Great read Pedro. Have people forgotten both Nelson & Edie were free agents & were walking away for free? when they gotten the 100k contract we had no leverage but to give them that much. If we manage to get more than 10mil for both players, we are making huge profits. I’m okay with the club’s decision to wait for the right player, I’m confident we have enough talent to get 9 points for the first 3 games before the window closes. We need to relax a little

Exactly! These are just sad people that can’t enjoy anything and so they love shitting on our management and projecting their own failures onto us. It’s not like Arteta Edu & co are infallible, but we were in a sorry state and they have turned our club around to be title challengers.

Thank you, i can’t even get excited for the new season before someone starts yapping about how much edu holding Eddie hostage & we should sell him for whatever fee we’re being offered. There’s always something to kill edu for year after year, it’s tiring.

Keep being positive Pedro, you’re one of the most reasonable people I’ve seen through the arsenal circle and we love you for it. Big love 🫶🏾

Not Pedro, sorry but 100% on the sentiment. Between Le Grove and Arseblog my news/commentary needs are satisfied. It’s a shame that there are some shitty negative people on here but over time you learn their names and it’s always the same morons that shake their fists and complain in the comments because the pub is closed or they have no friends. Most people here are reasonable and it’s a great place for discussion and I learn a lot from listening to other opinions.

There are some others as well - ‘The Different Knock’ on youtube is great. The podcasts from these sites as well as from the Athletic ‘Handbrake Off’ are worth a listen.

Haha no worries. I’m glad you’ve a positive attitude towards the club, it’s a rare thing these days. My Initial thoughts were that the fans needed their Arsenal fix & they would have a better mindset after watching some preseason games but right now I feel like it’s has nothing to do with missing Arsenal, it’s just who they are as a person. We’ve got a great taste it seems because I keep all of them in my daily rotation. If I may suggest, check out” purely arsenal podcast & the Arsenal therapy podcast” they provide great content as well. Great to have you here, Pedro would like readers like you supporting his excellent work. COYG

For anyone who has high hopes of city getting punished this season, definitely won’t happen.

Even tho the hearing is supposed to conclude this year they are not expected to give a verdict before March (stretch it out as long as possible) and when city inevitably appeal the punishments won’t apply until after that’s reviewed later in 2025.

This once again shows the pointless folly of bundling 9 years worth of charges into a single case. All they had to do in feb 2022 was do small batches of charges at a time so they could quickly reach decisions. And move onto the next batch. If they’d done this Arsenal would be aiming for a third consecutive title this season….

Erik ten Haggard only knows how to sign his former players. Pathetic manager and finished club. Here's to them and Chelsea finishing midtable.

Chelsea are a proper joke

So Cole Palmar, the purple patch lad had a great season but he had SEVEN years left on his contract.

You would think SEVEN years is enough contract security for any club, not the morons at Chelsea, they had to extend the contract to NINE years.

When Boehly and his merrymen are done, there won't be a Chelsea FC again.

Some people still think Matthijs de Ligt is the exciting young prospect that he was in 2019 when Ajax made that CL run

He wasn't good at Juve and was worse at Bayern. The player that United are getting in 2024 is busted flush. If Eric Dier benched you and sent you to the transfer pound, then you cant be that good.

Expand full comment

To be honest Bayern fans are sad that he left. You can guage the ability of a player by what fans think of him.

I don't think he will ever be the elite CB people thought he was going to be. But he is still decent. He is a dependable player and is better than what they have. And he will give Yoro time to settle. They also have Martinez. I would say it is a good move from United, if he can stay fit.

Manchester United is inexorably becoming Ajax West.

Yeah, we can't be happy when we sell players for less than what we should.. and we can't be happy if we stick to the valuation we think of a player, and the other club taps out.

From Sociedad's perspective, they don't think 35 million is too high since the likes of Connor Gallagher are going for 34 million.

We will probably pay about 25-30 million in the last week of the window, which is a snip if that's the player that helps us fix the left side and win the league.

I fear that we don't have a plan B of the same calibre

I'm very calm about transfers, as our club can afford to be.

For example, If Socieded are asking for a silly price for Merino with one year left, and they think we're desperate because the season starts soon- they are wrong. We are fine for now with a reasonably fit Partey, Jorginho, and Rice for te first few games. They all know the system and what's required.

Sociedad think they deserve a massive premium because Merino scored a big goal as Spain won Europe.. they're being unrealistic and a little greedy.

If he's so valuable to them, why did they let his contract run down to a final season?

We won't panic or overpay. Same as we're not accepting low offers for our sales.

Cole Palmer commits future to Chelsea by signing 2yr contract extension. 22yo England attacker already tied down until 2031; terms now through to June 2033. Rewards brilliant debut season after joining from Manchester City.

____________________________________________________________________________

9 year deal haha! I thought part of signing them on giga long contracts, other than working the system with PSR, was to have the luxury of not renegotiating contracts for a while. Turns out Palmer gets improved terms after 1 season with them. Longer contracts as a way to pay lower salary isn't a viable strategy.

Boehly & co just make stupid decision after stupid decision; so stupid in fact that I sometimes wonder if they know something we don’t and over time their ‘strategy’ will reveal itself to be a genius master plan that bamboozles everyone with it’s long-term success. Surely they can’t be this fucking stupid right?!

What about the players signing the contracts? The stupidity seems to be shared around...

The opposite surely? I think we forget sometimes that football is a career, with a limited timespan, that could be cut short at any minute due to injury or some other reason.

Forget for a moment that it’s football and imagine:

- you know you are retiring at let’s say 35

- you could be forcibly retired at any moment

- you need to make enough money to live off the rest of your life

- and provide for a family

You’re 21

Someone offers you a 45 million pound contract over 9 years

In exchange for the rights to your player registration

At the end of the day, your obligation is simply to show up for work

You’re going to turn that down for what reason?

There are no guarantees, except the written contract you have been offered.

I have this nagging feeling that City are about to go big on Bruno Guimaraes. They will basically replace Alvarez as a false 9 with one of Debruyne, Foden or Bernardo playing backup to Haaland. And Rodri, Guimaraes and Kovacic being the anchor players.

Could be wrong though. I hope I am wrong. If they add him, we are done for me. Teams won't even have a chance at their back line.

Can’t see Bruno leaving after his stated and gushing public desire to be a Toon Legend. That would be very embarrassing even for a thick skinned footballer

Yeah let's hope. If they add him we will be below them in midfield and in attack. Only our defense will be better. We will have to be water tight to have any chance if that happens.

Completely agree. Bruno G would be huge. It's a tough transfer still.

A huge outlay. A bit of a tension between the two clubs lately. Their fans would understand if he jumped ship to join an already developed winning team - City, Real, Bayern, Barca etc but we're not there yet.

Then you've got the video posted on his twitter account where there he made it seem like he declined Arsenal to join Newcastle. Then there's the elbow to Jorginho's face. It always looks like he's extra pumped up when he faces us.

It's complicated. Bruno G to Arsenal is probably a transfer that will never happen not because of the things above per se, I've just got that feeling.

We aren't getting another CM apart from Merino this summer. Partey and Jorginho staying nailed that coffin.

I hope they don't get him. Because new players always give City a boost. They already have Savio and Bobb motivated to make up for the tiny decline in desire. We don't need Bruno to add to that.

Arsenal are 10m euros short of Sociedad valuation for Merino. Arsenal want to pay 25m euros. Sociedad want close to 35m. Arsenal want transfer fee split into three equal installments. Sociedad want much of the fee upfront. Deal could drag till end of window.

Saw a report over the weekend saying that a reputable Spanish outlet (!) , contrary to most, suggests that Arsenal are yet to submit an offer for Merino despite the player's willingness to join.

Today, the media (eg Mirror) reports Arsenal would not match the €35m asking price given Merino into last 12mo of his contract. Bravo.

Let's not overpay and undersell, as long as we'd get a MF 8, forward &/or/striker and a 2nd goalie by end of this TW!, assuming Eddie, Nelson and Ramsdale would exit.
