Well, f*ck you for imagining a 2* review. I thought we were friends?
Ethan is the short, creative king this team has been begging for over the past six weeks since we lost dearest Martin.
Sure, we’re minimizing the Gabi Jesus offering because of opposition standards, while in the same breath praising the world-class domination Ethan offered up. But that’s football punditry.
The starting 11 had a bit of a punishment 11 feel to it. I thought that, then retracted it, because really, this 11 was about a group of players keen to impress, keen to show off their teenage powers, and keen to get some minutes in legs that missed out at the weekend.
The 90 minutes did the job it needed to.
Gabriel Jesus accidentally scored from a lovely cushioned Kiwior header in the box. He looked shocked that his first-time instinctive strike ruffled the net for the first time since late January. The player has looked lost. His injuries, lack of form, and fluid identity as a player have caused him lots of problems… but last night, he looked like he’d found some peace. He scored and assisted for Ethan.
