EMILE SMITH ROWE – SHOP WINDOW OR LEFT #8 AUDITION?

by .

Happy Boxing day to you ALL!

How was your Christmas? We had a good one. My brother and dad bullied me back into UK drinking habits and I am feeling the pain. Brits never stop, they don’t forgive fly-tipping, and they move at Martinelli-like speed on the drinks. Tough comeback for me.

Gotta say, personally, going to Boxing Day games has never been my cup of tea. The games feel like a bloated hangover; no one is really in the mood, and you can end up with some unfestive moments. Like Newcastle having trouble with Forest right now (2-1 down after a great finish from Chris Wood).

I’m happy to watch others fall to those moments today. Villa vs United could be very spicy. EtH under huge pressure, Unai Emery on top of the world… it’ll be very interesting to see if there’s has a new ownership bounce. We’ll talk about that Radcliffe deal at another date, seems very interesting, though not particularly game-changing.

Arsenal news is in short supply at the minute. We have some problems to deal with. Kai Havertz is out injured, so there are some decisions to be made against West Ham.

My heart says this would be a great moment to bring Emile Smith Rowe into the mixer. He’s been sitting on our bench for a few games now, he’s perfect for a team that’ll defend hard, and try to constrict space. Emile, at his best, is an output monster, and we’d all love to see if he can do what Granit and Kai have showed us over the last year. I’d love him to be the deputy there.

However, my head says Arteta is finished with him and he’ll go with Trossard there again. Emile is great fodder for FFP numbers because he’s pure profit.

That’s part of my issue. Arteta has to play the best team he has available, but I do wish he’d sometimes consider the transfer value of players he crashes when perfectly acceptable players land on his shitlist. Emile was a £55m player 3 seasons ago. Now we’d be lucky to get £25m for him. A crime when you consider the output Hojland and Antony have between them, but par the course in a league that doesn’t value players that can actually do it at the highest level.

Still, can’t be too harsh. Everyone knows the Emile issues are about availability. He can’t string a month together. So he can’t be part of our squad. I’ll be gutted when he goes, but injury issues don’t get better with age, and he has been plagued with them his whole career.

It’ll also be interesting to see if there are any other rotations in the offing. Rumors keep circling that Thomas Partey is going to be ready, they all tend to come from the same guy who is guessing with authority online (poorly). Partey had barely trained before last week. I’d be surprised to see him put in the team before the break. Quite mad that he will have sat out the first half of the season, but he’ll no doubt play every game of a successful Ghana campaign at AFCON. When will Asia and Africa bring their comps back onto a more global calendar?

Back to Partey. Better bet for Arsenal would be to bring him back after the international competition and make sure he heads there in pristine condition. We’ll wait to see whether that happens. Same with Tomiyasu who could technically rejoin the squad early, but the question is whether it’s worth risking him for games we should win. The long game is Partey and Tomi for the run-in… don’t do anything to jeopardize that would be my vision.

This West Han game will be a feisty one. Arteta vs Moyes is always a good father vs son joust. We also have the Declan vs the club the birthed him a career at the highest level. I’d love him to get a rest, but no chance that happens in a game he’ll want to be part of.

After getting such a great result at Anfield, it’s important not to blow that point by failing against a West Ham team that can be got at. They’ve conceded 30 so far this season, but it is important to note that they’re equal points against Newcastle (as of 60 minutes against Forest). That’s pretty decent.

You also have to look at their team. Bowen has the same goals as Salah this season and looks on fire. They have Kudus and Paqueta in their starting 11. Two absolutely outstanding players that signify the strength of the league. Then you have Moyes, a manager who just gets the job done.

We should have enough in a home game. I’m heading in for this one. I can’t wait for it. It was the friendliest London derby of the lot until the summer when West Ham fans slandered us and pined for their best player in a generation to go to Manchester City.

Arsenal has to deliver retribution for those harsh words online. We have to show them why we’re the biggest show in the Premier League right now. We also have to protect my feelings by staying ahead of Unai Emery who will probably destroy a very, very damaged United side this evening.

Right, short one today. Get on the podcast.

DM

Nice to meet you 😃

DM

You know who I’d forgotten about? Kieran Tierney. You can’t tell me that man wouldn’t be super useful to us right now.

DM

TallestTiz

Likewise, mate. Nice tr4phy 🙂

Spanishdave

DM
He injured again no use to us he’s another regular in the treatment room.

DM

Spanishdave

But if we hadn’t loaned him out then likelihood is he’d be heavily rotated and would’ve have played that many games, so less likely to be injured.
It’s not an easy decision tbf cos he’s too good a player to just sit on the bench constantly, but in terms of what would help our squad the most, it’s a shame he’s not there.

raptora

Joe Willock’s injury history is not a good read. Very important player for the Geordies but have not been there to help them lately.

Spanishdave

Newcastle whole game is about getting free kicks and then lumping it forward.
Also constantly looking for penalties.
That’s what Howe does that’s all

Positive pete

Barcodes (& the greatest football fans in the whole wide world)😂well & truly put back in their box.Delighted.Leaving early in their droves.Ideas well above their station.

allezkev

Well I really enjoyed that, mind you Forest (a) on Jan 30th could be a more problematic proposition for the Gunners than it was a week or so ago…

Emiratesstroller

Pedro

Havertz is not out injured. He is suspended for one game for 5 yellow cards.

Gazza

Harvertz isn’t injured he is suspended

Pierre

Raptora
“Joe Willock’s injury history is not a good read.”

Really.

Up until the last few months he barely missed a game, unfortunately for him and Newcastle he picked up a hamstring injury pre season and now has an achiles problem..

Siddeeq

Lokonga with an assist

Kpankulu

Nuno Espiritu SANTA.

Kpankulu

@DM: Revisionist history much? Remember when Tierney injured himself in his London bathroom, ffs? Repeat after me: HE IS ALWAYS UNAVAILABLE!

Pierre

Bournemouth penalty award just now wasn’t dissimilar to the non award for Arsenal when Havertz was bundled over ..

Samesong

Chelsea dropping to 11th is beautiful.

Samesong

Bournemouth penalty award just now wasn’t dissimilar to the non award for Arsenal when Havertz was bundled over ..

Not heard too much about the Trent push on Havertz. Blatant penalty

psuedo warrior

Has Newcastle won a game after robbing Arsenal? Enjoy Christmas you Geordie cvnts

BacaryisGod

The African and Asian tournaments aren’t going to affect us too much. Unless I’m reading this incorrectly, we only have 2 Premier League games in the month of January, Palace at home and Forest away. Liverpool visit on February 4th which makes things very interesting depending on whether Egypt reach the QFs (Feb 2nd and 3rd). If so, Liverpool will likely be without Salah for both games.

BacaryisGod

Clarification-Liverpool will be without Salah for the F.A Cip game against is in January too.

raptora

With today’s result Bournemouth have won 19 out of 21 possible points in their last 7 games – six wins, one draw. Insane streak.

Markymak

This is the benefit of a GD4 free zone. No lectures on racism from the twat when it’s increasingly obvious that African national players are a nightmare for the Prem league. In fact the better they are the bigger the nightmare. Far better to get French registered West Africans and UK registered Nigerians Gambians etc. Liverpool may well find January difficult. For us it’s no loss and in fact Partey absence has really been sorted

Markymak

To use a Pedro expression, it’s getting spicy for the Chavs. Forest , Luton and Everton are more than capable of pulling back 3 more points on Chelsea in the next few games.
Next to Sheffield UTD the Chavs have got to have the worst form in the Prem.

Useroz

Didn’t take Pool long did it? Burley held up for 5 minutes…

MidwestGun

Think Pedro’s hangover is affecting him… haha Havertz is fine other than he tackles like a lunatic sometimes so is suspended for the Hammers. My choice would be Trossard to replace but if ESR can go,,, wouldn’t be mad at that either. He needs to get it going asap.

Happy Boxin day.. to y’all by the way. Hope everyone survived the family.

The Barcodes have really hit the wall haven’t they.. ? dropping like a rock in the table.

Benjamin

Burley Are really poor. Championship club
at best!

MidwestGun

Ya Kompany always looks defeated on the sideline before the matches even start like somebody kicked his dog.

There’s a twist in the tail

Benjamin

There’s a twist in the tail
It’s coming

There is never a twist in the tail with thar
Burnley side

MidwestGun

Is the twist …. Pool are gonna win by3 instead of 2..? Or United are gonna beat Villa? I’d prefer the second option.

MidwestGun

Sheffield and Burnley are gonna get relegated.. for sure.. just a matter of who gets the 3rd spot, imo.

Rich

Chelsea fan meltdown is a thing of beauty, they’re in Meltdown Level 5.

Un

I’d love it if he starts ESR tonight
Xmas pressie
No need to expand on what he offers as anyone with eyes can see
So just give him some belief and give him a chance to prove himself like Wenger would have

Un

Still, can’t be too harsh. Everyone knows the Emile issues are about availability. He can’t string a month together. So he can’t be part of our squad. I’ll be gutted when he goes, but injury issues don’t get better with age, and he has been plagued with them his whole career. Looking at these 6 English strikers and how they profile to harry kane. Kane has a good all-round game but is also a great finisher due to his movement and being able to generate lots of power in his shots. I love how he archs his back to shoot even from tight spaces compared to say someone like Giroud who has a strong shot but not the quickness (agility) to get it off. I think it’s also Eddie’s biggest weakness. Kane is also dangerous in & around the box (due to agility to get a shot off with his tremendous… Read more »

rollen

Nice one Pedro.
Should be good game for you.
No live games for me for over 8 years.
No more London connection.
Must win game.

rollen

Would be nice if Manure can get a point from GOAT Emery daddy.

rollen

Fuck DM is right we forgot about Tierney.
Would be perfect for games like Anfield.

Northbanker

Un – you know we’re not playing tonight?

Socrates

Leon Bailey has one trick – a step over at the edge of the box to get space and cut the ball back, and it’s very effective for some reason

Northbanker

Don’t think that’s true with ESR – he had a number of injury issues in the youth team. He also had the hernia problem which was some sort of growth defect so nothing to do with Arteta

Not sure why you have cited Saliba – just one injury so hardly a trend . All players can get injured.

Socrates

rollenDecember 26, 2023 20:11:26
Fuck DM is right we forgot about Tierney.
Would be perfect for games like Anfield.

Unfortunately he’ll then go down the next game and be out for weeks

WengerEagle

ETH has more lives than a cat

Goona

Cracking defending from manure…

Luteo Guenreira

“Un – you know we’re not playing tonight?”

Poor Un, it’s so hard to tell time and decipher calendars innit? Already into the 20s of the month, that’s way past your fingers and toes.

Socrates

Watched Burnley in about 3 games and they are poor. Kompany needed to adjust for the premier League but for some reason he’s either stubborn or lacks the players to do so. In any case them and Sheffield Utd might set some type of record for lowest points in a season if nothing changes

Un

Oh what?
The game is not tonight?
But it’s Boxing Day? Wtf?
That’s horse shit
Fuck this stupid schedule

Spanishdave

New manager at Man U surely

Goona

ETH must be for the exit door…

Un

Luteo

Shut up you ponce
Its a British tradition that games are on Boxing Day
Of course I expected it tonight
You wouldn’t have a a pony about that though would ya you Johnny come lately

Socrates

This might be it for ETH

Goona

Villa aren’t even playing well…

Rich

Managers can come and go…. But when clubs squander a lot of money on fees, and tie themselves into big contracts for average players, that are difficult to get out of..

That’s a much bigger problem than simply sacking a manager… Because the new manager just inherits the mess left from the previous guy.

ArGooner

Love that..Luton more goals than manure

Goona

@rich yep manure are in up to their necks in shit…its great to watch!

MidwestGun

Hojlund is always out of position. Pretty special skill for a striker.

Pv4

Eric ten hag should be allowed to manage then for the rest of his life. He’s done an amazing job.

Goona

@pv4…lol

Luteo Guenreira

“Its a British tradition that games are on Boxing Day”

Is it also a British tradition that you’re so dense that light bends around you?

Socrates

From what I’ve seen of Hojland is he can’t head, lacks pace, average ball control, can’t beat defenders and isn’t pacy. What exactly did he have to cost that much

MidwestGun

Yep… Hojlund should have been about a 25 mill project signing at best. They paid top level striker money.

ETH should explain offside…. rule to the team at halftime.. they seem confused by it.

Anyhow… loving the boos… always enjoyable to revel in the United fan tears… booo hooo.

Goona

Manu are appalling…..

MG42

If this result stands anything but 3 points against WHam and we are 3rd. Since it is an away game for WHam and they have an abysmal away record, it should be a cinch.

MG42

Absolutely fantastic to see Chelsea and United writing of this season.

MidwestGun

Offside check incoming. Guess ETH still didn’t explain it to them.

Goona

Lol offside fucking clowns up top for manure

Pierre

So what happens if Smith Rowe starts on Thursday, plays for an hour or so and scores or assists a couple which is a possibility, would Arteta keep him in……no chance Havertz will be back for the fulham game on Sunday 100% even if smith rowe is man of the match v west ham. Smith Rowe coming in and doing well will give Arteta problems as it is obvious that he prefers a more disciplined, low risk player like Havertz who is never looking to unlock a defence and is happy to play the simple ball out wide.. I’m not… Read more »

MidwestGun

Haha if this one is offside too.. that would be like some sort of record. Looked good though..

jwl

OptaJoe –

“9/10 – Burnley are the first side in English top-flight history to lose as many as nine of their opening 10 home matches of a season. Difficulties.”

MG42

How the fuck we didn’t beat Villa will remain a mystery because they are so terrible and giving the ball away or misplacing shots.

raptora

Garnacho > overrated Rashford lol

raptora

Imagine letting this Manure team come back.

Un

Luteo GuenreiraDecember 26, 2023 20:36:31
“Its a British tradition that games are on Boxing Day”Is it also a British tradition that you’re so dense that light bends around you?

Luteo
Yes. Well observed
Because I’m not transparent, unlike you

karim

VAMOS United !

MidwestGun

Emery doesn’t do defense.. that’s for sure.

Goona

Wtf are villa doing?

Rich

I can deal with any outcome here…. It’s a win, win, win.

raptora

Sheffield United 2 (3.62) – 3 (0.72) Luton

Not sure what happened in this game but that’s an awful way to lose. 5x better chances to score overall for the Blades and instead of a comfortable win, they lost one of their most important games of the season.

allezkev

It’s like the Hackney Marshes, nobody knows how to defend.

MG42

Villa plays like an Irish pub team when away.

karim

BOOM

raptora

Embarrassing from Villa.

Goona

If manure draw or win it keeps tent peg still in a job…

MidwestGun

Hahaha Oh man… Hojlund finally found the broadside of a barn.

raptora

What an assist by McGinn.

Goona

The commentators are so pro manure it’s fucking joke

Benjamin

ETH lives another day….Good. Papering the
cracks!

allezkev

There is nothing like a Dane 🎼

MG42

well 2nd is assured and Villa plays so shitty they don’t deserve anything out of this. As already said it is win win for us.

Un

Oh the emery crash has begun

LoveSausage

Garnacho would be lethal in a proper system. The kid has it all and he’s still only 19.

Kpankulu

Oh, Good ebening!

Emery back to Arsenal suppor…trolls, how are you?

Emi Martinez fan-boys, how are you?

yeah, the game is not over yet…but oh so funny!!!

MidwestGun

Maybe . LS but those eyebrows got to go… looks like his barber got frisky with the shaver in a dark room.

MG42

If we don’t beat this abomination of a team at the emirates than there is something seriously wrong and we got bigger problems.

WengerEagle

Le Grove curse well and truly alive and kicking.

Of course Hoiljund with the winner.
