ARTETA DOUBLES DOWN ON XHAKA

by .

The presser is IN and there are some bits that I did NOT like.

Mikel Arteta is digging his heels in over Granit Xhaka.

‘If you see the statistics’

Yes, we know that Granit is a capable left-back, we know that Mikel does not like Nuno, but Xhaka at left-back isn’t about being left-back, it’s about the midfield.

Sambi and Odegaard is not a natural pairing. Odegaard deeper reduces our chance creation. Moving Granit into left-back upsets the entire team.

It’s also not a great way to treat Nuno.

We’ll see what happens tomorrow, but if it’s a hill Arteta wants to die on, then he’s clearly convinced that Xhaka at left-back can see us into the top 4. It’s on him now.

He also indicated that Lacazette hasn’t been training for personal issues. Usually, with Arteta, that means someone has fallen out with him. I hope that’s not the case. Whatever it is, it means Eddie, Martinelli, or ESR will be playing that forward position.

It should be Eddie, but if he’s not staying, it could been seen as wasted minutes.

I’d quite like to see ESR in the false 9 role, but Arteta again said he’s struggling with fitness… an issue that has been dragging quite hard this season.

All I really care about is getting the 3 points and the perception of some momentum.

… until Chelsea spank us at Stamford Bridge and end our top 4 chances on Wednesday.

I saw the below post.

Just goes to show that the trend for disgusting abuse is a global issue that goes beyond some of the weirdos in our fanbase.

Instagram could ban the people, they could ban their burner accounts, they could stop the people signing up for new ones. But they don’t, because it would affect engagement, and the chunk of accounts they’d have to delete might not look good on earnings reports. The same reason Twitter doesn’t delete the bot accounts.

Why you’re here, why not drop into a BEFORE THE WHISTLE PODCAST hosted by JOHNNY and guested by ME. It was supposed to be calm and chill but it wasn’t. A good listen regardless. Tune in, give us a 10* review!

Can we stop saying that Arteta hasn’t had strikers since January. He made the conscious choice to get rid of his senior striker.

Laca and Auba were decent strikers until Arteta came on board. Maybe it’s Arteta that doesn’t know how to put strikers in a position to succeed at the club.

WengerEagle

And those 3 losses can easily turn into 5 losses if we are not careful.

Chelsea will likely beat us on Wednesday and then we face a Utd side that beat us already this season with non-existent confidence.

Ernest Reed

“The mad thing is may get him the sack sooner rather than later. 3 losses on the trot isn’t a good look.”

Its not “mad” its simply being a poor manager who lacks any wilful vision and instead depletes his squad and still continues to invoke non-negotiables – thats not mad, thats just plain and blatant stupidity. And for a Manager now well into his third season, that’s damning negligence through stubborn arrogance.

salparadisenyc

Have to hand to Arteta, being Spursier than Sprur’s and still managing to shit house an FA cup while alienating half his players along the way is some god damn feat.

Inadequate in every department.
Imagine with this squad what would have

“ some serious decisions are going to have to be made in the off season” The only decision they will likely make will be give Arteta three years, increase his wages, meaning he will be more expensive to get rid of if he repeats 7th or 8th next season, which is starting to seem likely . In reality, they should see how he does for the first half of next season, before renewing if that’s what they want to do, but they won’t risk taking him so near the end of his deal incase he wakes up and starts doing… Read more »

Bobby Martinez (Wigan) and old ‘Arry Redknapp (with Pompey!) won the FA Cup too.

And Van Gaal at Utd. Even a bum manager can put a Cup run together after all as per Pedro on Emery.

Couldn’t even take advantage of Spurs losing earlier. Luckily they did or we’d be 6 points behind them with a game still to play at Hotspur Stadium.

Even if we eeek into 4th place? What really changes? We get knocked out of a tournament on Tuesday/Wednesday at the hands of a European club instead of a domestic one.

We are going backwards.
What more evidence do fans need?
He wants to manage a football club and was given a top job based on a promise.
He has failed miserably.
He has been given money and chances and still failed.

For anyone who honestly believes that our problems are all down to the fact that we don’t have a viable Striker, you’re either incredibly daft or legally blind…this one-trick pony of a manager has proven time and time again that he doesn’t have the answers…our style of play is so pedestrian and directionless, that even the likes of Tony Pulis would spit in your eye if you dared to compare…I would go so far as to suggest that if this footballing mental midget doesn’t grow a pair over the next fortnight, we could find ourselves feeling rather fortunate if the… Read more »

Ernest, I am trying to think realistically what they club will do over his new deal, there is no way they will sack him this summer, no matter what, I suspect he will get a new deal, just saying they should hold off on that. Agree, there has been wilful negligence, but on the striker issue, in fairness it seems he did try and get Tammy Abraham, not sure of it was the club or Chelsea who put pay to that. That was a seriously fucked up result. Arteta is just proving every doubter over his credentials as a manager. Top 4 is the maximum he can achieve. We have stretches through out the season where we lose 2, 3, 4 games in a row. And that isn’t good enough. He has a good eye for talent. But he will never be a coach to lead us to a little. The only positive to take from today’s results is that nothing has changed. we still need to beat Spurs, ManUtd, WestHam to hope getting into top 4. Of course if things conspire against us, we may well end up to 8th, which a week ago I thought was not going to happen. However in view of our current form that becomes a distinct possibility. Sad day really , Arteta will not go because of the money.

Open question and please, sensible answers only…

Just been watching Matt and Pedro and between them they have offered up a list of Arteta flaws that have been made on here quite often. It was quite a contrast to the lines taken on here. Anyway, despite criticisms of how players are used, they seem to feel Arteta has improved players at the club.

Which players does anyone here feel have been improved through coaching by Arteta?

Sly

This was awful
Does anyone still have doubts about arteta’s credentials?
We’re cruising to an 8th or less finish
Habesha I’m giving edu the Credit for the recruitment
It’s painfully obvious now that arteta can’t coach

He’s really showing he can’t coach an improvement in player performances either
Not much hope for the remaining games

“Ramsdale in the first few matches flapping his arms around had everyone fooled.”

“Pedro comparing Arteta to Conte because we both lost to Brighton lol“

Conte’s been in his Tottenham job barely half a season so he’s got every right to keep working out the kinks.
He got outdone today because you can’t play one less body in midfield vs Brighton’s high press and expect to beat it. They didn’t.
Today showed what Spurs look like without Kane dropping deep in the playmaker role.
Give Conte another transfer window and he’ll get what he wants or he’ll walk.

Arteta won’t walk even if Arsenal sign no one next summer.
That’s the difference.

Inside,

I’d say Arteta has had the opposite effect not improved anybody but made players worse. Destroying their confidence, letting them rot unused on the bench and shredding their value.

No, he’s not improved anyone and the whole team is regressing.

Anyone that sincerely believes Saliba is going to play next season under Arteta? Unless one of Gabriel or White are injured, Arteta has made no secret of his lack of true interest in him. Saliba will be nothing more than a poker chip cashed in towards paying a ridiculous sum for an otherwise marginal Striker, one who will ultimately die an anonymous death in the “Arteta Triangle” of offensive threats.

Mark

Inside,
That’s right they’re under instructions, pain of death (not playing) if you do your own thing.

That’s why I stopped arguing with the AFB s cos I knew sadly that whatever happens Arteta has way too many character faults to be a successful manager. Worst of all he’s so arrogant, with no reason to be.

Le Sauce

Well, it’s business as usual. After all, Artetas PR specialist (you know who) has told us to expect 9 points from a possible 24, I believe this was the generational stuff we were talking of all along. We all said it in the summer that the £134M was poorly spent especially when we decided to neglect the attack and midfield in two transfer windows, it’s no surprise that our chance creation stats (midfield) and goalscoring stats (attack) have been sh*t. Ernest,
Saliba ain’t coming back. Would you want to play for a Cnut like Arteta? Fucked him over said he’s not ready and never gave him a chance. Then did so again with the loan straight out to Marseille. Didn’t even look at him after his successful Nice loan.

So no chance he’s seeing Pepe and even considering coming back to rot on the bench. Mikel won’t be pressured by anyone for guarantees , just look at Martinez. So Saliba is a fairy tale that didn’t happen cos of Arteta.

Just a take from the 6-0 beating SH received from the Chavs last weekend. However you twist this it is damaging for Arsenal. If SH’s defense was rubbish than what does that say about our attack. If they can put 6 past SH’s defense and we couldn’t put one past theirs. Expect as it already was mentioned a cricket score to the goods of the Chavs in the next game which leaves 18 points to play for.

We “battered” Southampton in the second half because Southampton made a conscious decision to back off and defend on the edge of their own box in the second half after getting that late goal in the first half.

In the first half Southampton contested further up the pitch and we didn’t look that comfortable in central midfield in the first half. In the second half Southampton gave up territory in central midfield to as said before defend deeper in front of their own penalty box.
