Too true. In recent weeks, when we've needed a goal, he's gone to that fraud, Sterling who is conning the Chavs and us for nearly £20m a year basic salary, if not Zinchenko and White! Why do we have Butler- Oyedeji sitting there week after week doing SFA? Doubtless one of the positive prats will say that he's not ready yet! But Sterling is.......

Whoever is appointed the DOF is not as important as his job description. Is he going to work under arteta or above him? If we hire someone and he is instructed to work under arteta and sign anyone he identifies, how is that going to change anything? Many here know that arteta's priority in the summer will likely be salibas back up followed by Rayas and then zubimendi's back up and a new left back before even think of a striker. As far as he's concerned, we have two tall center strikers in havertz and merino and unfortunately there are some who agree with him on this.

This makes me so depressed but somehow that is likely what will happen

I am very excited for the new DOF

Whilst I don’t know him well, there was no planet on which we have a good summer without a new DOF

He is the most important signing of all. Any other windows without one would be destined to disappoint one way or another

This guy now comes in with a good few months left to play before the summer. Very good

Irrelevant tie honestly. Madrid waiting for us in the next tie if we go through. Matter of time before we are put out of our misery. A very underwhelming season given our expectations last summer.

Looking at the time Szobozlai and Gravenbach took to settle in the EPL tells me Zubimendi will take the same time or more.

What he does can be done by Odegaard if he is played deeper

A post that is correct as many have often said.

Going in another direction, I am convinced Arteta is going to lose the locker room very soon and will for sure before the end of next year.

The players gave everything they had and more, Arteta's way, brutal pressing and exertion, most running in EPL, almost no rotation, with stars ending up on the surgeons table or healing their broken back, and that is just the games, and now have no Silverware to show for it.

Why would any player go all out again if Arteta does not change tactics?

No sane player will do so, as Arteta has proven his disregard for player game day state or long term health.

Would be ideal if he loses the locker room a few months in to the new season so we can write that year off aswell and focus on 26-27 season

I don't know what to make of this post. Almost what some of us have said all season that you Pedro have cancelled on this blog is what you are saying as if it's something new. I get a ban for a week saying the same thing and questioning why we are spending on zubimendi when we have a better version of him in MLS. The money we could have used to buy an actual striker. Actually we need two. Havertz and merino are both poor versions of fellaini.

Zubamandi is better than partey

LOL I really hope we don't sign this Zubamandi. I heard Zubimendi is better though so maybe we should go for him instead.

Pedro, you've nailed it once again.

The truth is that we have fucked up last summers TW.

The players we bought were not needed. Later yes, but not now.

The club should have overpaid for Sesko instead of that meek caving in when they decided to not sell. Liepzig played smart and held out for 1 extra season to get more money which we are going to pay now any way. So the whole waiting game was stupid in the first place.

I really hope the club go for a proper DoF and not some internal appointee that will cave in to Arteta's (poor) choices.

We need someone who can help and impose a vision.

This is imperative for next season if we are to continue seriously challenging and get the players the team seriously needs.

Expand full comment

He didn't nail anything. He's just admitting what many of us have been saying since October. And many of the choir members here were waiting for ESR to get injured to justify arteta's stupidity

Expand full comment

Sesko didn't come because he chose to stay in Leipzig for his "development", that's what his agent said.

When you read between the lines, it would have been because he didn't want to be behind Havertz, who's not even a striker.

We have to decide what Havertz is, or Sesko may choose to go elsewhere; is Havertz a starting main man or is he back up?

Expand full comment

He also stayed because he didn't feel he'd get playing time

How wrong was that

Expand full comment

At that time, Havertz wasn't even yet "made" a striker. He was a false 9 and that's after Jesus got injured.

Once we knew that we weren't buying Sesko, Arteta was boosting Jesus confidence like he was the second coming for our front line.

To me there was a gentleman's agreement to wait until then end of this season as Liepzig needed their best striker for one extra season.

Of course that agreement is BS. They only want more money for him. Which they will get. Either from us (I hope) or from someone else.

I really hope they have plan B for Zubimendi

That dude changes his mind very quickly and cannot be counted on.

Just keep Partey for another season just in case.

The squad conception and planning is very poor at Arsenal

As Chris alluded to earlier, someone should have [ought to have known] what MLS was capable before they went to splurge money on Calafiori.

Someone should have found a place for Chido on that crappy attacking line up, considering we were thin. He wanted a faster developmental track.

Was our attack so freaking top notch that we couldn't find a 3rd back up striker role for him, when we knew we were selling Nketiah.

Then we should have moved out Kivior and replaced him on the squad with Ayden Heaven as 5th/6th in line center back.

If anyone is going to block the pathway of young players, it has to be undeniably top notch talent or a veteran on his last legs bought for pennies.

We shouldn't be spending £30 million on Merino to replace Elneny.

Expand full comment

The dilemma with Arteta is that he distrusts players of an unknown quality.

He so wedded to planning every single detail of a game that he refuses to play young players out of fear that they'll mess up his meticulous plan and cost him a win.

The irony of this is that senior players have let him down yet he will play them time and time again.

Guardiola is out of CL and out of EPL. His only hope is FA and Carabao. He is making sure in case he is eliminated, theres an excuse.

Unless the ball from last year is different from the one used this year, the question is, why didnt we here about the balls when he had EPL in the bag

Pep's got 2 FA Cups and 4 Carabaos.

He's said it a few times before in seasons he's won the trophies and lifted PL titles.

Yaya Toure in 2017

"I don't like it, to be honest, they can do better than that. It's too light. Even in my country they can't use those kind of balls. I think they have to be better than that because the ball was too soft. It's rubbish but that's fine.

"The World Cup one (Jabulani) was better than that one. A lot of players were complaining. The FA can try to do something because we just want to enjoy it.

"It's difficult to play with these kind of balls but we try to find a way. It's everything. Shooting -- the ball is very light, when you touch it, it's floating, it's rubbish. And in this weather it's difficult."

It's so hard to agree with our manager, we'd now question everyone else as well, recent and old, just so it's cool to bag on Arteta.

Pep can criticize the length of the turf grass blades or the ball, he's a legend of the game. It will be considered as eccentricities of a genius manager.

Arteta has done zilch...nada...nichts. It is considered whining for good reasons. He has not earned that leeway.

Pep Guardiola

The FA Cup ball is not proper - for many years the FA Cup and Carabao Cup it’s not good! All the shots go over the bar… I know it's a business and they come to agreements, but the ball is not (good). You know how many shots went over the post? Not just Erling's - look at other games. The Premier League ball is exceptional, the Champions League ball is exceptional, but this one is not good!

I'm waiting for our resident genius Marko to also ridicule one of the greatest managers ever for saying the same thing as Arteta. Not for the first time either btw. Enlighten us with your ultra knowledge about ball compared to people in that field that make tens of millions a year.

It's a similar thing to how a good pitch helps the more talented team compared to an unplowed field.

Puma Mitre is a shocking ball compared to Adidas and Nike.

Huh? Emmmm I don't care. Pep is incredibly successful and created some of the very best styles of football ever seen in football. If he complains about a football I don't think it should really bother anyone. Mikel on the other hand floundering through another season struggling to find a style of play that works sounds kinda like a bitch blaming a football. Which tbf he wasn't really blaming he thankfully doesn't have that much audacity

Not only is every ball different from brand to brand but there are also subtle differences between same company official match balls made in Pakistan and China.

Agree with Pep though, Adidas CL ball> Nike EPL ball> all the rest.

- "Barcelona have been charged with suspected bribery for payments worth more than €7 million ($7.3m) made to companies linked to the to the former vice president of the refereeing committee, José María Enríquez ..."
