Another fantastic performance from Saliba at LCB really puts the recent narrative that it’s hard to play LCB if you’re right footed to bed

It’s taken him all of one game to adapt and resume his dominant levels that were used to seeing at RCB.

——————————

Didn’t the France national team coach say just recently Saliba wasn’t ready, or a good fit, to justify his lack of call ups?

Looks like all Saliba needs to prove certain managers wrong is a chance to play.

Exactly. And some will defend Deschamps that he did the right thing because he has gained more experience sitting on the bench haha! Just like he was sent to 2 1/2 years on loan to learn how to be better than Rob Holding.

We replaced Xhaka with Rice and goals from open play reduced.

So your point is that there is direct correlation between Rice playing for Arsenal and a reduction in open play goals?

As Rich wrote, this is not the only change. One difference was our ability to control games, conceding fewer goals - being less gung ho and more controlling.

Your post has the smell of a sly dig.

We replaced Xhaka for Rice, and we secured an extra 5 points.

Played an extra 2 games in Europe, while competing at a higher level.

Scored an extra 3 league goals, conceded 14 less, giving us plus 17 goal difference from the previous season.

We also improved significantly in the 2nd half of the season once Rice, Havertz, Raya, had all found their bearings.

We signing those players for an initial 5 seasons, so it’s good that they’re trending with the team in the right direction.

Setpiece goals and counter attack goals thanks to Raya.

Conceded less because Ramsdale was benched and Saliba played max minutes.

Whoever Kevin Garside is, he seems to have a good analysis.

Who is Kevin Garside and how did get a job as any kind of correspondent, let alone a 'chief' one. Beggars belief..... that the reason for England's woes is Rice anchoring the midfield.

I find it remarkable that Chelsea can sell Omari Hutchinson to Ipswich for £20 million when his

transfermarkt valuation is just EUROS 7 Million [around £5.5 Million].

Yet Arsenal appear incapable to sell Lokonga with a significantly higher valuation. We appear to be

accepting a loan deal to Seville with no obligation to buy.

Chelsea are a club who have become "commodity" traders buying and selling players and presumably making money out of these transactions. Surely there has to be a lesson to be learned

from the way that they operate.

Obviously I want Arsenal to operate as a football club and not one whose function is to horse trade

players, but there needs to be more ruthlessness when we sell our players than appears to be

case.

Precisely my point

This is why I think it's strange that some think that we can only get £30-35 million for Eddie because of his wages. Chelski seem to sell with a premium. So why can't we?

And we should. We are the 2nd best team in the League and that should count for something.

So asking for £50 million for a CF in a market where CF's are rare should not be an outrageous demand.

Meanwhile Chelsea sold one more academy guy for 20 M can't even name him. For us offcourse nobody is good enough not ESR, Nketia is EFL level striker while Nelson is a one goal wonder. We are in Phase 5 and destined to win the damn thing next season folks.

Expand full comment

😂😂😂 That is Omari Hutchinson. And he was our academy player. He left a year or two ago because his deal was expiring. The rest of the deals are PSR loop holes.

Expand full comment

His deal indeed was expiring but yet again there doesn’t seem to be any sort of gamble on players like Omari. Loans don’t seem to be that well thought out so it seems to be first team squad or bust.

Chelsea effectively signed him for circa double wages that Arsenal were said to have offered , hand pick which club he was to go on loan to, gave him a brief debut to show him what could be on offer.

Will he hack it in the PL? Far from sure but Chelsea pocket circa £18 million and Arsenal £3 million.

As for PSR loop holes I keep hearing that phrase but them getting £35 million for a CL finalist aged 21 ish seems reasonable but irrespective selling players isn’t a loop holes just as signing Raya as it has been done it’s simply a pragmatic approach to rules that are not constructed at all well

Expand full comment

I am talking about all the other sales. Elliot Anderson to Forrest for 35 mil, some unknown kid from villa to chelsea for 19 mil to balance out the Mattsen sale to villa , Everton and villa did the same as well. All these transfers are inflated to help with PSR and are not real transfers. Some like Omari to ipswich are actually real transfers.

So we cant base our player values on the PSR deals. Just the real ones.

Wrong check your facts. Chelsea sold Marc Gulu a center defender recently. News came after Omari.

If you’re playing in a CB, CB or CF role being left or right footed is broadly irrelevant.

He looked uncomfortable the first game. And top players will adapt. But for some it will take time to adjust to the passing angles and body angles in defensive positions. I had no doubts he could do it, once he got familiar with the role.

We scored all our pens against this Costa. He is a top keeper. We should be targeting him the summer after this one. But I doubt he will stay there. Ederson apparently is trying to move to Saudi so City will sign him.

Diogo Costa ... slamming the door on Slovenia and saving Ronaldo's embarrassing tears. Is all I got out of that one.. mainly.

Sesko showed why he is still so raw. That has been the reason I would rather sign a Winger this summer. There are no clear top strikers this summer. Get that top winger.

Nico Williams, Kudus had a £85 mil release clause till yesterday, I wanted Olise but he went to Bayern. Neto was also in my list but injuries make it a No now. Xavi Simons would be a dream signing too. Can play behind the striker anywhere.

There are still a few good players. The winger market is much better than the CF market. Brahim Diaz at Madrid, Bakayoko at PSV, Conceição at Porto are some of the names.

Chelsea can't wait for the Euros to be over, so they can tap up and buy Own Goal.

I suspect that the club is looking at players who are competing in Europe and Latin America at the moment. So, we won’t see any movement before late July. The US tour will therefore be lightweight as usual, which is a shame for the devoted American fans.

Expand full comment

Personally, I hope not. Buying players based on a tournament usually never ends well, like the end result of a candle. Flattery to deceive [Arshavin, Andrey for example].

I want to believe Arsenal knows who they want [Euros/Copa America or not] and have already made preliminary moves. I love how quiet they are. Best for a curveball like Fabio Vieira [not saying he has worked out, but the shock unveiling].

Not true. We got goal machine Jon Jensen off the back of the Euro's.

That Bellingham goal will cost Arsenal next season.

Saka and Rice loading 120 minutes onto their odometer, with a possible 3 more games still to go before kicking back with some margaritas in their hands, has a disaster written all over it for us in the league.

"Imagine him in Milan, picking up some Italian mannerisms. I’d love to see it."

The question is would Ramsdale love to be learning 'new mannerisms' in Italy/Spain or is he content to be paid £140,000 a week to sit on bench while living a good life with his wife and kids who are now financially secure because of our manager.

I'm fairly relaxed over transfers. I'm sure we'll do what we have to in plenty of time.

Me too, our transfers were kept quiet last summer - other than Rice deal - so I expect Edu operating same way this summer. It's how it should be done - no leaks to press, let edu work in private, deal will be announced when finalized.
