ARSENAL FINALLY LEANING INTO THE DARK ARTS

by .

Well good morning to you ALL! Or afternoon. Maybe early evening? Who cares.

The Youri Tielemans deal has taken an Aaron Ramsdale-ish turn. Arsenal, is reportedly happy to wait a year for the midfielder and get him on a free.

I DOUBT IT FAM

Leicester think they are dealing with United here. That we’ll just spew £32m for a player who only wants Arsenal. Not this Arsenal. We’re playing games with a club that can’t afford to exit this summer with Youri on their books. The fans get ants in their pants, but simple facts are this: We don’t need Youri right this second, so we can take our sweet time until there’s a horrible karma injury at the weekend. JUST JOKES.

We’re not leaving this window without a midfielder. No chance. I think there is a VERY high chance that midfielder is YT.

The wide forward? I’m not sure. Nico Pepe doesn’t seem close to any club. Galtier at PSG hasn’t moved on him. AC Milan haven’t made a move. Sevilla are waiting there with a ‘PLEASE LET US JUST HAVE HIM FOR NOTHING’ shaped begging bowl. It’s pretty bleak, because Arteta has no interest in the boy and at 26, he has his best years ahead of him. He has to take a move. Sitting on your ass for a year ain’t it.

There have been some links with Tonali of AC Milan. Chatter of £55m leads me to believe that the Italian club just need to whip up a market for a player no one is talking about. I just don’t see us signing an expensive DM this window. If money were no object, certainly, but personally, I think finding the next Xhaka is more imperative this season. Why? The position is easier to upgrade than the Partey one. Cheaper as well.

Hector Bellerin was spotted at an airport. His agents are in town to negotiate a very low fee. I don’t care what he goes for as long as we put a chunky sell-on clause into his deal so we don’t get flipped like fancy Chatham two up two down after Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has had his way with it on Changing Rooms.

You lot were lying to me.

‘Oh, we don’t like high fashion things on Le Grove, give me some Khaki shorts and an ‘I’m with stoopid’ t-shirt’

Well, I’ve been told a lot of you bought one of these fancy shirts.

If you want to enter the conversation like JC, jump on this LINK and type LG10 on purchase to get a 10% discount. Word on the street is Art of Football are going to partner with us on some special clobber.

The big supporter news is that the Government has authorised Licensed Standing. The terraces are BACK baby. In America, they call them supporter sections, cheaper seats, noisier fans, a great gateway ticket for the next generation of fans.

Arsenal data seems to indicate that 16,000 season ticketholders responded to a survey, 70% of them were in favor of standing sections (11,200), and 40% wanted to transfer to that section (4,480). That’s a great number to create a bit of noise, it’s about 10% of home season tickets. Get some drums, some flags, maybe a cheeky tifo, and you are ROLLING. The additional noise would be welcome! I also like standing more than sitting.

I’d love to know what the deal is… if you remove 3,000 seats, is that 6,000 standing, or do you have to keep the capacity the same? One for the safe-standing nerds. Might need to get Tim Payton on the podcast to help us navigate.

Man United watch is becoming a fun pass time. They have pulled out of a deal for Arnautovic, not because he’s bang average, but because United fans got upset. They are going full steam into Adrien Rabiot to make their drab midfield slightly more drab. I didn’t realise they added Tom Huddlestone and Steve McClaren to the backroom team. Honestly, EtH seems to be going two-footed into creating the least inspiring United experience and I am here for it! Funny thing is when people warn me off slandering EtH. I get the same with Tuchel. I get the same with Conte. Look, they can’t all bang, I’m going to be right at least 66% of the time here.

Right, short one today, thank you for reading. I put up a technology chat podcast on the app if you’re into Web3 tings. It went up first on the Patreon, which is where the cool kids hang out, so go there if you want a piece of the action. ALSO remember to listen to the On The Whistle. It hit #11 for football in England and #13 for soccerball in the states. Thank you for listening. x

I think safe standing means the installation of rail seating which results in the capacity remaining as it is. Regarding ‘Art of Football’, their stuff is brilliant, I’ve got the tee with all the retro shirts on it and fancy the beer mat tee too.

Really cool shirt, I’d rock it.

Few Youri/Leicester thoughts… Not so sure Leicester won’t hold out and keep YT. Especially if you consider their view that they’re European contenders. What’s the price of strengthening a direct competitor to your own detriment? (£32million I guess lol) Even more surely they wouldn’t do it before they come to play us at the weekend. Am I right in thinking they’ve made no signings (sounds familiar!) though, itchy fans clamouring for some new faces might pressure them. Think he would be a great addition to our midfield, looks in very tidy shape and whilst he may not be the absolute… Read more »

Thoughts on Pino? I’ve vaguely heard of him. I much prefer Diaby in terms of readiness. I can only hope he’s the next generational winger…

Mr Serge

Cheers Pedro I am all for taking the piss out of Man U long may that shit show continue

Freddie Ljungberg

Tonali is a long shot but he’s not just a DM. He can play CM as well, much better than Xhaka. 2 footed, great shot, good dribbler, mobile.

Interesting about Pino if it’s true we have a 33m bid accepted, sounds like a bargain.

Mr Serge

Not seen much of pino WHATS he like?

I would not swap my ticket for standing I am getting a bit long in the tooth to be on my feet for 4 plus hours

I honestly really wanna like Arteta, especially after reading this article about how he showed the balls to stand up to Auba who I still adore. If only he can fix the midfield and improve his game management, I’d soon become the biggest Arteta Ultra😃😃😃.

Unfortunately he still can’t get those two things right but damn he has some balls and principles and good luck to him

This man next to TP 5 and Arsenal is a lock for the Top four.
You heard it here!
Barca are struggling to register him.

Pedro, My thoughts exactly on YT. This is the way to do it. We’re in no rush and have the easiest start to the season in the history of the PL. Leicester, on the other hand, are losing leverage with each passing day. My hunch is that we’re getting him for 15-20M on deadline day. Nico is a difficult case. Let’s hope that Newcastle are trying to do to us what we’re doing to Leicester and that a deal will be forthcoming. We shouldn’t expect too much money for him. Werner just left Chelsea for 20M and that’s a player… Read more »

Hello,

Can I ask why most fans want YT when we already have Fabio Vieira at the club? From some compilations, he looks like he can play where Xhaka plays.

We may have to see him play before making definite judgements but maybe the player we want is already at the cub.

“Arsenal, is reportedly happy to wait a year for the midfielder and get him on a free.” If that really is the case, then Arsenal are trying to push Leicester to lower their fee by floating (hopefully a true) idea that either way we are getting YT. Interesting move by Arsenal. Rare for Arsenal to be leaking that kind of stuff, but in this case could prove useful in pushing Leicester to think twice and make the right choice of taking the cash now. I hope this strategy works and we get to do the deal before the window closes… Read more »

Tielemens holds the cards here if you are playing football poker. He won’t extend his contract, he goes to a club he wants this season he will get a hefty wage increase. If kept at Leicester he sees out his deal and walks on a Bosman, Leicester earn nothing and by next May is only 26 he will have plenty of offers. Top 6 clubs and Newcastle can afford to let players walk for free, something we have done way too much, I digress. Chelsea no.9 has been a curse since Drogba. Costa is the only one for me that hit a purple patch for about 18 months. Shevchenko was a goal machine viewed similar at the time to Lewandowski. Torres as well all round play and goals.I can’t remmeber anyone thinking they would fail to the extent they did many other strikers that didn’t do as well as they should. I did a bit of reading about stadium expansion a while back. Apparently there are options at the Emirates for ways to do it, but we cannot due to council restrictions on local infrastructure.

60k is our limit regardless, until someone can drop a fat brown envelope on some councillors lap.

And there is no way arsenal will swap any seat for a cheaper seat to have standing.

Mr Serge

DB10,

I think it’s us rather than Leicester who are dragging it out, at least if those reports about YT having his mind set on us are true. For them, it only makes sense if they think that YT is open to other clubs and they can whip up some interest. But if we are the only realistic destination, they’ll just lose leverage the closer we get to deadline day because they won’t want to lose him as Bosman next summer.

It certainly isn’t a risk-free strategy but I think it’s the right one.

TheLegendaryDB10

It probably is a bit of both.

Arsenal, a la Arsène, trying to save a few mil.

Leicester trying to get as much as they can.

Where you are right is that Leicester will want to sell. I mean who wants £0 instead of some hard cash (other than Arsenal)?

from the guardian Barcelona still cannot register their summer signings after La Liga rejected an attempt to use the club’s own funds to inflate the value of two of the asset sales they had resorted to in order to balance the books and strengthen their team. Thanks for the link GD4.

So basically Auba applied for compassionate leave with some conditions and then decided to break those conditions.

He is like a more likeable version of CR.

But I think what he did was deliberate. I think at that time, his heart is no longer at the club and he wants a move. So he manufactured something like this. Which is why he doesn’t seem to hold things personally. He seem to leave all his clubs in the same manner but the animosity is usually one-sided (the clubs). He seems very chill on the other hand.

GD4

DH,
TBH, I find it hard to believe Auba would do something like that deliberately
and outta spite. He is a goofy, happy go lucky type whose eccentricity is
tolerated when he is producing on the field.
Thomas Tuchel captured this when he coached him at Dortmund.
Mikel had it in for certain players like Ozil, Guendo, Sokratis, Torreira and later Auba but it’s funny how he had a caring side for the likes of Xhaka and Luiz who did more to wreck Arsenal’s fortunes on the field than any of those aforementioned players …

Luteo Guenreira

We need to get as many points as possible during the August/Sept stretch before the first international break. Schedule gets pretty tough in October.

Topside Northbank

With the schedule this season it’s so condensed it really becomes a case of not looking to far ahead.

Really important we get off to a good start before the interlull end of September.

More important the team/fan mentality is that playing Arsenal is going to be tough this season, too many games recent seasons have been almost viewed as ‘free hit’s’. Man City, Liverpool fixtures for sure we need to start getting results in these games,

Topside Northbank

Just saw pictures from yesterday’s training Tomiyasu we know played 45 m for the under 23’s so he’s back in the group.

ESR and Vieira also back out training certainly help depth to get those two on the bench then pushing others for their places.

Markymark

Timo Werner bought by Chelsea 47.5m sold 18months later 25m. With these depreciating fire sales in any other industry it’d result in deflationary pricing and / or bankruptcy.
Be interesting to see if the transfer marker finally loses inflationary momentum and corrects itself.
Seems to be a buyers market at the moment

Very true , strange that the non negotiables only come into effect off the field , never on the field, otherwise the likes of Luiz and Xhaka wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes when you take into consideration the pens and red cards for both of them.

I can understand why Arsenal are delaying making further acquisitions for time being.

1. We need to offload at least 5 players before transfer window closes. which will allow us to
buy one additional player

2. It makes sense to delay the transfer business in case we have an unforeseen injury in the
next three weeks.

3. The priority at the moment has to be a central/defensive midfielder if and when we buy.

Anyway, all this ralk about a left-footed back-up to Gabriel and some people are falling asleep on Auston Trusty. An increasingly likely scenario has us sticking with the current 4 CBs this season with Tomi and even Xhaka as emergency back-ups and then shipping out Holding while bringing back Trusty next season after a productive Championship loan spell with Birmingham. This will be an example of long-term planning at its finest….

Crimson

With Mari gone, can Auston Trusty step up to be that left sided cb next season. He’s started and played well in all 3 of Birminghams games this season. I think it’s important to put players perfomances into perspective. Ramsdale’s positives , a couple of good saves , out quickly , closed the angles down, good saves at important stages of the game Negatives ..his handling from crosses was erratic , fumbled the ball a couple of times that could have dropped to a more alert striker . Dallied on the ball a couple of times in the first half with the ball at his feet , which again could have been punished.. Regarding Arteta’s treatment of Auba, iam all for discipline more so from a Senior pro and highest paid professional to lead the way.
