I said this couple of weeks ago:

"He looks to me similar to Jorginho. He's slow tempo, safe passing, very good at moving the ball forward, great long balls, superb in buildup, press-resistant.

Some characteristics of Ode for sure.

Except he can tackle, wins duels both ground and aerial, he can ride a challenge and can make a killer pass every now and then."

Then Christian came two-footed claiming I haven't watched him and how I've given him A+ on everything. I literally compared him to Jorginho lol. Is Jorgi A+ on everything?! A good all-rounder for sure.

Christian: "First of all he’s a poor defender one vs one especially when drawn out on an island. His passing last season was middling … he’s decent under the press I must say as he has good football intelligence but for the money and expectations on performance … nah I don’t see it.

You said he could control a game like Odegaard, no? That’s sacrilege even for you"

I responded: "Ode is strolling around passing to the closest player. Zubi can do that."

I think the same after watching the 2 NT games. Safety first, good under pressure, decent physically. It's a younger Jorgi but Jorgi is a highly successful player and loved by all of his past and current managers. Arteta a huge fan, especially (and Pep).

So what’s your point?

Would you or won’t you be willing to pay sixty million for a player inferior to Partey and Jorginho?

Especially given how much we need a striker.

Go ahead, I await your answer

Yep, He is closer to Jorginho than a Partey, a Rice, or a Rodri.

Safety first, keep it moving, be in the right space to make an interception and win tackles with in the space he manages. His defensive numbers are actually good.

That is Jorginho in a nutshell. But Jorginho has some creative gene in attacking spaces when he threads passes at times.

Zubimendi has less of that. He isn't a creative player by nature. And that is my problem with signing him. But he isn't a liability as much as Jorginho physically.

I get what Arteta is trying to do. But he just has to make it work if he does sign him.

Me and you have talked about it and a midfield of Zubi + Dec would need some special players in offence to make it work. Dec could have an extra level in finishing the attacks, but as far as creativity, that's his worst trait. A safe passer in Zubi, sure. But our offensive options would need to be nuclear. I highly doubt a three of Zubi, Rice, Ode would do well creatively. I'd want a more complete midfield than that.

I think that midfield would need most of the creativity to come from Odegaard and the front three. Especially when we face low blocks. But it has worked to some extent with Jorginho last season. Partey started the last few games in that run when we won 16/18 games. And all of those games weren't open space games.

If we bring in Zubimendi, We will have sign a creative player along with him so that we can rest one of Rice/ Zubimendi when we face low blocks. We even need to play an Odegaard, Rice/Zubi, Nwaneri midfield at times. The new CM they are hoping to add is an 18 year old Nypan though. It will be Odegaard, Nwaneri, Nypan, Merino and possibly Dowman to break down low blocks. Not sure that has enough punch.

If Arteta chooses that, he has to lie on the bed he made and make it work. This summer will be indefensible if we don't win something big next season.

Re your last sentence, I couldn't have said it better.
