Let’s have a little pep talk before we get into this blog.

You… yes YOU need to pick yourself up off of the ground.

All this crying on the internet that you think we’re going have a bad day is weak sauce. It’s low-fat mayonnaise on a plant-based-meat alternative kebab. It’s asking the Doner Operator to box it up so you can have it for lunch tomorrow.

I will not tolerate this type of meekness today.

Arsenal are in control of top 4 with two games to go. It doesn’t matter that Spurs have taken points off big teams, it doesn’t matter that the mainstream media are slobbering over Antonio Conte, no one gives a fuck what G.Nev thinks.

The simple arithmetic is this: We need to beat two sides we have outperformed all season then top 4 is ours.

We are better than Newcastle.

We are better than Everton.

The players aren’t going into this game having a mental breakdown, so I don’t expect you to misbehave on a big night like this.

Channel your inner winnertivity. Go into that Group Chat clutching your cojones (real or metaporical) and shout YES, GLORY TO ARSENAL! TONIGHT WE TASTE VICTORY! PRAISE TO SAKA! PRAISE TO ODEGAARD! PRAISE TO BIG MO!

Now go to your boss’s oak drinks cabinet. Open a bottle of something expensively aged. Pour yourself a stiff one, crush it (no faces), then head back to your desk. If they ask who sent you, tell them Pedro, it’ll be fine with HR, I promise.

Are you set? Good, now let’s talk football.

Arsenal look set to have a pretty decent team to choose from. Gabriel and Ben White went to Newcastle, I would take that news as meaning it is highly likely our defence will have 4 of our 5 starters. That is absolutely massive considering the occasion.

We need huge games from all of them. Aaron Ramsdale needs to exude his early-season confidence, Ben White and Gabriel need to do their jobs with confidence and calm, and Tomi just needs to be Tomi. I don’t know what the fullback choice will be, but having the Lord of Chaos at left-back is probably a worse option than Tomi there with Cedric on the right. Both options are less than ideal, let’s be honest.

In midfield, it’ll be Xhaka and Mo Elneny, they just have to play with discipline and heart. Newcastle don’t have a great defence, the biggest job of the evening is going to be what we can do in their box. Our midfield needs to give a platform to the youngsters in the final 3rd to do some damage.

I don’t know how Arteta is going to mix it up in the final third, but whoever is there needs to take their chances.

Newcastle play out the back, perfect for Eddie to sniff our opportunities, the press is going to be important.

Trippier is on his second game of the season, the perfect chance to run an older player ragged.

Targett on the other side is there to be got at.

Our reality is fans is that we are going to have to watch Arsenal suffer for chunks of the game. West Ham had basically nothing to play for and they went two up against City and should have scored two more. When we were gunning for the league in 1999, we went on an outrageous tear post losing to Villa on December 13th, we didn’t lose a single game, we were looking really good for the league, then we went to Leeds, who had nothing to play for sitting comfortably in 4th, and we lost to a Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank late goal.

Newcastle have nothing to play for outside the joy of being really fucking irritating to our end-of-season run. They are under the lights in front of their rabid fanbase, they’ll want to exit the season with a scalp, Arsenal would be a pretty good one.

They’ll come at us at 100mph. We have to ride out that energy. We have to kill the moment. We might have to take the game into the last 20 minutes to win it.

Prepare to suffer, but be positive about the game, these boys have shown deep character all season.

Spurs was an aberration.

The job to be done is clear. So let’s do it. No excuses. We can taste that Champions League music in the air.

Right, on that note, see you in the comments. x

No point blaming players when manager has no idea how to set them up. Playing Odegaard and Xhaka in the midfield against three batting midfielders shows he has no idea.

He just plays the same team set up the same way against everyone. Where is the tactical nous that is always talked about?

Should have matched three defenders against Spurs three attackers and he fucked that up. Now he plays 2 non midfielders in midfield against three.

Not buying a proper centre mid is just criminal.

So the target for NEXT season is 4th, gotcha.

Spud cunts laughing at us now.

“At the start of the season 5th would have been progress to everyone but now it’s the end of the world. Seriously support your team, they need it now.

Doesn’t take.long., does it?

Well it was a good run but its over now. We lost top 4 when we bottled those 3 games against teams we should have beaten. Well maybe Palace we could have accepted but Brighton and Southampton we should have won. If we won those we were fine. I know we all disappointed but nobody expected us to do what we did after the start we had. We took it to the wire when we were written off. Arteta is the right man for the job and will do better next season for sure. Its just funny how so many… Read more »

Spurs got in our heads and physiologically damaged us. Spurs lol what a shit end to the season.

This trend of conceding first and then completely folding is really costing us games. All season long if we concede first we don’t win the game. That’s a terrible stat and needs looking at.

Mr Serge

Interesting how the AKBs go after the critics for not showing up after a win but I haven’t seen any of them post after this disaster yet

I must not be labeled as one as I have been on here all night then

We threw it away last few weeks
I have been pessimistic all week

Weak, foolish, timid, gutless, clueless performance.

Doubt we’ll be able to obtain our top choice targets now. Who wants to come play for a team that play like this? Who choke against Brighton and Southampton? It’s just not good enough. Gutting. I can’t wait for this fucking season to end.

13 defeats in prem & 47 yes 47 goals conceded

Managers careers should be ended tonight not just players . That was a worse bottle job than emery’s and the at took some beating . Sorry but your man isn’t up to it

Black Snake

Next season is gonna be a lot tougher

Another year that Arteta fails to reach Emery “the bum” 70 points, after spending 300 millions and moved all the deadwood.

Very weak performance.

Ernest Reed

“ Interesting how the AKBs go after the critics for not showing up after a win but I haven’t seen any of them post after this disaster yet.”

The Acolytes are waiting on their leader to jump in head and feet first. Would you honestly believe that a collective group of tools would actually stand up and be counted?

David Smith

This team has run out of steam,. The recovery from Partey and KTs predictable injuries was shorter lived than needed. Arteta has hit his target, finished above where many thought he would, but this was so poor. This game and the month of January should be imprinted in Artetas soul if he is to move forward, but these shit shows have regularly revealed themselves throughout the season. Sometimes, I wish we had the inspiration of a flawed ex manager, a Wenger team would have gone for that. There are mitigating circumstances, but Ian Dury summed up this end of season… Read more »

Thursdays and Sunday football.

Mr Serge

It’s the spud cunts I know that are abusing me right now that more annoying to be honest I have to live with it for another season

”13 defeats in prem & 47 yes 47 goals conceded”

And we have spent over £200m mostly on defenders since Tets has taken over, pretty comical.

Jim Lahey

“We threw it away last few weeks”

Yeah but we have been playing shit football ever since he arrived.

Well that just wasn’t good enough in relation to what was at stake tonight but whole heaps not good enough. We are rolling out fvcking Elneny and Xhaka in midfield still after all these years and people wonder why there can be a staleness about this side. It’s not good enough that these two are still here after all these years. It’s scandalous. Someone mentioned that an excuse rolled out will be the youthfulness of the squad. Well the aspects which you associate with perhaps a failure of youth would be things such as naivety or over-exuberance. But we saw… Read more »

The whole season just became a non entity now. United have the most over paid crap players with a shit season and they will be in the same competition as us next season. Thinking now, I am so pissed at that January window. We could have improved but we chose not to. B. Guimaraes just played a blinder today like he had something to prove. The owners are absolute shit though. They spend barely to get by. As long as their brand is growing they are fine. 3 years for Arteta before he got the job done was a joke.… Read more »

+9 goal difference after 37 rounds.

The minute a decent team drops out of CL probably spurs then they will do us again.

We are such an enigma of a team. Every time it feels like we ve finally figured it out, some mess is around the corner somewhere, laughing at our naivety.

John T.

Most important two matches of the year and this was their performance. Arsenal is either hot or cold, manic or depressive. That is a reflection of the management team and especially the manager. Not impressed at all.

Baying mob
Wenger never fucked up these qualifying opportunities on peanuts for transfer money and served footy you can only dream of now
Weak, lazy analogy on your part

I think Arteta’s tactical competency deserves questioning. He has made some strange and poor decisions that have cost us, repeatedly. Xhaka at left back is the obvious one. Tomi on the left is another. He seems to get schooled by managers who genuinely are tactically astute. It’s alarming.

‘At the start of the season 5th would have been progress to everyone but now it’s the end of the world. Seriously support your team, they need it now’.

Just like with Emery, it’s the crunch time collapse that is so damaging, not the final position.

The players on the floor shows you that the season is done and dusted.

This blog is dead if you continue to defend that excuse of a manager Pedro. Ban me if you like but you need to wise up or you can’t be taken seriously anymore.

I wouldn’t look forward to this summer transfer window , I’d be more worried about the selling than the buying . It was widely reported a few months back if arsenal failed to get champions league, Liverpool will go strong for saka

The shortfalls in our squad were laid bare, we haven’t kept a clean sheet since Tierney got injured, and we’ve struggled in midfield without Partey.

We can throw the baby out with the bath water, or the club can get to work to tie down our talent, then address the quality, depth + experience issues within our squad.

2-0 is flattering, we’ve been beyond shit.

I totally agree, the number of chances and actions they had in front of our goal was ludicrously high.

Even the shots taken stat for NU doesn’t tell the whole story.

I was really hoping to see an Arsenal go all out and attack today but we had no MF. For whatever reason nothing was working and we lost complete control..

The team still needs a spine … proper CB, Proper cm and proper striker. That’s how you build a team.

Yeah a really gutless performance. Who cares now? I feel like all the positive energy is worthless. Who would want to play for us next season when we are that clueless? We are a fucking joke!

Wenger lost 13 games in his last season and he was sacked.

I really don’t now where to start. The bloody idiots that were dismissing Newcastle just didn’t get how difficult the challenge that playing away this late in the season was. Gary Neville just summed it up in that non European football this season gave Arsenal such a head start but this squad are well well short. For me it’s the idiots that rubber stamped the January exodus should hang their heads in shame the squad even with 20 odd games less than the big boys lacked depth but above all lacked experience and that told Simply put this team isn’t… Read more »

13 defeats is alarming even if you get 5th place. You can’t excuse that kind of stat with league position. It just shows you’re where you are by happenstance

No other way to describe that but Spursy, Arteta has delivered that.

” proper CB”

If that chap spends another penny of our money on a CB he can fuck right off back to cone-tossing.

If we don’t get 4th (or above) next season (I pray we do) then there can be no defense that he has to go.

If you think about this season, how many games have we’ve been playing good in/been dominant. I can think of 3, Southampton, Leeds and Norwich. That’s 3 games out of 38.
This team won’t compete for shit next season either, no good players wants to come play EL

Any genuine, ambitious clubs would have Mertesacker care takes and sack the manager by Wednesday ,not our value of course. Cultural change i see… under our young management

Conte watching the game as he drags on a cigar chuckling and muttering Spanish pussy

Jim Lahey

“We can throw the baby out with the bath water, or the club can get to work to tie down our talent, then address the quality, depth + experience issues within our squad.”

How about addressing the quality and experience issue of our manager?

Josip Skoblar

Awful display and terrible coach. We are going nowhere.

No no people, you are wrong the Emirates is bouncing this year, they know how good that was. It was generational.

We really brought absolutely nobody in on January. Not one player. Incredible.

Xhaka is the closest thing we have to a leader in this team. How depressing is that!!

Mr Serge

Pedro is live on his twitch now

Habesha, I agree.

The Kroenkes have made a big show of being more involved in the club, but when it counts—January—it’s same old business as usual. I suspect they like Arteta because Arteta doesn’t rock the boat with them. He’s young, cheap(ish), a segment of the fan base is fanatical about him, borderline obsessive, and he’s articulate and good at sounding smart. I think he probably is fairly smart, though it often doesn’t show on the pitch.

January fucked us.

Habesha Gooner

I was all sentimental and wanting to keep the likes of Elneny as 5th choice. But we need a clear out. Even our backups need to be good enough. If we don’t spend at least 200 mil this summer then there is no going back to the top. Cedric, Elneny, Holding, Xhaka as your starters let us down.

If we really are serious, we would get 2CMs, 2ST, 1 RW, 1 LB, 1 RB and that would need at least 200 mil if they are decent.

That little.sucker Gary N would have a field day ffs

Absolutely shocking and expectedly bad performance from this team under this manager. And it couldn’t happen to a better club after giving him a new contract. Just continually pathetic

Matt B

There’s still one more game to go and a team to support, so hold off from telling us all how right you were

Looking vey unlikely, I know, but our league position is way better than some of the predictions on here were back in September

Hugely disappointing, but, not the end of the world

Haha Eagle .. All he has to do is bring back Saliba., imo . We shall see I guess. My optimism is mostly gone.

Can’t wait to see what lines Pedro’s source feeds him after that. Pedro is so emotionally invested in Arteta he will simply double down. At the end of next season, more of the same.

The Real Vieira Lynn

now all we need is for Norwich to battle the Spurs to a scoreless draw and for us to beat Everton 16-0

Matt B

Oh hang on, Marko’s back — well, blow me down with a feather

So bloody fed up of everyone being so reactionary. A few surprise wins and suddenly Arteta is amazing, Nketiah needs signing up, Odegaard is next level, etc. A few awful defeats and Arteta is a fraud and all our players are absolute shite. Ffs people, grow up. It is clear that the answer lies somewhere in the middle. Let’s be clear, today we were absolutely dire. Pretty much same against spurs, and plenty of other games this season. But we’ve also had some purple patches where we’ve looked genuinely good again, where we’ve shown what we could be capable of,… Read more »

Red Line

Shocking crap but is anyone really surprised. Spent all that money and made the team worse!

Agree again. 150 – 200 will again be required this summer just to tread water and finish fifth again. United will be back, Newcastle will be better, West Ham aren’t going away, and Spurs will be able to recruit champions league caliber players. We’ll likely have to pay more in wages than we would have otherwise as well, to make us more attractive as we lack champions league football to offer players.

If we cheap out this summer, as we did in January, we’ll be lucky to finish sixth or seventh next year.

Futile to talk about individual players and transfers when we have a poor manager at the helm. Arteta has not yet topped Wenger’s worst year as Arsenal manager. Two 8th position finishes and 13 losses this season and counting.

I am done with Project Tets personally. What makes you think that handing him £200m would even be a good idea at this stage?

We spent £135m last summer, more than anyone else in the league and Europe and mostly on defenders. We will concede close to 50 PL goals from last season’s total of 39.

Ramsdale, White, Odegaard have all been decent signings but just ok and they have more importantly been shite when it has really mattered, like tonight. £100m between the trio.

Josip Skoblar

We need a massive clear out and we are going backward with Arteta.

David Smith

A lot of those players would not usually be near the first team, is there any chance someone at Arsenal might look at the cause of the injury plague that hits this time every year, and has done since pretty much the Invincibles?

We’ve all got a twitch after watching that performance…

Zambian Gunner

Total Newcastle dominance from beginning to end. The intensity and pace of their play was so annoyingly beautiful. We were completely outclassed, outthought and outfought. For this season, the gaffer is safe, but next season, the fans will demand better

The manner of defeat is what has killed me. Losses happen in football. But not even being competitive against the likes of Newcastle and Crystal Palace is a new low for this club. How much further can we be humbled? I’m scared to find out.

Well said DM. I for one am happy with the way the team is progressing. We all knew we are a few players away from being where we want to be, and this season has proved it. We had no proper striker since auba signed his new deal. And our kidgield needs a shake up nobody would have predicted that partey would be so inconsistent. But it is what it is. Let’s get the players in that we need and kick the season off properly.

Terraloon We know our squad is well short, that’s not news to an observant Arsenal fan. Whether we got top 4, or Europa League, we were always going to need to address that this summer. We have to tie down Saka, Martinelli, Saliba, and I’d still keep Nketiah. We have to get another experienced left back, Tierney’s injuries are a big concern We desperately need to add quality to the midfield We’ll need to address our forward line with a central striker, possibly 2 if both Laca + Eddie leave. Then possibly a wide player + central midfielder if Pepe… Read more »

Surprisingly Danny Higginbotham with an astute analysis. Q: What will Arteta think he got wrong today? H: I don’t think the players were prepared. You’d got to adapt. There’s a reason why Arsenal have conceded first away 7 times and lost all 7 games. There’s a reason they’ve conceded the first goal on numerous occasions and only came back to win one game this season. They don’t have that adaptability. Q: Is that on the players or the manager A: That has to come for the manager He did go on to discuss the age and lack of experience of… Read more »

Every pressure game we have had we have lost. The three wins against Man Utd, Chelsea and West Ham all came when the pressure was off and we thought top four was gone. We haven’t won or drawn a game when we have gone behind. That is alarming. It seems this manager is unable to get this team across the line when it matters.

Habesha Gooner

Mics They knew we had a shortage at ST and CM. Had we signed them then we would have done it. Tottenham literally got better because of the push of Bentancur and Kulusevski. Plus we loaned out a lot of players just because they asked or we wanted to save wages. It was ridiculous. 200 mil and I think we can make top 4 next season. But after that we would need an elite coach to get this team better too. Arteta has crumbled way too many times to give him my trust again. Top 4 is the bare minimum… Read more »

We had ESR as an up and coming attacking midfielder/playmaker with decent output. Yet it was obvious to us all we needed better if we wanted to compete for top 4. Then we decided to settle for someone less productive and less imposing.

Same old, same old. A crushing sense of deja vu about this abject performance. How many times have we showed some promise, had a little run, and then collapsed with such spinelessness as this? Too many for it to be some ‘blip’ in the grand ‘project’. Can we please not hear any more guff about ‘elite’, ‘world class’ and ‘generational’ in relation to Arteta? Wenger eagle
TBH , Partey is the biggest miss in that midfield. Plus Tierney and Tomi have been out for long stretches. And despite the result, I still think we recruited well last summer. The older players are the problem for me. We can’t have the Xhaka, Elneny pivot any more.

But I haven’t got faith in Arteta to deliver more than 4th. I think we need a better coach. But the 200 mil would still be a necessity.

Arteta will learn just as young players learn. He is cutting his teeth with Arsenal unfortunately but nobody can deny that he has surprised many this season. Our team will improve and players will join us cos they can see the potential this squad has. You can all vent now and get back to supporting the team for next season where we will do better than this season.

The Real Vieira Lynn

nice try DM, but the fanbase didn’t change the goalposts, MA did when he chose to purposely not rotate players into the lineup, thereby putting the kibosh on the developmental side of the process, and became singularly focused on creating a static starting 11 and pushing for a top 4 finish…the fact that he didn’t have the balls to potentially upset his monopolistic reign over the locker room by adding some much-needed depth come January was both incredibly self-serving and naïve, especially considering our prolific injury history and our offensive deficiencies…just another case of the manager placing his own interests… Read more »

Newcastle Utd 2 Arsenal 0.

The All or Nothing Amazon Prime Decider…..

Nothing to see now…..

If the club had not lost its way- A. Wenger would and should have taken the team talk for this fixture as special guest-after all he knows how to win pressurised games at Newcastle to cement CL soccer.

When you’ve got a mentality as weak as we just saw over the last two matches really makes you wonder about next season. I’m not making any bold statements regarding Arteta whose just been extended but that critically lands on him.

What an absolute garbage way to go into a summer window.

It’s karma fellows.

We hounded out our greatest ever manager and those rocking at Emirates were today were at the forefront of that.

He got us Champions league for 19 consecutive seasons. I fully believe Arsenal are not going to get Champions league for at least 19.

Call it Wenger’s curse. Or call it payback for bad karma.

By the way, I ran into the great man yesterday. Was gracious enough to let me take a take a photo with him.

Habesha Gooner

If you can’t raise your team to fight for that game then you need to be questioned. Oh how I miss the glorious failures of the Wenger years. At least we had hope. After 10 minutes of that game we could tell things were going to be shit.

Well reminded Wengaball

On the plus side bellarin is back next year. Willian was s fat useless cunt, but he knew bullshit when he heard it. Binned of a stack of cash to get shot of leggo and his bollox.

Bahahahahhahahahahahaha, clown world….13 defeats this season and counting.
he hasn’t surprised this season, just a few other teams have been surprisingly worse than expected
glad you want a manager to learn on the job at a great club like arsenal

AFC Forever

At least you showed up-fair play to you. However, it’s not being a fair weather fan to point out Arteta’s failures to motivate the team today. Tiredness can’t be an excuse after having the lightest schedule of anyone in the Top 10.

Injuries did have an impact but that was also largely self-inflicted. I didn’t think it would hurt at the time but a painfully thin squad has proved me wrong.

Throwing the fragile Tierney and Partey straight back into the team after a punishing International schedule has backfired trenendously.

That was a depressing table to see. 6 points and a game in hand ahead of Spurs on March 15th.

Mr Serge

I wish I hated football this is sickening

Into the red, The utter predictability of this is what kills me. Many, if not most, of the fan base could see that we needed strengthening in January if we wanted top four. Spurs strengthened, and that’s why they’re going to play in the champions league. We didn’t, and that’s one of the reasons why we won’t. Still, we should have had enough to beat at least one of: Newcastle, Brighton, southampton, crystal palace. And the team has looked utterly gash in each of those games. Unable to string two passes together. And Arteta can’t fix it. He can’t adapt… Read more »
