ARSENAL VS EVERTON – DAVID RAYA STARTS!

by .

Well hello, my darlings… it’s Sunday; we’re playing Everton away from home; tell me why you shouldn’t be worried?

I can’t.

We should be panic-stricken.

Everton – is obviously a terrible outfit, but unfortunately, they’ve been underperforming their xG.

Yes, they have played mostly poor teams. But the people that are actually tuned in… you know, the folk that read the game purely on dataless vibes will tell you this… we could get smacked up.

Everton were handed their own backsides by Unai Emery in the first two games of the season, but since then, they’ve created a lot of good chances, they just haven’t finished. The have a new striker called Beto who used to work in a KFC – he’s on the PL site today basically saying he has no talent but he works hard. Can you think of a better headline to go out the morning of our game?

Going away to Goodison Park when you are Arsenal is the worst type of road trip. Everton willl multiply their effort, we’ll decide we’re shit, and it’ll be a horrible afternoon. Everton, under Mr Dyche, is basically a regen of BIG Sam Bolton from back in the day.

Team news is BRUTAL if your name is Aaron Ramsdale, the English keeper, fresh of an international cap, has been benched for David Raya. I didn’t think the debut would come this soon, but here we are. Aaron hasn’t showered himself in glory this season, it was only a matter of time, now let’s see what Raya has up his sleeve. I’m looking for more saves and better passing.

Eddie keeps his place, Fabio takes over from Haverts, and Big Gabi is BACK.

I like it. What you saying?

Why is a win important? Because every win is important this season if we want to go past 90 points. There are also positives happening at clubs we don’t like.

Spurs were losing to Sheff U, the worst team in the league, up until the 90th minute. But they recovered the game once gifted 15 minutes of injury time. Not cool. The super fun Aussie manager is proving out a reality of modern football > the only way to win with players in 2023 is by creating a great environment to work in. You can’t be a whopper these days. Conte and Jose failed with their managerial vision of misery and this Aussie with nothing more than relatable quips about the working class is crushing it.

We have them after PSV… buckle up.

Let’s talk United.

EtH… the literal last manager the Le Grove comments section BEGGED for circa 2017-23, is deeply in the mud. The man who put discipline first, seems to be struggling. He took the mayo from the kitchen, he decided to eviscerate a player with a mental health issues publicly, and he truly believed banging the table of standards was a good idea… after spending £175m on Antony and Casemiro.

… anyway, Welbz ended United yesterday. EtH, tactical genius, famed for LONG BALL TO RASHFORD thinking, fell to Roberto De Zerbi.

Erik ten Haag has been telling the media over and over again that he is the boss and two year in… it seems like that aggressive behavior is having ZERO impact on the players. Booed at halftime… booed at fulltime. Worst United start in 900 years. Let’s just hope it’s not over too soon. Biggest threat to the rest of the league is United hiring De Zerbi. In fact, let’s be clear, whoever fires their manager first will go for De Zerbi, and that will be a masterstroke.

Since he took over at Brighton they are:

  • 1st in shots
  • 1st in shot on target
  • 3rd for touches in the opposing box
  • 2nd for expected goals
  •  2nd for possession

Liverpool, a team in a HUGE mess, beat Wolves. Let’s be clear: they weren’t amazing, and the luck went their way. Either way. they’re full of goals this season, and Klopp is still a beast of a manager.

Right now I’m watching Chelsea labor against Bournemouth. After spending a billion, Connor Gallagher is their captain, and Sterling is still their best player. It’s such a weird setup they have. Clearly there’s a lot of talent, at least on paper, but the whole thing looks a way off banging. Mudryk still does not look like the player we all dreamed of.

Right, that’s me done, gonna go and prepare mentally for the game. If you want to join us On The Whistle, save your place below.

Second – and have now read the post

Mark S

Good morning Le Grover’s!

TT

Trophy

Mark S

Tr4phy today….and hopefully 3 points at a place where we struggle for no real reason.

Mark S

Sorry TT….not today. 😉

Logie Bear

Surprised Raya already starting – is Tets saving Ramsdale for PSV perhaps?

ADKB

I’ll try for Tr4phy

Leftside

We must come away with something, it has been long overdue. COYG

Josip Skoblar

My prediction:
Everton-Arsenal 0-2.
COYG!!!!

NJ Gooner

Like Havertz today, I’m the 12th man.

TR7

Relieved Harvertz is not starting yet again. Would have loved to see ESR start but Viera preferred to ESR.

Berg10kamp

COYG!!!! 3 points and a solid performance.

TR7

And yes I have always considered Ramsdale a liability for Arsenal, it will be a good thing for Arsenal if Raya does well.

NJ Gooner

The subs bench looks like a possible list of starting players for the PSV game. Can’t help but think that this is the three-game rotation strategy.

englandsbest

This XI is cued in on the Arteta MO. They should hit the ground running. Speed of thought and action. And a very strong bench. Defensive midfield is maybe a weak point.

Samesong

Freddie, I think Viera new found confidence will surprise people today.
Those little fouls he will win and through balls will be needed today. it’s not always about physicality.

TheLegendaryDB106

From previous post

What an interesting line-up.

Raya playing instead of Ramsdale and Fabio on instead of Havertz.

And with Eddie playing up top, I see Gabby J being subbed in to act as the wrecking ball for the last 30 mins of the game.

It would be great to see both score a goal today and give us the 3 points!!

MidwestGun

Just get the 3 points. Then we can hash out the meaning of things.. Is the way I look at it.

TheLegendaryDB106

The interview angle with Arteta was interesting. All about whether it is about rotation re Raya and Fabio. For Raya, Arteta says that it is part of having two great players in every position and getting him ready when games come thick and fast once CL starts. As for Fabio, it is because he deserves it over Havertz. I have to say that Fabio has impressed when he was subbed in the last 2 games. So let’s see if he can make that position his, because he has really progressed and does deserve to show what he can do. Although,… Read more »

We better win today or Le grove will be talking about how Brighton’s B team dismantled manure yesterday while we struggled against manure a week earlier.

Mr Serge

Interested to see Vieira and raya today we need this win to break the hoodoo

Johng

COYG. Big game performance required today, surprised Fabio has been given the nod on what is traditionally a very physical game, let’s hope he is up for it as midfield will be super important today

local

I am more surprized by Vieira replacing Kai than Raya replacing Aaron.

Most people (including myself) thought that this was the type of fixture for which Kai was brought in.

3 points please.

Mr Serge

Same I thought this would be a game that Kai makes a difference in

Dissenter

It’s still 11 Arsenal players starting today so it makes no difference

Will Everton get a new owner bounce today?

Northbanker

Really excited to see what Fabio can do over 90 minutes

To use a cliche, it’s like signing a new player or it will be if he performs against Everton’s bootboys. Let’s hope the referee has finally been to spec savers for this one

Johng

If he has offered them a bonus

Fire

Looking at our bench without Partey and Timber. We have a really strong Squad

Northbanker

And Raya’s distribution also going to be a telling moment

Right signing off now as don’t want to read the negativity if this doesn’t go smoothly

TR7

“Same I thought this would be a game that Kai makes a difference in”

Harvertz is a forward player whose primary job is to create chances. Winning duels/aerial balls and physicality are his secondary attributes/job. If a player is not delivering on his primary job role then he shouldn’t be picked for what is his secondary role.

Nigel Tufnel

Pedro is so excited about Raya I have to listen to the pod on the whistle. We have hold off with criticism on the changes because we all want Arteta to be braver in rotation… so I love these moves…. and I am the BIGGEST supporter of Havertz on here. Also, I’ve been saying Ramsdale will be our main keeper long term, so even with Raya getting games, Rambo will maintain his status by performance overall. At least that’s my prediction. Raya is a great option though, so this is all good news for the club…. To have the talented… Read more »

ADKB

Yeah, interesting line-up! Has Mike finally “seen the light”? Havertz wasn’t really working and Raya comes in for Ramsdale. Hope we see more of this “pick-n-mix” depending on our opponents rather than blind faith in some players.

TheLegendaryDB106

Well speaking of Wally, he is in the Sky Sports pundit seat next to Henry I think!! (Just heard their voices).

jwl

And it’s Arsenal,
Arsenal FC,
We’re by far the greatest team,
The world has ever seen…

Samesong

Same I thought this would be a game that Kai makes a difference in

Yes off the bench

Gonsterous

Will we get a rare glimpse of ESR on the pitch today?? I’m putting my house on “No”!!

Dissenter

You will never find a neutral fan, commentator or analysts that thinks Raya is a better goal keeper than Ramsdale
Let’s just go win this one.

MidwestGun

Alright… Let’s GO!!!

TheLegendaryDB106

Come on The Arsenal!!!!

Nigel Tufnel

TR7 makes a good point.
Also this can be looked at as: Arteta is thinking we should play around and through Dyche type tactics, rather than match them at their size game, which gives them maybe too much respect.
That’s what bringing in a small and technical player can mean.

Un

Nice football down the right already
Well In deco

Mee

On paper, Everton have a pretty decent midfield which when coupled with a very blunt attack makes them far less threatening. 3-0 to the good guys!!

MidwestGun

Love when we get to wear the home kits on the road. Feels like watching a proper game rather than some of the crazy road kits.

Dissenter

The Raya distribution stats was artificially boosted by the long passes to Ivan Toney, the king of one on one duels in the league.
Let’s see if he can replicate it without a big man up top.

Mee

On another note, cannot believe Ashley Young is still playing in the PL… must be a total pro in terms of taking care of himself.

Gonsterous

Rice seems up for it. More comfortable line up and formation. Not missing Partey thanks to rice. Viera providing good support for martinelli.

Let’s go win this !!! Cmon you gunners !!!

Dissenter

Mee
‘ On another note, cannot believe Ashley Young is still playing in the PL… must be a total pro in terms of taking care of himself.’

You’re seeing that a lot these days
Players who were brought up in the era of advanced sport science having extended careers, so long as injuries haven’t stymied them.

Un

Martinelli 🤦🏻‍♂️

Dissenter

Gonsterous
I believe Martinelli and Vierra are also best pals, inseparable in the squad.

Un

I’d have thought we would have started raya with Havertz. There’s no target for his 60 yard clip

Useroz

Good starting 8 mins. Be bold boys…

Un

Martinelli 🤦🏻‍♂️ again

Useroz

Vieira got to hit the target from there

MidwestGun

Mmmmmm. Keep it down Fabio.

TheLegendaryDB106

Come on Fabio, you can do better than that!!

Un

Got to do better there vieira

Dissenter

Un
What’s your beef with Martinelli?
Something about being called Gabriel, it must seem

Mee

Dissenter
True about sport science but it still requires a lot of great attitude to reinvent oneself over the years at the highest level. All the same, I would totally target Young considering Martinelli was two years old when Ashley Young made his PL debut…2003!

Un

Rice looks so fucking comfortable already
He is just every where doing everything perfectly

Useroz

Press prickford eddie

Dissenter

We aren’t going them problems so far
Just chugging along , begging to give the home crowd something to cheer for

MidwestGun

Damn Raya can kick it long on a rope that’s for sure.

Useroz

Zinchenko needs to release quicker we have several runners.who can hurt everton

Un

Diss

He’s given away possession twice when he should have done better
You not watching?

Un

Diss
Early rounds
Just using our jab and feeling our way in

TheLegendaryDB106

Great work by Rice to get the ball back and get the foul.

MidwestGun

Un … no actually Marti slipped down once on the 10 inch long grass.

TR7

Declan Rice very very impressive, dealing with physicality of Everton with much ease. Odegaard also really working hard.

Dissenter

Declan Rice is a physical footballing specimen
He covers the field like he’s on roller skates

Montana Gooner

Man, Rice is just so chill. Worth every penny.

Un

What a signing Rice is
He is the bergkamp moment of this generation

Goona

Ffs someone shoot

Un

Come on Saka
Got to commit your man
Showing too much of it

Goona

You beauty

Useroz

Martinelli

1

Samesong

Un
loooool

MidwestGun

Hahaha Yesss Nice one!! Get IN!

Dissenter

I do like how Arteta’ is rewarding good performances with starting selections

TheLegendaryDB106

Well done Marti!!!!!

Lovely goal!!!!

Samesong

Neville “Thierry Henry”

Useroz

Vat raises its ugly head again

Dissenter

Looks like offsides though

Gonsterous

Get Innn!!! Martinelli too lethal in front of goal!!!

Dissenter

Eddie was coming from an offside position

Goona

Lol fuck var

Jamie

Marti my boy is elite

Dissenter

Offside

Gonsterous

How is that offside?? It touched their player last before falling to our player.

Useroz

Thickness of Eddie’s heel went offside lil

Montana Gooner

What the fuck

TheLegendaryDB106

What?????

Marti was not offside!!!

Un

Great goal
Another Fabio assist
Great stuff marti
That’s where he’s best
Off the shoulder

Mr Serge

That is just cheating I am sorry someone needs to be sacked

TR7

See Vieira again slips in a great pass to create a goalscoring opportunity.

Forward players should create chances when they get the ball in a good position.

Shame it’s adjudged offside.

MidwestGun

Whenever … they go to Var .. I just assume we are fucked anymore.

Gonsterous

Has football rules changed? So now a defender can do a back pass to the keeper if a player is in an offside position?

The ball clearly touches an everton player before it goes towards goal…

TheLegendaryDB106

VAR

They show one angle, not the full action.

And deem it offside. Terrible, terrible reffing.

Guns of SF

Come on lets go!
