ALL-STAR GAME? A FURIOUS ‘MAYBE’

by .

Graham Potter didn’t win his first game at Chelsea.

Is he a failure? Yes.

Is his career in trouble? Yes.

Welcome to Chelsea, sir. I give you 10 games.

What else happened in the Champions League this evening?

Manchester City rocking John Stones at right back. The master learning from the student? I think so. Inappropriate behavior from Pep G imo.

What else has been going on?

Todd B, trying to be the American owner every English owner feared! He’s suggesting that the English could learn from baseball and bring about an All-Star game for North vs South.

Reasons why this sort of carry-on is stupid:

Understand a culture before you weight in publicly with silly ideas. We don’t have a real North vs South divide, so no one would give a shit about it. The UK is broken into regions. North is anything above Watford to Londoners. Brighton people think London is up North. The Midlands lays claim to a region. The Welsh wouldn’t consider themselves part of either pole. East vs West has a cultural meaning in the states because the place is massive and settlers moved West (did some bad things etc).

Understand the context of the fan environment. The wounds are still fresh from an American born concept of a super league was thrown at fans around Europe and the reaction was INSANELY AGGRESSIVE IN THE ‘GET FUCKED’ CORNER.

BUT…

… there is space for an All-Star game.

Imagine the top 8 leagues in Europe putting together an All-Star team and battling out for League Supremacy.

I don’t care if you are a traditionalist, I am putting my $50 to watch that entire thing.

You’d attract a young generation as well, because it’s basically FIFA Ultimate Team.

It would be outrageously talkworthy. The cash they could raise would be massive. It would be a true growth opportunity NOT to be missed.

But maybe that’s just me and I’ve spent too much time in America?

I’ll leave you with that one to discuss in the comments section, more on Arsenal tomorrow. x

Northbanker “Odegaard is playing so well even Xhaka is starting to look good playing alongside himIncredible we are even having this debate but you only need a few idiots like Sid and it never stops.” There are just some very bizarre opinions on here. I don’t for one minute believe they are honest opinions or based on what they have seen. They are just being dishonest (why?) because nobody can watch Odegaard play and say this nonsense. For the media pundits to rave about an Arsenal player like they do Odegaard, is rare, so he must be doing something right.… Read more »

Oh dear , yet another injury to add to the long list occured during training.

AFC “There are just some very bizarre opinions on here. I don’t for one minute believe they are honest opinions or based on what they have seen.” Saying Odegaard struggles away from home in certain games is neither bizarre or dishonest. Saying Odegaard struggles with producing the killer pass is neither bizarre or dishonest….an assist every 689 mins during his time at Arsenal is confirmation of that. Will also add that Odegaard’s last 14 International matches in the last year or so have produced zero assists and zero goals. Saying Odegaard rarely commits a defender by dribbling is neither bizarre… Read more »

Ode debate again.. zzzzzzz

If some can’t SEE the quality then move on ..

I expect better than this from an accountant and you are setting a bad example to your grandchildren.

Zinchenko brought ourselves another crock maybe that why Man City let him go?
Our training methods should also be challenged.

Wicked Willy

Northbanker

If we don’t distribute the money relatively evenly, we end up with a league like Spain or Germany, where the big money making clubs absolutely dominate. So from a sporting perspective it’s actually really smart to facilitate a competitive league, and from a financial one even more so, because as far as I can tell it’s the competitiveness of our league which makes the ‘product’ so globally popular.

Wicked Willy

It’s funny how there are other teams with even more acute injury situations than ours, but no one is questioning their transfer policies or training methods. I can only conclude that some of the posters on here are either thick as sh*t, or just miserable c*nts. Haven’t yet concluded which one….

CG

””’Our training methods should also be challenged.””’

Well said Spanish,

We don’t want Zinchenko turning into Tierney or ESR into Wilshere but its looking like it,

ESR got injured in the warm down AFTER the match. Its another modern day bit of nonsense.

The Warm Down!

Arteta needs to work smarter not harder and so do the players.

Emiratesstroller

Wicked Willy

People have short memories. Arsenal under Arsene Wenger used to produce a lot of injury prone players and his training regime was by all accounts far more liberal than that of Arteta.

The reality is that the modern professional footballer/ athlete undergoes a far more rigorous
training and fitness regime than his predecessors. The game is far more demanding in fitness and athleticism than it was perhaps 15-20 years ago.

You missed the other options off your list.

All Start game is nonsense.

You need such a thing when you are struggling for money or viewship. English Premier League is the richest and most watched in the world. They dont need either.

Everything which goes to America becomes extremely commercial and ends up hitting the pockets of actual fans. Football teams used to have a heritage and history to the people supporting the teams. Then it became commercial and now soon with American influence it will become a sport by the Elite, for the Elite.

Emiratesstroller “The reality is that the modern professional footballer/ athlete undergoes a far more rigorous training and fitness regime than his predecessors. The Premier League is an intense league where every game is a physical battle. It’s like no other league. Players fitness and health is monitored and measured by professional fitness specialists at the clubs. They have stretching and warm down sessions, ice baths to get rid of the lactic acid and a whole raft… Read more »

Ashwin Gunner Well said mate. America is the perfect template of how to do sport wrong. No relegation or promotion and an obsession on constant advertising breaks. zzzzzzzzz. Quite the thing to have an arrogant American billionaire coming here telling us we need to be more like America and make it all about generating even more money, knowing we’re all going to be fleeced. Bit like Lewis Hamilton and his environmental virtue signalling when he drives for Mercedes and flies all over the world in his private jet. They should all just fuck off and leave us alone. Judging Odegaard at this stage of the season is weird.
He has made a good start, as has the team (not a co-incidence) but the time for judgement is May. In the meantime we have a very good player there who needs support and encouragement so that he has the confidence to kick on and keep delivering.

izzo

Oh would you look at that. We’re after Mudryk in January! Fantastic news!

“Massive congratulations to Mikel Arteta and his staff, after he was named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for August! We won all five of our August fixtures, scoring 13 goals and conceding only four in the process. Our manager lead us to victory against Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham, and Aston Villa, finishing the month top of the table. Mikel is our second manager to win his opening five games of a Premier League season. Arsene Wenger achieved this record in two successive seasons during our Invincibles era of 2003/04. Do we really know that Sid? Or is that just another Siddistic comment? Those who have done exactly that, do we know they haven’t had numerous foot and spine problems besetting them in middle age or earlier?

I doubt we do

By the way, I have no grandchildren !

Rich

Arsenal had the 3rd least amount of recorded days missed through injuries last season in the PL.

Either we’re extremely lucky, or however bad we are at managing the fitness of our players, there was 17 clubs that were worse.

Where I’d apply some blame is rushing back Partey against Spurs in 2020, because he’s had the same muscular issues ever since.

Tomiyasu against Liverpool in January, when he clearly wasn’t fit to be playing, and has been out most of the calendar year as a result.

I expect Martinelli and Jesus to score a dozen league goals between themselves from this Sunday to the World Cup break, as they try to shame Tite [Brazilian manager].

I’m hoping for an explosive reaction from the duo as they try to earn their places.

Their exclusion from the Brazilian squad will work in our favor.

Great link on ESR Rich — thank you. If you like football, you gotta love the ESR

dSidstathopoulos

The Boeng 737 max was designed by ‘experts’

@Northbanker, Gebrsellasie, Kipchoge Keino, Hicham el gouruj and many more do not have numerous foot and spine injuries.
Overweight couch potatoes with beer/take out bellies are the ones that get that.

jwl

Maybe training ground injuries are due to Shad leaving and new people have to learn what each player can handle. Presumably, new people will learn to fine tune their methods.

Arsenal fitness coach Shad Forsythe has joined Borussia Dortmund after leaving the Emirates. The 49-year-old worked for the Gunners for eight years as the club’s Head of Performance.

Absolutely.

I feel sorry for him with the injuries he’s been getting. I read somewhere that some of these had been linked to him growing late but whatever the reason, a fit Emile is a quality addition to the squad. We are collecting some impressive technical talent and the future loos bright.

Sid and CG

I hope your dislike for medical experts, or should I say all experts, doesn’t come back to haunt you. Making a decision to have a vasectomy or prostrate operation undertaken by Dave the boiler man wouldn’t be a smart move. However, it would certainly be very funny for the rest of us on here that have to read the bollocks you both invent.

Emiratesstroller

Sid

Are you seriously making a comparison between middle and long distance runners who live
at altitude and are running many miles from an early age to a footballer who is dependent
on sprinting and their twitch muscles?

Most power based athletes including footballers have an entirely different training regime.
Sprinters are just as injury prone as footballers.

Markymark

“Massive congratulations to Mikel Arteta and his staff, after he was named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for August!

They’ll be triggered and angry , gammon faced , Incel singletons banging their garden shed doors over that announcement. Many of whom frequent this site and post frequently.

Well done Arteta!

Rich

Smith Rowe was our standout player up until December last season, and probably our best player throughout the whole of 2021.

It’s a real shame for him that injuries have stalled his progress this year, because he looked a guarantee to be on the plane to Qatar.

It’s not too late for him, there’s a lot of football in the 6 weeks after the international break, but he’s going to have to find consistent fitness, because there’s certainly going to be enough minutes to go around.

dSidstathopoulos

“””Making a decision to have a vasectomy or prostrate operation undertaken by Dave the boiler man”””

How an adult man of good mind is convinced into mutilating his body is beyond me, but thats for another day.

@Estroller, Not all experts are wrong the point is maybe we have mediocre ‘experts’ at Arsenal. The point about marathon runners was in response to ‘Dave the boiler’

Brentford are in good form but defensively they are poor. We need to out score them. Not too confident of a clean sheet this weekend

Rich

We need to be carful at Brentford, the 2 games they won this season battering United + Leeds, they did it with 31% + 33% possession. They lost to away to Fulham with 57% of the ball. Drew at home with a poor Everton side with 58% possession Got a good point at Palace with 52% possession. I enjoy watching them when they’re on, with the players they have, they’re certainly better at inviting teams onto them, then exploiting the space left in behind. We’ll likely go there and look to dominate the ball, we can get at them, but… Read more »

Playerys to look out for Toney and Wissa if he comes on. Think this game is hard to call in terms of result. Brentford seem to like playing the big teams at home with no fear.

As far as I am concerned the fewer players we have going to the world cup the better. Shame for the players but better for us if they stay here and avoid those conditions.

Tony…. good analysis. “As Marko says Ode’s work rate is excellent, and we have had no real midfield to speak of since last January. His vision can be uncanny at times and he always leaves everything on the pitch where you’ll see the pain etched on his face when he is playing below par for him.His free role is more to do with our lightweight midfield; trying to put out fires, and then linking up play – occasionally finding the net & assist. Mikel Arteta on Tomiyasu’s dexterity and ability to play multiple positions

GD4

You’ve gotta love how the simple
“I’m Gonna Prove I Love Arsenal More Than You Crowd”
get all hot and bothered over Pierre … while he remains calm and above the fray, while prolly laughing his ass off.

While I might not agree with many of his positions, the sheer bile and vitriol shown his way just because he has opinion on football that differs is ridiculous … all this internet bluster and flexing is so funny to read and just shake your head at

Wicked Willy

GD4 I rather suspect it’s because Pierre continually disses certain members of our squad. His favourite target is the guy who was voted our second best player last season, and who just got nominated for player of the month. Continually mugging off one of your best players is not fandom, it is odious self indulgence. The shame of it is, I feel affinity with his love of elegance, but when it is artificially and selectively overlayed onto a player who plays his heart out every week, and who is weaving the entire final third together, I find it sickening.
