Fantastic win and game management by the team. Got through a whole week of micro aggressions from Madrid, forget that, the we’ve been taking micro aggressions all season even in the premier league. Though we really need to tie down this penalty thing. I don’t know the stats of how many we missed this season but it’s felt like more than we should especially given how few we get and how tight some games are.
Great win. they dominated play for the 180 minutes. They are so organized in their shape. Honestly, they have a great shot to be in the finals. Imagine what they can do with a proper #9. Winning against RM is huge and hopefully will attract the type 9f talent they are looking for in the summer.
I don't know that a so-called "proper 9" can top Merino's performance over the last 180 Champions League minutes.
If he had been bought in January as a striker, we would be calling his acquisition the best business in the January transfer window at par with Trossard.
I'm not saying that the team does not need a new center forward, but Merino and Arteta deserve all the credit in the world for the experiment working.
When Arsenal fans of this blog watch this podcast with an open mind, they are likely to realize the difference between responsible fanhood and jingoistic deluded fandom. Well, probably Real fans can afford to be such sane and balanced because they are indeed an established world-champion club.
Both goals great. First goal world-class. I believe the first was the kind of goal Arteta keeps dreaming of. It had Arteta’s signature all over it. It was a Wengerball goal i.e, Typical Arsenal of 2008 to 2011.
I hear you, Habesha Gooner and Mr Serge - and raise you.
The maestro in chief, Mikel Arteta, deserves massive credit.
Regardless of what happens moving forward, all the Arteta Outers can go hug an electric fence for all I care. This is a massive achievement with a depleted team, but a team that he has molded with never-say-die mentality and calm determination.
The other Mikel, [Merino] was arguably the co-man of the match with Declan Rice in my opinion. Two fucking assists. And to remind Merino's haters how they howled and insulted Arteta, not understanding that the man played in the finals of the Euros, came to Arsenal unfit, then got injured - causing him to have a very unsettled transition to a new club. Shame.
Everyone did their duty, and then some today, but Arteta created the culture that has made it all possible despite all the hate and doubt. We are not there yet but are clearly on the way!
Exactly bro. It is so short sighted not to see why we have failed to get over the line. It is circumstances and great teams that have stopped us. If you stay competing, eventually you will get it. That is why I still trust Arteta.
Ask spurs fans what life after pochettino has looked like. We just need the final bit to be a dominant force at the elite level.
In Partey's absence for the home game against PSG, I'm thinking about a few options:
1. Jorginho is available, he slots in Partey's position
2. Calafiori is available, he plays at LB and we move MLS to midfield
3. Neither of the two is available, then we could play Timber at LB, White at RB and MLS in midfield
I wouldn't move Merino from the CF position. We've gotten so used to playing with Havertz, that Merino allows us to keep up the habits. Our play style, our collective brain is wired in such a way that it allows for a seamless transition from Havertz to Merino. Playing anyone else but Merino would be a massive change that I would hate to see.
- Odegaard with an ankle injury that had him out of play for 57 days has been getting a free pass for months now, cause you know, it was a bad injury, he's a dad, our offensive players aren't good enough etc etc
- Saka, back in 101 days (almost double), after a hamstring surgery!!!, bossed Real Madrid over two legs and as he's done all season long, he's performed at a level, corresponding to a top 3 player in the world. Not only he demolished Alaba and Madrid's defence, he was surging back to help in defence as well.
Enough of the excuses. Odegaard should show his class. Prove how good he is. Until then, him being a world class player is a myth living in his fanboys' minds.
Saka, yes.
Rice, yes.
Saliba, yes.
Gabriel, yes.
Partey, yes.
Havertz, yes.
Timber, yes.
Raya, yes.
MLS about to join the elite group.
We should upgrade on the final 2 positions - LW and AM to complete the puzzle (Nwaneri might be a bit too green next season). And either add to Havertz, or upgrade on him (which is currently only Isak).
Also, let's for a second forget Partey earned himself the dumbest yellow card in the history, how do we not extend a player of his class and quality? We're approaching the time when it would be a travesty and a deadly sin not to keep him at our club for another couple of years. It would be self sabotage.
Merino in place of your boy friend havertz. He is better, cheaper, doesn't need pampering and smiles a lot. MLS is already a part of whatever it is you are gathering.
Where are those buffoons who were telling me to calm down that the tie wasn't over and Real have history to comeback and steamroll us. Fucking losers the lot of you. As if that 3-0 didn't tell you this Real Madrid team has nothing going for them and can't defend to save their lives. It wasn't even an overconfidence thing. It was reality that they don't measure up to us defensively and with Saka offensively. Real Madrid would not finish top 4 in the current Premier League football. Wake the fuck up!
Onwards we go. I'm starting to believe we can win the CL. We're suited to it the way we're set up. Shame it hasn't worked for us in PL with all the mistakes.
Vini Jr, Mbappe, Rodrygo, Endrick, et al all played their part over 180 mins but the one winger to rule them all is called Bukayo and he’s fucking amazing
To miss a pen like that then casually score with a little dink like that was nothing short of disgusting

What a performance, loved reading the comments this evening!
Correction: There was La Remontada at the Bernabeu last night.
A comeback for Bukayo "Starboy" Saka.
A failed dink, then a successful dink.

Swap 'hug' for 'urinate on'-- and I think we're good here!

Watched the game on tape delay.
Great Team Win!!!
Glad that Saka overcame the initial miss with another soft lob to score, and for Martinelli to get on the board after so much hard work!
Unreal moment for this squad, Arteta, and the fans!
Let's go!

Nope. Merino can play in his natural position in midfield. Loom at the second goal. Only Martinelli has the pace to destroy a high line.
A midfield three of Merino, Rice and Odegaard works just fine.
Front three of Saka, Nwaneri and Martinelli will do a number on PSG.
Remontada?! Mi gran culo gordo y peludo!
I apologize in advance but:

Doesn’t matter how much he smiles..he’s doesn’t get paid to do that.
Merino is NOT better than Havertz in any way, shape, or form at the central striker position. I respect your opinion sans the petty dig at raptora.
@JW1
WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? SHOW UP!!! You were talking a lot of shit!!!
And-- as I mentioned-- we absolutely had to keep our boots on their necks. Yay!
(So, you've been seething for a week-- to tell me I was right? OK. Thanks!)
Oh please acting like you weren't talking shit.
If I spoke the truth-- that's not talking poop.
But somehow that agitated you.
But hey, we're both right, and-- we're in the semis! Cheers!
REMONTADA DEEZ NUTZ!!!

What a player
Saw a photo that Saka did the same celebration as Henry when he scored at their gaff. Love it
Later saw Saka in a post-match interview-- said he'd never seen the Henry image.
Cool begats cool.
Thank you Mikel for guiding that win.
I am proud of this team so many heroes out there Dec above them all though.
Where are all the Mikel out trolls ? Not seen those pretenders here since we pocketed Madrid.
Love it
