DAVID SEAMAN INTERVIEW!

by .

I’m really struggling with Lionel Messi winning ANOTHER Balon d’Or.

Love the man. He won things. Is the greatest of all time.

But the best player in the world because he won a World Cup? Please. We have to be closing the chapter on him and Cristiano.

Haaland won the treble. As did a whole group of City players who are stars but don’t get the star treatment. All of those players outshone Messi this season. Rafa Honigstein suggested Jude Bellingham. He earned a move to Madrid, he’s been incredible all season, he nearly won a Bundesliga for Dortmund. He has been categorically better than Lionel Messi.

I think my bigger issue here is the total domination of Cristiano and Messi on the award. Or, more to the point, that the hardware always goes to Spanish teams.

When was the last time a Premier League player won the award?

Michael Owen. 2001.

Since 2008, the trophy has only fallen out of the hands of Lio or CR7 twice. The award needs to get better. The Premier League is the most dominant league in the world, but apparently, it can’t muster votes for the best player in the world. Thierry Henry NEVER winning it will go down in history as a crime against the beautiful game.

Votes going to a country that doesn’t have a competitive league absolutely kills me. I can’t have it that Pedri, Gavi, and Camavinga takeover next year. England needs to be the destination going forward.

Next year, some thoughts.

  • Bukayo Saka
  • Martin Odegaard
  • Gabriel Martinelli
  • Declan Rice
  • Benny Blanco

Don’t deviate, voters. Don’t you dare!

Bukayo Saka has SLAMMED fans concerned about his burnout.

“My focus is not really there [on talk of burning out]. I always want to be on the pitch, to give my best, and if I’m injured and I have to be forced to be out, then of course I will sit out.

“But as long I’m there and I’m ready to play, I am always going to give my best and tell them that I want to play.”

Now, this is exactly what you’d expect a young player to say. The job of the manager is to play it safe with a body still developing. Maybe, just maybe, Mikel will change his tune after quickly breaking Gabriel Jesus after his return from minor surgery. Availability is a key attribute of top players, but there is a science that goes into that. I was talking to a world-class sports surgeon this weekend and he said ‘there are only so many miles on the clock, and if you burn them too early, you pay a price.’ Arsenal burned Jack Wilshere early and he never recovered. Bukayo has been treated far better and certainly had a better fitness build growing through our ranks. We just have to hope Mikel listens to his specialists – because it doesn’t seem that way this season.

Aaron Ramsdale has been linked with Chelsea this January and all I can say is: Accept he’ll leave. Accept he might go somewhere you DO NOT like. Chelsea currently rolls deep with Robert Sanchez and I’m not sure that’s a future they want. Aaron is young, he’s great with the ball at his feet, and he might suit a club battling back to the top with a young crew. I don’t want to see him leave, I’m a big fan, but Chelsea will give us £50m because they overpay for everyone.

Anyway, just putting that on your radar. The club needs to raise funds for another striker. So keep your eye on Aaron.

Ok, how about this… we had David Seaman on The AOP podcast and he was brilliant. Matt Kandela took the interview and it was a fascinating listen. He talks about some items I didn’t know about, like a major club that tried to sign him before Arsenal. He voiced his thoughts on the work that Arsenal coaching staff are putting in. He also spoke about the ever-changing game. What a TOP guy. So happy he decided to chat with us.

You can listen to the hour special here. Get on it. You’ll love it!

Hello first .. what are the odds

Madhu

Agree Pedro Thierry Henry not winning Ballon is a travesty and the season he came.second who won it Pavel Nedwed of Juventus. That’s a joke.

Is is because everyone else resents the Premiership for (to quote Wenger) “financial doping”

On Ramsdale the history of our transfer dealings with Chelsea makes me we think we will get one of their rejects in exchange and have to pay them 30 million.

Siddeeq

If Liverpool the EPL, Salah takes the Ballon.

Ramsdale is gone he doesnt follow instructions.

Next to go should be 2 or more of the crocks. Partey, Tomi, Jesus, Zinch in that order.

Siddeeq

The narrative Wilshere was overplayed isnt true. The boy just had brittle bones and weak tissue.

He had bandy legs, a sign of calcium and vitamin D deficiency during childhood. A common working class problem

Getting rid of Tomi would be madness! Letting Partey, Jesus and Zinchenko go would be really smart moves, all 3 are unreliable and easily upgraded. Does Arteta have it in him to get rid of his City mates? I very much doubt it!!

Tom

Getting upset over who won Ballon is like getting upset over who won the Oscars.
Nedved won one the year Henry had more than double his goals and assists tally, and if you asked anyone outside of Czech Republic to compile a top 100 list, Nedved would most likely not even be on it.

As an aside, what are the odds TR7 will be submitting Messi’ s candidacy for another decade or so?
I’d say pretty high.

Northbanker

Only Partey from that list. The rest all have a major part to play in the squad as we gradually fill it up with Academy recruits.

Partey still appears to have off field issues and is the oldest of that lot, and as Rice clearly looks like he is completely settled in, , yes it is time for him to go. Not sure though we will get a fee from Juventus. Only Saudi viable for paying us.

Northbanker

If Timber makes full recovery then in time he will replace Zinchenko with Sousa our Hale ender back up.

At the moment though we seem to be veering to using Zinny for deployment against bus parking teams with Tomi for the top tier teams where we need a tighter defence. All makes perfect sense

Gonsterous

If we sell ramsdale in jan. Every keeper will be overpriced come June because they will know, we don’t have any one. Terrible transfer dealing. Keep ramsdale till June and then see if we can get Raya in permanently before selling ramsdale.

Worst case scenario. The deal with Raya falls out because of whatever reason, leaving us scrambling around looking for 2 keepers to replace.

Northbanker

Gonsterous – totally agree.

Madhu

Gonsterous – to be able to keep Rams till end of the season, he should be given game time otherwise he will put in a transfer request. The problem is that Arteta is not giving even a hint of chance that Ramsdale can earn his place bac=. Given that he is in England squad why would be waste his team on Arsenal’s bench rather than got to a Chelsea. This is a classic way to devalue your asset and we have seen this scenario before in the last 4 season. yet we complain that we dont sell well.

benkind

Winners are rewarded. That is the reality of these awards. Those who vote are not Arsenal fans, they don’t care about process and phases and nearly. They care about winning. Julian Alvarez scored in the world cup, champions league semi finals against Madrid, scored important goals in the league. He won 4 trophies and wasnt just a passenger in his first season in a new league. Yet China1 thinks Saka should be ranked ahead of him. I always say it, our players are not the best in their positions. We won nothing. Saka did nothing in the league, no trophy,… Read more »

Patino has been having a nice loan so far, if he can be counted on for next year that would be tremendous. Assuming Timber is considered as a RB, I think we’ll look at a LB pretty soon. Upgrading the starting striker will not be as easy as said though.

Wicked Willy

“Letting Partey, Jesus and Zinchenko go would be really smart moves, all 3 are unreliable and easily upgraded.“ Most people would be on board with Partey exit. I’m not sure that letting Zinchenko go now is smart at all. He is a world class build up merchant which is exactly what we need against low blocks. I don’t think he’s easily replaced at all. And Jesus? I f*cking love the guy. I think he is as important as Saliba, Saka and Rice in helping us achieve our peak level. His non penalty g/a per 90 is also exceptional. Fair enough… Read more »

kjelli

Not overly interested in Seaman, but Saka’s stance is curious.. Eddie is in the same mould, but Nelson is not there jet.. avoid selling Ramsdale to Chelski, we have a history of failures dealing
with them lot. Can’t wait for Timber to recover, get his brother into the mix asap

Northbanker

Ramsdale funds would first have to be applied to buying a replacement keeper. That’s 10-20m taken care of before any striker is considered

If city hadnt been financially doped id agree with you. after haaland messi deserves it. He won the World cup and did relatively well considering how horrendous and badly run PSG are. City with their 100+ sanctions, being caught out in the past only to get away because of the foolish rules in UEFa suggests to me City are run unfairly and are cheaters. So haaland not winning it is fair game, cant deserve a prize for cheating your way to the top. it aint his fault but he should have chosen another club

Colney Gooner

Someone gets an injury and all of a sudden he’s a crock and should be sold, what utter claptrap! I’m in agreement that Partey needs to be shipped out (obviously a top replacement will be required) but as for the others, Tomi, Zinchenko and Jesus, ridiculous suggestion.

https://youtu.be/If5WsMbgeDI?si=BEUVHxXglenITcp- Watching this conversation of Thierry Henry talking about wenger had me thinking that maybe Arteta could coach the Arsenal strikers to learn a little in how to adapt their game when playing with different players around them.. Henry was saying how wenger said that he needed to make different runs for different players as not all players see the same picture، for instance Ljundberg plays with his head down and Bergkamp plays with his head up ، so making the same runs for each player is futile as Freddie doesn’t see the whole of the pitch، similar to Martinelli… Read more »

The other players in the stat are a proof that the better the chances you get, the more goals you’ll score.

Eddie is in a fantastic company for a reason. If he’s played more, he’ll be more calm, more composed in time and will start scoring a bunch. Not saying he should permanently be our starting CF but that he is as good as you can get in a #2 CF.

GD4

@Pierre,
You may be on to something about Odegaard and his relationship with certain players. I think he’s missing not only Partey but Xhaka. Despite my dislike for him and his past shenanigans, I thought the new role created for him by Mikel saw him thrive and he worked well for Odegaard.

The Chelsea saboteurs are useless filling in for Xhaka or Partey and the sooner we cut our losses the better …

Henry was robbed of the Ballon Dor not once but twice. He also deserved it in 2006 as he was at his peak then and imo Ronaldinho’s peak was the season before that and Henry outshone him in 2005/06. Cannavaro won the award which was silly because he had an average domestic campaign with Juventus (who we and Henry dominated at Highbury) and Italy won the World Cup on penalties, not exactly in convincing fashion. Newcastle visiting an emotionally damaged Man Utd tomorrow might be an opportunity for Howe to go strong and progress in this competition at United’s expense. It’s a conundrum for Eddie H with Arsenal visiting this weekend.

So maybe not as much rotation as first thought for both Arsenal and Newcastle tomorrow evening with both managers taking the League Cup seriously, just as Guardiola does?

WengerEagle

Lukaku gets disrespected way too much imo. Yes he’s not an elite ST and he’s got a horrendous touch for the calibre of player he is but his goalscoring record is truly impressive. He’s also spearheaded a Scuedtto win for Inter Milan and is comfortably in the 100+ PL goal club (121 PL goals, 20 more goals than Drogba for reference) despite having only played 1 season there since he was 25-26. Eddie is always eager to make the run thus making the pitch bigger. Problem here is if ode doesn’t have the pass early then he’s easily caught up with and ode doesn’t like open space he finds it difficult to control transitions in such scenarios,

I think Arteta demands not to make that early pass and risk letting the opposition have the ball

So we’re going to sell the keeper voted in the team of last season to raise money for another striker . Surely it would have been better to sign a striker with the £65m completely wasted on Havertz and kept Ramsdale as number 1.

It’s amazing to watch the shit show that is United at the moment, I just wish we could bask in this glorious Ten Bob era a bit more by putting 8 past them at some point; I want that 8-2 back so badly. raptora

Raul, I hear you about the freak injury Tomi had, but I’m looking at his tranfermarkt injury profile.
Came to Europe in 19/20.

Due to injuries:
19/20 ~80 days missed
20/21 ~60 days missed
21/22 ~60 days missed
22/23 ~110 days missed

Since he was 21 yo, he’s been out for so long every single season.

I’m still annoyed at him. If we had him when Saliba got injured, we would have maybe dealt with it in a much better way. He cost us big time cause he barely even played and still got injured. That’s so bad.

Raulishuss

Raptora

Tommy is quality player that provides depth. He’s absolutely valuable to us especially when he’s already developed with team. Breath and accept tommy is here. Plus its a gradual process with replacing key players. I don’t see Jesus as an automatic starter next season and I won’t be surprised if he’s sold in couple of season. Fair enough
That’s your opinion
But he’s a solid and versatile player that adds layers to our squad in many positions
He is capable of adapting to many situations and game states and gives us so many options
I’m not so sure he’s a crock
Some players get a couple of unlucky years then put it behind them
Gerrard, rvp, cesc, keane. Others don’t. Tomi looks like a robust lad. I wouldn’t sell him just yet. Especially when we are tight for defenders and we don’t know how timber will recover

Naija+soccer

I love ESR’s simplistic yet very effective way of playing. I think Arteta not starting him or playing jim enough isnspiting himself and the strength of his team.

I have no doubt he is a KDB in the making with more goals.

Naija+soccer

Raptora

Let’s hope he can be more injury free this season cuz when he’s available he’s a top top player.

Naija+soccer

If Arteta wants Nketiah to score more goals he’s gonna have to start ESR and Trosaard more. Those guys offer first time passes or assists, something Nketiah and his runs excels at.

He’s kept him despite all the links and bids
He’s ensured he’s stayed fit
And now he’s getting played and showing what he can do, albeit to a lesser degree
He chose him over vieira and Odegaard at the weekend
I’ve very little doubt that he will get more game time this season and he will show that he’s one of the best 2 players in the advanced 8 positions
He’s too good not to

Davey I never said Van Nistlerooy wasn’t a great striker, I said there’s a good argument he never made United a better team. Football is a team game, while there’s plenty of stories of elite talents elevating teams to new heights…. There’s also plenty of examples where those elite talents can stifle the overall balance of the collective. The way we currently play isn’t designed for a single superstar to shine, it’s designed for the team to be the superstar… No big egos, no arm waving… The question we need to know…. Is based on the players we have, does… Read more »

Rich has just said:

“We looked better with Lacazette”

Disregard everything this junkie says from now on.

You do make a point. Spurs is a great example. But, having a goal machine in your team does a couple of things. 1. They score more often than not and ergo, put you in a place to win games. 2. They occupy defenders because of their threat.

I’d rather we had a proper striker than what we currently have.

Davey

Totally agree Guns of Hackney, I did understand what you said Rich but you are still talking out of your arse!

Rich

GOH In our current system our centre forwards role is to drop wide + deep, and create overlords… That then leaves space for our 2 x No8s and 2 x wide players to exploit. Firmino did a slightly different job for Liverpool… Their wide forwards starting positions were more central, and they’d get their width from their full backs…. But that system means you don’t get much attacking threat from your 3 midfielders, who are used as structure players behind the ball. There’s plenty of examples of clubs succeeding both with and without traditional centre forwards… The other thing to… Read more »

Every team needs a focal point of a top goal scorer, granted there are less out there but in his 1st season for city for City the beast scores over 50 goals and his team win the treble.

It’s not about a system per say. I think the players generally determine the tactics. If we had osihmen for example sure we’ll adjust accordingly. Plus your point on rvn is a moot point as he was instrumental in achieving success in that team.untill he had a fall out with Fergie and Fergie reshuffled and rudd was not hopeless outside the box either he was very intelligent in his link up imo

Rich

Van Nistelrooy at United. 5 seasons 1 PL title 1 FA Cup 1 League Cup. United in the 5 previous seasons before Van Nistelrooy: 4 PL titles 1 CL 1 FA Cup United in the 5 seasons after Van Nistelrooy left: 4 PL titles 1 CL 1 League Cup 1 World Club Cup There could be a number of reasons why that was… But at least in terms of trophies, Van Nistelrooy never made United a more successful team. In 2012/13… There’s the idea that RVP elevated United to the title… There may be some truth in that… But in… Read more »

Davey

The 5 seasons he was there there was a shit hot team called Arsenal to stop United winning more?

Guns of Hackney

Rich you crack head.

Why has football got so complicated?

Our system is working sort of…but none of our forwards carry genuine threat. Maybe Saka but not really. Not in a conventional sense.

I don’t think anyone we play is scared of our players. I don’t think they set up to do something to nullify our attack.

I don’t want to drag up the past but there were players that literally occupied a whole defence just by turning up. That’s a huge advantage straight off.

I’m old school and see a forward as a massive plus.

Guns of Hackney

Yeah shout out for Nistlerooy. Detested him while he was playing but holy shit, could that boy score goals.

Rich

Davey It’s all well and going having the ambition to sign a centre forward who averages a goal contribution every 70 minutes… I’m all for trying to find one… I just don’t think securing one is that easy… The last time we had a top 3 player in the world was Henry back in 2006. Without doubt peak Suarez was the greatest centre forward of a generation….. And stylistically I’d much rather that style of centre forward to Haaland…. Because Suarez offered much more to the overall balance of the teams he played in. In our current system our centre… Read more »

Rich Osiman is good. My pick would have been Vlahovic. I think he’s the real deal and really like his energy. I even like Hojland at United. He’s just in a wickedly bad team. I get the whole socialist collective thing but I believe you need that one player that can change a whole game. I don’t think we have it. Remember when we played Florentina back in the dark Wembley days. Batigoal was kept off the ball for 89 mins. Didn’t touch it. Stank the place up. He touched it once and scored. We got beat. That’s the magic.… Read more »
