JESUS VS RICHARLISON? PLEASE…

by .

Well happy damn FriYAY to you all.

There’s been a weird debate going on in some of the sports media that needs to go juvenile to make money in 2022. I am juvenile, so I’ll lean right into the ‘GABI VS RICHARLISON’ argument.

  1. Spurs chased down Gabriel Jesus first. There isn’t a world where an elite club would do anything different. Attitude, technique, output, winnertivity… Gabi J has it all.
  2. The goals comparison is ridiculous, Richarlison starts all the games, Gabi does not.
    1. Richarlison’ Premier League record is a goal every 290 minutes
    2. Gabriel Jesus’ Premier League record is a goal every 160
    3. Minutes-wise, Richarlison has clocked 4672 more than Gabi (that’s 51 more 90 minutes). In that time Jesus, someone who isn’t a prolific starter of games, has 10 more goals and 14 more assists.
  3. Arsenal bought a serial winner for £45m, probably lower, because the selling club leaks. Spurs purchased a sulker for £60m that was part of the worst Everton side we’ve seen in years.

Arsenal has the better deal here.

I’m gonna go out on a limb. If Eddie Nketiah can score the same amount of goals as Richarlison in a season when he was largely ignored, I’m gonna predict he scores more than Richarlison next season.

£60m and the best defence of him I’m getting is ‘there’s a good player in there’… mate, there was a good player in Jermaine Pennant when he wasn’t vomiting on himself at training.

I’m honestly living in a parallel universe when I have Spurs fan in my mentions purring over Perisic, Forster, Bissouma (cleared of sexual assault, yay!), and a £60m forward that doesn’t really score goals.

Arsenal said goodbye to Matteo G. Good riddance. I’m just a bit gutted we gave him away for such a pitiful fee. He’s really been transformed under the guidance of a macho manager in Sampaoli. I wonder what would happen if that manager left?

… too late. He’s out the door. Utterly furious that Marseille didn’t sign Saliba. Now, that tells you something… maybe Matteo was kept in check by a manager who as a bigger nutter than him. We’ll see. Either way, amusing that William Saliba is so good, managers end their own careers over him.

Things feel slow elsewhere, but you always have to remember, that’s because you don’t know what’s going on… it’s not real.

Gabriel Jesus is done, it doesn’t matter where the announcement is, the content team takes care of that.

The Raphinha deal might be frustrating, but he’s not moved to anyone yet, and it sounds like a crazy deal by any standards.

Martinez was always going to be complicated because Ajax don’t want to sell him.

Getting angry at transfers on the internet is the oddest of quirks, but we all do it. Arsenal are clearly making moves, there’s clearly investment, we’ll win some, we’ll lose some, but make no mistake… we’ll end the summer in great shape.

Right, short one today, but while you wait, check out our podcast we recorded for Patreon on Wednesday. We’ll be releasing these after two day because they are news related.

We discuss Gabi J, Raphinha and if we’re that bothered, we talk Martinez, and Johnny weighs in on standards merchants.

The brush off that Richarlison isn’t a good player is pathetic and adding the sexual assault charge in brackets re Bissouma equally so. Both are really good players that improve spurs. That’s it. The obsession with saying all transfers to rivals are rubbish and ours are amazing is a nonsense. Jesus plays for best team in the country. Richarlison played for relegation fodder so no matter how good he was that would effect goal output. You yourself questioned Jesus 2 months ago when you found out he was our main target. I’m excited for our transfer window i think we’ll… Read more »

Is that true about Sampaoli, or just a scurrilous rumour? Hilarious if so!! I imagine Guendouzi is prepped sulking..

Why are our deals ‘hard’ and Man Utd (who have been labelled shit, done and fucking rubbish) waltz in and get the deal done? Same as Chelsea with Raphina. A club who literally were the pariahs of the football world because of Abramovich have stolen our target. Arsenal are dithering again and failing again. Do not try and spin this. We are still a good two to three players short and we DO NOT have an out and out forward. Jesus is nice but he won’t win you the league and goals at both ends were a major issue for… Read more »

“Spurs chased down Gabriel Jesus first. There isn’t a world where an elite club would do anything different.”

Pedro, now you’ve really done it pal…….calling Spurs elite will give MurkyMark a heart attack, or at the very least provoke a strongly worded rebuke.

Leftside

Richarlison is a good player, Bissouma is a good player who would have slotted in well here. Its history now. Can we just focus on ourselves and the moves we make in this window.

We kick off the Prem in five weeks time today, hopefully we’ll be well equipped for a long season ahead.

Thierry Martinelli

My daily dose of Spurs related shit just got served to me in spades. Pedro just can’t resist talking about them 😂😂😂

Tee

Considering the their transfer fees, our need and their antecedents, jesus over Richarlison all day for me.

Slow day news is the reason we are measuring d**k with Tom’s club.

Spurs front three blows ours apart. End of debate.

There could be 70 goals between them. I’m not sure we can say the same.

Marko

Amadou Onana looks like Sambi Lokonga ’22. Midfield still needs better

Masterstroke

I have no issues with Richarlison at Spurs other than with that front three and the penalties they’ll get this coming season. How come they’ve had no competition for the signing of Djed Spence? I only saw him in two Forest cup games but he was MOTM both times. Surely we could have made an effort there?

Ishola70

What’s all this about Jesus being seen in an Arsenal no.9 shirt?

That’s a strange shirt number for a winger innit.

Tee

Sampaoli didn’t leave Marseille all because of saliba but because the club’s transfer focus negates his and that’s according to report. Bloggers had to include Saliba to generate traffick. because it’s known beforehand that Saliba will return to Arsenal

Bertie Mee

Manchester United fans are in uproar because of their slowness in the market . They haven’t signed Martinez yet . Are they a banter club?
We’ve signed three players already and haven’t let several walk like United who’ve lost Lingard, Matic , Pogba and Mata for nothing .
Our problem is not buying so much as selling. Guendouzi went for £1m more than we bought him for although he’s now a French international
I get pissed off when people who have no ideas how transfers are done suggest we are procrastinating.

Tee

Ishola,
Jesus is our new striker.

Tee

“Spurs front three blows ours apart. End of debate”

Is it with respect to last season or this incoming one?

Ishola70

Tee
“Jesus is our new striker.”

Well I be darned.

Whoknows

Tee if you don’t think that’s true for both this season and last how deluded are you.

Kane is better than Jesus or Laca
Son is much much better (right now at least) than Martinelli or Smith
Saka is better than kula although he is by all accounts a good signing and better than Richarlison but not by a huge margin.

Tee

I think that Sp*rs have done pretty well so far – my only problem with their moves is that it’s a huge amount of money to pay for a player (Richarlison) who might not even crack their starting lineup. He could end up being their Pepe… I’ll give them this – it shows ambition. One of the things that everyone, especially the “pundits” forget is that we started last season horribly, collapsed badly at the end, had no reliable goal scorers and still missed the CL by one lousy point. We don’t really have to worry about what Sp*rs do… Read more »

Unless this transfer window finally sees the departure of Xhaka and a replacement come in, we are going nowhere fast. Everyone is certain that Jesus has signed. So why has the club been on radio silence? This is supposed to be a professional outfit, so if he has signed what is the logic in perpetuating the saga by not announcing it? Why are our transfer windows so often an absolute amateur hour dumpster fire? Turner, Marquinhos and Vieira are our only confirmed signings. One is a back up keeper, the other two have fewer than 58 senior appearances between them… Read more »

Richarlison averages 8 goals a season in the PL.

Nothing to get excited about.

It astonishing our riled up you are because I asked such a question.

It’s one thing to talk about a concluded season (certainty) and another to talk about a new season (uncertainty outside man city and Liverpool). That’s why I asked such a question.

Eagle (from previous) Woah there I’m hardly shitting on him. I rate him highly. I’m just not sure if he’s got as much variety to his game as ESR on the left But I’d rather we keep and develop him over sign another starter in his place. I want to be quite clear, I really like martinelli and think he has enormous potential but like Pierre says, he does run down blind alleys into bodies a lot. What we do know is that if Arsenal had spent £60m on Richarlison and Spuds had forked out £45m on Jesus, the spin doctors would have been at work promoting the fact Arsenal got the better deal.

Of course they would

Chrispy

Have we had a look at De Jong or is he ManU or bust? Cant think of a better option in CMF. Would cost a mint but we seem to be willing to spend it.

Pedro

Did you open the sewer door and let all the spuds in?

Naija+soccer

Arsenal fans only care about Richarlison going to Spurs, because we haven’t signed Raphinha yet. And it’s looking like we won’t be signing him and he ll end up with Chelsea.

We need signings to tip things in our favor, whether that’s winning the popularity contest or signing better players.

andy1886

I know I’m being a pedant here but I keen reading that we finished a point behind the Sp*ds which if you can read a league table you’ll see is nonsense. Two point behind with an inferior GD means we’d have to get another three points to overtake them which for me was either the home game with Brighton or the away game at Southampton. Either way we f*cked, Sp*rs didn’t win it,

AFC Forever

Chrispy

I am a De Jong fan too.

Looks like he is off to Ten Haag, although it would concern me he seemed hesitant on the move. You’re always better off signing someone who really wants to be at your club. Strange carry on, Manchester United used to be the go to destination.

andy1886

Naija, I don’t care about another winger but get us a decent MF player and I’m happy. It’s not as id this is a recent requirement, we’ve needed one for at least a couple of seasons or realistically every since we decided that Xhaka was the answer (he wasn’t and never will be).

Naija+soccer

Finally got a chance to check out Marquinho’s highlights reel and I gotta say, he’s better than anything I was expecting. Looks like a good player already and can at least be a squaddie. I think he will turn into a big player in 2 years and beyond.

andy1886

Rich, while I’m being pedantic (and in keeping with Raptora’s campaign about getting names correct) it’s ten Hag, not ten Haag (although you ,ight expect it to be the latter).

Naija+soccer

Also he’s quite similar to Saka in style of play and seems to play on the right wing. So at the very least he can deputies for Saka.

He also reminds me of Douglas Costa and Alexis.

Raphina was never a priority position for me. Yet still feel a bit gutted we lost out which has no logic attached at all.

We have filled one priority position and have two more to go – CM and LB. Need to really push on Tielemans now while MU are

Serious question, is Richarlison are regular starter for Sp*rs or is he just squad depth? In half a season, the equivalent of 14 90s, Kulusevski recorded 13 goal contributions, 5 goals and 8 assists while over a full season Richarlison recorded 10 goals and 5 assists, 15 goal contributions.

Habesha Gooner

Liverpool just have Mo Salah an 350k a week deal. I have a feeling they might regret that. His numbers in the 2nd half of last season wasn’t anything like he has delivered before. The Klopp factor might help him prolong his career. But how many players fall off after signing huge deals? A lot I reckon.

Habesha Gooner

gave Mo Salah *

andy1886

Habesha, it’s almost a carbon copy of our own Alexis/Ozil situation. Clubs sometimes feel that can afford to lose one big player (Alexis/Mane) but can’t afford to lose both in the same window. Some of it’s about keeping the talent but another part is about saving face.

Jonko

Raph going to Barca lol

Habesha Gooner

Richarlison is a good player. And he will score goals in a better team like Spurs. But the price they paid for him was at least 20 mil over than his value. And there is no doubt who is better. Jesus shits all over him interms of ability. Looks like being in the periphery of the City team has made Jesus an underrated player.

Jonko

Im quite pleased with United gettint Martinez. Just never understood why Arsenal wanted him in the first place. Raphina on the other hand is a loss.

Habesha Gooner

Andy
Yeah they chose to keep Salah over Mane. The presence of Klopp might make Salah perform at the level he has been performing at. But his physical powers might also let him down and pool might regret giving him this huge deal. It is a coin toss really. We should have sold both Ozil and Sanchez in our case. Aubameyang too. It is more an emotional decision than a properly thought of plan.

Neil Pattison

I always find most comments full of unrealistic expectations- KSE as a responsible sports franchise intent on progress will not sack Arteta provided he manages to better this seasons points total of 69 next season. It’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that 73 or 74 points could still result in fifth place – why would you sack anyone for achieving that? Paul Merson would apparently…..

Trilbilly

Jesus has signed, there was a clip of him on 433 being paraded around the Emirates.

The majority of the chatter online from other fans is that thank fuck Richarldson didn’t join their club. You’d be forgiven for thinking his stats over the past few seasons were of a good midfielder.
Also this line that ‘he’s been in a shit Everton side just think how good he could be’ is BS, could it be that he’s part of the reason why Everton have been so poor.

Domi B

Pedro is so invested into Mikel succeeding that he’s now slacking off Saliba, who never even got a chance in this world class club, where he wouldn’t have anything to offer. Embarrassing stuff Pedro, still. I don’t visit for a couple of months and you still sell this tripe on exciting times ahead under Mikel.

Habesha Gooner

Barcelona swooping in to match Chelsea’s offer is funny. That is according to Gerrard Moreno. They hijacked our deal and now they are hijacked too. They might get Dembele who is a higher potential player than Raphinha but he won’t stay fit to have an impact.

I am glad Chelsea didn’t get him if we couldn’t. We still have Saka but they don’t have Raphinha now. They are looking like the weakest team that we can take over for that 4th spot right about now. Let’s see how the window ends though.

andy1886

Pretty obvious that Raphinha only had eyes for Barca so best not to sign a player who’d rather be elsewhere anyway. Not that I ever wanted him (or Richarlison). Of the three Jesus is the best option even if he isn’t my first choice.

Habesha Gooner

Lisandro Martinez would have been good for us. I think everyone is making a play for the samenolayers this summer. I think we should convince him to join Arsenal. Match United’s bid. We are far ahead in our project and we are more attractive right now. He might play more at United but he will join a far more advanced project at Arsenal. But there are plenty of LBs available. It just doesn’t look good losing out on two of our 4 or 5 targets.

Chris

How much did we get in the end for Guendouzi?

englandsbest

People seem to forget that football is a team game. And therein lies Arsenal’s huge advantage. Arteta/Edu have assembled a squad designed to blend. If you look at the current personnel, they have been hand-picked for that purpose – and even more so come the end of the transfer window. Compared with what they had, it’s a squad started from scratch. But a squad eighteen months in the making which is accustomed to each other. Every manager’s dream: a lean mean evergreen machine. Assuming the remaining missing pieces are fitted, it’s fair to assume that we start on the front… Read more »

Grimaldo was flavour of the month and being qupted for £30m a couple of years ago, what happened to him to only be asking for £6-7m?

andy1886

Pedro, well they had to sell one of them and Mane seemed most keen to leave so it makes sense. Salah for three years on £300k+ a month is a risk though as we found out.

andy1886

If we can’t find a decent LB solution then why not let Bellerin see out his contract and try again next summer? I’d certainly prefer him to Cedric.

DUIFG

Loving Martinez going away, the amount of people creaming over a back up lb rather than going for a wide option was worrying. Let’s invest in the centre and up top, tielmans now please

DUIFG

However you cut it Kane son Richardson is tasty. End of comment.

Once you step back from the agenda it’s that simple, can we assemble a front 3 that can compete. Martinelli right now isn’t on that level.

I absolutely love saka but we can’t smash the kid .

I like Jesus but output isn’t yet at that level.

We need more

GD4

Damn.
Sampaoli walks out on Marseille despite a second place finish and leading them to the champions league cuz of their failure to land Willy Saliba, as a major sticking point

Habesha Gooner

Grimaldo would be a very good alternative to Martinez. He has been ripping up the portugese league for years. And he is very good. We signed his backup in Tavarez and it didn’t work out. Grimaldo is a different player though. And he is coming in to his prime at 26. He would be genuine competition for Tierney. And for 7 mil due to his broken relationship with benfica would be a fantastic deal to be honest. Spending at least 35 mil on a backup in defense for Martinez was a huge expense in the first place. The attraction was due… Read more »

According to Ben Jacobs, We are still deliberating whether to bid for Tielemans. This should have been decided before the window opened. And United is interested too. But luckily for us, Tielemans is an Arsenal fan and he would pick us.

Arteta has had one major blindness since he signed on as a coach at Arsenal. And that is Xhaka. He is going to die on that Xhaka hill.

Interesting to see the best performing players in Eredivisie as it’s certainly one of the leagues, along with Portugal’s Primeira Liga, to pick up top talent from.

https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/155/Tournaments/13/Seasons/8625/Stages/20892/PlayerStatistics/Netherlands-Eredivisie-2021-2022

Top 10 is Luis Sinisterra, Tadic, Gakpo, Haller, our Lisandro, Mazraoui, Sangare, Antony, Karlsson, Manure bound Timber.

To be honest these are some serious players and probably each of them is good enough to play for us. Should look into Sinisterra, Gakpo, Mazraoui, Sangare, Antony, Karlsson (17 goals, 13 assists for a 23 yo left forward quite impressive).

Venga, Dani

Not too fussed on Lisandro TBH. He sounds like a special player but I’m just never going to be sold on a 5 foot 7 CB in England. Not to mention he would realistically be a backup to Gabriel at LCB. Much too much was made of his ability to play LB – he isnt Xhaka slow but he doesnt have the pace to handle covering wide areas.

Would much rather we invest where we are deficient! CM/CDM, and backups to our fullbacks. Not rocket science here!

Rich

If United are hell bent on signing Martinez, the least we can do is make it as difficult for them as possible…

Offer the €50 million that Ajax want, which will mean United will at least have to match it..

Then offer him £140k p/w, and make United exceed that offer.

We won’t get the player, but we can at least make sure the deal costs them more than it otherwise would…

Attackers from the Dutch league lately have a hard time stepping up to the Premier league. Most of them flop although there have been some exceptions. Even top performers like Ziyech have struggled to replicate their form to the PL. Depay, Altidore, Bryan Ruiz, Leroy fer and some others too.

The exception recently has been Luis Suarez. But in the past plenty of Dutch imports have succeeded. Van nistelrooy the prime example.

Might not have dawned on some that if Arteta doesn’t see a need to strengthen the midfield then it matters not one bit what we think.

Our first priority should have been to get someone who can play when Partey breaks down and secondly someone who can reduce Xhaka to bench status or preferably out of the club.

There is still time but the lack of midfield links in those areas don’t bode well.

This daily comparison to Spurs is beginning to look like insecurity.

Also comparing the strike rate of someone getting passes from KDB and Silva to someone getting passes from Iwobi and Anthony Gordon is embarrassing.

Jesus was the second choice striker at a club that had no striker.

Pedro, Fantastic post. You made anyone comparing Richarlison to Jesus look like a fool. Raptora also good job discussing the Brazil team work of Jesus and Richarlison. Great work by both of you.. but what bothers me is that I have to wonder why it’s necessary at all. Why would Arsenal fans be making something negative about a clearly great signing like Jesus? Typical Guns of Hackney comment. Just shows a loser attitude.

At the moment, they have their 2 most important players at 30, plus a trash Richarlison. Kulusevsky looks like a good player.

Would anybody here prefer to be in spurs situation going forward, versus ours with our important players have 5, and mostly 10 years on them, with time to get better as players even.

That’s why it’s called a project, and trajectory is the word often used.

Hackney wants the spurs trajectory.

End of debate, lol.

On one hand Arsenal have tried to spend £100 million on Martinez + Raphinha this week, which at least suggests we’re trying to strengthen, and have reportedly spent £45 million on a proven PL forward,

On the other hand, I’m petrified we’ll end up with the dregs….

If we can’t get our top target in Martinez, I really hope we can get Zinchenko for £20-£25 million, he’s a good player, and for that type of price, would represent excellent value
