INTERNATIONAL BREAK REST FOR 3 KEY PLAYERS

by .

Well GOOD mourning to you all.

You are… mourning, right?

What? You aren’t? But the football was cancelled SPECIFICALLY so you could be sad and think about death things?

Oh… you’re mourning while watching the rugby, cricket and the horses?

You’re seeing the fans in attendance celebrate the life of the Queen and get viral moments all over the internet?

… and you’re wondering why football blew the opp to be the focal point of celebration?

Yeah, me too… what a fucking weird decision to cancel.

Let’s make hay though.

Thomas Partey can be put back into his cryogenic cotton wool chambers for safekeeping.

Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale and inject placenta juice into those fragile hamstrings.

The players can have the weekend off and watch the ruggers.

We can make it work for us.

My irritation is that Spurs had an away game at City after a Champions League game. They get all the luck, that game will probably pop back when they’ve had loads of rest and City have 15 injuries.

Are we going to talk about Spurs consistently dropping terrible performances and getting the wins? You really think they’ll be ok without Harry Kane?

Back to Arsenal…

Still, our next game is against PSV at home, followed by an away game at Brentford. I am no fitness expert, but I suspect the players might be a little underloaded if they don’t get any minutes between now and the Brentford game, so my guess is we might see key names given at least 30 minutes to sharpen them before that massive game.

All we have to do is win that Brentford game and we head into the International break top of the league.

That would be MEGA.

It’s funny that we’re all a little bit whingy despite:

  • Winning 7 from 6 games
  • Doing that with a Thomas Partey injury
  • We’ve scored the 4th most goals
  • We’ve have had the 2nd most attempts at goal
  • We’ve had the 4th most attempts on target
  • We’re number 1 for dribbles per game
  • We’re the most fouled team in the league (Spurs and United the least fouled weirdly)
  • We concede the 2nd least attempts per game, behind City
  • We’re top of the league with the youngest Premier League centre-back, a make-shift right back, and a brand new left-back

That’s a lot of good to be grumbling.

Are there concerns that might have a bit of validity?

We’re conceding silly goals that are less about the system and more about the individual.

We’re doing a lot more in the attacking third, but really, we should be dishing out more batterings. We aren’t as sharp as we should be. Let’s hope that changes as the team gels and get more confident together as the season progresses.

Some bad news that is good… our 3 Gabriel’s have all been snubbed for the Brazil squad that takes on Ghana and Tunisia. I want to be bothered, but having three key names rested over those two weeks is pretty big for us. They won’t be getting exhausted, played on shit pitches, or risked against players that might chop them down.

I suspect at least two of the three will make the World Cup, but Martinelli might struggle this time around. Competition in those attacking positions is outrageous. But, if he wants to change his chances, the best thing to do would be to score 4 goals in every Arsenal game until the end of this phase of the season.

Emile Smith Rowe is back on the bike and SHOULD return fast. My worry with him is that he always seems to be in discomfort. It must be VERY frustrating for him. Hopefully, he can shake that off. I’ll say one thing to him… stay. off. the. Nandos.

Right, quick bit of advice, the best – and I mean THE best way to get over the lack of football today is to put a few pennies down on The Arsenal Opinion Patreon and binge listen. We talk about Royalty, we discuss the culture of meme-ing death, we talk about the new Brazilian wunderkind, and we chat about some of the negatives in our season. Come join the party, our podcast is now consistently a top 3 Arsenal podcast globally, why not pay for some of the special sauce no one else is getting? xxx

Sid- did you find any sunshine where the sun doesn’t shine?

So refreshing, i recommend you try it

Oh look, another Arsenal prodigy injured to fuck. Emile is the new Jack. Obviously something wrong with the training and or, picking the type of man who gets injured playing online games.

No muscle in the body or mind. Weak.

Mozi

Hopefully a few weeks off during the world cup will get emile back on track

Markymark

UTD and Liverpool supporters were likely to disrupt the silence or whatever ceremony was due to take place . Premier league and FA didn’t want the embarrassment so games called off instead

I mourned by coaching my son’s soccer team this morning, and now I’m watching college football. It’s been tough, however I’m putting on a brave face.

Oh look another fucking moron who thinks he understands the finer points of life from behind 10 empty pint glasses.
Absolutely pathetic to come on here and speak that kind of ill will about one of the most talented academy graduates we have.
As someone whose sporting career ended in his teens due to overwhelming and preventable injuries, this kind of deeply hateful self absorbed ignorance makes me sick

The major concern must be the conversion rate, the rest is clicking smoothly. I hope Arteta finds the answer. The need is for someone upfront who does not miss the goals that should be scored. Someone like Mitrovic. Nothing spectacular, simply clinical. I believe the closest we have to that is Eddie not Gab J. Arteta should try the both of them together. It may mean leaving Saka or Gab M on the bench – but either would make a huge impact as a sub.

Mr Serge

Groovy and wanks must have tracking to get to post first all the time
Not that trophy means anything but to a handle of dweebs.

Totally agree some people talk absolute cock. Trolling is an art form on here

Winning 7 from 6 games

Well rhis is reaching a new level of spinning there I see Pedro. 😉

I really hope ESR is back with us ASAP. It is looking a bit Wilshere-y for ESR and I really would not like to see a very talented player yet again wasted by no fault of his own.

Chris

I suspect the worries that drunken PL fans would disrupt the minutes silence and tributes etc is somewhat near the truth.

You only have to go to games or see on the gam channels after and indeed before matches to see the amount of drunken idiots with an IQ of about 85 spitting their vitriol.

Every club has these quarterwits and ultimately it’s probably the safest decision the PL took and had a big influence in postponing this weekends games.

Chris

I selfishly hope our three Brazilian stars are not selected for the WC.

They get the rest, and chips on their shoulders. Big motivation to prove the national coach wrong while smashing it for us.

Habesha Gooner

Man it is boring without football. I tries watching PSG, Barcelona and the Lepzig-Dortmund games. It is much different. The laliga games are entertaining to watch because of the technical quality. But any of these leagues don’t have the aggression and the speed of football that is in the Premier league. It is a good thing that we get to have some rest for the next batch of games. And I don’t think the Brentford game is happening either though Pedro. I am kind of glad that the three Brazillians aren’t going to the international break. There is no way… Read more »

Funeral is now a bank holiday Monday so hopefully the weekend matches will go ahead next week

Markymark

Chris you are right of course but I suspect you wouldn’t get any anti monarchy bias at WHU , Millwall , Chelsea , Spuds, Arsenal might get an odd old school Marxist or some colonial grudge but majority would be respectful.
Leicester, Wolves etc no issue at all.
UTD and Liverpool supporters regularly whistle through the National Anthem. I’m not sure if it’s a sort of up yours to the establishment seen as being London and Home Counties or it reflects a Catholic Irish rebel thing ? Maybe someone may know the answer

Foxy

Groin injuries can lead to a muscle imbalance that can then cause ongoing strain on one or more of the inner thigh or hip muscle group, this could be the Problem with ESR..

TheLegendaryDB10

Silly me. I just realised you are I including the EL game to. I was just looking at the PL games. 👍🏻 Sorry Pedro. We are doing excellently well so far. It will be interesting to see how far we can go with this style and intensity. It really can work if done well. I have a feeling that if we do get Danilo in January TW this could be a bit if a game changing piece of the puzzle for the team. Partey would be perfect to help close off games and provide stability when the team needs it.… Read more »

Apparently balogun has 5 goals already for Reims despite them not doing well and he’s third top scorer in Ligue Un behind only neymar and mbappe so far

Nice.

will be watching the Ferrari redemption arc instead today

The conversion rate is a reflection of the age profile of the attack, nothing more, nothing less. As the team matures, so the conversion rate will go up. Obviously getting a killer winger and maybe bringing in Nkunku as left 8 will give us the added ‘firepower’ Arteta is in record as saying we need.

Habesha Gooner

Any one watch PSG vs Brest yesterday out of boredom?

“Finished” Messi was pulling off passes that no playmaker bar may be a few can make. Even at his age the IQ in his game still astounds me. The debate in him being the GOAT still shocks me to be honest. We will never see another player like him.

Wicked Willy

Interestingly, Orbinho reporting the following:

“Granit Xhaka has created more chances for his team-mates than any other player in the Arsenal squad this season – 16, with 15 coming from open play.“

Who would have ever guessed there was a creative powerhouse in there! I’m so pleasantly surprised by what a capable #8 he is proving to be. Would still initiate an upgrade next summer, but would be more than happy for him to be our rotation option until Patino is fully ready to take over.

dSidstathopoulos

ESR needs to work on his core, kids from Croydon lack activities to strengthen their core as the grow.

dSidstathopoulos

Xhakalson has been on the field longer than any other midfielder, naturally he will create more chances, a better stat would be chances created per 90 mins compared to other midfielders.

Don’t know how we’ve managed to do that but the results are better than I realised 😂

“Granit Xhaka has created more chances for his team-mates than any other player in the Arsenal squad this season – 16, with 15 coming from open play.“

Here’s one to contemplate

Jordan pickford has more assists than our playmaker Martin Odegaard this season, which is a worrying stat considering we have played teams from the lower regions of the table.

Muppetman

It’s Sunday Pierre. Have a day off….

Habesha Gooner

Pierre again 😂😂😂 FFS. Odegaard has 3 goals too. Did you mention that? He basically run some of the games for us. But he didn’t assist 😂😂😂 FFS.

Raulishuss

Here’s one to contemplate

Granite xhaka has scored more, created more chances, covered more distance, won more duels and has more assists than christian Erikson this season.

Leedsgunner

We have to stop looking for the perfect goal and have a shot. So far I’ve noticed that we dominate possession in the opposition third but our finishing lets us down because we make one to many passes.

Having said that we do have plenty to be happy about.

Well done also for convincing Tite not to call up the three Gabriels. Enjoy the rest lads!

Raulishuss

Here’s another one to contemplate

Saliba has made more tackles and has more goal and assists than willock 🤣🤣🤣

Leedsgunner

*too many

dSidstathopoulos

Saliba 446 and Christian Ericsen 384 have more touches than Xhakalson 380

Habesha Gooner

Raulishuss
😂😂😂 you got Pierre with his own logic. Fantastic 😂

Wicked Willy

I think a huge win – never mind against which team – will kickstart the conversion rate. Five-nil, something like that. A confidence-booster – as you rightly say, for young players.

dSidstathopoulos

The last one. Saliba and Magalhaes each have more passes than Xhakalson and Odegaard

G

Honestly mate give it up..

Batistuta

What a goal from Rodrygo

Batistuta

Impressive how Real Madrid have basically rebuilt their squad with some of the best youngsters around

Pedro

Pierre,

Odegaard has more goals than Mo Salah, not sure you should be too worried about Martin Odegaard.

Pedro

Sid, give us the context as to why you think it’s a problem that Saliba and CE have more touches?

Positive pete

Must say there’s a lot of contemplation going on today. While we’re at it.Here’s one to contemplate 🤔 There’s a v.good chance next wk ends Brentford fixture is likely to go ahead as the boys on blue don’t see it clashing with the following days funeral arrangements plus its a Bank holiday .Well there’s a relief.

Nigel Tufnel

Pos Pete,
It’s a good set up to go ahead next weekend, because it gives time to plan tributes to the Queen at the games all up and down the country, with the funeral to come the following day. A good lead in. One week off out of respect seems fair enough without wrecking the seasons fixtures.

Nigel Tufnel

Pierre,

Raul, Habesha, and G, each embarrassed you, which I couldn’t have done better.

You deserve that for spewing out hate against our Captain. There’s never a reason for what you do to him and Arteta, but it was really unnecessary today.

That was the equivalent of a drive-by with your negative comment. The guys above hit back though.

The hatred runs deep in you. You should seriously think about your motivation against Arteta and Ødegaard.

Nigel Tufnel

Willy,

I love the Xhaka stat… I’ve been meaning to mention how much I enjoy Xhakas hard, low crosses into the box… he puts real power behind those.

We will get own goals, keeper spills from these ..(which has already happened for 1 goal at least, so far).

Those are not even counted in those stats you gave for Granit.

I much prefer his crossing to the Tierney wasted high crosses.

Johng

Tierney would be useful with a plan b tall (good in the air) beast of a striker but we will have to fill other positions before adding another striker

Johng

Genuine question, did Tierney play with a big striker at Celtic

alexanderhenry

Pedro

We do lack a proven out and out goal scorer, but we have Nketia who might become one this season if he’s given the minutes.

Liking the new artwork btw.

Johng

That’s probably why we pursued Vlahovic so hard last season, maybe we missed a trick and should of chased Mitrovitch whilst Fulham were in the championship, he’s started like a train this season

dSidstathopoulos

“””PedroSeptember 11, 2022 15:22:34
Sid, give us the context as to why you think it’s a problem that Saliba and CE have more touches?”””

The manager doesnt trust Xhakalson with the ball.

dSidstathopoulos

Trusted with the keys, the stats suggest Not with the ball.

Pierre

Pedro “Odegaard has more goals than Mo Salah, not sure you should be too worried about Martin Odegaard.” Who said I’m worried, he’s had a couple of very good games this season , good to see him getting in goalscoring positions and putting a few away. Just a weird anomaly that someone of Odegaard’s class and vision , who with the arrival of Jesus and the form of Martinelli, hasn’t managed to register an assist despite Arsenal playing teams from the lower regions of the league.. I’m sure we were told that we would see his assists go through the… Read more »

Nigel Tufnel

Ødegaard might be our most influential player, but the Ozil/Willock fetishist just can’t give credit.

Everyone sees the twisted bias, so he has no credibility on the captain or the manager.

Seems desperate to convince himself with condescending reviews of Ødegaard.

Nobody is buying it, as you can see from all of the responses. Would be wiser to let it go.
