DAVID SEAMAN INTERVIEW!

by .

I’m really struggling with Lionel Messi winning ANOTHER Balon d’Or.

Love the man. He won things. Is the greatest of all time.

But the best player in the world because he won a World Cup? Please. We have to be closing the chapter on him and Cristiano.

Haaland won the treble. As did a whole group of City players who are stars but don’t get the star treatment. All of those players outshone Messi this season. Rafa Honigstein suggested Jude Bellingham. He earned a move to Madrid, he’s been incredible all season, he nearly won a Bundesliga for Dortmund. He has been categorically better than Lionel Messi.

I think my bigger issue here is the total domination of Cristiano and Messi on the award. Or, more to the point, that the hardware always goes to Spanish teams.

When was the last time a Premier League player won the award?

Michael Owen. 2001.

Since 2008, the trophy has only fallen out of the hands of Lio or CR7 twice. The award needs to get better. The Premier League is the most dominant league in the world, but apparently, it can’t muster votes for the best player in the world. Thierry Henry NEVER winning it will go down in history as a crime against the beautiful game.

Votes going to a country that doesn’t have a competitive league absolutely kills me. I can’t have it that Pedri, Gavi, and Camavinga takeover next year. England needs to be the destination going forward.

Next year, some thoughts.

  • Bukayo Saka
  • Martin Odegaard
  • Gabriel Martinelli
  • Declan Rice
  • Benny Blanco

Don’t deviate, voters. Don’t you dare!

Bukayo Saka has SLAMMED fans concerned about his burnout.

“My focus is not really there [on talk of burning out]. I always want to be on the pitch, to give my best, and if I’m injured and I have to be forced to be out, then of course I will sit out.

“But as long I’m there and I’m ready to play, I am always going to give my best and tell them that I want to play.”

Now, this is exactly what you’d expect a young player to say. The job of the manager is to play it safe with a body still developing. Maybe, just maybe, Mikel will change his tune after quickly breaking Gabriel Jesus after his return from minor surgery. Availability is a key attribute of top players, but there is a science that goes into that. I was talking to a world-class sports surgeon this weekend and he said ‘there are only so many miles on the clock, and if you burn them too early, you pay a price.’ Arsenal burned Jack Wilshere early and he never recovered. Bukayo has been treated far better and certainly had a better fitness build growing through our ranks. We just have to hope Mikel listens to his specialists – because it doesn’t seem that way this season.

Aaron Ramsdale has been linked with Chelsea this January and all I can say is: Accept he’ll leave. Accept he might go somewhere you DO NOT like. Chelsea currently rolls deep with Robert Sanchez and I’m not sure that’s a future they want. Aaron is young, he’s great with the ball at his feet, and he might suit a club battling back to the top with a young crew. I don’t want to see him leave, I’m a big fan, but Chelsea will give us £50m because they overpay for everyone.

Anyway, just putting that on your radar. The club needs to raise funds for another striker. So keep your eye on Aaron.

Ok, how about this… we had David Seaman on The AOP podcast and he was brilliant. Matt Kandela took the interview and it was a fascinating listen. He talks about some items I didn’t know about, like a major club that tried to sign him before Arsenal. He voiced his thoughts on the work that Arsenal coaching staff are putting in. He also spoke about the ever-changing game. What a TOP guy. So happy he decided to chat with us.

You can listen to the hour special here. Get on it. You’ll love it!

I think he’s improving Marko, just as the squad depth is, which is not unconnected. I know this is an Arsenalcentric blog but you’d have to have a go at all managers as a well-known, common refrain they all come out with is that players are often playing through niggles. We have only a passing knowledge of the state of fitness of the players. It’s a difficult balancing act, the details of which supporters are unaware of, on whether to rest someone which means another player has to play through a ‘niggle’. I am in agreement though who are suggesting… Read more »

Tom’s a gem of a poster even if he never lends his opinion to Harry Kane or his progress in Munich, frustrating really.

I’m actually very glad to see arteta day he cares so much about the league cup and I hope it’s true

Even if he didn’t cate, Arteta wouldn’t have said it in a press conference..

raptora

Dunno if he cares about Carabooboo cup and I don’t want to be too critical about it, but our FA runs in the last 3 seasons have been absolutely embarrassing. 2x Round 3 exits and 1x Round 4 exit. Okay, once was away to City but the other two times we lost to Southampton and Forest. It’s supposed to be our tournament ffs. I don’t want to be too critical again, cause I know the PL and now CL are more important but holy shit…

TR7

Unlikely we beat City to the league title.

Would be nice to win a couple of trophies ( FA Cup, Carabao) and hopefully reach the SF of CL.

Tom Nobody wants to see children hurt Nobody with any humanity What is the solution for Isreal? Every time the Palestinians come to the table to deal Israel jump They want peace They want a solution Hamas and the surrounding regions and factions want Israel gone. They don’t want peace. The only reason they haven’t been blown off the map is because they are heavily armed and backed by the yanks. The one crusade of theirs that I can actually get on board with. I think the comments Pedro put out there somewhere attributed to a fitness coach or specialist around ‘there are only so many miles in the tank’ really resonated with me in terms of player fitness, especially after watching the Beckham documentary saying he knew he was done at PSG when he would hurt for days after a match. There’s only so many miles, Arteta’s comments are a worry; especially as he is a player that struggled with fitness late on. He should have all the metrics around him of how many minutes a player has done, how many he is… Read more »

Arsenal quiz, got 15/22, this was difficult unless you got encyclopedic memory.

Who gives a fuck about the Milk Cup I mean, really? It’s a competition that doesn’t even exist in the other 5 leagues barring France I think.

Arsene never took it seriously when he was here hence we haven’t won it in 30 years. It’s pretty much an afterthought and designed to blood younger talents which is what Arsene used it for.

WengerEagle

If it wasn’t for the Milk Cup, Spurs would be 32 years trophy-less.

Un

I’m not ashamed to say it
I won’t be watching tonight
I’ve got a steamy date night lined up with a beautiful woman. (No peanut butter and her name not dissenter)

raptora

TR7: “Would be nice to win a couple of trophies ( FA Cup, Carabao) and hopefully reach the SF of CL.”

I would be quite happy with 2nd place in the PL + FA Cup + SF in the CL. Would be a pretty sweet season. Not ideal but pretty fkin solid.

jwl

Weagle – we need to change attitude about winning cups, Wenger’s attitude was bad for club, winning any competition you involved in is good and should be taken seriously. I would have mixed starting eleven of our regular starters and players who need minutes tonight but we should be trying to win the milk cup, not be dismissive of it.

WengerEagle

Really? Jesus, what’s happened to the standards at this club?

I’m still sick all these years later that we came up short in Paris in ’06. It’s one thing to be pragmatic and another thing to be ‘happy’ with being second best.

You have to dream big if you’re a supporter, fuck it why can’t we go beyond the CL SF? We’re easily better than last season’s Inter or Poch’s Spurs.

Siddeeq

Caraboohoo

WengerEagle

Nah Jwl hard disagree there.

It’s literally impossible to compete on 4 fronts, even the City juggernaut last season didn’t manage to clean up all 4 trophies.

I’d much rather treat the FA Cup, which is the oldest and most prestigious domestic cup competition in football with respect than the League Cup who nobody gives a shit about. Could you even name me the last 10 League Cup winners without googling it? Doubt it.

raptora

WE: “Could you even name me the last 10 League Cup winners without googling it?”

I wouldn’t be able to do that for the FAC or CL either lol

WengerEagle

Really Rap? Forgivable for the FA Cup but the CL?

Chris

We could end up in the league cup semis without even putting out a strongest 11 with the kick of the draw, perhaps the final.

Get to the final and then we should be playing first 11 to win it. Is the semi final still 2 legs? It ought to be only one game really.

raptora

Forgivable for the FA Cup? I’d fancy myself for a 9/10.

The CL though? We played 6x in Europa League. Unlike Bamford, I am not a student of the game. I’m an Arsenal fan and while I watch most of the big games and I follow up the scores, I don’t give a toss who’s going to win it (would rather not be an English team for competitive reasons).

Rich

jwl

I missed Campbell, Pennant, Ramsey.

raptora

CL games have been very forgettable for me in the 6 seasons we didn’t participate. I got very used to the Thursday games. Now I actually have to check if we’re playing in Tuesday or Wednesday. Kind of annoying lol.

Chris

Without looking I think I could make all CL/European Cup winners from the last 40 years. Helped by me doing a Wikipedia rabbit hole about the CL one bored evening! Do we all remember the 2nd group phase era? I think it went out in 03/04 and turned into the format it is now. I remember wondering why we weren’t playing every week in CL that season, didn’t even realise it had changed. Also a weird period in the 91-93 era where it was 2 knockout ties then it would move into the Group stage, then teams top of the… Read more »

Not sure why any fan would turn their nose up at a Cup Final.

Some of my best and worst days as an Arsenal fan have been at Wembley, Cardiff, and in Paris.

What I find is that some fans are dismissive of the domestic cups… But only up until the team sheets gets announced… And then they drop any pretence of… “It doesn’t really matter”…

They then get their game head quickly onto their shoulders, and it’s all about the battle.

WengerEagle

We’ve clearly never cared about the League Cup though Rich as evidenced by the 30 years since we won our last one which would be downright bizarre given Wenger was the FA Cup king so it’s not just a few on here who are dismissive of it, it’s not a competition that is respected by the club whether you choose to acknowledge that or not.

Is Dissenter’s proclivity for peanut butter, crunchy or smooth?

This is very far from my field of expertise, but the word “crunchy” made my buttocks clench and eyes run. Ouch!

TR7

See if ignoring the Cup tournaments meant we could go on and win the league then perhaps I wouldn’t care about the cups this season that much

But we are not going to beat Guardiola in the league title. He is levels above any other manager in the world and his team looks better this season with addition of Alvarez, Doku and Gvardiol ( Alvarez was there last season too but a more prominent player this season).

Rich

WE

I was at the game down in Cardiff when we lost to Chelsea…

Was out in Melbourne with a Birmingham and Villa mate when we lost to Birmingham, and my Villa mate was even sicker than me at the final whistle.

We got thumped by City back in 2018, in a day and performance to forget.

We’ve been sniffing around it… If we can find a route to the final similar to United last season… I’ll never turn my nose up at a trophy.

We’re long overdue winning it, it’s been 30 years.

WengerEagle

Very defeatist attitude TR7, let’s hope it’s not one shared by the players.

As I said before, you cannot always be pragmatic as a supporter. We really were not far off at all last season and we’ve added a seriously good player in Rice to that crop with our star trio in Saka, Marti and Saliba all a year wiser and experienced. It’s not like in the later years under Arsene when we were simply miles off of the top.

WengerEagle

Rich

3 Finals in the last 30 years, all of which we lost and one of those was to Birmingham.

Compared to the FA Cup which we won 4 times between 2014-2020 alone and in that same 30 year timeframe we’ve won 8 of 9 FA Cup Finals, Wenger with 7 of those.

The numbers tell the tale of which competition we have taken more seriously over the years.

WengerEagle

From the way some are talking on here they hold the League Cup in close to as high esteem as the FA Cup. That’s where I cannot get on board. The FA Cup when I was growing up was a massive competition and I have fond memories of prime Vieira and Keane-led sides having epic wars in SF/Finals. It’s power has diminished over the years since because of the money being pumped into the game and the financial rewards that now come with CL qualification, etc but imo it still dwarves the League Cup in comparison and is a very… Read more »

Come 19.30… Or even between 18.15-18.30 when the team sheets start leaking, those who are dismissing this competition will be feeling very differently. Those who are claiming they don’t care about this trophy… will be the first to throw their rattle out the pram if we lose tonight. I agree that Saka, Martinelli, Rice, Saliba, Ødegaard, should be nowhere near our starting 11… But show me many clubs with players as good as Ramsdale, Kiwior, Tomiyasu, Jorginho, Smith Rowe, Vieira, Nelson, Trossard, Havertz, who all need minutes. Nope, I honestly won’t care. Just you wait.

Winning the league after what happened last season and the summer we had + city missing key players for long spells aka KDB shouldn’t be that far-fetched. I think that Fuhlam draw will haunt us down the very finish. I am atraid of Liverpool this year also

Gunnernet

I think in this City’s team Rodri has stepped up as being very critical as well. You can see it how vulnerable city are when he is absent. So glad he missed our game

Un

Yeah rich I’m not fussed For me it’s a chase to see our young players in action I only enjoy seeing us go through so lads like ESR get another chance to play and show what he can do I’d be happy to get to the semis and lose so long as those players knocking on the door blow the doors off with some irresistible performances ESR vieira Kai neslon Kiwior I’d love to see them do well but couldn’t give a shite about winning it unless we come up against our rivals Then it matters West Ham and Brentford?… Read more »

The Americans have no business in the Middle East or Europe. Just as my own government have no business interfering in other regions.

Jamie

I’m with Weagle – the milk cup is a nothing competition. I liked how Wenger used it to blood in 16 year olds.

Would be foolish for Arteta to start Saka, Marti, Ode, Saliba, Zinch, or Rice. We have enough depth to start fringe players imo. And Havertz.

Same.

I care about the FAC though.

Absolutely, rap. The FA cup is different gravy.

Jordan Davies, The Sun
Gabriel Jesus’ camp expect him to be out until the start of December, missing Arsenal’s next six games in all comps. Currently limited to doing gym work for now.

What the eff?! I expected him to be back much sooner, in maybe 1 or 2 weeks max.

No Partey and Jesus for 1 month (at least) by the look of it. Not tragic but yup. Jesus delivers again (and Partey). It’s annoying. Again.

18 out of 22 but with one last name that i tried for another player and the correct one popped up. Also missed one of the most obvious ones of all who had three hatticks. The other three were surprising to me.

Saw a pic. of Ivan Toney, not convinced he’s our answer for a strikers personality. Rather stick with
Eddie made in Hale End

bacaryisgod

Would love to see this starting line-up today.

Ramsdale,
Tomiyasu, Kiwior, Zinchenko, Gabriel,
Jorginho, Elneny
Vieira, Trossard, Smith-Rowe

MidwestGun

B.ig what up.. ?

That’s only 10 players dude.. Don’t think we wanna give them that much of an advantage. 😀

Siddeeq

Jorginho, elneny, Vieira in the same team would be tragic.

Against very athletic Soucek, alvarez, prowse

Thierry Martinelli

Jesus is now the back up striker. We have to accept that. Let’s focus on getting someone else to compete with Eddie. Partey’s body can’t sustain the rigours of the epl. We should start thinking of a future without him & it’s not Havertz or Jorginho to replace him.

karim

Right, so asking people to go south and then eventually bomb them in the south is ok Bomb refugee camps, hospitals, mosques and schools is ok Pretend to hit as less civilians as possible while using white phosphorus is ok Let people cope without food, medicine, gas and power is ok Use the pretext to annihilate Hamas to destroy entire neighbourhoods and try and force people out of the whole place is ok Let government officials call people rats and human animals is ok ( Hi Don ) And so on, and so forth for entire decades now Long live… Read more »

I quickly have a look on SSN to see if any team news has been posted on who will be playing tonight, and I get greeted with the massive headline that Brentford wants £100 m for Ivan Toney. Well if they want this much for a gambling addicted player who can bet against your own team, I say no thank you. bacaryisgod

Sid

Not resting for Carabao would be more tragic.

salparadisenyc

I prefer Smith to Rowe.

Thierry Martinelli

I hope ESR redeems himself in tonight’s match after his ghost performance on Saturday. I could care less if we got eliminated. Just want to see how a couple of lads will play tonight
ESR
Reiss
Kiwior

MidwestGun

Ahh yes the esteemed law firm of Emile- Smith & Rowe.
I hear Smith is a real ball buster on cross examination.

For some reason I’m feeling like we will have more starters than people are predicting.. My guess, is Ben White, Zinchenko, Big Gabby, Rice, and Saka might all get the nod, today. I do think ESR, Kiwior and Reiss might get a start. Still not sure if we see false 9 with Tross the Boss or Eddie back with him being on a heater.

Rich

No Smith Rowe, even on the bench.

………..….……..Ramsdale
….…..White… Gabriel….Kiwior
…………Jorginho …Zinchenko
Nelson Havertz Vieira Trossard
………………………Eddie

Happy with that, strong 11, but no Saka, Saliba, Rice, Ødegaard, Martinelli starting.

Left Testicle

That’s a lightweight midfield.

Luteo Guenreira

Havertz Jorginho Vieira midfield. Let’s see how it goes.

Surprised ESR is not even on the bench, is he being saved for Newcastle? If so sounds like Odegaard’s injury is persisting and he needs more time off.

Spanishdave

Both side will rest players.
No bad line up maybe Nelson will wake up and earn his bloated salary

MidwestGun

Not bad.. but I hope Jorginho is hopped up on Carabao energy drink… he will need it.

No ESR in the squad. Any info on this?

ESR injury according to X

zomber

ESR is having knee problems… I miss the current Hale Enders from the squad. None of them is hanging potential?

Karsa

So much for those who insisted we’d be putting out an unnecessarily strong line up.

Matt

Raya too good to sit on the bench apparently. That ‘honour’ reserved for Ramsdale only.

Jollof Rice

Damn.
I was really looking forward to a dose of Smith Rowe.

Oh well.

raptora

I added ESR to the question mark category re crocked or not. He is forcing my hand to be added to Zinny, Partey, Jesus and Tomi (Tierney obv as well).

Marko

Finally some rotation though I’ll be honest I still would have liked to see some young guns on the bench at least

Marko

ESR injured again. I guess we’ll never know how much better off we might have been with say selling him and bringing in xavi simons in the summer.

TR7

Just when it looked like ESR was beginning to get back in to the mix, he gets injured again.

MidwestGun

Yep… pretty well kills the chances of fixing the left 8 position with an internal solution other than playing Rice there in a double pivot situation or praying Havertz has a sudden and shocking break thru. .

Nigel Tufnel

Emile Smith Rowe. 1 league start. Injured again. Makes Partey look like Xhaka.

He was starting to throw some game time and form. Together

Karsa

I’ve been saying ESR wasn’t ready to start games. Arteta bowed to Le Grove pressure.

Un

Karsa
He’s not started games for nearly a year
To the point where people thought he wasn’t fancied any more
He had to start erm starting games soon

Karsa

And yet too soon.

Useroz

Partey just back from injury before he played the two friendlies for his NT, and now injured.

Arteta should have find some reasons to keep him at Arsenal. After all, Partey couldn’t have been match fit. Even if he gets a one game ban , still worth Arsenal while.

Partey should seriously consider if he’d continue playing for the NT if he harbors any thoughts of continuing at Arsenal

Un

That’s a blow
I really hoped he was gonna pick it up where he left of in 2021
Maybe we need to get Saka his own song soon
Hopefully it’s just a precaution

No way he’s missing international duty

TheLegendaryDB10

Ahh shit… I was about to ask the question as I was wondering where on Earth is ESR.

I just can’t believe it. Just when we gonslly get the faint hope that we are going to finally see ESR tear up the pitch, he is injured.

Apparently it’s a knee injury.

I really hope he recovers quickly but this is very much now looking like we have another Jack Wilshere scenario happening with ESR.

This must be so frustrating for him as he hasn’t yet really played football and will now be out for a fair few weeks.

Un

Listened to the seaman interview while I was just driving to Luton
What a lovely Bloke he is
Met him when I was a kid and he was really nice
Was at a hotel getting autographs and a lot of the team were indifferent. Bergkamp especially

Arteta wanted Partey to get game time and match fitness away with the national team… Even sent the club physio away with him again.

Rested him for the following weekend game against Chelsea… But then he broke down at the end of a training session on the Monday.

We’ve just got to hope we can at least extract some type of value out of him until 2025…

Because nobody is offering us to pick up his wages, let alone pay us a transfer fee on top now… The time to get out was last summer.
