Chelsea is the only team to enter and exit the Europa League without playing a single match.

Its hard not to look at United and want that FA cup that they won. Its also hard for United not to look at our competitiveness this season in the league and want to be us.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle for both set of fans. We want to be this competitive and then win cups. Same as them.

Ten Hag is not nearly as bad as many fans here have made him out to be. Over 660 injuries and not having to play with recognised defenders for weeks can make anyone finish 8th. Still he finished 8th and An FA cup. Arteta's second season without injuries like that finished 8th and out of Europe entirely.

But with that being said, I'd rather Arteta than Ten Hagg at this moment. My United mates can troll me for winning the competitiveness trophy this season but I know it's deeply rooted in jealousy. They still won't have a chance to win the league next season unless by miracle and we will still be with a chance to win the league next season (favorites I should say) unless we tank it again.

Dude, you’re proving our point for us, we’re not the enemy you think we are.

The only reason we have statements as you’ve listed above (longest time at the top trophy etc) is because everyone is hurting from not winning but are trying to focus on the good bits because they can see this is heading somewhere great.

It’s not a pisstake to quote those statements, you’re simply drawing attention to the pain and hope that we Arsenal fans all have. All of us.

Now come on fella. Yeah.

Saying things like “Arteta must win a trophy next year or else he’s gone” is, for me at least, missing the point.

Best to make that assessment at the time and to consider the context of the season we’d had. If you don’t do that, but simply demand a trophy, then you’re really denying yourself the chance to get a full understanding, and appreciation for the story of a season. Context is everything.

Expand full comment

Exactly! Context may not be everything but it is always a factor in making decisions - in this case about players and the manager. Would we be having this discussion if a few shots and a few decisions over the year were different and we ended up champions. That’s the context of this year, almost but not quite. Now, if we ended up 8th with a little cup, we should be talking about a new manager.

Expand full comment

The "context" would be that once again Arteta fails to deliver a trophy for third season in a row after having the entire starting xi replaced to accommodate him and his system.

You don’t know the context yet. It hasn’t happened.

“The rule is, jam tomorrow and jam yesterday—but never jam today.”

I am sick of this being arsenal philosophy for over a decade now, winning trophies is entire point of sports and Arteta has to prove that hes capable of winning and he not just a 'nearly man' who only gets you close but not over the line.

But he’s up against the most corrupt side ever witnessed in the History of football with infinite cash reserves? What is anyone to do do? Please advise who can beat this & how long & how much will it take? Please, please tell me.Im dying to know who the genius is?

Klopp managed to figure it out, now we wait for Arteta to see if he same ability.

Errrr, klopppy didn’t.In fact he’s packed it in.Literally given up on trying to overcome the ‘ Machine’.One CL & one title does not a summer make as he’s found out.

Silly example for the dimwits: Arteta gets 100pts and goes unbeaten the whole season, while City reach 101 on the last day. Sack the manager? Or take in the wider context of the exceptional achievement of 100pts and ANOTHER unbeaten season, even though you don’t get a trophy for that?

Expand full comment

Let me guess, we also lost the CL final to Real on pens, FA cup to City on coin toss after 2hrs of continuous penalty shootout in which all players scored, and the league cup semifinal second leg to Pool but only after our entire first team got food poisoning and Arteta lined up our academy kids in the heroic loss?

I think Arteta stays?!

Again, a very petulant attitude that is completely unsympathetic to context. There’s too many examples of successful clubs investing time and patience to managers and teams who go on to be successful. You know that well enough.

I’d say you guys demanding trophies or else, have no charm, but you’d say: charm doesn’t win you trophies.

I’d say you guys claiming trophies are the only thing that matters, tells me you’re not appreciative of the growing improvements, but you’d say: there’s no trophy for most improved team

I’d say you guys who aren’t impressed with the scintillating football we’ve witnessed from our players the season are missing out, but you’d say: there’s no trophies given for that.

I’d say you guys who refuse to acknowledge the trajectory that Arteta has us on sees us playing some of the best football around is blinkered and stubborn, but you’d say: we don’t get a trophy for sexy football.

I’d say you guys who think the rest of us are happy to lose and accept mediocre levels of performance are grossly mistaken, but you’d say: I WANT A TROPHY,😢 I WANT A TROPHY NOW. 😢😢 I DON’T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ELSE. I WANT A TROPHY NOW I TELL YOU. NOW!

So which one of the Chocolate Factory kids are you guys? Because the only good one is Charlie and he appreciates and enjoys every room, but is patient and is rewarded. The others are cunts. It’s never too late to change 😘

Congratulations to United, the FA cup put a gloss on a very pathetic season, kinda like lipstick on a pig.

That has no bearing on us, not everything is about Arsenal. Yesterday was United’s

In the cold light of day, when all the euphoria is gone, they will still have finished 8th and will be playing on Thursday nights which will make it almost impossible to mount a league challenge next season.

Look I know you lot are as thick as shit but seriously? Yahnited fluked the FA cup.You know it,we know it,ETH knows( no matter how delusional he is),the whole football world knows it.Coventry, robbed, anyone?

Bearing that in mind & where we finished. There is NO comparison.FA cup? Pleaaase we ‘ ve won it more than anyone. Its not seriously on our radar. We have far bigger fish to fry & we’re close.Very, very close.I think that’s what really bothers the muppets who show up here to shit on Arsenal & Arteta.Thats the Truth.

Ben and his kind say they would rather come in 10th in the league but win trophies. So I assume he’s saying that that it was more enjoyable for a United fan this year just because they won a trophy. According to a friend and my son (both of whom are United supporters - I know, bad father, etc.) that is totally not true. The FA Cup was kind of a consolation prize for the bad year they had. My experience for the season, while often frustrating, was overall an enjoyable one. For the most part, we play good, and entertaining, football and are constantly competitive - totally unlike ManU. My football pleasure-meter was way higher than theirs over the past nine months.

The trophy less season conversation is very interesting but if you want a true realization of where this blog stands on the subject these days ask Pedro if winning a major trophy next season is a must.

I guarantee his answer will be not really.

Expand full comment

Nah, being positive doesn't mean most of us are deluded. Pedro might think we are still in a process, but the process has ended this season. We must win the premier league next season. It is a must. We can't expect a third heartbreak not to break us. It will kill off all the progress and the improvement we had and it will let the doubt that is already creeping in to be cemented in the players heads. So we must. Next year is make or break for us.

Vieira just needed to bulk up some, ten pounds or so, and then he would’ve taken this league by storm.

I blame his metabolism for this failure, not Arteta.

Expand full comment

Habeha Gooner

We have known for a very long time that Vieira is not fit for purpose when playing in EPL.

The surprise until now is that there was no suggestion that he would be leaving in this transfer window.

We know that Arsenal will be offloading Elneny, Partey and most probably Smith-Rowe this summer.

The club need if we play 4-3-3 system at least six midfielders. So the minimum number of recruits

if Vieira leaves and assuming that Havertz reverts to midfield would be at least two new midfielders.

I think we screwed the pooch with the Vieira purchase, that was an expensive punt to take on unknown, weedy player. I hope Vieira was well regarded in Portugal and someone will take him but I don't imagine we getting much of our investment back.

I remember Emirates writing that he was hearing from people that Vieira didn't have it physically a few months after we got him.

Expand full comment

First time I saw him play I wasnt convinced. He’s had moments of good football but even at best he’s never been brilliant. His poor physique isn’t compensated for by natural brilliance. He needs a slower less physical league.

Expand full comment

Yeah. I would loan him out to be honest. His value won't be as low as it is now. Loan him out to a Spanish club like Sociedad or Betis where he can get game time. Then we can sell when his value is a bit better.

We will need to bring in a deep CM and an attacking midfielder at minimum if ESR and Viera are leaving. Then we can debate if Nwaneri is ready to step up.

Expand full comment

According to the Athletic Mikel Arteta is concerned about the level of performances in training from Fabio Viera and is ready to sell him this summer. But his future might depend on whether ESR goes or not.

--‐-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Said this before, Viera has been an absolute flop. One of our worst signings in the last 3 years. And I said I would keep ESR before I would keep Viera months ago. And I still stand by that. It is just what the market will decide because we need to bring in money. And Viera is worth peanuts now. I would sell both if I have to and bring in one dependable attacking CM along with a deep CM to be honest and give Nwaneri whatever role Viera was playing for us, A 3rd choice attacking midfielder.

Bro, Honestly have you enjoyed competing with City at all? I know you care about winning but there has to be part of the season you have enjoyed? Every Arsenal fan I know doesn't think 2nd place is good enough every season and at some point we need to win the PL. But they see the progress. What is one thing you can say that is positive about Arteta? Just one?

Expand full comment

This whole bunch of crap these guys are posting is nonsense. What I wanted from Arsenal is to compete to be the best. That was the bare minimum. If you are there every year, eventually you will get it over the line. That is just how football is. We have had heartbreaks before and eventually went on to win titles. I and a lot of fans were miserable when we were competing for at best 4th and then trying to salvage the season with the odd Fa Cup. This whole bunch of shit that is being thrown will look so shit when we get the PL title over the line. And then these guys like Ben kind will go in to hiding then.

I can't see man u and chelsea going for Southgate and Mourihno respectively.

The new structure at Chelsea doesn't seem like a good fit for Mourinho

It seems like English football clubs are moving towards US style coaching models.

Multiple coaches, recruitment, data analysts etc.
