JORGINHO CAPS VERY GOOD WINDOW – SLANDER MUST STOP!

by .

Arsenal dropped a deadline day BOMBSHELL and signed Chelsea’s #6, Jorginho.

It was highly amusing to watch all the passenger-seat-Technical-Directors spew vitriol all over the internet, because the truth of the matter is this is the best possible deal we could have done if our main targets weren’t going to move.

Just remember, the meltdown last January was ‘ANYONE WOULD BE BETTER THAN NO ONE’… the meltdown this January is ‘I DON’T LIKE THAT WE DIDN’T SIGN A SUPERSTAR.’

Where’s the consistency?

Here’s the thing people don’t understand about transfers:

  • Four parties have to agree to the deal. The two clubs, the player, and the agent. That is a complicated dance.
  • There are very few players in world football that fit the profile we need, you can’t pass on Caicedo and think Onana would do the same job.
    • We have limited resources, we can’t afford to make mistakes
  • That scarcity means there will usually be competition
  • When clubs have a player they like, they are not compelled to sell them
  • Selling clubs do not work to the buying clubs’ timeline
  • Missing out on a top target is something that happens to all the big clubs
  • The main job of a Technical Director is the put a squad in the hands of the manager that is capable of winning

Brighton didn’t want to sell Caciedo. Sometimes no means ‘try again’ and it would appear Arsenal tried a few times and the answer was still no.

‘WE SHOULD HAVE MOVED ON TO OTHER TARGETS’

Maybe, but if you have a very specific player you want, holding on can make more sense. It took Arsenal until the end of the window to negotiate deals for Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard, are you glad we did that? Of course. Walking away isn’t always the right move.

When you find out you aren’t going to get your main target, you have to have a plan B that works for the team. Plan Bs might not feel sexy, they might not meet the rush of dopamine a plan A gives you, but they can still be functional.

That is where we are with Jorginho. A player that Arteta tried to sign when he first joined – to which Arsenal fans said ‘he is too slow and he is a bum’ then he won the Champions League and landed 2 top 4 finishes. It is also worth noting that ‘big club’ City also missed out on him when Pep tried to buy him.

The player a little like Xhaka. Fans don’t get him, but managers do. Jorginho doesn’t have the power of Thomas Partey, but he has the attributes that matter to Arteta at the base of midfield.

Jorginho is brave, he is cynical, he knows the game at the highest level, and he can do most of the things that Thomas Partey can do.

Thomas Partey is a 9.5/10

Big Mo is a 5/10

Sambi is a 2/10

Jorginho is giving you a 7.5/10 every game. The level of the team doesn’t drop, and the outlet of a fastball progression isn’t lost. He can also intercept and put the ball into the creators at speed. He’s a server from the base of midfield.

The fee is said to be £12m. A chunk of that will have been given to the player by Chelsea to pay of his deal and his loyalty bonus. I suspect Arsenal has landed him on around £100k a week. He’s low-risk, the Arsenal players are very happy with him, and he gives us so much more security for the run-in.

The job I hope he has to do is a simple one: Step in for 6-8 games and do a decent enough job so we can rotate Thomas.

Can he do it?

Of course he can. All these cry babies saying he’d a terrible player seem to forget this guy was in the UEFA team of the year 18 months ago, a credible shout for the Balon D’or, an international tournament winner. You don’t think he can come in and keep the midfield going against Bournemouth, Brighton, and a Europa League team? Are you mad?

It’s also worth remembering that he’s not downgrading at Arsenal, he’s moving to a team contending the league more closely than Chelsea has in the last 5 years.

The same people that freak out about every Arsenal transfer are doing the same here.

You don’t even need vision to see why this transfer makes sense. A fit, ready-made player, who has won things, dropping in as back-up for Elneny.

This is a win.

That gives Arsenal the chance to move on to their big #6 target this summer. And let me be controversial here, I think the ‘we’re going for Rice and Caciedo’ is media filler because we’re only going to get one. Big Mo will sign on, Partey ain’t going nowhere, We have Patino coming back… why would we get two #6 players for £150m?

That’s a story for another day.

The Edu slander is also a nonsense. His job is to give Arteta a team capable of winning trophies. That job has clearly been done.

His business KPIs do not include winning every deal Arsenal go in.

He will not be rewarded for massive overspending on players.

He has got himself a new deal because he has shown discipline in the transfer market and thought longterm. Last January, we walked away from Vlahovic and made BETTER moves in the summer.

Edu is the best Technical Director since David Dein. He spends money, makes deals happen, has a good eye for talent, and he has never lost a player of note to a free transfer.

Put some respect on the job he’s done.

We exit the window with a left-sided centre back that has the same profile as Lisandro Martinez.

We have a left sided midfielder that can slip into the team and give the same levels as Martinelli.

We have a #6 that can come in and keep the team functioning at the same high levels as Thomas Partey.

Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new deal.

Arsenal has ended the window better than we started.

‘’ if we don’t win league from here it’s a failure, regardless‘’

You couldn’t make it up

Matt

G

What couldn’t you make up??

Dissenter

We are still in the driving seat.
We have two home games; win them and will still be five points ahead of city.

Johnno

Matt. Get off this forum and go do your geography homework. Adults are talking.

G

You couldn’t make it up… meaning the shit people come out with

Matt

Johnny

You’re a massive prick! That is all I can say about you really.

Matt

Do you think fans from any other top club would be saying top four is the real goal from the position we are in? Are we a bunch of cuck’s or what!?

Matt

Johnny that question was rhetorical for you, clearly the answer is yes.

Leftside

We have to go for the title from this point

Veira

This team has clearly been overachieving this season. It needs all its parts to function to continue to achieve, this never happens in football, never mind in the Premier League. We have to be realistic and lower our expectations. This is no one’s fault and hopefully next year we fix our weaknesses and hope for more, if this happens this year even better.

Matt

Leftside

Careful with that sort of talk. We are here for top four don’t you know.

Johnno

what a witty and educated response Matt. Your mum must be so proud. But she might not be happy with your potty mouth. Btw. My mate isn’t Johnny. It’s Johnno. I am not going to engage you further. Football is 90% MK eyvthese days and this squad was assembled for a fraction of uniteds and city. Simple. We can debate whether the club should be more ambitious. But they never have been. Which the adults would know. And one has to eventually make peace with that and enjoy the good moments at the top. Or move on to another club… Read more »

Johnno

That should read 90% money. Bloody phone

Habesha Gooner

We are going to win the title. This Everton bump will mean nothing. We have been moving like a steam train for a while now. But today we hit a speed bump. We will start again too. We need to respond very quickly with a win vs Brentford too.

G

Left side.. do you not think the players are not wanting or going for the title.. we had a bad game.. it happens, it happened to city more then once this season

Matt

Johnny

This is the problem with posters like you on here. You insult me and then when I insult you back it’s me who is out of order! Get a grip and stop being such a pussy. I have no interest in interacting with you either. I pray to god the team don’t share your same attitude. You can tell you have never played competitive sport at any level. That being said, I am not here to make enemies so you ignore me and I will afford you the same courtesy

Samesong

It’s really not about lowering expectations at this point. We are were we are because we have been the best team in the PL. Overachieving? Maybe. But you don’t choose a title race you are in it.

That’s why I said before the title isn’t won playing city twice. It’s those teams that are fighting for their lives and teams that frustrate the hell out of you. We just can’t expect to beat every team. After a time teams will start to work us out. So we have to be prepared.

Loyika

Would be sad if we don’t push for the league this season when all the cards are in our hands…Chelsea and Pool are having a mare, Spurs and United are hit and miss, while Citeh are not at the purring best this season and once UCL picks up might be distracted and put all their eggs in that basket….We might not get a better chance to be in this position again for a while. The pain of losing out on the Top 4 last season should be enough motivation for the Lads to leave all on the field to capitalise… Read more »

I think that branding the season as a failure is too extreme if we fail to win the title.

It would be incredibly disappointing from such an advantageous position at the halfway mark but as long as compete until the bitter end I think it would be easier to make peace with falling slightly short.

Having said that if we finish below Utd then I would consider that failure for sure.

WengerEagle

I still believe that we will win the title myself.

LoveSausage

Let’s hope this is a wakeup call for the team. When we play our game, we have enough in the system to beat anyone. Today was uninspired and lazy from the whole team. Martinelli, White, Ode, and Xhaka were particularly awful. But win the next two games and we’re back on track.

Samesong

Brentford is such an important game for momentum. Lose that and then we will start to question ourselves. Win and we go into the city game with massive confidence.

Johnno

Oh Matt. Okay I will bite. I don’t want to fight with you and you’re right. I did insult you first. So I apologize for that. Of course the players don’t share my attitude. They are professional athletes that have ambitions and hate losing. It’s also not an attitude that I had when I played semi professionally. It’s also not an attitude that I had when I played regional schools rugby. And it’s also not an attitude that I had when I coached a football team to be ranked number 1 in its county. But it is a reluctant but… Read more »

The day has not gone to badly against us-in the grand scheme of things: 5 points above City-same number of games played, 8 points above Utd with a game in hand, 10 points above Newcastle with a game in hand, 14 points above Spuds with a game in hand, Admittedly a poor performance and 2 losses in a row Hopefully Arteta will review the tape and discuss it with certain players that underperformed and we will see a reinvigorated Arsenal, especially as physical Brentford are next. If not we will fall by the wayside and G.Nville’s awful prediction will come true… Read more »

Not just a win against Brentford
A professional controlled victory is what the doctor ordered

Matt B

Win or lose, it’s very much the same in here, not sure what the attraction is

Topside Northbank

Well below par today worst game of the season no doubt in most eye’s Leeds away imo we got lucky today it went the other way.

All teams will have these games, City drew at home to Everton….all teams will drop points.

So 5 pts ahead we have played 9 home 11 away City 11 home 9 away, title races are rarely without a surprise or two big week or so ahead home to Brentford and City.

No one here would of called us being in this position in August, disappointing day but lets see how we respond,

Matt B

Matt, btw, you really are the pits — revelling in our failure and dissing our success, you are a bellend

Matt B

And all the others like you, you know who you are. You come alive when we lose

MidwestGun

First game since WC break , I thought we missed Jesus, hugely. We needed to match their intensity and try to create more 1v1 take- ons around the box. And Jesus is always on … 11. He doesn’t do low intensity.

Dyche said they were going to play it like it was a Cup final and they did.
Anyhow, we move on. Didn’t think we would win every match… just disappointed to lose to a side who struggles to score goals.

Matt

Matt B

Show we where I was revealing in our failure you absolute melt? You’re an absolute cretin of a poster and 99% of your posts are telling other people how they should feel or think. Do one you absolute prick

Matt

The abuse you get for daring to say that our goal should be winning the league when we are 5 points clear. And I get accused of not being a fan? Honestly

Leftside

G
Sometimes I think that some of you just ramble on and attach my name to it. Johnno came with a meek statement and I simply said that we should go for the title. We are good enough to do so, and I still think we will do it.

Title winning teams do drop points in seasons, what is essential is how we respond.

Matt B

Matt: Hahaaaaaaa

Matt B

Matt: You’ve been crapping yourself for years, when we were crap and now when we’re good, take up netball or tiddlywinks

Hitman

We got bullied. The old Arsenal. Preventable with decent midfield signings. But Edu and Tets inexcusably failed in the last few TW to address this weakness.
This underwhelming TW has negatively impacted the team hence today’s performance.
Other teams will now follow Everton tactics. Seen this movie before.

TitsMcGee

Don’t know if it’ll be a disaster but losing the league title would be a massive disappointment especially since we had an 8 point lead in January.Chelsea, Liverpool are having disastrous seasons. UTD are under a new manager. Spurs are sputtering. Newcastle is still building. If we can’t win it this season might be a while before we find ourselves in this position again.

Nigel Tufnel

Matt B wins.
Confronts the horrible Matt.

Nigel Tufnel

Mcgee..

5-8 points with 19 or so games to go is nothing.

We need to be more realistic about things. Don’t let the media fool you into thinking we’re running away with the league.

We’re in a good position to fight for it. That’s all.

Un

What have I missed? Arsenal lost? Le grove in meltdown
Comments section going off
Marko is the only one talking any sense? Wtf

Matt

Nigel defends Matt B. Says a whole lot about the pair of you. Believe me, Le Grove was a much better place before you muppets came along. I’m amazed how many people even entertain you Nigel considering how you came on here swinging. I personally thought you were a Pedro alter ago to stir up controversy you were that much of a twat. I guess that’s the best insult I can pay you if you are indeed an actual real life person.

Matt B, you’re not even worth a comment.

Samir

Personally don’t think we’re going to win it, but I haven’t thought we would all season.

I’d be happy with a top 3 finish. Man City and United are problems.

Samuel

Honestly Everton deserved to win by 2-3 goal margin. We did not do what we were supposed to do. Looking forward to the bounce back run from the boys like the one we put together after Old Trafford.

MidwestGun

Un? Marko doesn’t have a comment on this page? have you been drinking again? Not even that much of a meltdown.. Just 2 matt’s calling each other names.

MidwestGun

Currently, How I feel about it, Anything other than second place or higher would be disappointing at this point. No shame in losing out to City…..considering their recent resume of winning the League. However, I don’t think we will. They would have to go on a longish winning streak and we play them twice. So a long ways to go in that regard.

Finishing below United, Newcastle or Spuds would make me angry… not gonna lie. Detest all of them and what they stand for.

Spurs have an outside chance of making top 4
They will star their season tomorrow against city

englandsbest

I guess this was bound to happen sooner or later – even the Invincibles had poor games and lucky results.- but EVERTON!!!? Well, yes, Everton. Decent enough players bowed down by uninspired management, given a sudden boost, another chance by an intrepid manager. Arsenal play beautiful football, a joy to watch, but it only works if played at dazzling speed. And – as Arteta said – Dyche’s answer was to slow the game down, play the ball long, waste time. Okay, Spurs v Man C – who do we want to win? Or do we prefer a draw./I think many… Read more »

So a man city victory would please you most …not sure i can get my head around that ..

Pity that xhaka and Martinelli were not at the races today , xhaka had a rare off day with his distribution. The space going forward was all on our left side in the first half and unfortunately we wasted too many opportunities by poor decision making and an inability to commit the full back.. As per usual it’s the fringe players that receive the lions share of the criticism, unfairly i would say . Jorginho and trossard were brought on( a little prematurely i thought) and we immediately conceded from a deep corner, something that was easily predictable as all… Read more »

“”Pity that xhaka and Martinelli were not at the races today””

There are signs of most of our players approaching or being in the redzone. They lack intensity.

Useroz

Agreed our play lacked intensity and the usual crispiness, fluidity etc but not sure thats primarily caused by key players approaching red zone, whatever its definition. Other than Partey who got hurt, the 6 changes and subs, in the City game all ofvthem had one good week to rest up and recuperate. While watching, noticed our play had more quirks than usual, like Saliba misplaced short passes (thats not him), Partey had similar , the weight of short passing not right. Was it the pitch? Not srinkled before game? Saka and Martinelli got doubled up all game, hasn’tgot to the… Read more »

Useroz

Must also say, Zinchenko held onto the ball a tad longer and I’d have thought Martinelli had space to run into, before being doubled up… so our MF (incl Zinchenko ) got to realise when playing thru the middle hasn’t worked and needed to change tact quickly/often. Other than the 5 mins or so before the first subs, and after the 80+mins our play looked labored
