Tranasactional went and signed 2 Man c rejects. The reason Guadiola got rid was because you cant carry such passengers in the CL while competing for EPL.
Teta out here saying we need bigger squad sizes to combat injury but rolled into the season with 19 registered players. And out of them Neto, Tomi, Kiwior, KT, zinny and Sterling have barely kicked a ball. So we’ve had a squad of 13 plus MLS and Ethan. Theres your problem Mikel
Fair point. And that’s the issue here.If he had a bigger squad, would indeed he use it? or keep flogging same players in minor cup comps, matches that are done & dusted.Lower prem clubs where full strength is not always reqd.etc etc etc.
Yh agreed. I’m not sure he would. He seems to have severe recency bias IMO. Every time he signs someone new they become flavour of the month/season, and then he neglects the other player. I get that happens when you upgrade but he literally destroys the players value and confidence rendering them useless. He’ll do the same to white next year I fear
@ Lewis. And I might add.Due diligence on purchasing robust transfers without a history of injuries.Regardless of age.Calafiori ,Tommi,& Tierney spring to mind.
Nobody ever mentions that the Emirates has supposedly got a curse on it. The story goes that two Sp*rs fans were working on the foundations of the new stadium and buried two Sp*rs shirts for bad luck. I don’t know if it’s true because there is a similar story about St Mary’s concerning Pompey fans. But if it is true, it’s certainly kicked in the last three seasons.
Also worth noting when people bring up the lack of injuries last season or whatever. Just as easily as saying getting an injury is bad luck well going through a season unscathed is extremely lucky. That being said injuries or no we've run out of steam completely towards our last few seasons and looked completely flat. Whatever is going on at colney needs a looking into
Will be interesting what the club find when they investigate this, not that we will ever know of course.
I believe they lost a few on the medical staff recently, something to look at? Maybe they need new fitness staff, I remember Shad Forsyth having an impact on players who had suffered Wenger and his Stone Age, or 1980s at best fitness coaches. Does this team need similar?
If they find Arteta is to blame for this, he needs to be told to shape up, in no uncertain terms, Kingship or not, though in his defence, they got very few injuries last season. If hard pitches still exist at Colney and are causing problems , should be easy to remedy.
If the refs are aiding and abetting this, again, the club need to take this on, why do they get Michael Oliver in so many key games, why hasn’t his red card record against us been properly looked at , why do Arsenal get cards for “ offences” that other teams do not. If there is bias, call them out, if they are not protecting our players ( yes you Saka) call them out , if they have favoured Liverpool because of regional bias, Cootegate or because a poor ref/ VAR decision cost Liverpool at Tottenham last season, at least have a word in private.
If there is players are playing too many games, just get a bigger feckin squad, and use them ! Especially in league cup games against Bolton.
One more thing, if they sell a bunch of Hale Enders (that could have come in useful this season), at least have the good grace to replace at least some of the departed with like for like ( ok, in fairness the new SD has prob already been bought in to do just that)
Arsenal's season has been impacted by a combination of factors
1. Our preferred starting eleven when fit are playing too many minutes. As an example Declan Rice has played well over 3,000 minutes so far this season.
2. The fringe players in the squad are frankly grossly under used. According to Transfermarket:
Tomiyasu 6 Minutes
Tierney 261 Minutes
Neto 360 Minutes
Zinchenko 560 Minutes
Sterling 954 Minutes
White 1,020 Minutes
Kiwior 1,075 Minutes
3. Our results have been impacted this season by a combination of factors
a] Red Cards. We have dropped 7 points from winning positions.
b] Too many injuries particularly to key players both in attack and now defence.
c] Dull and Slow Build up football.
d] The absence of a top class strikers.
For these reasons some might argue a miracle that we are still in second place in the
league.
My view is that the management need to upgrade the bench and Arteta needs next season
to rotate better his squad. Apart from the second string goalkeeper and those out injured
there should be no player on the books who is playing fewer than 1,500 minutes during the
"If Andrea Berta can’t persuade Arteta to change things, then his hiring was kind of pointless.."
where even he is expressing doubts about MA's direction.
I would love us to sign at least a couple of talented maverick players who can on occassions read the game from the pitch, ignore the straight jacket instruction from the sideline and go for it.
Not sure I agree with this, I'm also a sports med doc and I dont understand how hamstring ruptures are a good thing. There hasnt been any new techniques or innovations in "hamstring repair" its pretty much been the same for the last 20-30 years
I didn’t say hamstring injuries were a good thing. I said the clarity scanners give medical practitioners use have higher fidelity so they can fix the issues with more precision and less scar tissue.
No evidence to support that statement though Pedro.
Surgery has numerous risks. Surgery devascularises tissue and can slow healing. Introduces risks like infection. You get plenty of scar tissue with surgery.
The expanding indications of surgery are unsupported. Bony avulsions with huge displacement have some logic for needing it. Issue is that now indications are expanding to less displaced tears and musculotendinous injuries.
struggling with the idea that Arsenal, run by a global sports group, with the best minds on their best players, with limitless money, are making mistakes because surgeons like fees. Not to mention that club specialists all know each other and share expertise.
End of the day, you’re fighting against best in class talent working in the best league in the world. Think you should stand down on this one until you can prove they are wrong.
Sadly your stance shows a lack of understanding of how medicine works. Trends often follow dogma and fashions, rather than evidence, particularly in surgery, and it can sometimes take a decade or two for the truth to become obvious.
Also it's scientifically nonsensical - if something has not been proven then it hasn't been proven, you don't have to prove a negative to be able to justifiably state the case for something is unproven!!
Perhaps you should stand down until you've actually understood the argument - I am not saying they are definitely wrong, I am saying the case for the rising rate of hamstring surgery has not been proven and this is clearly the case, as the evidence cited by experts supporting this stance is low quality and flimsy. They may be right, however they may be wrong, what is clear, is that we don't know and their case is unproven.
If you don't have high quality evidence with a comparator then you simply don't know if your intervention is effective, and if history has taught us anything in surgery in particular, it is that trends in practice are not necessarily correct. Many new interventions don't work.
You don’t need to be an expert in sports medicine to understand that if Arsenal were actively damaging their star athletes with unnecessary surgery… we’d find out quicker than a decade.
I think the point being made is that the scanning techniques and technology have improved? So it’s more likely to have a surgery earlier than just rest?
It's a nonsense argument. There's no evidence to support the trend towards more surgery. Surgeons make money from operating and have a vested interest.
Most hamstring tears do just as well without surgery.
I wasn’t arguing the point, just saying how I understood the statement.
I think it makes sense that there has been advancement in the scan capability and the surgical techniques. And potentially a shift in the thinking that better surgery earlier is better than letting them heal on their own.
However I have no background or knowledge to back that statement up. Would leave that to the experts.
I speak to people, Dan. I wouldn’t have dedicated a blog to something outside my field without talking to someone who works in the industry. This is expert testimony. Better scanners, better diagnosis, cleaner repair.
Maybe your experts aren't at the highest levels of elite sport - because what I told you is factual, based on evidence, and it's why Arsenal aren't healing 3 players naturally.
Who is more likely to be right, you, or the people whose jobs are on the line if they get it wrong?
'I’ve been doing some digging on the “oh my gosh, another hamstring surgery” concern. My worry was centered on the severity of what surgery traditionally means to the proles like me and you.'
I'll just add that Arteta...picks the squad, trains the squad and picks who plays...does he EVER appear to be cautious with the health of the players? Could this be why we seem to have no problem signing crocks?
Did Arteta EVER complain to the media at the amount of kicking, harsh challenges and butchering that Saka received before he was injured?
Did he notice that Kai was totally spent after games when he did the most running of anyone on the team?
I wonder whether Galaxy Brain will LEARN from these events and not train his players into the ground going forward...
Is he going to do that with Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri?
I fear that these kids are going to get crunched and we'll ALL suffer without them in the team.
Again. Missing the point.
I'm not saying it's likely they're being harmed.
I'm saying there's a very good chance some of this surgery is totally unnecessary and may add zero benefits for the players.
What about micro surgery, like key hole surgery so they would cut a much smaller area to get to the issue so less scaring and quicker recovery.
Anyhow it's unusual to have surgery for grade 1 tears like Gabi's so let's see if surgery is reported for him
It’s typically laparoscopic surgery except when it’s converted to open, like for Saka.
Tranasactional went and signed 2 Man c rejects. The reason Guadiola got rid was because you cant carry such passengers in the CL while competing for EPL.
So he went and got a 3rd reject in Sterling.

Jamal Musiala just left the pitch with hamstring injury in Bayern's game.
Fkin Arteta man overplaying everyone man...
There's a seat on the special bus waiting for you rap
🤣🤣
And one behind him for you Marko…

Its not true..

No club on the planet would look at the outcome of this season and not investigate how we ended up in this position.
Probably the first thing in 5+ years that we can agree on
Which means you finally get a win on being right about something
Rare Pedro dub
I'll take it Marko, I'll take it. Normal service resumes tomorrow.

Hey David, medical staff just deal with the outcomes. We need to get to the root of how players get to the medical staff
Arsenal's season has been impacted by a combination of factors

Agree on all your points Stroller.
Pedro's comment:
"If Andrea Berta can’t persuade Arteta to change things, then his hiring was kind of pointless.."
where even he is expressing doubts about MA's direction.
I would love us to sign at least a couple of talented maverick players who can on occassions read the game from the pitch, ignore the straight jacket instruction from the sideline and go for it.
Agreed. But you politely,I’d imagine, failed to call out our friends @ the PGMOL/ VAR or is the implication with the ‘ red cards’?
The PGMOL/VAR/REFEREES is factored into Red Card situation.
Not sure I agree with this, I'm also a sports med doc and I dont understand how hamstring ruptures are a good thing. There hasnt been any new techniques or innovations in "hamstring repair" its pretty much been the same for the last 20-30 years

Time will tell.
My friend, I am not here to fight you on your expertise. But know I got this from someone at the elite level of sport.
I have expertise and I know multiple experts in this area.
struggling with the idea that Arsenal, run by a global sports group, with the best minds on their best players, with limitless money, are making mistakes because surgeons like fees. Not to mention that club specialists all know each other and share expertise.

Totally. It's likely more dogma than evidence.
I think the point being made is that the scanning techniques and technology have improved? So it’s more likely to have a surgery earlier than just rest?
Exactly Dan, cleaner fixes because they can see more for the worst hamstring injuries.
It's a nonsense argument. There's no evidence to support the trend towards more surgery. Surgeons make money from operating and have a vested interest.

Proper internet behavior to take intel I have from people in the field at the top of their game and say it’s nonsense.

I know experts. There is no basis for the rise in surgery.
Fully appreciate you're not arguing the point.
More scanning and surgeons keener to ooerate= more surgery. We have no idea if this is good or bad or neutral for player health.
Maybe your experts aren't at the highest levels of elite sport - because what I told you is factual, based on evidence, and it's why Arsenal aren't healing 3 players naturally.
Who is more likely to be right, you, or the people whose jobs are on the line if they get it wrong?
Arsenal getting ripped off by surgeons is a shocking take.
So where is Pedro getting his info from?More than one school of thought on this subject or rubbish?
Pedro has zero medical expertise. FFS, he uses ChatGPT. You can't be that gullible. Eh?
I work in sport mate.
I know, but you're not a medical expert. Always gotta put up that disclaimer.
Just put a disclaimer in for you. Probably didn't make it clear I wasn't a doctor over the past 17 years.
Yes, you're correct:
'I’ve been doing some digging on the “oh my gosh, another hamstring surgery” concern. My worry was centered on the severity of what surgery traditionally means to the proles like me and you.'
ChatGPT, honestly.
LOL, it was all in jest. All fun and games here. ChatGPT is here to stay.

I fear that these kids are going to get crunched and we'll ALL suffer without them in the team.
Disagree.
Scar contracts and there is no decent evidence to support the expanding indications for surgery.
Some players will have recurrent issues whether they have surgery or not.
None of us know for sure but.....the chances that the intensity of training isn't a causal factor in this epidemic of hamstring injuries is slim
