RAYA PROPAGANDA

What do we want?

NO INJURIES

When do we want it?

All season.

Sometimes you need a crap opener to loosen the typing fingers.

Arsenal internet seems to be buzzing along, beating City for the first time since 1942 is a helluva salve for an international break.

David Raya is getting some just praise for his performance and some folk are going out of their way to put context on some of his passing statistics this season.

Basically, there’s a hipster movement that is slapping people down for getting angry at the passing of David Raya. Whilst I do consider myself as part of any Arsenal hipster movement, you can’t ignore the first half of David Raya against City, and you can’t ignore some of the errors we’ve seen over the past few weeks. He fucked up against Lens and he wasn’t great for the defence in the first half against City with some very loose decision-making.

BUT…

He’s a new player, playing at a big club for the first time, learning the movements of much better players. He’s going to fuck up. It takes time to bed yourself in. There is such a lack of empathy for new talent. Not everyone can slip into a system as well as Declan Rice, but at the same time, not every player costs £105m.

David Raya, however you cut it, is a better keeper than Aaron Ramsdale. That’s why he’s #1.

Kai Havertz is in a similar boat – I think his second-half performance against City took the pressure off him a little. We know he’s decent. But I think a lot of people liked him as a #9 or maybe see his talents as a false 9.

Again, he’s learning a new position, at a new club, with a new coach who demands a lot of his players. What we all like about him is:

  • He’s calm on the ball
  • He offers a lot of control
  • He works like a dog
  • He offers us aerial power and a lot of aggression

We’re still waiting for him to bang, but the talent is there, and it doesn’t matter how much you dislike him, you can’t deny that we’re doing well with him in the side.

We’re 2 points better off than we were last season, we’ve conceded 2 fewer goals, and we’ve scored 2 less.

Not bad. We are on the March to a very good season.

Bukayo Saka went out to England camp, it was reported they were checking his injury. I’m not sure I totally believe that. Arsenal probably have pretty good relations with the Arsenal medics – because they have to. My guess is maybe Bukayo wanted to be around the squad. Most Premier League fans don’t like international football, but the players do. When you’re a big name, you want to be around your brothers in arms.

It’s also good news from an injury perspective. He’s fit enough to go to camp. If he had a big problem, he’d be sat on a sofa. My suspicions are that he’ll be ready after the break. We’ll need him, three games in a week, three that we need to win. Trossard returned from injury after a similar hamstring issue (that blew up against City).

The next batch of the season is going to be exciting. We’ll have bigger squad of players to choose from, players will feel more comfortable in the system, and there will be that bonding XP you get from a massive win.

Right, short one today, jump on our post.

Rams the better one to keep the ball out of the net.

“Not everyone can slip into a system as well as Declan Rice, but at the same time, not every player costs £105m.“ Apples to oranges, Pedro. The only reason we don’t have keepers turned pundits talk about how difficult it is to do what these modern keepers are asked to do is because none of the retired ones had to do it on this scale or at all, and the ones still playing can’t really talk about in such manner without sounding like making excuses. A bad decision from a 6 with ball at his feet isn’t even close to… Read more »

Could it not be that the fewer goals conceded is because of the better defense of Gabs & Saliba?

If you want better playing out of the back from your GK, stick a midfielder between the sticks and see how he will keep the ball out of the net. Raya is inferior to Rams when iit comes to set pieces, crosses Raya showed he had problems in the Lens match.

An again the GK situation is a total making of Arteta, want there at the start of the season.

“He’s going to fuck up. It takes time to bed yourself in.”

Arsenal bought Raya after league started, this wouldn’t be an issue if our execs hadn’t change their minds about Ramsdale at last minute, the Spaniard would’ve had time to bed in during pre season.

“David Raya, however you cut it, is a better keeper than Aaron Ramsdale. That’s why he’s #1”

No Sir!

David Raya is a better keeper for how Arteta wants to play!

Aaron was also once new to the big scene and I doubt that he made as many errors as Raya seems to be making while bedding in.

The difference between both keepers is marginal on my opinion.

Raptora, Why the hysteria today about Balogun. Everything I said was true about Baloguns ACTIONS- (also documented by Tom Canton on the gooner talk- one of the most followed Arsenal pods).. ask Pedro, he knows him. It’s kind of shitty for you to leave out the little games Balogun was pulling, that were designed to get his preferred move to (skint) Inter Milan. It’s a learning process for Ramsdale. He said so himself, and so has Arteta. A key fact is that Ramsdale is ‘inspirational’. It’s merely, as Arteta has said, of being a little bolder, of operating a little higher.

Balogun not goos enough fro us just like Eddie, and looks like he is a prick. Actually Arsenal golkiper situation is great. Solid competition. By the end of the year better one or both stays.

Jurrien Timber was not expected to play any significant role this season as recent as three weeks ago, but now there’s hopes that he could return to training as early as late January, which might have an influence on January transfer business even if he probably won’t be available until late February/early March?

What’s is being done with Rams is not fair. Wth Raya in the team Rams should be given enough chances to prove himself. Let them fight it out this season and let the best man remain next. If Man U who is struggling for a decent GK gomes in with a 50 M offer in Jan for Rams would you let him leave. Rams should be given a fair chance to prove he can do what Raya does.

Kpankalu ‘Spare me the revisionist history drivel gospel according to Saint Folarin’. I can definitely see how his behavior away from the club probably aggravated the management, especially Arteta. Balogun joined us when he was a young kid. Through his leaving, the club received £35m with the promise of more. He was a Hale End success story. Anything else is heresay and a matter of conjecture. Personally I find Nigel T’s attack unnecessarily malicious. Jesus can’t play in two places simultaneously. He’s a great No 9 but if Saka is unavailable he’s the best replacement for him but when he plays out wide, Eddie is not a top quality replacement. Bob N16

Raptora, I think we need one more top quality forward in. Martinelli, Jesus and Saka are there, we need one more. Eddie, Trossard and Nelson are too much of a drop in standard. We can get away with it against all but the top teams but if we have injuries there’d be an issue.

Numbers are not the issue. With a clear front three, Arteta appears loathe to rotate. If we had more depth, he would be less inclined to over play.

Northbanker

Why the fuck is everyone still talking about Balogun? He’s gone so get over it

He has become Guendouzi Mark II

Bob N16

Chill out Northbanker! Nothing to ‘get over’. After he was slagged off last night I felt that it should be remembered that he was a Hale End success story. Guendouzi was with us for two years, nothing compared to the 10+ years of Balogun and the money is hardly comparative.

Bilbo

MG42 – the question is, round numbers, we sold him for 50m. Has he got higher than a 50/50 chance of becoming a 100m striker? If he’s not then we made the right decision to sell him.

Tom is correct, mistakes in GK(and CB) positions can be costly.

Raya has been only marginally better than Ramsdale.

I feel Raya would be better evaluated against following teams
Pool, NUFC – teams good at pressing and quality upfront
Everton, Brentford, Wham – direct football teams with tall and physical players

Markymark

Never had a moments regret over Balogun. Though he was entirely raw I didn’t see much at the Covid hit Brentford away to see a consistent star in the making. That game also killed Leno.
His PR campaign was rubbish as well so Arteta had to sort that one out. Compare to the diamond of Hale End ESR who has recently said I’m at Arsenal till Arteta no longer needs me. If you like a retro Arsenal shirt, they have released some ‘new’ ones today on the website shop.

The pool of top quality strikers seems to get smaller gear on year. I feel that if you have 3/4 top quality options who can play left, right and centre then you are in a very good place.

It’s what I like about Jesus, such a quality player who can flourish out wide but also has the ability to play central (if only he was ever so slightly more clinical). Trossard had a run of few games last season playing central/false 9 and was outstanding.

Not enough people reflect on the IFAB rule changes we have had, the last one in 2020 had a huge impact on the game. Strikers need to be more than just goal poachers, as they often were, or big lumps to… Read more »
