SUMMER TRANSFER CHATTER HEATS UP

by .

It’s a lovely Friday where I am. They call it a head-fake spring. It goes from -20 to 18 degrees. You think you’re out the back end of winter, then BANG, some American is flying at you to sack you head first with another bout of painful winter.

Did you like my attempt at NFL language to make a point? Am I a Chiefs fan for Super Bowl this weekend? Absolutely. They are my ‘local’ team. So it’s all fine and dandy for me to wear their colors (just don’t tell anyone where I live because there’s still bad blood about what Stan did with the Rams).

What have we got cooking today? Curtis Jones telling the BBC Arsenal stole ‘fist bump’ celebrations.

Sorry Pete but I just don’t have the time to read all this. Can you give a quick summary?

Great Clickbait title !

TheLegendaryDB10

What a fantastic post …

😂😂😂

I think we should create stories to see if any gets picked up by the media.

Let me start.

TheLegendaryDB10

Breaking news:

Emile Smith-Rowe to Manchester United. The club are tabling a £100m bid to anticipate whatever price tag is slapped on him and ward off any potential suitors. Manchester are expecting a strong bid war and want to make sure they are in prime position.

American sports are garbage, can’t even watch hockey living in Canada. PL should not copy anything from North America sports.

Joke Friday A husband and wife are eating breakfast when the wife says, “I had a dream last night. I was at an auction, and they were auctioning penises. Nice-sized ones were going for $25, big ones were going for $50, and spectacular ones were going for $100.” The husband says, “Is that right? How much did one like mine go for?” And the wife says, “50 cents!” So the husband says, “You know, I also had a dream about an auction. In my dream they were auctioning vaginas. Okay ones were going for $25, pretty tight ones were going… Read more »

This is for you china1, as I know that you were a CS gamer, and any other gamer out there, to add Zinky being a massive, massive CS fan, to the point that, not only does he own his own e-sports team, he actively plays, and plays very well, as well.

A cool fact to know about him.

Walter’s and Ozil proper gamers too

China

I was a street fighter player rather than CS but I love that story. Great story

Just hope his frequent injuries aren’t ozil style from spending all night in an uncomfortable gaming chair

Love to see him bossing in multiple spheres tho

The adorable TT!

Arteta on Tomiyasu’s qualities as a person…

‘You just want to hug him. You just want to hug him all day and be next to him. He’s always smiling, he’s always positive. The way he looks after people and how humble he is, he’s just adorable.’

Would have been first but read Pedro’s post first ahead

I find I get an email the day after the post goes up and then it wouldn’t allow me to sign in unless iI subscribe to the email when published so I presume there is a cock up as another post before this one vanished.
By the way blue cards are for disabled drivers not this ridiculous idea to make our national game even more complex.

Just a few random thoughts as probably none of you know me.I first went to Highbury as a young child in 1952 and seen everything since then bar being relegated or winning the CL. I am sure most of you know more than me re expressions and tactics which have changed over the years but I have some insight as to what is going on these days as my daughter is a senior English tutor to Spanish and South American players at Arsenal and other london PL clubs. Anyone else watching and hoping for an unexpected Everton win?

Dissenter

Never seen a fourth official get involved with a throw in before
The PGMOL is messed up

LoveSausage

I can see why we might be looking at this Brantwaith kid. Looks solid with a good technique for such a big frame.

Everton are surviving so far but Ashley Young has looked knackered since the 20th minute. This could turn ugly.

Gommit

Was just thinking the same regarding Branthwaite, would be a great rotational option for us.

Major_Jeneral

I believed we are linked with Braithwaite in recent weeks.

Dissenter

I hope we aren’t linked with the Braithwaite kid.
Coverage in defensive positions shouldn’t be our priority this summer
Timber is coming back, Tomiyasu’s contract just got extended and Kiwior is progressing nicely.
Knowing the way we do transfers however, our priorities will be skewed.

LoveSausage

Dissenter,

This isn’t about what makes sense squad-wise. You know that Mikel is addicted to CBs. I’m sure we’ll buy cover for Saka some time before his 31st birthday.

ARgooner

Ditto for the Chiefs….but COYG..let’s hammer the hammers….and hope Everton can hold for 2nd half

Bob N16

Northbanker, hope you can forgive my ‘obligation’ to respond to Sid!

TheLegendaryDB10

I am glad to hear that this whole blue card farce is being postponed and hopefully binned. My biggest worry is, considering how dodgy PGMOL refs are, is the potential for misuse this new rule would bring. A corrupt PGMOL ref could most certainly give a “poorly” decided blue card to suspend an opposing team’s key player, thus giving a temporary advantage to the other team. Being down to 10 men, even for 10 minutes, can be enough to give the other team the advantage and a higher chance at scoring a goal. If blue cards are ever approved, I… Read more »

China1 Ah, sorry about the mix-up! Yes, as you say, it is cool that he is taking his gaming as seriously as he does with his football. It is also nice to see him invest his money into something positive (I guess. I am not a huge fan of the concept of e-sports. It’s overplaying the same game to death. But, if people love that game, why should I stop them!) and share with other people his love of this game. Concerning SF, this has been one of my favourite fighting games, alongside VF5. I wonder why this wasn’t highlighted much about the blue card The biggest negative about the blue card will be that it will unleash an increase of muscle injuries Having players who are warmed up, have played a portion of the game, go into passive muscle mode on the sidelines because of a blue card and then join an active game in full flow is a disaster for the well being of the player. Maybe if they had them on an exercise bike or to continue jog on the sidelines The sports that do sin bins are the one that… Read more »

‘ I really Hate City’

They don’t care

Benjamin

SUCCESS breeds hate in your rivals.

I still hate United more…and the havent had
Succes in ten years..

Bob N16

Particularly when the success has been based on breaking the rules.

When they first had success I’ll admit I thought ‘good luck to them’ after being decades in the shadow of United. Now with their dominance and the almost certain confirmation that their foundations have been built on cheating the system, I now passionately resent their success.

Ramdas

Doubt that the blue cards are happening.

If it worked well, it would be fairer: a player stops your counterattack and he gets penalised in this game, not against some other opponent who weren’t impaired by his professional foul.

But looking at how they cannot even get simpler things like VAR working as intended, one would have serious doubts about their ability to make the blues work.

Benjamin

SUCCESS breeds hate in your rivals

I also hate Tottenham, and they never had succes..

Graham62

There’s dislike of other teams and then there’s hatred for MU.
As for MC, I’m like you Bob.
I also ‘passionately resent their success’.
They will get their comeuppance……..eventually!

Bob N16

Benjamin, very good point about the Spuds!

TheLegendaryDB10

Benjamin, Diss

I think there are 2 concepts of team hating at hands here.

There is hating the teams that we loathe purely because we see them as rivals, local or in terms of success. This is the hate being described by Benjamin.

The hate described by Diss sits more in the realms of jealousy, where Diss is right in saying that the more successful a team becomes, the more hated it becomes as this hate will be driven by jealousy that the winning team is out playing them and winning everything every time.

China1

Everton are so shit

They’re entire genius has been to just put 10 men behind the ball

RB position got spanked by Doku about 25 times today, it’s so easy down that side, not surprised Haaland a first goal came off the right side of defense

Evertons transitions forwards and attack are non existent in terms of quality and decision making

Meanwhile second goal Haaland made the CB look like a 12 year old boy. Just embarrassing

Bob N16

Here’s hoping Graham!

Karsa

I don’t feel hate for the spuds, I feel scorn towards them.

Tom

Bob, weren’t you rooting for City to win the CL final vs Inter last year ?
Pretty weird approach considering how much you resent their success.
Or do I have you mixed up with another legrove sports psychologist?

China1

‘ The biggest negative about the blue card will be that it will unleash an increase of muscle injuries’

I think the blue cards are a dreadful idea for a dozen reasons but this isn’t one of them.

If players don’t want the risk of this kind of issue, either keep warming up on the touch lines during the sin bin or better yet just don’t commit blue card offenses in the first place

Benkind

KDB since returning 5 games 4 assists and 1 goal. He already equalled Odegaard tally for the season and has provided in these 5 games 25% of all Odegaard premier league assist since he joined us. But don’t worry odegaard is in 99 percentile.

China1

Benkind what exactly is your point? That KDB is better than Ode? No shit Sherlock.

Compare any player against one of the best players in their position *of all time* and you might find comparisons are one sided…

Perhaps we should just sign KDB? Yeah thought not. So let’s sign one of the dozens of other players putting in performances and numbers comparable to KDB? Oh wait, they don’t exist.

Genius.

Tom

KDB is simply brilliant but who do we have that could receive that pretty simple pass( by his standards) he made to Haaland for the assist who can put a defender on the ground by sheer strength and finish with ease.

Benkind

My bad KDB acutually has 1 more assist than Odegaard(3). Odegaard has one assist in last 10 EPL game. Last one was against Liverpopl in December.

Benkind

China1, Yes I am a genius. If your captain and main provider has 16 assists in 107 games and he is guaranteed a spot even if you sign mbappe you still have problems. I am not saying we sign KDB but are we saying that odegaard has reached his ceiling and so we cannot expect more from him. 3 assist this season in premier league for Arsenal is very very underwhelming. But I keep forgetting our goal isn’t to win a trophy so we cannot put more pressure on Odegaard but in the words of a great Arsenal man called… Read more »

Tom, I wasn’t rooting for City but I thought that if they did win, Guardiola might decide that his work there was done, which would be of benefit to Arsenal.

Another thing people don’t know is that Unai Emery who I met several times was born with a terrible stutter and had difficulty learning Spanish let alone English and this “Good Ebening” wasn’t necessary and I am sure it got to him. I hope he is successful at Villa,a decent man.

Marbellaron

I seem to have a name change not orchestrated by me.

Marky Mark

Bob – attempted dig at me ( psychotherapist ) . Personally my view is the juggernaut needs dismantling and this may be from areas outside of Arsenal’s performance. A but like sitting Government lose elections the opposition doesn’t win then. In this case a potential massive points deduction will cause the necessary destruction and alter how we view funding within football. It’ll be a massive shockwave . Up to that point city are likely to continue domination. My view is we will finish 3rd. If City somehow slide out of severe punishment then best hope is to do the Liverpool… Read more »

His contract runs out in 25 and I’m not aware he’s broken one early, ever. City’s CL failures was a huge monkey on their back which could’ve come to our advantage were we to meet them in this years knock off stages. Having a bad day Tom? Calling how I felt about City and Guardiola ‘ a terrible take’. Did I really think Guardiola was going to call it a day if City had won? I certainly wouldn’t have put money on it but I was trying to imagine a silver lining that would benefit Arsenal. Similarly the hope that City might not be as motivated this season after winning the treble, was just that, a hope not an expectation. Trying to come up with a silver lining, that’s just trying to take a positive out of a negative. MarkyMark – I… Read more »

Nigel Tufnel

Dissenter the only way we’d take on a new defender is if Kiwior leaves, which I hope does not happen. There is a small chance he could be unhappy with the very small amount of playing time he gets, and never in his true position of LCB. He was a very hot prospect when we got him, being monitored by giant European clubs, and he and his agent know it. For a defender, very good pace and excellent passing skill. Scouts had his CB positioning rated as very good also. The only problem is that Gabriel is the player in… Read more »

Having a bad day Tom? Calling how I felt about City and Guardiola ‘ a terrible take’.

Every time city win is a bad day for me, Bob.

Nigel Tufnel

Bob,
I had the exact same view of the Pep situation. I had a slight hope somehow things could work a bit in our favour. I’m always watching non-Arsenal results and thinking how we might benefit in some tiny way. The odds were always slim.

Today, not that spurs results matter to us, but Brighton were awful . Never like to see the scum happy. Nobody will complain about Spurs celebrating because they’re irrelevant, except for a couple top 4 scrappers. That used to be us.

Foxy

Re Odegaard what Arteta needs to work out and fix us why according to the stats Pedro quoted recently, Ode is top of the class this season for chances created but bottom for assists. Yes it could be due to the lack of a true CF but I recall Odegaard was criticised last year for not creating chances for Haaland when playing for Norway. So what exactly is classified as a chance?

Pierre

No complaints from me regarding Odegaard’s recent performances, compared to earlier in the season they have been like chalk and cheese. The evidence of this is apparent when you consider that in his first 10 league games he had only 16 key passes in total , compare to the last 10 league games an impressive 38 passes in total. So he’s gone from 1.6 key passes per game on average to 3.8 key passes per game. It is quite ironic that the fans who were arguing that Odegaard’s lack of creativity is due to being affected by a change of… Read more »
