It's true that City has won the league last 2 seasons irrespective of their talents. We bottled the league both times. Not the refs, us. We need to take a long look at everything we are doing after this season and decide. We could still pick up and win this season (atleast Pedro is convinced it's our season) but giving Arteta 3 years at that money was not a good idea.

If we fail again this season, it will be 6 years and counting. We really need to win or say bye at some point. GS was honest enough to realise he had done all he could for England. Can Arteta be that honest? Cos stupid Kroenkes won't fire him as far as he's in top 4 (which is their target all along)

Sometimes you wonder what the point of it all is.

City will win the league irrespective of their own talent, the refs will make it happen to be certain.

We are our own problem

Let’s start by looking inwards first

Last season we lost the league at home when we didn’t beat Villa

Yesterday we lost not because of the referee, but because we put a team that was too creativity-deprived and disjointed out on the field.

Expand full comment

Sorry we didn’t lose because of the lineup of the team on the field but rather we have too many self destructive and naive players on our team . You picked a fight for no reason for calling out Trossard’s petulance after scoring the game winner cuz he didn’t start and the stupid red against City.

His back pass was the catalyst for the Saliba losing his head. Martinelli blows a sitter and less said about Kiwior and Sterling the better. I’m not blaming Arteta for this. These players need to get their shyt together or get shipped out period. They are good enough to beat Bournemouth

Also have a look at yourself if you think a team selection like yesterday was ever ready for prime time

It was good enough to beat bloody Bournemouth

Trossard made a mistake that at best would have led to a conceded goal

Saliba made a mistake that made it far more difficult to win the game.

It doesn’t take anything away from Saliba’s exceptional qualities, same as Trossard for making a panicked pass

What was “petulant” about Trossard making a mistaken pass?

Oh dear God, are you ok Mate?

Is the flow of a write up so hard for you to follow?

Is this the first time you’ve taken up about Trossard with me?

What in my write up would indicate that a poor pass would have anything to do with petulance? Okay Dissenter, just never mind …Jeez

Absolutely just what I was thinking. I give up. Why do we bother….?!

Thats Why they will win the league and we are not, sorry to say

Jonathan Wilson -

"This was not, for all that Arsenal fans will whine about conspiracies, about the refereeing decisions. It was not about the red card to William Saliba in the first half or about the penalty awarded in the second, profound though the impact of those decisions was. Rather it was about the extraordinary self-destructiveness that led to those decisions, the poor passes, the lack of discipline, the woolly-mindedness that so often afflicts Arsenal at key moments.

Arsenal succumbed, yet again, to their strange habit of making life difficult for themselves. Dramatic comebacks, late winners and nerve-jangling victories are all very well, but title-winning teams tend to have a number of routine victories, matches in which, without expending too much nervous energy, they rack up points almost unnoticed."

The mental gymnastics involved in justifying Arteta's 15m per annum pay check is atomic. Wtf!!

Expand full comment

A manager who has won 1 FA cup in 4.5 years doesn't deserve 15m per annum.

Personally, we should have waited till the end of the season to discuss it. Let's see how he does this season.

The way many Arsenal fans behave, you'd think Arsenal can't exist without Arteta.

One of the best managers in the game, Klopp, just left Liverpool and they're currently top of the table.

Pedro was busy pushing the narrative that Liverpool will be shit for the next 5 years.

Expand full comment

I was given hell by the usual bunch when I suggested Liverpool had already finely replaced Klopp. It's crazy the mentality of certain Arsenal fans.

Go ward off Barca…….according to Pedro

And yes I do think Arteta made a mistake in selecting Merino. We haven’t seen enough of him to make any judgement that fair, but his type of play hopefully complements what Ode can do. Is he the ideal player to be the sole creative outlet? I doubt it especially when he has played so little game time. This was a perfect game to try out Nwaneri instead who is match fit and far more dynamic in the attacking midfield role, albeit very different in style from Ode.

I hope Saliba learns from the game - leaving aside the exposure from the disastrous pass from Trossard, he was wrong sided and that desperate lunge was only going to end one way. Had he settled for tracking his man the probability of Bournemouth scoring when they were that distance away was minimal. To call it a goal scoring opportunity is a joke but those are the rules. He has to use those odds in his head when he is in that situation again.

Northbanker,

The rules only apply to AFC. Get your facts straight.

Never see $h*tTy's players sent off in a meaningful way ever, same with pool and chavs.

The rulers are bent full stop!

Expand full comment

that may be so but we know what we’re dealing with so let’s deal with it

Expand full comment

He was wrong sided only because it was an Arsenal player who played the ball through, if it had been a Bournemouth player was well off.

agreed Bob I wasn’t blaming him for being wrong sided but making the point that to lunge at that point was only going to end one way

‚ To call it a goal scoring opportunity is a joke but those are the rules.‘

well it wasn‘t when konsa brought down saka or auba by evans though the rule on it didn‘t change in the last years. the interpretation seems to depend on who fouls and who is fouled …

Maybe we just are a “nearly” team. Last season it was the stupid errors leading to goals which cost us. The Partey at Rb, the back pass from Saka, the Jorginho error, multiple ones from Zinchenko……..

This year it seems to be the red card issue. 3 games out of 8 with red cards. That’s just not sustainable. Also, a team as accomplished as Arsenal, really shouldn’t be as meek as we have been against Brighton and now Bournemouth, with 10 men. Look at the last time City / Pool played with 10. They don’t go into a shell with defence only as the game plan.

Second place always I guess…..

Expand full comment

Yeah there definitely seems to be a pattern of being extremely good, but ultimately falling just short. Mostly due to defensive lapses and errors.. It seems like a mentality issue more than anything as most of the players are clearly up there with the best, or is that only us fans that think so highly of our own team? Not sure what to make of it all, but it’s definitely very frustrating!

Mikel got it wrong yesterday why play 3 holders he should have started Ethan with Rice and Partey. Also I would have kept the pace in attack when Saliba was sent off, sub Tross not sterling,

Too many defensive players in the starting 11 for me we were playing Bournemouth who already lost to any decent team they played this season not City.

Very disappointed with the result. MIKEL needs to do better with his in game management.

Sterling has shown no aptitude in any attacking situation so far.

Trossard has been fantastic all season and last season

And the season before

Expand full comment

Our transfer policy has been flawed for some time.

We’ve been playing the game of fine margins, rather than seek creative players to transform us.

It’s been to sign the latest center back that can play as left/right back.

We have only two creative nodes in the entire squad; Saka and Odegaard.

Expand full comment

Yesterday’s loss was on Arteta, 100% on him

The team was set up to fail and the starting 11 was deprived on creativity because of the set up.

Had Trossard played the Odegaard role, we may have had a chance .

He just had to jam Merino in. He convinced Merino to join us ahead of Barcelona and now feels like he’s compelled to play him at every turn.
