should aim higher than both though. But the market is just dusty.
I've only seen a bit of Merino's style of play. But I'm thinking back to when Ilkay Gundogan went to City. Seemed like a serviceable midfielder-- who, when plugged into a talented team, really came into his element.
After some early misfires from Arteta and Edu-- they've been pretty spot-on with their talent ID-ing of late. May be that Merino has a skillset that match up well for the same type of role-- that Gundogan made his own.
Surely you can see the difference in the quality of football being served up by both Managers.
Arteta is 2nd twice in a row behind the most doped up club led by a genius of a manager. His football is high performance football instilled with a will to win in all players, which is needed considering the club (Cheatty) that we are competing with.
Southgate has in fact underachieved with the group he has been dealing with in all tournaments. Serving up timid and cautious football is never going to win you any trophies.
Arteta can buy where as Southgate will have to work with the players that qualifies for England. Also he has to contend with equally great managers managing National team especially Spain, Germany and Italy. He has come up second in consecutive finals and a QF in last World cup hosted in Qatar with its own set of controversies, with an England team whose pedigree in these tournaments are not so great. In one finals his players couldn't score their penalties. In International football playing attractive football is a bonus and mind you the team doesnt train with each other all the time like for clubs. Lets see who will take England next and see how he performs. Till then Southgate is generational (last major win for England if iam not mistaken was in 1966) as he ahs delivered England to two Finals and 1 QF.
This is where I can't disagree with you is that despite the insipid football Southgate has served he has been the most successful manager to date. 2 Finals and a Semi is indeed setting the bar quite high up.
This will interesting to see who the FA select now as they have to make sure they get someone who can equal this achievement and push this team further to finally win a trophy.
If Arteta can be called generational for getting Arsenal to second in two consecutive PL seasons, then why is Southgate called out when he has made it to two consecutive Euro finals, losing one on penalties and other one to the best team of the competition? When was the last England team to enter into finals of any major tournament?
Arteta only gets called generational on this blog, Madhu, and Southgate obviously had a successful spell as Eng manager but losing two finals has got to hurt and change is needed.
Exactly. The lack of self awareness with several fans on this site about Southgate is funny. Extensive excuses always for Arteta but all of a sudden have standards for other managers. 😄
What I'm worried about is the seeming neglect of our youth players for continental players that at best are at par with the ones we have already. There's this craze for "shiny new toys" that's not healthy for our academy players
If you still have to develop a lokonga for 2 years to find out if he will be good enough, why not put that energy into a Willock or Latino for same 2 years and see the outcome?
If you'd have to buy and try to develop Marquinos, why not put the energy in Omari or Cozier-Dubery? These are the questions that need answers
Precisely I have been at this for long and I convinced that with the owners we have we cannot afford to spend millions in every window and we have to do a better job of bringing academy players. It's pretty disappointing to see the attitude regarding academy players.
Nwaneri? He's just getting into the senior squad. Can we please have a moment to see how he progresses? Is he 21, 22 already? Being tutored personally by Ødegaard.
Yamal? One tournament.. Everyone was creaming their jeans over Enzo Fernandez after a tournament, weren't they? James Rodriguez too...
With Lokonga we're getting a 3m loan fee and possibly 12m. We don't even know if there's triggers on the option as was being discussed. It's only not been mentioned officially.
We paid 17m for Sambi. If we lose a few mil taking a flyer on a talented young player that couldn't play to OUR level, it's not a big deal. We are a big club. These things happen.
Tierney, we probably lost a possible 20m fee over the past couple seasons because he is sadly, a crocked mess. Not our clubs fault. Worst possible luck. Gooners were unrealistic expecting 30-35m from Newcastle. --Turns out that Newcastle were wise to avoid him completely.
Keep comparing our sales to ManCity and Chelsea, even though you know they had the shady financial advantages of exaggerated sponsor money to fill their academies.
All the best youth players they bought at high prices, couldn't have been done by Wenger, we tried to develop on a budget.
Hutchinson, unfortunately, had an incredible loan spell at the perfect club.
They did a better job than us in that regard. But they lose so much money that you don't even consider.
They lost 15-20 mil on selling Havertz to us.
You know about debruyne and Salah. They lost close to 100m on Lukaku recently, minus some loan fees. Imagine the ones we aren't aware of.. but we cry every time something goes well in a transaction for them.
If we sell Nketiah, they will have lost the entire fee we make, because they released him and we picked him up, on JOE WILLOCKS recommendation!
Willock is one where we were very lucky with a loan.
A lot of worrying and praising every little move by other clubs, without the proper counting of their problems.
I don't want to change squads or places with any club at this moment, not even Man City with Pep leaving and league issues.
Real Madrid is a special case. It's probably the only thing some doomers would consider acceptable... even though we stole world class Ødegaard off them for 34m.
Mystic is a decidedly limited person and that’s why someone average like Southgate looks so remarkable to him. “You better put some respect on mediocrity” may be a bizarre take to most of you, but for someone like Mystic who probably gives himself compliments for not missing the toilet bowl, it makes a lot of sense.
Any deals between clubs under the PSR microscope, can be largely ignored when pricing players. They are bending the rules as much as possible to inflate their balance sheet.
"Yet when it comes to buying players on the Continent we are required to pay top dollar for players ..."
I've noticed this dynamic for awhile now, English teams collectively have most $$$ in Europe outside a few top teams, it's like prem teams keep the European teams/leagues solvent.
"They may not have been the recruits who helped get Arsenal across the line in the 2022-23 season, but the signings of Jorginho and Leandro Trossard have proven to be exemplary additions for Mikel Arteta's side in the 18 months since their arrival.

From an arsenal account on twitter -
"Arsenal are expecting players back at different stages of pre-season due time the Copa America & Euros. The next batch of players due back are those who went out in the group stage, such as Jorginho. It is hoped they could return before Arsenal fly to the USA on Sunday.

I read players that made it to the final will join the squad in 3 weeks.
Raya and Ramsdale didn't do much during the Euros but Saka and Rice are due a good vacation. They need it.
I assume it's in players contracts or it FIFA rule that says players get at least month holiday during summer because I don't understand why backup keepers need month break before reporting for training.
Bologna are running mad if they think anyone will pay them up to 50 million Euros...and then agree to a percentage of any future sale.
This, for a position that we have overwhelming depth in, for a player they paid 5 million euros for, 1.5 years ago.
Arsenal are absolutely 100% right to slow it down.
Southgate is gone so England can return back to her winning ways.
Thanks for nothing.
Pedro, I know it's off season now but the site doesn't seem as active and engaging as it used to be. I hope you can change the layout/design of the comment section back to its yesteryear.
Southgate gone - good. Let’s have someone who has enough guts to use the attacking talents at his disposal properly.
But sadly the same old twits are still in charge of the FA and they don’t make those types of decisions.
It's not too late for the prophecy to become a reality.

Probably Emile's last goal in an Arsenal shirt.
4/20/22 away to Chelsea. More than 2 years ago...
I hope we can have a buyback clause just in case he manages to stay healthy and to become the player he was supposed to be.
Southgate: "As proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England”.
“It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all”.
"But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. I’m leaving my role”.

Inspite of Southgate?
I never said that.
He did some good things but on the whole failed to win it three consecutive times and lost to three different opponents while getting outplayed by all three and by a margin.

I'm happy with the recent news regarding movements in the outgoing transfers.
Cedric and Elneny's deals have expired and are no longer at the club.
Nuno Tavares is basically sold.
Hopefully Lokonga has some mandatory clauses in the deal with Sevilla.
There is a lot of noise of The Smith moving to Fulham.
Reiss and Eddie will most certainly also be sold. Hopefully we can cash in good dolla on them.
The squad is getting leaner. It's what you love to see.

To be fair Southgate should be in part C of Phase 5 by now. So the concerns are legit. It's just over the top IMO
😆😆😆

His Arsenal opinions are worse mistakes.
Arsenal's transfer business is worrying.
We offload unwanted players such as Lokonga and Tavares on loans to Spanish and Italian Clubs
who plead poverty. Yet when it comes to buying players on the Continent we are required to pay
top dollar for players of similar ability/potential.
However, the major concern for me is how we handle players in the U21s. Last summer we lost
Omari Hutchinson because his contract was allowed to expire. He has just left Chelsea one
year later for a massive profit albeit that we receive a small payment.
This summer we have lost Walters and Cozier-Barry in similar fashion. Okay we will receive a
small compensation package, but when I see that Aston Villa have sold an U21 player to Chelsea
for over £20 million you have to ask serious questions about how contracts in our Academy are
being managed.
We are yet to learn what is happening with negotiations with Obi-Martin who is in similar situation.
Also I have to ask serious questions about how Nanweri is being handled. As a 15/16 year old he
was rated one of the best talents in Europe. Some were taking about him in similar fashion to Yamal
in Spain.
Yet Yamal is now playing regularly for Barcelona first team and he was also in Spanish National team.
Nanweri can play in a wide range of attacking positions and is a regular goalscorer and provider of
assists. Yet Arteta and coaches seem reluctant to include him in first team squad.
Arsenal need to build a pathway between Academy and first team so that young players are
being provided with opportunities to play in first team. That has not been the case in last 3 years.
Any deals between clubs under the PSR microscope, can be largely ignored when pricing players. They are bending the rules as much as possible to inflate their balance sheet.
"Yet when it comes to buying players on the Continent we are required to pay top dollar for players ..."
