BILL SALIBA SHOW DENNIS BERGKAMP FANGS AS ARSENAL GO TOP!

by .

Arsenal is top of the league. Two clean sheets. 9 goals scored. Most shots in the league. Most touches in the opposition box. Those are the hard facts, how about the soft ones?

The football is sensational. Scintillating. Fast. Intense. Precise. An absolute fucking JOY to watch.

This time last year people were mocking ‘trust the process’ and poking fun at the term ‘special sauce.’ I’m not seeing much now because we are all believers. This hope train we’re on isn’t theory, nor a lecture on JDP or a ‘how you build a club back to greatness with strategy and vision’ blog post… it’s the real deal.

Fans believe it as well. This time last year, after three losses and an accusation that the away fans were cheering Manchester City goals, everyone decided, fuck it, let’s support this project as hard as we can until it is no more. To put a little more detail on why that was so important, this time last year I was told Arteta was extremely worried about the home fans because a chunk of the squad didn’t like playing in front of them. We were toxic, we knew it as well, it was grim online, grim in the stadium, but we rallied. The basic thinking Arteta had was that if the home fans supported young players when they were in bad moments, the development of these players would truncate. It’s easy to support a kid when they are crushing it, it takes a special group of people to be there in moments of weakness… but, we were there for it all last season.

Yesterday felt like the crowning glory of that idea coming to life. Last week, Bill Saliba scored an own goal. The fans rallied instead of groaning. Arteta stated that was why he recovered so fast. Yesterday, the away fans invented a new song for him, and the player popped up for an absolutely spectacular Dennis Bergkamp like goal with his weaker foot. The song was so good the players were singing it in the dressing room after.

You think a player getting that sort of love at 21 years old is signing a new deal anywhere other than Arsenal? Of course not. Stay at the club you supported as a kid where the fans love you. Matt stated on the podcast that he’s not seen an impact like that since Sol Campbell joined from Spurs. Sol was an experienced captain and an seasoned international at that point. Saliba is still 21 years old!

Talking of young players, how is Saka still only 20 years old? He was the second youngest Arsenal player to get to 100 Premier League appearances behind Cesc. He had a quiet game, he’s a slow starter generally, but my word what an achievement. Hopefully, he’ll sign a new deal and start banging in the goals VERY soon.

You know what else helped Arsenal? Elevating the squad with absolutely top, top players. Zinchenko and Gabi J were outrageous again yesterday. Someone made a really interesting point to me a few months ago… it’s a bit of a problem if your best player is your defensive midfielder. That was basically Thomas Partey last season in terms of terminal importance to our success. Rodri getting injured doesn’t finish City. It finished us last season. I’m not sure that’ll happen this season. Back to the point, who can really say who is our best player right now? The choices are deep. The question is far more subjective. That is in part to some players stepping up (Martinelli / Benny Blanco / Bill Saliba), some new players showing their talent right away (Zinchenko / Gabi J), with some classics having a bit of competition (Odegaard / Saka / Partey). I don’t care if you hate the list, that’s the point, there’s no definitive answer.

An example of new skills elevating our game: Our first goal came after Ben White looped a high ball into Gabi J, the Brazilian brought the ball down and turned at Bournemouth, he ran at them, showed of his tight control and power, slipped Martinelli in, he forced a save, Odegaard was sharp with the finish. You think Lacazette is delivering any of those elements last season? You think peak Auba could do that? No chance. That is what top-level talent offers you.

The next goal on 11 minutes came after Ben White drove forward, picked up and overlap with Saka, found Jesus in the box who controlled the ball but didn’t account for Odegaard eating his lunch with a quick curling shot across goal. Ben White involved in two goals? If he loves it at right back, are you changing him?

There was a delicious Odegaard / Jesus disallowed goal that was adjudged offside by a whisker. If you need to go 10x magnification on a goal, just let the attacking team have it, it’s so annoying Jesus didn’t exit the day with a goal, but there you go at least he finished it.

The beautiful thing about the game is I still felt there were improvements that could be made. We’re still not totally secure when we go a couple of goals up. Aaron flapped at a few crosses and made a bit of a fuss when someone spooked him when he was looking for a quick drop kick. There were moments when we let average players get 6-7 yards out in our box. I’d love us to have a bit more calmness when we’re in good positions, but again, you have to accept that we’ll have the youngest starting 11 in the Premier League this weekend, and the calmness comes from experiencing tough moments.

… and that is a key point to remember. It is not going to be like this every game. Bumps will come, brace for them, it’s part of growing a team to greatness, unfortunately.

I took some flack from the Ramsdalians after critiquing the keeper post-Leicester. Like I thought, the player echoed my take, and said he has some form issues to address. The problem with Ramsdale is he set such a ridiculous standard last season, it’s hard for us to see his form now and not expect better. He’s a top competitor, he’s been through bad moments before, no doubt he’ll get on top of it

Let’s also give flowers to Granit Xhaka. Zinchenko’s ability to play like a top-level midfielder has freed the Swiss to occupy spaces further up the pitch, and he’s absolutely thriving. He assisted Bill Saliba for his wonder goal. Overall though, he was just top level, he has been all season. All the bores saying our season would fail on him are eating humble pie with big L sprinkles.

Let’s also give credit to our Ukrainian hero, Zinchenko. He’s come in, made zero fuss, and adapted like a world-class fullback. He offers so much, power, pace, precision, character, and top-level midfielder-ing. I also LOVED this reaction to Bill Saliba’s goal.

When someone of his technical level is absolutely gushing about a centre-back, you know we have something special on our hands. Bill was immense. 100% pass completion. Outrageous.

The player looks mature beyond his 21 years, he’s extremely alert, he’s not a show-off, and he looks level-headed in the extreme. What a talent we have, the hype was for real, and his adaptation to the league has been superhuman.

I don’t want to talk about other teams but I will. Did you watch what is going on at Spurs and regret not having Antonio Conte as our manager? I didn’t. We are a far more exciting offering. That lot down the road are uninteresting, they are one-dimensional, and they are totally fucked if Harry Kane gets an injury.

The good thing is the media has a very big hard-on for both Tuchel and Conte. They think the big show is those two this season. That’s how we want it. The biggest worry is that at some point, people will wake up to Arsenal and then the pressure will fall on us.

Do I have concerns?

What Arsenal lack right now is proper fear factor. Liverpool and City go away from home and most teams are already beaten. They are so good players fake injury to avoid the afternoon. Arsenal don’t elicit that sort of fear factor quite yet, teams still fancy they can get their talons into us, even when we’re a goal up. The more games we play like yesterday, the faster we’ll start getting the better of teams before a ball has been kicked. My prediction at the start of the season is we’d be really fucking horrible to play against, that has happened, we don’t have many weaknesses. If Arsenal are rolling up, you are going to chase a lot of shadows, you are going to be demoralised, you are going to be mentally on the backfoot because our system is unpredictable and strong enough to punish any type of in-game strategy… but what I wasn’t expecting so soon is that there was going to be instant retribution for mistakes. We have killers in the squad. We haven’t had that in a while.

Mikel Arteta is still chasing more though. He wants to replace Nice-bound Nico Pepe with a player that can offer Arsenal more unpredictability. Remember, that is his key thing this season, Spurs don’t have that, they just have Harry Kane and Son, we want to have multiple avenues to devastation. This winger will have goals, power, pace, control, great passing, and they will give us some killer special sauce.

Youri Tielemans was left out of the Leicester squad yesterday. They are getting desperate now. They need cash. I suspect that deal will be done if we can shift Bellerin and Ainsley before the close of the window. He really would be a top, top-quality addition. Our squad would basically be complete if we can do that. We’d be ready to compete for top 3 this season.

So to exit the conversation, this is what strategy, vision, and execution looks like when it’s melded with a bit of patience. We had the best January window in the end because we didn’t panic buy and the summer has offered us better riches at prices that represent pure value. The longterm view of Arsenal is probably better looking with us out of the Champions League this season. Don’t underestimate the impact 3 BIG games a week is going to have on Spurs this season. Arsenal can play hungry kids and good squad players on Thursdays. Spurs cannot do that. I’m not sure they have the squad depth to deal with the issues. Christian Romero is already out for 6 weeks, who’d have thunk it after Conte worked his players to the point of vomiting in preseason?! Less about Spurs, this window could be the most consequential of the last 30 years. If we head into the international break in the top 3, confidence will be flying, belief will feel very, very real… who knows where we go from there.

Also… I saw someone tweet ‘why have Arsenal got such an easy fixture list?’

Dissenter,

He was out for 10 months with a fractured kneecap. Sounds pretty serious to me.

WengerEagle

I’m with TBM. Absolutely despise Utd and would love Pool to humiliate them again tonight.

The comedy roadshow must go on! £60m for a soon to be 31 yo Casemiro. What could go wrong.

WengerEagle

Only Dissenter could think being out for the best part of a year isn’t worrisome.

Nobody is disputing Neto’s pre-injury ability which was top shelf. But the Martinelli comparison is a poor one as he cost us £6m. Neto will cost £40m plus on the other hand.

Positive pete

Would the real Sid please stand up.?

Nigel Tufnel

I understand not being an expert in foreign league players, I never claim to be. But Neto we should all have some idea about. The guy is on my prem list with Podense, Harvey Barnes, Trossard, and one or 2 others. Wenger eagle and others say he was better before a fairly big injury… What are they basing that on.? Watching him last week, his pace and driving movements look exactly as I remembered. .. I’m calling bullshit on them, based on the visuals and common sense… Wengereagle, You don’t think that Arsenal got all the info on the injury,… Read more »

I’m with Wenger eagle on that wish. There isn’t enough pain in the world that you wouldn’t wish on that club & their fans.

Tom

United getting pummeled and going into their Southampton game in a crisis mode for me.
Unless you have ambitions at overtaking Pool this season in the standings I can’t see why you would want them to drop points in this game.

GD4

Diss, Go do a before and after take on Neto and then come back to me. He was out for a while my dude and is not the same player. Winger should be secondary to top level central midfielder. I mean the best chance Bournemouth had was when the ball was passed to Xhaka and under minimal pressure the scrub coughed up the ball in our area. Imagine that scrub against high tempo Leeds? It’s no wonder in big games he is constantly a liability. We need an upgrade on him ASAP. We can’t be celebrating Chaka had a good… Read more »

Wenger eagle Sometimes, it’s not the initial injury that keeps people out for long. It’s when recovery takes more time or set backs during recovery. Pablo Neto suffered a setback during recovery. https://theathletic.com/news/wolves-winger-pedro-neto-set-to-be-out-until-at-least-february/ftZnrqG6rkEC/ Xhaka is a fast healer, he could have had the same surgery and be back in 4 months. My point is that a fracture knee cap in 2022 cannot slow down the player, not even rupture ligaments or cartilage is routine surgery, especially for top athletes because they consult with the very best surgeons. The knee cap is a sesamoid bone, if it’s healed- it’s healed. I… Read more »

Nigel

I know that you bum every decision that the club make as it gives you superior superfan status and brownie points on here for you to try and worm your way in to Pedro with. It’s pathetic but let’s look past that for a moment.

A broken kneecap keeping him out for basically a year isn’t a concern to you? Really? What are you basing your view on? Blind faith in our recruitment team? Who have never got anything wrong…

WengerEagle

How has his mobility looked since his return Dissenter? That is a genuine q by the way as I haven’t watched him, just find it hard to believe it is the same as pre-injury.

Rich

Arsenal of the past signed a player with a broken back, hopefully we’ve since wised up If we’re going to part with £40-£50 million, they’ll surely get advise off a few experts first, regarding the severity of the injury, and potential for ongoing issues. Neto is a wonderful player, he ticks every box but one: Elite talent ✅ PL proven ✅ Fluent English ✅ Versatile ✅ Fits the system ✅ Age profile ✅ Fitness ❎ KSE are trying to put Arsenal back at the pinnacle of English football, for years it felt like we were trying to get into the… Read more »

I just read the details dissenter have.

Wengereagle, of your still trying to win this one… Give up.

You’re more embarrassing yourself if we even bid on Neto.

That info from dissenter…, plus the clubs research and resources, and you’re still trying to be the all knowing authority?

Know when to admit you’re wrong.

WengerEagle

I’m not any kind of authority Nigel, you are the one obsessed with any sort of authority on an anonymous and faceless blog.

I am just concerned about his injury as it was a bad one. I like Neto as a player so hope that the club will have got this one right.

LoveSausage

It’s not even just about the physical injury. There’s the psychological aspect of it. Neto is still a young player and the discrepancy between his talent and pre-injury stats is fairly typical. I.e. he was pretty similar to, say, Martinelli last season in that he looked very good but had some work to do on the output side of things. It wouldn’t be the first time that an upward trajectory of a young player gets severely disrupted by a big injury and the player never managed to hit the same heights. We saw it happen plenty during Project Youth. It’s… Read more »

Leicester if you can believe it throwing their hat into Pepe chase. If true.Excellent.You’d expect that to be a bargaining chip for Arsenal surely with Tielemans. The pieces in the jigsaw all seem to be lining up nicely.Fingers crossed.oh & West Ham sniffing around Ainsley.Oh yeah.

WengerEagle

Exactly LoveSausage but fuck me if we’re allowed to express any doubt or have any kind of grey area in conversation with cheerleaders like Nigel patrolling this space.

WengerEagle

Habesha

Didn’t see your comment before.

Yes it is safe to say that Jesus has exceedes even the most optimistic expectations of him (and many of us were very big on him). He looks sensational.

Marko

Are we back to signing midgets? Vieira now Neto. We should be looking for robust types like Diaby.

Diaby is actually smaller than Neto

Avi

Not sure how you can be so worried about Neto when you were so neck deep into a worse player in Sancho Weagle

At least hold your horses and see how it all plays out if indeed Neto is the ‘mystery winger’ the club is apparently going for.

CG

Marko ”””I mean left to CG he’d be playing reserve football waiting for minutes in the Carling cup or waiting for the Europa to start meanwhile he’s starting and scoring consistently in top flight French football”””’ If it were left to me- Balogun would be on the bench every league fixture until the end of the season. He would be getting the last 20 minutes in most matches- keeping Jesus and Eddie fresh. Also this Europa nonsense is perfect for him to get some Arsenal goals under his belt. (Lucky Wenger never loaned out 18 year old Anelka , he… Read more »

Avi

Obviously Sid is talking absolutely tosh and hasn’t watch for a minute either Diaby or Neto.

I mean he literally has no clue what he’s talking about

WengerEagle

Avi

Bit strange that you keep bringing up Sancho. Not really sure what the relevance is but ok.

How’s the new moniker treating you? Learning to behave like a normal poster?

Marko

Yeah it’s completely fine to be cautious given the injury Neto just had. Even if I’m not one of those types to be scared of by a serious injury… more than one though yes. In saying all that Diaby is still the dream and even Yeremy Pino I would consider having the higher ceiling

Marko

Wait do people think Sancho is shit now cause United happen to be rubbish at the moment?

LoveSausage

WengerEagle,

I will say that Arteta and Edu have restored my faith in our recruitment. There was a time not too long ago when we were so shit that you could almost assume that 3 out of 4 players we bought would be duds. But I’m with you. Arguing that someone is a great signing just because Arsenal want him is a pretty pointless POV. Even the world’s greatest recruitment team will make mistakes 20-30% of the time because there’s no foolproof recruitment strategy. Anyone who’s had to hire people at work knows what I’m talking about.

Zacharse

i’m on board w today’s s game being nutso. draw seems appropriate but id like to see pool smash em

Dissenter

“Wait do people think Sancho is shit now cause United happen to be rubbish at the moment?

Same people that thought Haaland was shot because he didn’t score in the first half against the magpies

That said, Sancho has been disappointing, can’t rub everything off on United are shit.
Saka’s quality shone through when Arsenal was shit in the second Emery season,

WengerEagle

LS

Agreed, I think the club have made huge strides this summer in our signings.

Jesus and Zinchenko fit like a glove and improve us massively. Vieira will hopefully give us top drawer end product off the bench at first before he is bedded into the team.

Marquinhos looks promising and could be a Martinelli type bargain down the line.

I also appreciate the effort in trying to bring in Raphinha even if I think £60m would have been too much on an area besides CM.

And Saliba just makes us instantly better. What a player he looks.

Avi

No it isn’t strange at all because they’re both wide players but the difference here is you literally got it horribly wrong in your judgement of both talents even though myself and a couple posters here tried educating you Sancho is a cut above what a top club should need and hes level below someone like Saka but you wouldn’t have that

And wtf do you mean by a ‘normal poster’ does changing moniker now implies one is not normal? Lmao

Avi

*a cut below I mean

WengerEagle

Sancho has been disappointing Marko. But yeah some nutters writing him off as shit even though Utd are a literal dumpster fire where no player has looked good in years.

WengerEagle

It’s weird changing Monikers unless banned Avi. And then using previous comments again posters made years ago knowing I can’t say anything back because your old Monikers including all your guaranteed bollocks contributed are erased.

Educating me? Lol, do you realise how much of a wanker you sound? Pro scout Avi over here.

Avi

Diaby is still the dream and even Yeremy Pino I would consider having the higher ceiling”

Not sure you’ve earned the right also to judge who is a talent and who is not

I mean you are the same poster who had a fcking hard on for Naby Keita and said if Arsenal signed him he’d be our best midfielder since Fabregas

raptora

I see a few posters have an inferiority complex that they try to compensate by acting macho-like in a football blog to one of the best posters here. Keep up the good work, gents. We are certainly progressing as human beings, no doubt.

Marko

Sancho is literally one of the best wingers in the world. Don’t be fooled.

Avi

I mean I understand the fact you can have opinions and that’s one of the perk of being an arm chair supporter but what I can’t have is having shit opinions and clearly blinded or ignorant of what a good player should look like

WengerEagle

Avi it’s a safe space, no judgement here if you are on the verge of a breakdown.

Let it all out you savant of the game.

dSidstathopoulos

He should thank his parents for Not naming him Jad Snach because he’d be playing forBrentford.

TR7

I always want United to lose and get humiliated. Let’s hope Pool smash them again and make Penaldo grimace.

izzo

Lol how are we even talking about that tubby flaky Sancho. Best wingers in the world? You’re smoking some strong stuff. Kindly share. In a league where Saka and Martinelli have been dominant you’re still waxing lyrical about a winger the minute he left Bundesliga fell off a cliff not just ability wise but mentality wise.

dSidstathopoulos

Diaby is a robust midget, if midgets is our new target.

Emiratesstroller

I must say that I am concerned that the club are looking at Neto and willing to spend a huge
transfer fee [whatever it might be]. This player had a serious injury and played very few games last season in consequence.

Okay he might be a brilliant footballer, but I would want him to be playing a lot more games
free of injury before investing that money as a replacement for Pepe who has cost us already
£72 Million.

izzo

Sancho is exactly like Reiss Nelson. Both need to go back to Germany or find a weaker league to play in if they want to rebuild their career since they’re still wrong but so far they’ve shown they don’t have what it takes especially mentally.

izzo

*young

Nigel Tufnel

On Neto, i trust medical people, professional scouts, Arteta, Edu, etc.

I trust what I saw in him playing. Looks like before. Starting games, not doing 15-20 minute cameos.. same pace and movement.

I trust the detailed info that dissenter provided.

I don’t trust legrove medical geniuses… ……doomers and fear mongers like Wenger eagle. … All you provide is worry.

I hope you didn’t say he’s not as good as before, or that he’s lost pace or ability.
Because if you did, you’re talking out of your arse.

That would be a fact.. not an opinion.

Amazing how you’ve never applied this to our own players like xakha as an example.
It would almost appear, to the uninitiated, as though you give the benefit of the doubt to our rivals above our own. Strange fella

Not much consistency with some of you fellas is there
