Like the optimism but our problem hasnt been the big fixtures, weve not lost big 6 games ib the last 2 years so the talk if easy run ins doednt hold weight.

Its the lesser teams we lose points mostly to like Fulham twice last year and bournemouth this year, its the "easy" run in where we lose it.

If thats concentrarion level or not taking the opposition seriously i dont nnow but thats what we need to fix.

Couldn't have been said better and that's why when people use the "Liverpool haven't played the big teams" line as a way of putting them down, it's funny because it's against those so called "smaller" teams we tend to drop most of our points, at least in the last two seasons

I am still sombre and reeling from the draw with Chelsea yesterday.

Dropping 2 points from what was looking like a winning position was doleful.

I felt like grabbing Areteta's neck. It reminded me how far he still to go from being one of the best managers in the game.

We had absolutely no reason selling ESR. He would have been amazing in the games we've had play without Ode.

Areteta needs to learn how to trust more players than his favourites! No manager can ever succeed with only a pool of a few players withbthe number of matches on board.

However, sober hours later, I do feel there are still positives to our performances in that game with Ode back. We had more balance and apart from the lack of spark from our attack our defense is rapidly returning to being unreliable.

The defenders need to stop letting us down

Getting into top 4 was easy. All we did was get players from top teams like Jesus, Zinchenko, Partey.

Staying there and more importantly winning trophies needs longstuff

Rice is Not an #8. Soucek, who is Not very good played that position at Westham.

Its clear why we tried for Caicedo before Rice. Lavia also has a higher ceiling than Merino.

Some thoughts from yesterday.

- Kai worked tirelessly. Seriously the guy is such a hard worker and tacticians dream. But it wasn’t until Merino came on, did we started having a consistent presence in the box. I’ve mentioned before that Kai is probably not even top 10 in the league for finishing ability. He certainly doesn’t help his cause by not being in box and dropping so deep as frequently as he does, especially when we have such a defensive minded setup

- on current form, how many left wingers are ahead of Martinelli. Diaz, Neto, Son. He seems to have lost the ability to beat his man one v one.

- does Rice look like a 100m player. Like if we were to put him on the market right now, how much would he fetch. Are player losing value after joining Arsenal. We have Jesus, Zinchenko, Rice, where we’d be lucky to get back 70% of our investment

- Jesus after coming on, just seemed so uninterested. Hardly attacked the box, stayed around the half way line. Could this be the beginning on some sort of bad player vibes, sth we’ve been free off over the last 2 years

- Palmer looked easily the best player on the pitch. He’s really intelligent as well, always up the refs ass, trying to influence the narrative

- Neto looked the second best attacking playing or the pitch. Direct and with solutions

- Jackson looked and better and more penetrative than Kai

- Partey was the best player for us. If Arteta ever puts him at RB again, just slap him

- We need to allow our flair players some tactical freedom. That mazy run and shot from Timber, we need more of that

- Twice Fofana bypassed our entire structure and reached the 18 yard box. The same kind of space was allowed to Enzo and Neto for their goal. All these events happened in the space where Rice should have been

I agree with lots of your points but Palmer did sweet FA yesterday. He had barely a few good moments in the entire match. Very poor game from him despite him undoubtedly being a huge talent

After 18months and -100m, do we know what position we bought Rice for. Was it to play as the 6? On current evidence, is he anywhere near Partey at 6? Was it to play as an 8 ? Really, an 8 ?!?

Emery Arteta

2019/20 vs 2024/25:

11 Games 11

4 Wins 5

5 Draws 4

2 Lost 2

16 Goals 18

15 Conceded 12

17 Points 19

Interesting. Saw on twitter. Imagine this.

This hype of Smith Rowe is laughable.

Has anyone not seen his injury report over the past five years? Arteta owes his job to him and Saka. The lad has been a chandelier. Stop already. He didn’t stay healthy either be it from his own doing, poor medical treatment by the staff or just plain bad luck.

We all loved him but surely you can’t seriously get on the club for selling him for that kind of money

Expand full comment

What he said is ESR is better than Vieira. Yes or no. The fact that a player is constantly injured does not justify the purchase of a weaker replacement. And Vieira is always as injured as ESR anyway. He wasn't pulling down trees when he was bought and now that he's been sent back on loan, we haven't heard much about him than the fact that he wears number 10. I'm sure if he's doing well, people like your would have informed us.

Expand full comment

How can you say he’s better when he was never bloody healthy? You can’t be better than someone when you’re always Crocked. Love ESR but those are just facts. Viera was a thoughtless waste of money. At least we made money on ESR is the best I can say about that point

Expand full comment

You still have not answered the question. Is Vieira better than ESR? Was Viera ever fit or healthier than ESR when he was here? How is he doing now an a pawpaw league?

Expand full comment

Dunno what pawpaw is but I never rated Viera. That was a trash signing by Arteta.

Again answer the bloody question. If Arteta isn’t the answer name two coach’s you’d rather have ….

ESR was injured for long periods but towards the end for more than 5 months, he was always fit. But the boss just prefered other options like Veira who was worse. ESR left healthy. He was healthy for a while at arsenal and played a couple of times as well

Olumide I’m all about respect of opinions but come on Mate.

“ Questionable talent ID (Saw Jesus and Zinchenko enough times in City training and still bought them. Bought Fabio Vieira when he had Smith Rowe who's better. And more)”

Jesus and Zinchy in their first seasons were brilliant for us until injuries derailed them. Those are just the facts. Jesus hasn’t been the same after his first two knee surgeries.

Fabio Viera was a trash buy but how can you make a comparison to Smith Rowe? We all love ESR but the guy spent more time in the rehab clinic than a pig in a mud pit. Sorry those points don’t add up in your indictment of Arteta .

Sorry but in a league as competitive as this it’s the small margins. And if your team is missing its best players then the margins get even tighter. Ask the great Pep Guardiola

Expand full comment

"ESR spent more time in the rehab clinic"

Partey was robust before he came to Arsenal. Now, he's a crock.

Rice rarely got injured before he came to Arsenal. Now, he's playing with a broken toe.

Ben White was robust before he came to Arsenal. He's now having injury and fitness issues.

Maybe we should ask Arteta how he manages the squad.

Expand full comment

Erm Partey was a younger version of himself at Athletico and lord knows that the EPL is much more physically intense and demanding than La Liga so your point isn’t valid.

At West Ham Rice had a different role. He has multiple roles at Arsenal and it has taken a toll on him but that has nothing to do with Arteta. Bigger club and bigger role

Expand full comment

"Jesus and Zinny were brilliant."

Okay. How come our best performances were when they were out of the squad?

What was Jesus' G/A when he was 'brilliant'? Let's compare it to Auba and Laca (who many of you said were shit).

And I don't understand this small margins bullshit. Because this nonsense came with Arteta.

I don't want to play small margins against Southampton, Leicester, and Bournemouth.

'Ask the great Pep' Well, he's still 4 points clear of Arsenal despite all the injuries and the so called 'struggle'.

Wait what are you on about?

What was our record prior to the Qatar World Cup? We were on top of the league and surprising everyone with the quality of our play and winning big games. Dude I don’t know why you’re hooked on the negativity drug. If you despise Arteta just say it and let’s not waste each others time.

But while you’re at it please state two or three alternatives to Arteta

Expand full comment

If you think only Pep can do better than Arteta has done in the past 5 years with the amount of money spent, then you need to watch more football.

Watch other teams and see what their managers do.

Arteta makes too many mistakes to be a top manager.

Questionable talent ID (Saw Jesus and Zinchenko enough times in City training and still bought them. Bought Fabio Vieira when he had Smith Rowe who's better. And more)

Poor squad management (has a preferred 11 and uses them until they break down. You can literally be playing most games for Arteta and just get freezed out. Did the player just go from excellent to shit?)

Poor squad building (buy defenders and neglect the attack)

Rigid tactics (Everyone can see tactics is not working and Arteta freezes on the touchline.)

And there are even more.

Everyone will realize that Arteta isn't the one to take Arsenal to where we want (winning trophies). We'll just get to the realization at different times.

Olumide,

Give us a better idea of how to take down the most well funded team in football. Double our wage bill. Insane transfer spend over 10 years. Been doing it for far longer than Arsenal at an insane level.

Tell us who is the guy for you and explain what they'd do differently?

Need some actual ideas, not just banging the table.

Julian Nagelsmann

Simone Inzaghi

Hansi Flick

Xabi Alonso

Carlo Ancelotti

Those are managers with actual experience of winning titles.

And I won't even give them 5 years at Arsenal to show how good they are. Because no good coach needs 5 years to show how good they are.

And it's funny you use City as the excuse all the time. You conveniently forget Arteta got 8th, 8th, and 5th with a squad YOU said was good enough for top 4 two months before Arteta was hired.

Expand full comment

This list, bar Xavi Alonso, feels like the: Erik Ten Haag, Thomas Tuchel, Mourinho, Conte of two years ago.

You actually have zero understanding of how these managers operate and what makes them succeed. You also don't understand the context of the Premier League and how good it is compared to all those manager who have succeeded in two club leagues (or Carlo, who succeeded at a doped Chelsea).

Nagelsmann, your number one pick, was kicked out of Bayern because he didn't like conflict with big players. That's what you think our dressing room needs?

Carlo, currently can't get a turn out of Mbappe, and is solely good at managing in leagues when he is the richest coach. Great motivator, not a coach on the level with the best anymore. Read up on what the Bayern players said about his coaching.

Hansi Flick, you're just recommending him because Barca are doing well right now.

Only coach that is remotely interesting for Arsenal is Alonso. Your take is he takes us the extra two points because...?

Final point. United, Chelsea and Liverpool missed all these names in the summer. Why?

Expand full comment

Very unserious question Pedro. They are about 1 million coaches out there. The suits can scout up and sign anyone anytime. 1 week before Slot was hired, many people including you either didn't know him or paid attention to him. Replacing a coach (that's fumbling anyway) is about the easiest thing a club can do

So that's 6 points lost against top 6 teams which we could have won if we had a better striker, were more streetwise or didn't get unlucky with idiotic refereeing decisions. All of them pain in equal measure: last minute equalizer at City, last minute wrong offside call against Liverpool and Trossard snatching an injury time tap in for Havertz at Chelsea. Sadly, with those lost points we have prolly lost the league and have succeeded in putting the spotlight on Arteta after 5 years of overindulgence.

I'm deflated and don't know what to do with myself. If Liverpool win it then I'll be absolutely gutted because this was a team we've bested in the league the last two seasons and whose new coach refused to add to their team.

Let's pray we do the impossible now. I can't stomach another year of trying and missing out. And I'm sure I speak for a lot of Arsenal fans.

while it was a disappointing result, we played well and should have won

I am mostly positive. But we needed to win today. A 3 game swing is going to need perfection from us and a complete collapse from Liverpool. And I don't see that happening.

We have had a horrendous run where we have picked up, 2 points from a possible 12. That is where league titles are won and lost. And I think we surrendered it today. I think we will get close. But overtaking them to win the league is going to be a tough task.

It has always been a pattern, the collapse. In 2022/2023 it was in May, 2023 /2024, it was in Nov/Dec. Now it came much earlier. Just wait and see how people begin to hype our record long undefeated run that will still win us zilch.

Half excited for the international break for a change. Last month has been thoroughly depressing. Results wise and performance wise. Thought the return of Ode definitely improved things, but I’m still disappointed as I felt Chelsea was there for the taking. This kind of fixture last season we would have bossed, but we seem to be lacking confidence and bite.
