A magic touch for assists and shooting. Could be a Bruno Fernandez level or better with enough playing time... somewhere.

And enough about chido nobody. Let me know when he's scoring 20 plus goals anywhere in decent league.

We're the Arsenal. One of the best teams in the world, and he isn't even getting my attention anymore.

You'd have to be so gullible to believe Guehi rumours unless, maybe Gabriel is being sold. Otherwise.. people should have a tiny bit of common sense to filter out obvious bullshit.

Expand full comment

I can't believe the Guehi rumours. We already have the numbers in defence, if you don't believe me I think ES might have posted once or twice on our squad numbers. With Calafiori coming and say Kiwior leaving, that would still leave us with five international CBs!

Expand full comment

The only reason that would make sense is if Tomiyasu has a longterm injury. That way we have Saliba and Guehi for RCB, Timber and White for RB (timber would take up Tomi's role of playing everywhere) Calafiori, Zinchenko and Gabriel as left sided players.

I still think we shouldn't rely on Tomi regardless. But I want a free signing like OG Pepe at 40 years old to have a guarantee than spend 50 mil on a backup. The money could be used else where like an 8, a 6 and a Winger.

If Guehi joins… Then Timber to play as our No6 gathers serious traction.

Still feels like defensive overkill!

The squad of players travelling to the States includes a significant number of Under 21 players. Also the squad will be without 9 first team squad players [8 on holiday post Euros and Copa America plus Tomiyasu who is out injured]

The next three friendlies are all against EPL opposition covering three games in 10 days. My expectation is that Arteta will use these games to test the youngsters at this level, but also to make

final decisions on players who could potentially leave.

What needs to be decided also is the size of next season's squad and also how we redress the "home grown" rule if players like Ramsdale, Hein, Smith-Rowe, Nelson and Nketiah were to leave.

My expectation has been that Arsenal will recruit this summer 4 new players. Specifically a third

string goalkeeper to replace Hein who will be sent out on loan. A defender who will become our first string left back [most probably Calafiori], a midfielder and a forward.

Common sense dictates that if we are going to challenge for EPL and Cup honours we need at

least 20 players good enough to start first team games and/or come off bench.

Both Real Madrid and Manchester City cut the size of their squads last year to 22 and 23. So it is

possible that Arsenal will follow a similar route. Both Cedric and Elneny were virtually unused and

do not need to be replaced. So if we recruit 4 new players this summer we need to replace only

those additional players that are actually leaving

Expand full comment

Firstly, If you believe the rumour Mills, we are already working on the home grown thing because we have submitted second bid for guehi. I believe it because he is another defensive addition. So as per usual, let us make ourselves difficult to beat. Secondly, those list were just there for the sake of it last season. I doubt if all of them had 20 starts combined. So he can as well put some unknown names there just to fill the slot. What is the point of home grown players that won't get to play.

Expand full comment

If we reduce squad to 23 then of course we can reduce the number of home grown requirements as well.

The easiest solution is to recruit a third string goalkeeper who is home grown. That

appears to be one position in squad which is easy to fill without spending a lot of

money.

Also I do think that Arsenal will promote at least one player from U21s most probably

Nanweri. Arteta will be under considerable pressure to promote someone not only

because what has been going on in Academy, but because it was the declared policy

of club's owners to recruit youth from within club.

This has been always my opinion as well. There will always be games in a season where a player such as Nanweri can be given 20 minutes gametime without risk

in doing so.

Expand full comment

Nwaneri should be selected for the early FA Cup games and Carabao Cup that we have. And subbed in for the final 10 minutes of an EPL game which has clearly been won.

This should be enough time and a great incentive to give proper real game time to a young player finding his feet in our first team.

Expand full comment

Nwaneri shouldn't be put in the squad just for the sake of filling a spot. The guy is a generational talent like saka and Smith. His development will be stalling if all he gets is 3 injury time minutes every month. He needs to trust him with the hopes of using him to help the team and not to waist time. He can as well loan him out immediately to a manager who has no fear in trusting talented young players.

Nwaneri. Nwa-neri.

Nanweri sounds like an adjective to describe the feeling if you have a dodgy Grandma!

Expand full comment

Shouldn’t bring politics into it especially as Joe doesn’t know he stepped down. Arteta would play the kids if they were good enough. We were very unfortunate last season to not get a decent draw in the cup competitions so we could bed a few in. COYG

Okay. Let’s get the hysterics started.

It’s interesting to see you Brits weigh in on US politics. Most of you are so concerned with trump being the leader but as I told all of you after the 2020 election you have little understanding of what u are wantjng. Biden and any Democrat atm has no ability to stop the US from being led by the military industrial complex which leads the world into another world war. Biden’s war, Ukraine, cough ahem…and the continuation of the invasion by the rest of the Americas must stop unless u think you and your sons should put their life on the line for these elite assholes. Was Brexit not partially due to the immigration issue? Well it is infinitely worse here. We have the cartel and gang members infiltrating this country not to mention the threat of terrorists. Acknowledged or not, a fractured US is a threat to peace amongst the world.

Is Trump perfect, hell no. Is he the polished politician? Hell no. But he is not the idiot you all make him out to be. How many wars did he start the first go round again? Peace and negotiations are very important at this time and so many of you just get your news from such biased sources that you need to reconsider your sources.

If it's true that a Saudi club really likes Jesus I'd sell to them at anywhere near 50m, I'd add to that money and buy Gyokeres if possible and still a good winger. We can afford it unless all the discussed sales completely fall through. Gyokeres will score twice as many goals as Jesus and works hard too.

I usually don't do speculative transfer ideas, but I really think Jesus is going to end up a bad purchase financially overall.... and he just misses far too many chances, and games, for his cost.

The lack of noise interms of midfield recruitment is concerning. If or when ESR leaves we will be left with Odegaard, Rice, Partey, Jorginho, and Vieira. I am assuming that the Merino links have some truth in them, That makes 8 players with Merino coming in and ESR leaving. I am assuming Rice and Merino will be the 8s , Partey and Jorginho the 6's with Rice shifting when needed too. There lies my problem. Partey can't be counted up on to be the 8th midfielder. We can't bank on him.

There needs to be 2 midfield additions at the very least when ESR leaves. Our season can't be dependent on a player who hasn't been fit in cruicial moments during the past 4 seasons.

Same goes for Tomiyasu, A CB/RB is needed to phase him out and sell him now or in January.

We also need a Winger with that, possibly a keeper if Ramsdale leaves.

Calafiori looks some player. And judging by the disappointment of him leaving the Serie A of all these Italian pundits and ex players , I think we will get a quality player. The serious issue more than anything has to be fitness first and foremost. We need him to stay fit for the season to be sure this won't be a mistake.

Vieira - you must be joking right! See Utd made a nice 30mill profit on Greenwood, whilst Marseille only want Eddie on loan, taking the mick out of Arsenal & getting away with it as usual. Sold Auba to the Saudis, Edu paid him to leave. Useless .
