SPINNING PLATES NEED TO BE CAUGHT

by .

The news has not shifted in 24 hours, the Raphinha deal, something of a farce at the moment, is still up in the air.

Barcelona just clawed its way out of debt this year, so they might be dim enough to plunge themselves back into it.

Chelsea’s Todd B is just running around having a great time with his new club, so who knows how real their interest is in the Brazilian.

Arsenal still think they are in the mixer, but don’t want to waste time with a new bid if the player doesn’t fancy it.

If it happens, amazing, if it doesn’t, we’ll move on another player that is of a similar quality.

Spurs, fresh off a rejection from Gabriel Jesus, have spent a whopping £60m on Brazilian Richarlison. The player has always threatened to be good. He’s big, he’s strong, he looks like the front cover of a FIFA game, but the reality is, he’s never delivered. £60m should buy you a forward that has, at least once, scored more than 15 Premier League goals in a season. His biggest assist haul is… 5. They are buying potential and a player that is known for being a pain in the arse. I am game for the move. There are more dangerous ways Spurs could have spent the money they borrowed this summer.

As for the ‘better than Jesus’ crowd… Spurs went for Jesus first. Not even Conte is in agreement with you.

Edu continues to do the lords work with contracts, there are strong rumours that we’ve tied Martinelli down to a new 5-year deal. That is immense, especially as we know Jurgen Klopp is a super fan. I like that we’re not living in a SIGN DA TING world these days.

The big one, obviously, is Bukayo Saka. I’d be more worried about it if there were rumours about other clubs circling. I suspect this next deal will be fairly easy for Arsenal, but the one after is going to be very dependent on Arsenal being a top-level team that competes for the big trophies.

Arsenal are still hunting down Lisandro Martinez, but United have entered the picture. If it’s about who can offer more money, we’ll lose. If it’s about who has the best project and the most intent on the deal, it’ll be Arsenal. Let’s see where that one goes. Arsenal are going all guns blazing this window to make sure Arteta has as much time with the players as possible.

Ok, short one today. If you are DESPERATE for sexy content. Matt, Johnny and Pedro recorded a pretty beastly podcast yesterday about all the goings-on in the world of transfers. I think you’ll like it. But… it’s on Patreon.

Nice piece. Let’s all hope that the Martinez transfer works out. That will be an immense addition to our team. The earlier we identify another option to Raphina the better in case we are unable to sign him. Better days ahead.

A week and no official signing or other progress. Proper roller coaster this TW.

Rumours that Boehly is going after Neymar??!! If there was a transfer equivalent of a rain dance, I’d be doing that to make it happen!!

Where is the Jesus unveiling goddammit!

Pedro going from Kane won’t last the season without breaking down, to ……….Spurs should’ve spent their money better making sure Kane can last the season.

Pedro, you kinda lost your Spurs transfers punditry credibility poo pooing the Bissouma deal.

Todd Boehly is a mad lad isn’t he. From Sterling, to Raphinha, to trying to hijack Richarlison from spuds, to Neymar?! Guy is a legit basket case.

Richarlison is a strong athlete.. not a great footballer. Big difference. There always been a group on legrove who rate any big strong physical specimens, like Buffouna, Aurier, Capoue. They totally discount skill and football brains.

You know I get behind every new player Arsenal bring in with my support… but if we had signed Richarlison I would have been absolutely disappointed. For that money, I would be depressed.

No announcement doesn’t mean nothing is being done on signings . Jesus signed on Monday but isn’t announced yet . Turner was tied up months ago and announced on Tuesday . It’s very tough to do deals for a relatively restricted number of players plus a new financial year begins tomorrow for many clubs and many contracts end on June 30th I bet incredibly sick of stupid comments about Arsenal ‘mneed to get a move on ‘ from people who have no idea how difficult deals are to complete nowadays especially given the competition out there and the mentality of… Read more »

For the record, I never rated Richarlison.
There are but few footballers who can play angry and excel and he isn’t one of them.

Whatever money they’re paying for him is of little concern to most Arsenal fans, but what should be of concern is the fact he gives them another option up front which they didn’t have before.

Bob N16

I read somewhere that there might me an accounting advantage of waiting until 1st July before signing Jesus.

Chavs new owner seems to be reading newsnow to get transfer ideas. They will spend to show commitment, and only make their situation worse.

He’ll hire a professional before the next window to get it under control, but it’s going to be a big job to clear some of the excesses of the past few years.

In a few years, those cretinous fans will realize that things will never be the same as with Roman.

Aaron

Saw the pic of Jesus wearing no 9, walking the turf.

Now this guy can be HUGE for AFC!

Something to get excited about.

Get a proper DM (Xhaka out), a challenge/substitute/plug in play for Partey, a winger, and we will be going places, 4th or higher?

Correct Pedro, 4th or higher???

TheBayingMob

Ten Haag is key, Martinez wants United as well. That’s done, if there are plan bs or cs it’s time to move on them. We went from excited about the summer to being out in our place scrapping around, top players would rather join the United and Chav dumpster fires than us …

CaliGooner

Two things that richarlison excels at, dark arts and being unlikable. He will fit right in with Son in the diving and being easily hateable department.

What happened to Hickey as coverage at left back and right back???

Raphinha wants to go to Barca and Martinez is probably going to United so let’s move on a Gakpo and hickey.

Positive Pete,

Real Vieira Lynn was Tony. Came back as Tony a day after Vieira Lynn and Kiljoy got binned, saying it was a mistake to ban such intelligent or wise commenters as them.

He had a good vocabulary, but clearly not good in dealing with other human beings.

I’m sure they’ll be back under new names.

Imagine being such a loser that you need to constantly change your identity just to participate in discussions with normal people.

GoonerDave

Chelsea are taking a big bath on Lukaku. Roughly a 20 million pound hit, just to get through one more year of his contract. They could lose 100 million on that deal when his contract ends. That signing was a gargantuan failure. Maybe the biggest ever.

Bigper

Think you need to look at the stats again, since signing for Everton richarlison has more pl goals than Jesus.
Overall Richarlison has 48 goals in 173 games, Jesus has 58 goals in 159 games, however Jesus has played an extra season in the premier league. Also fair to point out Jesus is at the best club arguably in pl history whilst richarlison has done it at Everton and watford….
Don’t particularly think either of them are that good, they wouldn’t be going to arsenal and spurs if they were lol

WengerEagle

^It was the biggest transfer fail in history, absolutely.

At least in the cases of Coutinho and Hazard both had very decent first spells at Barca/Real and it was more to do with injuries ruining their spell.

Soham

Apparently Barca have made an improved bid for Raphinha

nwm

Richarlison is not replacing Kane or Son, so does start ahead of Kukusevski? Kulusevski arguably had a better season.

Chelski, Barcelona and Spuds should be banned from the transfer market for the next two years.
UEFA, of course, would never enforce that because it would mean no Rolex watches in their Christmas stockings.

Habesha Gooner

Richarlison is being signed as a backup to Kane and Son. He could play both roles well. Conte is a hit and miss type of manager when it comes to his signings. They will work for him. Obviously things move in unison but would rather bag Lisandro as our priority than get too engaged in a bidding war for Raphina.

Also the internet during transfer season is like the school playground. Appreciate we’re meant to hate spurs & all they’re doing but personally can’t be arsed with it. Would rather we just treat them like a little club than engaging in their dead banter / being that bothered about what they’re doing.

Tying down GMartine11i another very positive move. Must say been impressed with Edu this summer, credit where it’s due!

Pedro

From my perspective Arsenal need to fill three holes in their squad.

First is a squad left back to replace Tavares
Second is a quality central midfielder to rotate with Xhaka and Partey
Third is a squad right back to replace Pepe

The suggestion is that Martinez is a versatile left sided defensive player who can fill three positions in which case we will need just one additional player to replace Pepe and cover
for Saka.

Ernest Reed

“ One or both of Nigel Tufnel & wicked wally is Champagne Charlie”

That’s actually quite funny. I can assure you that neither are even remotely similar, let alone Charlie. Both are uniquely themselves, miserably so.

“ First is a squad left back to replace Tavares”

Am I missing something here? Replacing Tavares? Has he been given up on?

“Third is a squad right back to replace Pepe”

Also interesting to see a few of the youngsters leaving on perm deals. Would hope they involve sell ons or other clauses. Dan Ballard was meant to be pretty decent, just confirmed to Sunderland. Hope the path from the academy remains true (equally interred ting reports of bringing Jack back as a coach… Shame we lost Betsy as u23 coach) Feel like we’ve had one Hale Ender a season for a few years – who might it be this year ? Patino / Azeez / Nelson / Salah-Oudine …

Tom

Conte was definitely all in for Jesus.
All Italians are.

Raphinha is gone move on. We should just rotate Omari Hutchinson and Flores to deputize for Saka. They’re that good. Give them their chances. Fairly easy to do that Arteta needs to stop playing Saka in the league cup/FA cup and not until the later stages of the Europa League.
Focus should be in CM and LB.

CapeMaker

Diaby from Leverkusen should be brought In

Trilbilly

I don’t know what the plan is for Martinez, CB, LB, CDM?

NJ Gooner

I know, understandably, it isn’t a popular view. But, if it works, I think that Martinez will be our most important signing of the summer. The solidity he would offer the defense in several positions, and his outball against the press, would give far greater freedom to the attack as it is.

So, predictably, I rate him our most important target. There is a reason why Pep spends a fortune on utility players at full/wing back. From Walker to Zinchenko, it is a winning formula.

azed

“I know, understandably, it isn’t a popular view. But, if it works, I think that Martinez will be our most important signing of the summer.”

Not sure why Richardson and Spurs are even a topic of conversation? Richarlison is a petulant moody player who runs hot and cold, more tepid than anything else. As for Spurs, who gives a shit what they do? They are an older and more experienced team and all things being equal, the fact that Arsenal ran with them most of the season and are a very young squad – who would you rather be in a couple of years time? If Arteta sorts himself out in terms of applying solid squad rotation, Arsenal position themselves for long term success. Jesus… Read more »

The truth is richarlison is a good footballer and a full brazil international. Lets not pretend that he is crap. He improves spurs just the way Jesus improves us. and all spurs signing can’t be bad just because they are tottenham

Jim

Regarding midfield, Sambi Lokonga is only two & a half years younger than Tielemans ?! I’m surprised by both as I thought they were greater difference. Wonder if the club is looking externally for all their needs or if some positions will be covered through utility (ie Martinez) or internal solutions (Lokonga et al). Sambi looked good when he had a bit of a run then got scorned and somewhat disappeared. As many have said I think some squad rotation in extra competitions will do us plenty of good, if only Mikel sees it the same way !

Graham62

It pains me to say it, but Richarlison is a very good player.
At Spuds he could thrive because he won’t be the main man.
Anyway, who gives a shite about Spuds.

Ernest Reed

Richarlison can look a good footballer Adams, on a really poor Everton team. Same can be said of Raphinah on an equally poor Leeds team. Jesus has been a solid performer on a very good Man City team. It all depends on perspective I suppose, but given a choice of the three, I would take Jesus given he has that one undeniable intangible, he knows how to win. Advantage Arsenal.

Ernest Reed

Graham, you curmudgeonly old wise man, how have you been? Been a while, hope you and your family remain well?

englandsbest

We should not be too concerned about Saka moving on some time in the future. In fact it seems to me an essential ingredient of the ‘young and vigorous’ culture. How else do you find places for them? The trick is, of course, to sell him at a little past his peak. No doubt this will be made clear to him in any contract that takes him to say 26 or beyond. As well as a healthy transfer fee, It’s a way of keeping his wage demands lower, knowing that his future wage will be huge.

Adams

Ernest i will take Jesus any day but richarlison is not too far behind him cus both improve our squad

Ernest Reed

“The trick is, of course, to sell him”

On this particular player EB, not selling him would be the best outcome. Sometimes the best sale or purchase that you make is not making one at all. Saka, for me, fits that analogy best.

8I think Richarlison is far better that6 the misers on an Arsenal forum will ever give him credit for. He’s been scrounging all his life in lesser teams like Watford and Everton. Noe he gets to play in a team that will create more chances for him. I’ve always loved his aggression and will to get oen past his opposition, Gabriel Jesus has the same fight. I guess it’s something that comes from growing up in a Brazilian favela and having to fight for every blade of grass. Jesus is going to get us lots of free kicks and penalties… Read more »

Spurs fans are ecstatic about all of the deals they have done. Apparently they already have such a super team that some of the wonderful players they are expected to sign may only end up as back-ups. Even Richarlison, who they laud to the heavens, may not start all games. As for Martinez, with United about to sign a 5’6″ LB, adding a 5’9″ CB was supposed to be a bit much, but apparently Ten Hag is keen; so we shall see whether Ten Hag’s pull is greater than the prospect of playing in a leaky old stadium and training… Read more »

Habesha The reason why Conte doesn’t stay at one club is not entirely due to him. In fairness, he doesn’t get sacked-0 he walks away His exit from Chelsea wasn’t entirely his fault- they never keep managers His exit from Juve was because they wanted to do things with transfers. Conte wanted Cuadrado, but Juventus couldn’t afford to buy him from Fiorentina. Then Juve let Pogba leave and couldn’t keep Arturo Vidal. He was also said to hate the club’s friendly summer tours. TOM It is 85 mil. Bissouma is a good signing. Richarlison though isn’t value for money. They signed a 40 mil forward for 60 mil. We did the same with Ben White when we paid 15 mil over his value. Sometimes there is nothing wrong with over paying for players. Richarlison is way over priced. Raphinha has 9 total caps for Brazil to Jesus’ 56 caps.

Same age, amazing that right? What do I know though.

WengerEagle

That is where you are confused Nigel. It was never personal towards White, well at least personally speaking. The frustration came from spending £50m of our £135m kitty on a player that frankly didn’t move the needle for us in the way that a CM or ST would have.

The frustration was with the club, not White. The ‘Poole Beckenbauer’ and Benny Blanco was just banter at the dweebs who swore his progressive passing and carries were the best thing since the Wheel was invented.
