Antoine Semenyo and lifelong Arsenal fan is a young winger I’m watching his development and wouldn’t mind a move for him if he tightens up his game and Martinelli and Trossard don’t lift their game.

That lad has quite the abundance of talent. Hope we don’t delay and his price rises like that of Kudus. Still can’t believe we didn’t sign him

just reading this makes me sick

1. every incident included 2 pics - saliba‘s none

2. the argument for tosin not getting sent off against pool is no control of the ball and distance to goal - both similar to saliba‘s

3. the multiple other instances where no red cards were given have not been mentioned, easy ride for webb

they obviously stopped caring to make any sense of their incompetence and different standards. I never had faith in webb for obvious reasons but at the beginning I actually thought he may make it a little bit better but I start to believe it‘s getting worse and worse

'Arsenal prospect Ethan Nwaneri scored the only goal of the game as England U19s beat Lithuania 1-0 in a European Championship qualifier today.

Myles Lewis-Skelly came on in the 72nd minute as he replaced Joshua King.

Nwaneri, who played the whole game and captained the team, now has a hugely impressive record of five goals in seven games for England at U19 level.'

Ball possesion is the best defense.

We were 6th in possesion last season.

Interceptions, tackles, defensive actions have zero corelation to shots allowed

Let that sink in.

Expand full comment

If ball possession is the best defence, but Arsenal had the 6th highest possession.

How did we end up with best defence?…

Game state usually dictates the direction of travel of games, but it’s vital for teams to be able to both apply and sustain pressure, and invite and evade pressure.

Whether the opposition try to press us high up the pitch, or whether they sit off in a mid to deep block, the bigger risk needs to lay with the opposition…

Damned if they press us, and damned if they don’t…

Your possession stats don’t tell the whole story, we may have had the 6th highest possession?..

But we had the highest percentage of our touches in the oppositions defensive third, and as a result faced the deepest defensive line..

We played the most positionally aggressive football in Europe last season, and we do this not just for offensive reasons, but also defensive reasoning.

While conceding the least opposition touches in our own penalty box and defensive third.

Players don’t pass to move the ball, they pass to move the opposition.

If we commit more players to attack, the opposition has to commit more players to defend…

And that’s how teams create territorial advantages.

Attackers who defend, and defenders who attack…

Is exactly how teams apply and sustain pressure high up the pitch, and they do this not just for offensive reasons..

But also to control the game as far away from their own goal as possible.

Our forwards need to pick it up, we’ve got a few forwards well out of form…

But at least in theory, we still have plenty of goals in the squad.

"Biggest Points Gaps Overturned In Premier League Title Races"

(Largest was Arsenal, 1997-98, a 13pt deficit 😁)

I see Partey is in the news again for the wrong reasons. At this point, I don't think he will be worth the distraction. We need to let him go for free in the summer and let Rice take over at DM which is his best position. Arsenal's image is being tarnished now whether the accusation is real or not.

Has he actually bene mentioned as the person in this case ever or it's just the usual bullshit rumors

I don't think papers are legally allowed to name him unless charges are brought against him. They will be sued if they do that.

Bullshit rumors or not, the woman who accused him in the first place is still naming him despite the threat of defamation. And apparently he was questioned again this week. The rumor alone is damaging to Arsenal's image because people are talking about him.

I am not here to be judge and jury. I just don't want this to continue past this season. Let him go on a free. Despite him playing well this season and remaining fit, he is an injury risk, declining and on huge wages anyway. These allegations make it an even riskier investment. We need to go our separate ways in the summer. We have Rice and we need to put him back in to his best position.

Habesha when did we come to a world that a woman’s word must trump a famous man’s testimony? The man hasn’t been arrested for a reason. Clearly the case from the lad from Man City hasn’t convinced you that women lie and make up stories to make money. In your mind Partey is basically guilty until proven innocent. Yikes! Hope you or someone you value never gets into a pickle and has people judging you or them on that standard

I haven't said he is guilty. Of course women lie too. Read please. I am not here to judge. I haven't said burn him at the stake. That is for the police and the court to determine whether he is guilty or not. I am of the opinion of innocent until proven guilty (unless there is Greenwood like evidence in public).

I said we should part ways at the end of the season. I don't want a player with continued allegations (whether they are true or not), who is injury prone, on huge wages, in his thirties and seemingly on the decline at Arsenal longterm. The speculation isn't worth it. And Arsenal's image is being tarnished because of the public court of opinion regardless of whether he did it or not. So he is a free agent in the summer. I would just let him go and not offer him a new deal. That is all I said.

Say we give him a new 2 year deal, he gets injured again for much of next season and then these allegations resurface again (whether they are true or not), would he be worth the investment? I don't think so. That is why I wouldn't take the risk on him. Find another player.

What you're doing is indeed very shameful

You're using innuendoes to attack a player you obviously do not like , a player you want gone. obviously Arsenal have better information than you and that's why they keep playing him.

You have no idea of whatever case you're talking about because it is unreported but that won't stop you.

Are you dumb?

A player you don't like????

I literally had to fight you over the 40 mil price tag when we signed him when you were suggesting we sign Hoijberg for 20m? Or did you forget that? I remember you countless posts about how he is no better than Hoijberg who spurs are getting half price.

At his best, he is probably close to the best #6s in world football. And I have criticized him this season for letting players run off him. Since the PSG game he has played really well and I haven't criticized him once. And I think we should use him this season as long as he isn't charged for these allegations. And I haven't said stop playing him either which you completely created out of thin air. As long as he isn't charged and his performances are up to recent standards he should play. But end of the season is a different conversation because he is a free agent.

We shouldn't offer him a new deal. He is injury prone, on huge wages and there are continued allegations against him that is annoying. I think he is 32 by the end of his contract too. I said do not offer him a new deal because he isn't worth the risk. We need to move on.

I don't hate him because he hasn't been found guilty of anything. But just like I wouldn't sign a player who has allegations and talks over him, I wouldn't give him a new deal.

That is all I said. Stop being dumb.

Totally unrelated to the (far more important) original post

But I see Nico Williams only has 1 league goal and 1 assist so far this season. Last season he only had 5 league goals (though an impressive 12 assists)

I did wonder in the euros if he was being a bit overblown as this massive prospect and whilst I’ve not been watching him so these stats might not be very reflective, his numbers don’t exactly shout ‘upgrade on Martinelli’ so far

Expand full comment

I said in the summer, he wasn't the player people thought he was. People were talking about him like he was prime Neymar. The form in the Euros completely blinded people.

He is just a good 21 year old winger that needed to develop. He is a really good talent that can get better in a top team. But he needs time. I am not sure there are superstar wingers at the moment.

Expand full comment

Signing players is about identifying profiles to fit the system.

Arsenal play with touchline wingers, there’s not much value in signing a purely right sided winger.

Because unless Saka gets injured, that players playing time will be limited.

So we have to sign a touchline winger that can play both sides and is ambidextrous, so they can take minutes off both Saka + Martinelli.

Pedro Neto would have been perfect, but with his injury history, would have carried significant risk.

Williams is an ambidextrous touchline winger who can play both sides.

He fits our system and needs like a glove, he’d also add serious pace to our forward options that’s much needed.

The player I love is Kudus, stylistically he’d be a perfect fit, he’s a duel monster, versatile, PL proven, with good end product, and a bit of magic.

Would be incredibly expensive, but if we could offset roughly half the fee through fucking off one of Jesus or Trossard to Saudi..

It’s something I could easily get onboard with.

I like Trossard, but he’s almost 30, has 18 months on his deal.. £40 million would be excellent business

We could age down to a player with a longer shelf life, and add some real power + aggression to our forward options.

Rafa Leao is the dream and even his stats aren't that great this season, we need players that can actually take on their defenders and not the head down meecahnt thing Martinelli seems to not have outgrown.

Not hot on Nico Williams

Expand full comment

Rafa Leao has gotten a lot of unsupportive feedback from the fans who watch serie A. He's a head down merchant that doesn't connect well with the team. He's just a better dribbler than Martinelli.

Expand full comment

More pace, more directness and more flair, love Martinelli but he's the ultimate head down merchant and Leao being labelled as one is quite funny

Expand full comment

More pace is wrong.

Better on the ball, for sure. Leao is a taller and better Doku.

Martinelli is vastly superior off the ball in every aspect including pressing, defending the wing, making runs behind the defence.

It's horses for courses.

We haven't been using Martinelli to his potential. We have to move the ball forward way faster to create the chances for Martinelli where he runs and receives the ball behind the defence. We can always create situations like that even against teams that defend with 11 players - Raya throwing the ball after an opposition attack, quick play after defending a corner etc.

It's a matter of being adventurous enough on the ball and we haven't been like that in this and last season.

We have Martinelli and fans are focused on his shortcomings knowing well there isn't a perfect player anywhere. We have a top talent. Arteta should concentrate in using his best qualities but sadly, it doesn't look like he wants to tilt our team a bit more into the attack while sacrificing some defensive stability.

Moving the ball forward quicker so a fast player similar to Theo like Martinelli, can run into space, involves risky passes in midfield and apparently Arteta won't have any of that. We need that variation though so I hope they are working on it.

Expand full comment

I agree with you on variation to our attacking play, it's 90% of the time quite predictable to be honest and like I said in my reply to Habesha, maybe we don't need our attacking players putting in defensive shifts all the time, makes us such a stiff unit going forward.

But I'm afraid if we seriously want to win the big ones, we need a new Frontline that only has Saka from the current bunch as a starter, Martinelli is a good squad player but at the moment, we don't win anything with him and our current starting striker I'm afriad

Expand full comment

I’m sure I saw Leao run the length of the pitch almost in a game against Napoli, to set up Giroud I think? I wouldn’t have him down as a head down merchant personally.

I mean you can instantly tell folks who don't watch enough football

Leao is great when you give him the ball. But I do question his work ethic sometimes. I see a bit of Rashford-ish behavior sometimes.

But as a pure attacker that can take on his man and put the ball in the back of the net, he is fantastic. Just don't think Arteta will prefer him because he won't run enough.

Expand full comment

I don’t think diversity is important in reffereeing, just quality. If all the best refs are black, have all black refs. If they’re white, have them instead. Shoehorning in people based on their race is not how you improve quality. If there are quality refs of other ethnicities in the lower league, promote them ASAP because they are better than the dross we have, not because of the colour of their skin. Otherwise you end up with diversity hires added to tick DEI boxes but who don’t actually improve the quality (lack of) we suffer through every weekend.

Agree on all the other points tho. How the PGMOL cabal has got this far and lasted this long is a total mystery. That they are in cahoots with the media to protect their image is even more insane.

Disband the whole thing and build anew with an ACCOUNTABLE organization and see how quickly the improvement arrive. All of your suggestions (apart from DEI box ticking) are good tho Pedro 👍

Expand full comment

There is nothing that is open to all and competitive that you won't have diversity. Just open your eyes and your mind. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! Why do you have black players and no black referees? Is it because the job is so hard that black people can't understand it? No one is asking for people political, social or media show. Just make it open to all and without let or favour. Tell me just one profession which is open to all and there is no diversity.

Expand full comment

It doesn’t work like this. What percentage of people applying for jobs on a building site are female? What percentage of people who apply for kindergarten teacher roles are male? What percentage of applicants to join the British Air Force are non-white and/or non-male.

Our air force was caught forcefully rejecting capable white male applicants so that it could pursue targets of having perfect representation of skin colours, religious beliefs, reproductive organs etc etc

So if Britain goes to war, peoples lives are going to be in the hands not of those best qualified and capable of defending the country, but of diversity hires. That was leaked to the media and those in charge got a slap on the wrist for it. And that’s positively terrifying, as well as being racist as fuck

Expand full comment

You are comparing percentage of female working in the construction industry to black people working as a referee? Wow! So you are saying black people are not suitable to referee. Tell me why please.

Expand full comment

The question of why are there virtually no black refs despite the diversity of the game is a great one to ask. Don’t disagree

But I’d also ask how many black people are trying to break into that profession? The answer to that question is critical because if the answer is statistically significant then yes we would expect to see plenty of black refs. If the answer is very few, then we should stop assuming the numbers are indicative of racism.

To present it another way, if the PGMOL are so white just because they’re racist, why don’t we see pretty frequent examples of black players being treated worse by them than white players?

We’ve had 3 red cards this season and the most dubious one was our white Englishman rice. Second most dubious was a white Belgian. Most justifiable of all was our black Frenchman. I’m not saying those 3 decisions are completely representative of PGMOL but I do seriously question why when PGMOL is rife with bias and corruption, that if it was racist, why doesn’t that appear to play out in their decisions on the pitch?

Expand full comment

you assume the playing field is the same for everyone. You casually ignore that racism and opportunity are intertwined. what a utopian view of society you have . If folks feel they have little chance for certain careers etc, then they will NOT bother.

Expand full comment

I agree with you but I also agree that having diversity breaks up the old boys network, homogeneous grouping and adds to the diversity that is the prem. Refs should look like all of us, and be good. Would you only have black refs in the prem for ex? How would that go over ?

Expand full comment

Arsenal rocked up with an all black starting 11 one time around about 2004. Didn’t bother me in the slightest because the players were picked based on merit. They were our best chance of winning that game and wenger had selected wisely

I would be absolutely mortified to know that we insist on picking some players because we’re worried that white people will be sad if we don’t force inferior white players into the lineup.

Reverse discrimination is discrimination and doesn’t do anyone any favors as it patronizes minorities applying for jobs by saying we are hiring you as a diversity pick because we don’t think you’re actually good enough on your own merits.
