The Times -

"Arsenal have started to explore how they could upgrade and expand the Emirates Stadium to try to catch up with their rivals’ match-day income.

The ground’s capacity of about 60,000 was the biggest in London when they moved from Highbury in 2006, but its size, catering and corporate facilities have since been surpassed by those of Tottenham Hotspur, who earn close to £6million from every match at their 62,850-capacity venue."

Where’s Rap to tell us how Eddie will bang at Palace. And how we should replace Øde.

Let's just say it what it is - corruption.

It stopped Arsenal from winning the title last year and it may just cost us again. As a player, you can tolerate only so much. If this season ends trophyless I just can't see how our best players will want to continue playing with their hands tied.

And Eddie doesn’t like to pass the ball

Yes he really does look very amateur at this level the shot he had came more out of panic unlucky even so but he is not at Premiership level he will probably score in the second half now.

No he didn’t. We did well to offload for decent cash . Really lacks any presence

At least 3 instances in the match tonight of the ball being played by the fouling team after a free is given. Not even being commented on. Ah well

So let’s get this right.

The ref was bias to Chelsea because he only booked Tosin yet gave Liverpool two penalties to Liverpool , failed to give Chelsea. Bias to which team ?

Saliba got sent off rightly but were the circumstances the same as Tosins? It was different for three simple reasons. One Raya was retreating, Sanchez wasn’t, Colwill was very close to cover White was nowhere close , the back pass meant the ball was in the direction of Arsenals goal that was simply not the case in the Chelsea v Liverpool game.

As for impact on the Wolves keeper that’s a possibility but come on that is a play that most clubs and yes even Arsenal adopt indeed the second goal at City was a clear example.

Then let’s look at Rice and Trossard they certainly aren’t close to being the only two players who have been booked for kicking the ball away . Neither were given a red for the offence they were given a yellow.

This type of mantra is nothing short of Untold conspiracy territory and it’s about there was some simple honesty on here

Pedro.

For what it's worth, i hereby share the fact that i'm done watching the PL.

This disgusting PGMOL/SKYSPORTS cocktail won yesterday.

The unfairness is just too much to take.

After all these banter years, we should be champions already, and it's too cruel of a bias fiesta show. It is unbearable.

Will follow from afar.

Keep the hopium going, i'll still get high with it.

LOVE

Feeling very much the same, if I’m honest

There's too much corruption in the EPL we all can see. How come City escape from 115 allegations while smaller clubs are penalised for similar offense? Why is it always Arsenal? Howard and the PGMOL should be investigated for corruption.

The EPL has lost its appeal to me.

City haven’t escaped yet

The 115 case is still ongoing. Won’t have a result on that for months

Good post

I think there is clear bias, unconscious or not, that needs to be addressed and eventually it will.

But until then, Johnny is correct in saying that the team have to just go above and beyond to make sure they aren't in these positions. Don't leave yourself open to it.

to an extent yes. However, there are things we cannot control and if the refs want to screw us they will somehow. This leads me to think, that outscoring teams is the only way. Major firepower.

Time for the premier league clubs (only takes 14 to agree) to withdraw from PGMOL and form a new better refereeing organisation, sourcing refs from all over, instead of just greater Manchester.

There are 3 stakeholders, fa, elf and pl. pretty sure that we could get UEFA interested as a stakeholder. They want their fingers in everything. We can take their interpretations, auto offsides included, be like watching Cl games….only difficulty is it might be a step towards a super league. Would seem to be some pretty heavy leverage on PGMOL.

So true. They aren’t for for purpose atm so something definitely needs to change. They’re clearing compromised in my eyes

Talk about killing the golden goose The PL is going to have an investigative journalist embarrass the shit of them one day!

I’ve been following Arsenal year round since 2012-13 and it has been clear from the beginning that we are reffed at a higher standard, which I suppose may be the Northern Bias (as a Yank I would have to take your word on it).

However, now it seems clear there is oil state corruption on top of the bias. Liverpool and Man U might feel a little protected cause they don’t get screwed every time but good luck with that when it comes down to a championship run with Man City! Liverpool knows how difficult this is… glad to hear their new coach has an issue well!

You've lost the plot. Like the town drunk telling everyone the world is ending, only it's blaming the referees for all the club's problems.

PIGMOL are incompetent, but all those red cards were self-inflicted and completely avoidable, but you have to keep the poor old plucky Arsenal are always the victims narrative to hide the fact the team were absolute dogshit even prior to the sending off.

Expand full comment

I think you are off the point being made here, it not this one game or this one red card. Tbh if we would not have gotten the two second yellows this post would not be written like this. Or if that close calls would not (nearly) always fall in favour of a Manchester club. We were crap Saturday and Saliba made a mistake and we can at best point out similar incidents when a red was not given.

How many times did VAR benefit us last season and the one before? Strangely enough, people here are silent on all those decisions. City got done over a few times. Every club gets shafted, and it's more important to focus on fixing the incompetence of the refereeing as a whole than acting like there is some grand conspiracy against Arsenal.

Peter is sneakily trying to craft this narrative that it's the ref's fault why Arsenal have been shite. It's embarrassing.

Expand full comment

Wasn’t that a major basis of the Calciopoli scandal, deliberately selecting refs on their known bias? The refs will be looking after City as ever this year, but also Liverpool, just in case something prevents City winning the league. Time for Arsenals Richard Garlick to earn his wage, with his previous job, he will know exactly what’s going on

Maybe everyone should stop the conspiracy theories. Last Season, City lost at Molineux with a goal from a guy (Hwang) that should have been sent off. They had the counter-attack stopped against Spurs. The goal against Liverpool at the Etihad dismissed for God-know-why against Liverpool. Etc. Thing is everyone is focused on his team and refuse to see that these shits happen to everyone. I do agree there's a lack of consistency. But why Saliba don't let the Bournemouth guy run? There was plenty of time, could have missed and so on.

And please, are we seriously considering that the PL which is currently at (legal/judiciary) war with City does everything to make them win? It's like saying mainstream medias want Trump to be Président. Come on...

Expand full comment

Conspiracy theories. Depends what you mean by them. If it involves mafia, offshore accounts etc, would tend to agree with you in this case . But referees have been proven to have been influenced in recent times, just read accounts of any number of ex refs about what Fergie tried, and largely got away with, aided and abetted by Scudamore who believed Utd good for the Premier League brand, and the useless Mike Riley who did what he was told by the powerful.

Not easy to explain, as Pedro mentions, the disparity of red cards between Arsenal and the rest in the last 5 years. Then, you watch Michael Oliver doing what he invariably does for City , and getting rewarded with a mid week gig in the Middle East. Why Arsenal? I have no idea. I know the media in general don’t like Arteta , the referees might have reason for a similar opinion , as he invariably calls their fuckups out.

If something looks dodgy, can’t deny it sometimes is, and doesn’t have to involve some deep dark conspiracy, quite often , probably just down nothing more than a grudge , a long held preference, media influence, following the crowd or a smart career move.
